Good link. I will have to try this out on my server.

Ok, while getting apps installed on my Mini, I have found that not having an HDD activity light is driving me nuts.
I found a great free utility that will put one in the tray in XP. Very cool. shows read and write activity.

Cin

Cin -

-
Well, hopefully it will work out for him...I would love for him to receive it this week ~ so I can *play* around with it!
Cin -
mine is suppose to ship today but so far it is still in production..I was going to cancel and order from the outlet but I guess that is out now. It should be soon I hope.
Phil -

CinLast edited by a moderator: May 8, 2015 -
Yep - I had to cancel 2 of my previous Outlet mini orders to get the additional $60 bucks off (Still amazed that Dell is so inflexible on applying coupons after the sale to avoide refusal of product but that's for another thread...)- I kept one of them since it had 400+ worth of extra's.... I have three mini's coming in Tomorrow - will keep one and send 2 of them back. I re-ordered - found lots of selection this morning of 'REFURB's" - but finally found a "NEW-Ordered" version and ordered it. It's showing Nov 11 for ship date---- that's CRAZY - will have to wait and see if its an error.
-
-
Seems like #'s change quite a bit on the Outlet --- I notice it especially when there is a 15% off - prices tend to be a bit higher - then it takes a bit for prices to cool off after the rebate has expired.
Just checked and you are right - they upp'd the price to 419 - from the 399 and 389 they were this morning.
The two I got today were $389 w/everything but BT Minus the 15 percent - Very solid deal.
Shipping Update - The two Mini's I ordered Today originally had 11/11 Ship Date - and I just got notified that they have Shippped- due to arrive on 29th. -
You did get a great deal! And, congrat's on the earlier delivery...that's this Wednesday.
Cin -
-
Well I had one on order since 10/4 and was suppose to ship 10/27 and all I got was a email delayed for another month till 11/24. Its 2am and there are a few new ones in the outlet store so I ordered one we'll see how quick this one gets here. Saved a few bucks to boot.
Phil -
When is your ESD?
And, Phil...congrat's on your new order...it surely will arrive sooner than your other one!
Cin -
new ship date is 10/31 and d date 11/3 so much for next day shipping oh well saved me 100 bucks
-
And, yes a plus ++++ You saved $100, nice
Cin -
geez them things go fast last night there were 3 pages of em this morning 8 and 5 mins later none. With the 15 percent off coupon its a good deal if you can snag one
-
Where is this coupon? I'm trying to see what prices are ending up at with tax and shipping.
-
The info is in this linky:
DELL Outlet- Inspiron Mini 9, extra 15% off!!!
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=314829
Cin -
And, I'm still *pondering*lol.
With peep's snapping up this deal..I'm sure Dell will see a difference on regular sales on this, and order cancellations....Maybe then, next release..they will be better prepared....
Cin -
it comes out to 392.62 with next day shipping and 20 bucks tax you could save 8 bucks with 2 day shipping my original order was just under 500. the only thing the outlet ones don't seem to have is blue tooth
Phil -
Just joined forum so thought i'd say hello.
Ordered my Mini on 13th Oct here in UK and guy delivered on 15th for no extra delivery charge so top marks Dell UK. Have already upgraded to 2GB memory and added 16GB SDHC card which I plan to leave in slot. Deleted some of the original software as not needed and now getting ready for 3 month excursion to far east. Lets hope it can deal with temp and humidity out there. -
people in the US are lucky.. cheaper prices and better salaries. sucks. lol
-
Yeps a good dealNo bluetooth for the ones availi' at the outlet???
You will like it here, and find about everyone to be nice and helpful...besides finding a wealth of information
Sounds, like you have a nice I9..and I'm sure it will hold up good for you on your *excursion*...You will have to keep us posted!
Kind of one of the few reasons I am holding off on the Netbook!
Cin -
-
I guess I'm a bit naive about bluetooth, I don't use it for anything right now so what exactly is it good for on the mini. Any reason why I should have it.
Phil -
-
Yep - got two BT units yesterday - should be here on Thursday - too bad I'll be out of town. Have two that are on truck for delivery today but I will be "Refusing" this order since I ordered pre the coupon.
Can BT be added to the mini (Easily?) -
My new Mini is here! My new Mini is here! Now I am somebody! (Apologies to Steve Martin in "The Jerk").
Well, my Mini arrived today - Ordered from the outlet on the 25th. I had a 2 -day delay due to a phone number screwup and it still made great time.
I have to hand it to Dell customer service. They did well by me. Cancelled my original order promptly and courteously and fixed my order problem just as efficiently.
Unpacking and getting started took all of 60 sec. and everything appears to be brand spankin' new - just as advertised in the outlet. I can't believe how small this thing is. I just put down my Studio 17 and picked this up and the Mini feels like nothing.
Thanks again for the tip on the outlet - I'd still be waiting. -
Nice on getting your Outlet Mini - I have the same hopes that my "previously ordered" show up AS NEW.
DHL decided to sit on 2 of my mini's - arrived at DHL local yesterday at 8:AM -- and for some reason sat there all day yesterday and all day today... Heading out on Travel tomorrow so wont get my Mini(3) until next week since I doubt they do Weekend Delivery. -
I ordered mine prebuilt from Sofmap (Japan). 16GB / Bluetooth / Webcam. Got $100+ free points and an almost free external DVD/RW drive. Awesome deal.
Initial observations (compared with the Asus Eee 901):
- This is noticeably lighter than the 901.
- Really nice screen, brighter than the 901.
- Need to keep readjusting the screen vertically, because the vertical viewing angle is really poor. (strangely it doesn't bother me much)
- Trackpad felt really bad at first, it was rough and sticky and I couldn't even use it!! After a couple of hours and setting movement to maximum it's really great now. The stickiness has worn off.
- I like this keyboard much better than the one on the 901. I can type faster. Keys feel better.
- I wish the screen could tilt back a little further, but the lower profile is nice.
- I miss F11 for maximizing windows.
- It's 99% silent. Awesome!
- Dell Bloatware as usual.
- Extremely slow to install and use Windows XP. (compression turned on etc)
- A included mouse would be nice.
- 3.5 hours battery life 50% brightness, bluetooth ON, wlan ON, webcam ON. General usage.
- I miss the 901's gestures. I love those.
Going to post up a review later. Then finally get around to comparing the Acer Aspire one, Mini 9 and 901. I bought all three. -
Just an FYI for those who want the F11 "Full Screen" experience in Internet Explorer.... you can do this without F11 you know.
In IE7, just click the "Tools" menu bar, and there's the Full Screen option right there! Click that and you're set. See attachment below...
I used this on my mini and it increases your viewable area in IE by quite a bit. Makes browsing just a little better!Attached Files:

 Sounds like you got a great deal, also!
Can't wait to see your review and such!

Hey guys...Looks like Amazon.com is starting to carry skins for the I9!! $24.95
What do you all think of it??
Cin

Nice find Cin' It appears to be the same company (3acp) as the ones listed on eBay. Amazon is great for people who don't deal with eBay.
Now if Decalgirl.com would start carrying them. There prices are so much lower. Their Asus EEEPC skin is only $12.99. I have spoken with a CSR over there and if they get more requests for the Mini 9 they will make a skin available. So, all you NBR users head on over to Decalgirl.com and request that they make a skin for our beloved Mini 9. -
I actually don't thinks its a bad one, either! But, we all like different things
Agreed, Amazon will work for those that don't do eBay!
That's a good idea for Decalgirl.com if they did start to carry skins for the I9
Cin -
Fry - thanks for sharing your thoughts. Most of the reviews I have seen favor the 901 in areas that you favor the mini 9 - interesting and good if when I get mine I feel the same. I had some time with a 901 when they first came out and was not very impressed - perhaps because I was not in the market for a net book at the time.
Did you disable disk compression - what kind of difference did it make?
A 3 way review would be NICE - now get to work... Jk...
Can anyone post a link or FAQ - of what to do to maximize performance (IE _ what to do first when you get your mini 9 to optimize). I was thinking about wiping and reloading mine but if there is an easier way I'm for trying it first. I remember seeing a good one a month or so ago....
Skinz - Saw these a while ago when searching Amazon for Mini reviews. Not crazy for this one but the idea of a rubber skin is not bad.
-
Bluetooth also comes in handy for my mouse which I only have to switch on and it automatically pairs. (no additional receiver taking up a USB port and sticking out) And using my bluetooth headset to make Skype phone calls instead of using the mic and speakers. -
IS BT upgradeable on the Mini9? -- Anyone?

Also, the search function on the site works well: http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/newbies-how-to-use-the-search-function-t521.html - to potentially help you find additional information.
In addition, on October 11th I posted, in this thread on page 134, other links that you might find useful.
Personally, due to time constraints when the Mini initially arrived I uncompressed the drive ( http://dellmini9.blogspot.com/2008/09/drive-compressed.html, removed what I considered bloatware, and installed the programs I wanted. After I did that I found the Mini moved much much quicker.
Many people feel that a clean install of XP (assuming you are going to use XP) is better. However, for the purposes in which my girlfriend is using the Mini, uninstalling the bloatware & un-compressing the drive seems to be working just fine. -
Yeah I used mydellmini.com to get all my info. Agreed with MrNYC.
- uninstall bloatware
- uncompress harddrive
- turn off indexing (if you're not going to use the search function)
Doing those, it feels much faster.
I also saw some people increasing the page size. Haven't tried this yet. -
-
Good links - Thx.
-
well its finally suppose to come tomorrow but I have no shipping info. It sounds like dell uses dhl do they require some one to be here and sign for it?
