Thanks for the heads up, that is pretty cool. I might actually have to upgrade to that when it comes out. I really want a slightly higher resolution, some apps just don't like 600 lines of horizontal resolution.

My only complaint with that was the lack of SSD option, what did you not like about it?

    Thanks..saw it.

I saw it, it looks nice. A 10 inch will be a nice add for Dell.

I'm still reviewing, myself....will add later.

    Jane..very, very true! :D

I'm testing out a pair of my new earphones, that I got a great deal on about a month ago! They are working out really well with my I9!~ :D

How long is your startup process on your I9?? :D

Oh.. I'll have to time it.... I haven't actually got a number.
I put in the extra ram that had a little more umph.
On snow ball it wouldn't accept it. But Ruby sees it and it runs
    pretty quick now...

But then I tend to be a speed freak.
Still love your 1530 suggestion, what a lovely computer it is.
    Sorry off subject a bit.

I'm selling practically everything in my house and garage now and found some old Bose headphones.... They work so well with the Mini 9.

    I'm lovin it.

Yes that would be cool if you could time it and let me now! ;) I'm just curious! Have a fast, running machine is a good thing!

You can use the USB card for it, but the AT&T ones take advantage of the Minis SIM card slot.

Just joined the Mini9 club :D

Procured a base model Cherry Red, 512MB ram, 4GB SSD , No webcam, No BT, Ubuntu 8.04 for $227 (Previously Ordered New from Dell Outlet)

Intend to upgrade the RAM with a spare 2GB stick. Perhaps use a 16GB SDHC card for storage.

I found the sound to be ridiculously low - I take it operating this with ear phones is a given? or am I missing something?

Welcome, and congrat's on your purchase! :D

You ordered the same color as me...YOU are going to enjoy it!

And, even w/out the Ubuntu or BT.....$227 is an awesome price for the I9 :)

Yes, you will want to use earphones when you want to...But the sound on the Netbook, isn't so bad! ;)

    When does it ship?

Hey Cin? Do you have a USB DVD drive for Garnet? I am wondering if that one they have on the dell site is as good as the one I see on Walmart's site, I like that they carry Dell's but they don't have the mini 9's yet. I SO want to touch one....LOL!!! I think they are sweet machines, but I think the Mini 10 will be worth waiting for. And I only heard of it here on the NBR yesterday when I saw the thread on it.

So is a DVD really useful? I can appreciate that it wouldn't be too portable and I read reviews on Dell's site about it being bigger then the computer itself. So it's not like I would take the DVD drive everywhere. I would leave that at home on my desk. But I wonder how necessary it is to get one right away. :)

    I ordered this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...C-DealNews&cm_mmc=AFC-DealNews-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA

And, am still awaiting it's arrival...it's on backorder..I just found out :(
A friend referred me to this..and I'm looking forward to receiving it!

You will pay too much on Dell's site for one..unless you have some good discounts. You should check: newegg.com, tigerdirect, buy.com, amazon, etc :D Better pricing! ;)

Either one that you order, you will like..But if I were you..I would wait on the I10... ;) Seem's like that's the one you want!

I will be leaving my DVD Drive at home....unless I need to take it *remote* with me per se! ;) :D I think its always a good idea to have one, esp. for a Netbook :D

You will also want to get a nice looking sleeve to protect. :D

    Cin ;) :)

Do you think a sleeve is the way to go for a person in a wheelchair? I ask only because I use one to get around and have to have a long shoulder strap for my purse and I am not so sure the mini 10 would fit in my handbag. I saw the one you ordered and it was sure cute. It might be worth buying a bigger purse though...LOL!!!

I was thinking of a backpack, but I am not sure. So conflicted as you can see by my thread I just posted about Netbook vs Notebook in this forum since I want either a Dell Inspiron or a Studio. I sure hope the Mini 10 is released by Summertime... :D

Oohh..I use the sleeve to protect the I9..when putting it in my tote, or my handbag! ;) And it has worked out great! I think you should be able to fit the I9 into a decent sized handbag! The Mini 10 would prob's fit into a small-to-med. sized tote/handbag. :D Have you considered a cross backpack? One that can be used as a handbag and backpack.

I can see the I10, fitting nicely into that :D

I replied to your thread that you created ;)

Read and replied, thanks Cin, you definitely made me feel more confident in my desire for a full sized lappy. Though I still might get a I-10 first. :D

I haven't got a cross backpack but that just might be a good thing to get when the time comes. I can see a sleeve is going to be needed regardless of whatever method I use to port the computer around in. Thanks so much for your replies tonight, I really love this board and the people here are just so helpful! So glad someone on the writing board I go to linked me here. :D

Yes, I think full sized lappy will work good for you and what you want to do with writing! :D

The Netbooks are more for portablity, companions to your lappy's, internet usage, etc :D A take and go, type of thing!

You can get some nice backpacks for the Netbooks, and for all sized notebooks!!! NBR is a great place..everyone is very nice in general, and of course very helpful!

I am really set on getting a full sized lappy after all the posting tonight, I can get a outlet lappy for less then we paid on the desktop new. I think it will just ROCK to have a 15" full size laptop. Thanks for all your help tonight Cin! :D

After the $50 off the Mini and $10 off the mouse I went ahead and kept it. I called 3 times and each time I was told I would have to pay a 15% re-stocking charge and pay shipping back. Or, take an additional $60 total off the price. I was given case numbers for both and need to call back to make sure my account was credited. So at least it was a great price afterall.

It arrived yesterday in perfect condition (from the Outlet as "Previously Ordered New") and I have removed a bunch of stuff I don't need. I still need to test everything like making sure all the ports and keys work. The Nano 450 mouse is cool and the receiver is really tiny (main reason I chose it). I need to get a cheap USB CD/DVD-ROM for a clean install at some point and update the BIOS. I also need a cheap sleeve. Any input and links for those two items greatly appreciated. In the meantime I have a little 1g thumb drive and a 80g WD external drive to move things around.

So far I am loving it. The one idiosyncratic thing is it won't save my desktop icons on the right side. There is a fix for that somewhere though.

    Thanks for asking Pickles.
