so 'Mini 9' it was... and flyers some what correct...
agree with most that prices are high... and really only two colors (black and white)...
pretty cool though... it's official... moment everyone has been waiting for... -
GeorgeJ, you were correct about the name...I just doubted all the releases and news coming out, as we were let down on 8/22..so I wanted to wait until the *Official Release* by Dell as to the factual name, and such..
Thanks! Cin
AND....
Wow! Hey guy's more thing's to review today regarding the I9, eh?
$99?? Not a bad deal for it, if you need a new lappy such as the S15, 1530 or 1330 and have other great coupons/config's
Hoping for better and improved news today,
Cin -
@Cin - I didn't believe the name 'Mini 9' too... and was in the same boat and waiting for an official announcement...
but it's out now... Woot... -
Man, Dell's site is getting pounded right now. I can't get on to check the ability to order the Mini.
-
I don't like doubting things but with the release, and such I had too!
And, yes, WoOT! It's finally out...but only in the 2 colors, and such...*holding steady*
I hope you get to order!!!!
Cin -
Oh man, I finally got in and Ubuntu models aren't shipping until 10/9???? Oh well, Aspire One, here I come!
-
Hey guy's head over to the *Notebook News and Reviews* section of the forum, and check out Jerry's review of the I9, it's pretty good

But, call Dell first and advise you saw the $99 deal for the I9...and want to know if they will honor that...or do you need to cancel and place the order once again...I'm sure they are getting an *overwhelming amount of calls* like this now...So, maybe...they will concede!
Good luck, and let us know what happened!
Cin -
Well, I just got back from BestBuy. They didn't have any Aspire One's in stock, nor were they expecting to get any. Sadly, they didn't even have a display model for me to play with :-(
If the fully configured Mini was about $50 less, I might have jumped on it. -
I guess I better call BB before going there, then....Cuz if they don't have them in stock...I will end up spending $$ there, get's me into trouble LOL.
That's too bad they are not expecting any soon.....Yes, the I9 at the $299 price point would've been nice to start with...
What do you want to do now?? Are you going to wait a bit..to see if things change w/the I9???
Cin -
As I have stated before... the Aspire One is looking better and better. I just wish I could play with one prior to ordering it. Amazon says they will have them in stock on the 23rd. Maybe I will have a chance to use one prior to that.
I think Dell will add some options in the not-too-distant future. I think the Box.net deal killed the possibility of a standard hard drive, so we probably wont see that anytime soon. I'm sure more colors will follow though. -
Will wait and see,.....and try to check the Acer Aspire.

Here is the full scan of the flyer... previous post only showed the details.. this is the full page...

I am confused about where the $299 price came from... I know that there were rumors of a $299 price point but I never heard anything official from Dell that they were going to start the price points at $299...
I think later we will see coupons and that should help bring the cost down... The black does look nice though... but why the extra $$ to get a white version? -
The one thing that looks promising on the IM9 is keyboard is 'Spill resistant' and the mouse pad keys are the soft press ones and not the hard click types... -
-
I wish they offered a Centrino 2 laptop with this 100 dollar netbook.
-
anyone see the mini 9 on the canadian website?
-
-
Which version are you seeing in the store for $399?
If it's the 120 gig version, Acer has dropped the price to $349. Most vendors are dragging their feet to meet this new MSRP.
The $399 version should include 160 gig AND the 6 cell battery (easily should get you 5-6 hours of battery since I'm getting 2.5-3 hours with the 3 cell). -
Are the 6 cell battery the same size as the 3 cell for AAO?

Too little, too late...
But good things come to those who wait -

Will people still be buying it even though it might get hot due to no fan?

I had to laugh at this release. For the UK you get a choice of Black and whether or not you wish to add it to your basket.
We can't configure it, change the drive size. Not a damed thing!

Oh and the 299 thing was a uk price. I think people just assumed it was also the dollar price. -

just ordered mine. Might regret it if a price drops happens or a large screen? Do you guys have any ideas or rumors about this? -
Congrats! I hope you are happy with it.
I haven't heard of any rumors yet, but I'm sure a price drop is not too far off in the future. I know nothing of a different screen. -
Great news!

Looks like October for the introduction of additional colours. Friend just ordered his and has an estimated of on or before 26th Sept.
He is in USA though so I don't know what UK dates would be like. He delighted in telling me he ordered the white after I mentioned we only get black and an add to basket option!
Not sure if he's stopped laughing yet. -
I'm really not sure what I think of the Mini. At first I thought it was a disappointment, but now I'm not so sure, perhaps it just isn't quite what I'm looking for.
What I really want to know is does it have a proper UK enter key? -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Bad things about it:
- No multi touch trackpad
- No fan (might run hot)
- Only 4 cell battery
Otherwise, it is great! And it would have been mine if I had not gotten the 901. But since I got my EEE 901 on Ebay, it cost about the same as an XP, 1GB, bluetooth and webcam Inspiron 9 ($612-$120 cash back=$492). -
Hi everyone..
Cool.. so it is finally here.. the Dell Mini Inspiron. I think I'm going to hold off on buying this until Dell comes out with a good sale for this laptop. In addition, I want to see if people are able to easily upgrade the memory and SSD.. in which case it may make sense to buy a lower end model and to self-upgrade this computer to 2 GB RAM and 32 GB+ SSD.
Cheers! -

I can go to Best Buy and pick up an Acer computer (8.5" screen or something like that) with a 120GB hard drive, and Windows XP, along with 1GB of RAM for $350. This machine is terribly overpriced.
-
SSD versus hard drive (in other netbooks such as Acer Aspire One). What are the advantages and disadvantages of having a SSD versus a hard drive (other than the obvious differences in capacity)? Are there benefits in terms of weight or power usage? Thanks in advance for any help with this matter. Also, does anyone know if this Dell Inspiron Mini 9 will support SSD's larger than 16 GB?

EDIT: Oh, and SSDs are silent too! -
Hi everyone,
Thanks for the info about the advantages of a SSD drive.
After looking around the internet a little, I guess you can upgrade the RAM:
