Got some bad news, it's not coming today.

Dell's website says it shipped next day, shipped 12/22 and expected delivery is 12/23. Nothing yet so I called Fed Ex and he said Dell shipped this regular ground and it might be here the 24th, might also be after xmas. Well my office is closed tomorrow and I do not want to go wait in line at Fed Ex after hours so I will have to get it some time after the holidays.

    Sucks...

Awwww.. :( and Awwwww...that does have a major suckage factor  :(

I'm sorry won't have it for Xmas...You may want to contact Dell, and ask for some sort of gift card or something for their error. ;)
That suggestion might not help...but you never know.

And, maybe buy yourself something fun to mess with, till you get your I9 delivered ;) That could be on Friday, you know??

    Cin ;) :)

Spoke again with Fed Ex, said he will get it on the truck tomorrow. I am going to come into the office, open the office and sit here by myself on my day off to get this thing.

Bad news is I have no way of knowing when he will get here so I will just wait it out. I am going to bring a good book and play online till it shows up.

Am I a loser for waiting in the office on my day off before Christmas to get a computer?

You know what, don't bother answering.... I already know :(

Oh yeah and I am bringing liquor. Have a couple drinks, order in some food and relax. I am going to make the best of this

So, this is a good thing, that Fed Ex is going to get it delivered to you tomorrow! ;) They have the holiday spirit it seems!

Bring fun stuff to do..and you will be alright! :D Soon, your wait is over!

I ordered a white mini from Dell outlet for a great price. It just shipped and I'm hoping to get it by Friday. No tracking info on the order page yet. I'm almost more excited about it than I was about the 1330 last year. :)

We may as well make this fun. Give us an update every few hours tomorrow. Did they give you any kind of time limit like anytime between 9am-7pm?

Well, that's not too bad of a 4 hour span, besides that you can continually track via fedex.com ;) :D

And, if I were a driver for Fed Ex or any Carrier..and it being Christmas Eve ~ I would want to get all my packages delivered ASAP, so I can enjoy the start of the Christmas holiday early! ;)

They don't have much choice in the matter. They have to take care of their scheduled pickups at the end of the day, too. I'd imagine Christmas Eve is probably one of the worst days of the year to work for UPS or FedEx.

Looks like my 2G RAM is going to be delivered to my house today so that is good news. With Ubuntu is this plug and play or do I need to download anything to help the mini recognize the extra RAM?

I think your talking about the 'flicker' and unchecking igfxpers from autostarting. To do this:

    1. Click Start, Run
    2. Type msconfig
    3. Click on the Startup Tab and uncheck the box in front of igfxpers.

    Reboot

The speakers are rather weak, sort of like a cell phone speaker.
But its ok for my basic needs.
If Im gonna watch a movie or listen to music on the mini I use headphones anyway. Also, Im probably gonna pick up some bluetooth headphones so i can be wireless too while listening.

Cin, did you turn up all 4 of the volume levels by clicking the speaker icon next to the clock in the bottom right corner?

    Hey Cabo! :D

Thanks for the feedback! I'm going to try a different pair of headphones I have, and see if that makes a difference.

I thought I had adjusted all 4 volume levels......I will check again later when I get home this afternoon.

Hoping it's just a *user* error vs. anything else!

The more I read the more I am finding DELL really limited Ubuntu with its additions. Rather than change, erase or modify the DELL version I am planning for a fresh install once I know more about what I am doing

I haven't really used headphones, so I can't speak to that.

However, for a netbook, the speakers on the Mini 9 are actually pretty darn good. Obviously, the sound quality isn't great, but at least it's stereo, and it's super loud.

I've been really happy with the audio output of my Mini 9. It's not as good as the HP Mini-Note, but way better than an Eee Pc.

I'm fine with the limitations. Really, all I'm doing with the machine, and all I ever plan to do with it, is surfing the net. Occasionally, I'll do some simple photo editing, but nothing major.

Overall, I like the Dell install of Ubuntu.

I think 1GB would be plenty with the Dell Ubuntu Remix. I have 1GB on my Acer Aspire One with Windows XP and it runs just fine.

I made it guys!! Got the mini at 430, only to drive straight home so I could change to meet my parents for Christmas eve service. I am finally home playing on it now. The Ubuntu is amazing and the mini is much cooler than I had hoped for.

So small and quick, I am shocked at the amazing quality of the screen

I use my Mini9 as a music server to an outboard soundcard. The internal cards of all computers are sick to me. The Mini9 internal sound for headphones is worst than most. But for what I want it to do, process music using JRiver Media player using an outboard USB hard drive into my Nuforce Icon Mobile amp using it's USB input is great. Here is a picture of my setup:

    Mini 9 of course
    ATH-ESW9 headphone
    ATH-ESW10JPN headphone
Sansa Fuse and under the Fuse is the Nuforce Icon Mobile amp
    iBasso Boa USB Dac/Amp
    Keningston track mouse
Headroom Total Bit Head USB dac/amp
External Passport 320 Gig hard drive.

As you see I am into portable audio a bit.

Merry Christmas and a happy New Year to all.

The Sansa Fuse has been a real surprise in how it sounds to me. I got it at Costco for 59.95 for an 8 gig flash drive MP3 player and put an additional 16 gig microSD card into it for a total of 24 gig of storage for about 3000 files of Extreme VBR MP3 files for on-the-go listening. The Nuforce Icon Mobile adds to the strength and depth of the sound quite a bit though without any real displacement issues as you can see the pair is very small together.

Note an amp is not primarily to make the music louder, it is to make it sound smoother and with better control over the music in dynamics and timbre.

Been on the Dell most of today, all the family loves it. Perfect for playing online on the couch while the family watches TV. Also surprised at how well the card reader worke3d transferring the Christmas pictures online.

The software to remember passwords works very well, I have 10 forums I visit most with different passwords and it is a huge help.

The ubuntu office, word, etc all works very well - hard to imagine this OS is more or less free.

Just get it to recognize my 2G RAM I installed and I will be 100% satisfied

    Hey all!

I was getting a tad feisty trying to figure out how to remove the Recycle bin from my XP desktop, as with Vista its super easy to remove.

So, I found this link with the following info:
