Got some bad news, it's not coming today.
Dell's website says it shipped next day, shipped 12/22 and expected delivery is 12/23. Nothing yet so I called Fed Ex and he said Dell shipped this regular ground and it might be here the 24th, might also be after xmas. Well my office is closed tomorrow and I do not want to go wait in line at Fed Ex after hours so I will have to get it some time after the holidays.
Sucks...
-
Crapola.
Hope you get something cool on Thursday to hold you over. -
and Awwwww...that does have a major suckage factor
I'm sorry won't have it for Xmas...You may want to contact Dell, and ask for some sort of gift card or something for their error.
That suggestion might not help...but you never know.
And, maybe buy yourself something fun to mess with, till you get your I9 deliveredThat could be on Friday, you know??
Cin -
Spoke again with Fed Ex, said he will get it on the truck tomorrow. I am going to come into the office, open the office and sit here by myself on my day off to get this thing.
Bad news is I have no way of knowing when he will get here so I will just wait it out. I am going to bring a good book and play online till it shows up.
Am I a loser for waiting in the office on my day off before Christmas to get a computer?
You know what, don't bother answering.... I already know
Oh yeah and I am bringing liquor. Have a couple drinks, order in some food and relax. I am going to make the best of this -
I have to work til 12N tomorrow..but yeah..no one will *factually* be working! I will have my I9 with me! Then, 12P hits..and it's Office Party time! They picked up our *beverage* orders today!
So, this is a good thing, that Fed Ex is going to get it delivered to you tomorrow! They have the holiday spirit it seems!
Bring fun stuff to do..and you will be alright!Soon, your wait is over!
Cin -
I ordered a white mini from Dell outlet for a great price. It just shipped and I'm hoping to get it by Friday. No tracking info on the order page yet. I'm almost more excited about it than I was about the 1330 last year.
-
-
He said between 10-2 actually. As one could expect I am not holding my breath lol
-
Appreciate everybody's help.
Jane -
And, if I were a driver for Fed Ex or any Carrier..and it being Christmas Eve ~ I would want to get all my packages delivered ASAP, so I can enjoy the start of the Christmas holiday early!
Cin -
you mentioned.
thanks for any helpl. -
-
Looks like my 2G RAM is going to be delivered to my house today so that is good news. With Ubuntu is this plug and play or do I need to download anything to help the mini recognize the extra RAM?

1. Click Start, Run
2. Type msconfig
3. Click on the Startup Tab and uncheck the box in front of igfxpers.

Can anyone recommend a good small stand or something to elevate the mini? This thing gets pretty HOT on the bottom!
-
Hey all!
Those with the I9..How do you like your sound quality?
I'm not sure..it was really low last night...not normal I don't think..
Cin -
The speakers are rather weak, sort of like a cell phone speaker.
But its ok for my basic needs.
If Im gonna watch a movie or listen to music on the mini I use headphones anyway. Also, Im probably gonna pick up some bluetooth headphones so i can be wireless too while listening.
Cin, did you turn up all 4 of the volume levels by clicking the speaker icon next to the clock in the bottom right corner? -
Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to try a different pair of headphones I have, and see if that makes a difference.
I thought I had adjusted all 4 volume levels......I will check again later when I get home this afternoon.
Hoping it's just a *user* error vs. anything else!

-
However, for a netbook, the speakers on the Mini 9 are actually pretty darn good. Obviously, the sound quality isn't great, but at least it's stereo, and it's super loud.
I've been really happy with the audio output of my Mini 9. It's not as good as the HP Mini-Note, but way better than an Eee Pc. -
Overall, I like the Dell install of Ubuntu. -
I think 1GB would be plenty with the Dell Ubuntu Remix. I have 1GB on my Acer Aspire One with Windows XP and it runs just fine.
-
I'm sure I'm doing something wrong..and will recheck everything this afternoon!
Cin -
I see Fed Ex across the street
-
While I am waiting for him to finish at the strip center across the street I found a way to get the 2G RAM to work with DELL Ubuntu.
Something to do tomorrow -
Oh mini....come to daddy.
Looking forward to your reviews. -
That Fed Ex guy didnt have it, it is now 4:25- no mini. I am losing it here people, Christmas eve and I am about to snap
-
What????? Oh no.
-
Oh no don't snap scott!!
-
I made it guys!! Got the mini at 430, only to drive straight home so I could change to meet my parents for Christmas eve service. I am finally home playing on it now. The Ubuntu is amazing and the mini is much cooler than I had hoped for.
So small and quick, I am shocked at the amazing quality of the screen -
I only surf the net with it basically! xo -
I'm so glad you received it...finally..and that you didn't *snap* per se.
Everything is just nearly perfect about the I9, too me
Cin
OH and on an *off topic* note:
-
Thanks Cin', you too! You I am on it now, the battery is lasting 5 hours expected. Does not seem normal but I am happy with it.
After 1 hour I am already getting used to the keys -
Hope your enjoying that I9!!!!
5 hours batt' time is good!
Glad you are getting used to that keyboard..It took me about a day, and now I just *own* it!
Cin -
5 hours was a false reading. Guess because it was new it hard a hard time estimating usage. Still a solid 4 hours and I am loving this thing
-
I can't wait to hear your feedback after a few days of using it!
Cin -
Happy Holidays to all mini 9 users!! Scott congrats!
Cin.. Thanks for your wit and being here.
Thomas... so smart....
and if anybody has any ideas to help make it run faster.. let me know in the near future... ...
no hurry just wondering about how you all are getting quick performance..
xo

Mini 9 of course
ATH-ESW9 headphone
ATH-ESW10JPN headphone
Sansa Fuse and under the Fuse is the Nuforce Icon Mobile amp
iBasso Boa USB Dac/Amp
Keningston track mouse
Headroom Total Bit Head USB dac/amp
External Passport 320 Gig hard drive.
As you see I am into portable audio a bit.
Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all.
-
I guess so..you got all you need for your portable music capabilities with the I9 ~ I say Sweet!
How do you like the Sansa Fuse???
Nice mini, and nice set-up!
Merry Xmas!
Cin -
Note an amp is not primarily to make the music louder, it is to make it sound smoother and with better control over the music in dynamics and timbre. -
I like the look of the Fuse, and being able to expand gig' on it!
Yeah, again..your setup is pretty sweet!
Cin -
Been on the Dell most of today, all the family loves it. Perfect for playing online on the couch while the family watches TV. Also surprised at how well the card reader worke3d transferring the Christmas pictures online.
The software to remember passwords works very well, I have 10 forums I visit most with different passwords and it is a huge help.
The ubuntu office, word, etc all works very well - hard to imagine this OS is more or less free.
Just get it to recognize my 2G RAM I installed and I will be 100% satisfied -
I'm glad they liked it, though!
It is nice for everything that it can do!
Glad it's working out for both of us!
Cin -
mini 9 should be killer with Intel's new chipset, and Nvidias Ion graphics.
I can't wait for the spec bump. -
I like my I9 the way it is right now!
Cin -
Hey all!
I was getting a tad feisty trying to figure out how to remove the Recycle bin from my XP desktop, as with Vista its super easy to remove.
So, I found this link with the following info:
Clutter Free Windows Desktop and Task Bar replacement for Windows XP
http://www.ascendant-online.net/node/365, and then this:
Microsoft PowerToys for Windows XP
http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/downloads/powertoys/xppowertoys.mspx
This link has Tweak UI...a way of being able to safely remove desktop icons such as the Recycle Bin..that you just can't *right click* and delete!
I hope this is of some help to my fellow I9 users!

Jane, how are things working out?? Did you end up installing Ubuntu?
