Oh, Cin.... take a look!
-
Oh yes, I did look!
IT look's just awesome!
(so jealous)
You probably have the first do-it-yourself...Dell *Red* Mini!
Cin
-
Both if its in your tariff, I can send text messages with my mini 9 on vodafone.
-
Nothing if you're in the U.S. The inside parts are missing.
-
Wow !!!
That looks fantastic. -
I suggest you take a look at mydellmini.com forums. The site has lots of information that might help you. For example, take a look at these two links:

Really nice work. Thanks for the picture.
-
Nan..didn't he do a great job! OMG...the red...
It looks like it could be easy..but he took his time, and it turned out great!
Dell's original *marketing of the I9 in red*
His: (I hope CM doesn't mind my doing this)
Cin

-
Yes, looking at that..I can see that he did
Cin
-
hmmmm.... that's cool! If the LCD cover only costs $24.99 like the extra black one I just bought, then I'll probably get a red one when they are available.
-
Thanks, Burkle
and, OH yeah...I'm very excited *drool* .....Hoping by Christmas
I knew I was holding out for a reason!
and *sigh* the good sigh! oh lulz
Cin
-
Took long enough lol.

That is a exactly my thoughts!
Now we just have to wait for them to be released in the US.
patience..patience..patience...

Dunno if anyone cares, but I got an extra 4 cell battery for $69. Someone popped up on ebay selling them for $92, used live.com 25% cashback and had $23 something pop up in my paypal account instantly. Seemed like a good deal for a new battery. I know someone said they got one from the outlet, but I don't know what they paid.
Also, I don't want a 6 cell battery, I don't want it purtruding from the back of the unit and I don't want any extra weight, 8 cells total is enough for me. -
they make a 6 cell for the mini? i tried searching for compatible batteries but couldnt find anything
-
No. They don't make a 6-cell.
-
I posted about a 6 cell because I know a lot of people are waiting for one. I get over 3 hours with my 4 cell, for me 3 hours is the sweet spot.
-
im so tempted to order my mini right now but i want to wait for more colour options.
Ive also been looking at mydellmini.com and found a bunch of mods i want to do to mine, but while surfing and browsing i noticed that the mini does not support a agn wireless card? by that i mean there isnt a third wire for it like in my 1520.
Does this mean no N for the mini? -

Is this the auction? I don't see anywhere anything about cash back except for when I searched thru live search. It said cash back, but didn't mention anything for that auction. I also have a 10% off coupon I'd like to use.

Saw a little kid with a mini 9 at a resturant yesterday. I really wanted to look at it and ask him what he thought about it. Chickened out. Or maybe I was just weighed down by the home fries and 2.5 cups of coffee.
Anyway, it was definitely pretty cool. -
LOL..That's funny how old to you think he was? I saw someone at the bookstore/coffeehouse last week with one ~ They had the black I9...saw me staring, and I said *nice mini*..reply: *yes it is, works great*
Cin
-
Probably not younger than 8, or older than 12. I can never tell anymore. It was a black mini also. Wonder what kids will be playing with in another 10-20 years.
-
i feel so nerdy when i do things like that  but its so cool i cant help it.
-
That's nice though! The kid had the *hookup* with his I9, and I'm sure his friends all prob's want to play with it!
lol.
Yeah, I wonder about that also..what will they have then..
It is cool!
Don't ever feel nerdy!
Your just you!

i found a deal on one with the specs i want but its white
must resist the urge to buy until more colour and drive options come out:twitcy: -
How good is the deal?
-
Ooh..yes what are the specs?
And, are you prepared to wait a bit longer for the color & drive options??
I am!
Cin
-
im looking at 350 for
16gb
1.3 mp webcam
bluetooth
2gbs ram
its a friend's dormmate
and yeah im willing to wait, i dont NEED the mini but i just want my toy  -
Ya, that's not a good enough deal to jump on, considering you can get pretty darn close through the Dell outlet.
I'd wait too. -
Sometimes at the end of that wait for that toy ~ will be the next best thing
oh lulz.
I think so too...The pricing at the Outlet is really good as of late
Cin
-
only thing i dont like about the outlet lately is that they're always with xp instead of ubuntu so the price is higher then it should be for the specs.
I want a 16gb ssd but 4gb if an upgrade is cheaper then just buying it with a 16gb
i also want a webcam, bluetooth and ram i can always add myself. -
I upgraded the RAM in my Ubuntu Mini 9 this afternoon, from 512 to a Gig. Surprisingly, it has made a noticeable difference.
Don't get me wrong, it's not like this thing is blazing fast, now. There is a little less waiting around, though.
I'd say it was fifteen bucks well spent. I'd highly recommend anyone running an entry level Mini do this upgrade. It's cheap and it makes a difference. -
can you redo the kernal on the factory ubuntu to see 2gbs? or would it be easier just to install 8.10?
-
I'm really the wrong person to ask about this. I'm a Linux novice, who's fine with using, not so fine with tweaking.
-
That's nice that it's working out and a bit faster with the upgrade of RAM you put in!
Where did you pick your extra RAM up from? That's not a bad price

BIOS A03 Leaked
Info on the leak:

Where you can download A03:
http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/bios-upgrade-fails-t227s30.html#p7666 -
Newegg, as always.
-
would have tried the 25 for 2gbs! but you have the dell ubuntu...
Do you think 2gbs would be noticeable from 1gb? -
Frankly, I don't think it would make that much of a difference. At this point, I'm not even coming close to maxing out the gig.
I guess if you're going to really test the multitasking capabilities of the device, it would make a difference. But, then you'd be taxing the rest of the hardware.
Personally, I'm not that concerned with heavy multitasking on a netbook. Basically, I surf the net on the thing, and that's it. A gig is sufficient for this type of use. -
Of course! I thought perhaps Newegg..but wanted to check!
How long did it take you to install the RAM??
Cin
-
I little under a minute, I'd say.
-
That's pretty good.
...When I was messing with my 1530 when I first got it..it took a fairly long time....(can we say NoOB)
LOL
Cin
-
Not that it made a difference in this case, but I tear down electronics for a living. If I couldn't quickly change out the RAM on a notebook, I should be fired.
-
LOL!
So, of course it took you *minimal time* putting the RAM in
For me, when I get my netbook..and if I install more RAM..I'm hoping it will be easier than the first experience for me, on a notebook!
And,
no firing!
lulz.
Cin
-
Anyone could install RAM on one of these things. It's just two screws and a hatch. It's about as easy as it gets.
