What have we heard about a mini 10... that would be cool. I did awhile back but then the 12 came out.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
Thanks for the heads up, that is pretty cool. I might actually have to upgrade to that when it comes out. I really want a slightly higher resolution, some apps just don't like 600 lines of horizontal resolution.
-
Yes thanks a bunch..... I know I'll probably have to get my mits on it.
The mini 12 I didn't like though. -
My only complaint with that was the lack of SSD option, what did you not like about it?
-
Thanks..saw it.
I saw it, it looks nice. A 10 inch will be a nice add for Dell.
I'm still reviewing, myself....will add later.
Cin. -
Yes Cin, I'm curious what you think. Would you go for another???
Or stick with the 9 . If money wasn't object.
Jane -
I don't know..the 10" looks sweet...and so do a few other upcoming releases by Dell!
If money wasnt an option, oh yeah...I would be owning one upon release!
One can never, have enough electronic *gadgets*
Cin
-
Yes I agree Cin... one can never ever ever have enough
electronic items.
at least in my mind.. xo -
Jane..very, very true!
I'm testing out a pair of my new earphones, that I got a great deal on about a month ago! They are working out really well with my I9!~
How long is your startup process on your I9??
Cin
-
Oh.. I'll have to time it.... I haven't actually got a number.
I put in the extra ram that had a little more umph.
On snow ball it wouldn't accept it. But Ruby sees it and it runs
pretty quick now...
But then I tend to be a speed freak.
Still love your 1530 suggestion, what a lovely computer it is.
Sorry off subject a bit. -
I'm testing out a pair of my new earphones, that I got a great deal on about a month ago! They are working out really well with my I9!~
I'm selling practically everything in my house and garage now and found some old Bose headphones.... They work so well with the Mini 9.
I'm lovin it. -
Hey Jane!
Yes that would be cool if you could time it and let me now!
I'm just curious! Have a fast, running machine is a good thing!
Aah that's ok..it was a nice suggestion!
I'm having fun changing backgrounds on my I9!
Cin
-
Oh thats cool! Bose's are good!
Finding old things is fun, and reusing even funner!
Cin
-
WOW it's about 39 seconds.. that seems slow.. but looks fast when you are watching it ... huh I have a 64 ssd I was going to put in but i'm chicken.
afraid it will run slower and I lose everything.... -
I tested my start up.....40 seconds.
And, yes it does look faster when you are watching it...lol.
I don't think that will slow you down, and you shouldn't lose everything
Cin
-
How are you measuring start up? From when you press the power button until when?
-
From when I hit the power button, til my icon tray is complete.
Cin
-
Me too from hitting of the button till icon tray is complete and wireless is ready.
-
Yup
Pretty good!
I'm bringing my I9 to work tomorrow, it will be fun
Cin
-
Cin, what place do you find the best for your wallpapers?
-
Me too Im getting it ready to go.....Unfortunately do not have wireless I can tap into, so I will have to use the bluetooth. -
I am really groovin' on these 2 sites as of late:
www.wallcoo.com,
and....
www.interfacelift.com
Here is the one I am currently using on my I9 from wallcoo.com:
It's a cool site!
Cin
-
oh thank you.. say have noticed they are selling the mini 9 with at and t broadband? Does that mean a sprint broadband card could be available for these minis? Just curious as then I could use it at work...
)))
-
You can use the USB card for it, but the AT&T ones take advantage of the Minis SIM card slot.
-
Yeah, I did notice that! Not sure on the Sprint one, though!
Thanks for the helpful information, atbnet!

sonoritygenius Goddess of Laptops
oo I havent checked on here for a while..
Now that Mini 10 is out - that looks WAY too appealing for me
Gotta wait
Cin' have you reviewed your i9 yet? (sorry I may have missed it in the last 100 pages
)
-
Yeah the Mini 10 looks to be sweet!
Nope, I haven't had the chance to finish it ~ I've been dealing with some personal things going on....
Hopefully, I can get it completed fairly soon. I'll let you know as soon as I do!
Cin
-
Oh! I was hoping that I could use the same slot they use for the
ATT broadband with a sprint card the same way...
but no huh? -
Unfortunately not as Sprint is CDMA and doesn't use a SIM card.
-
I got an even better price. I called to return it as I just got a notice of being laid off and they took $50 off the mini & $10 off the mouse to keep it.
-
Well thanks for the info.. I'll continue my bluetooth.
i hope the mini 10 offers more options in that area. -
Howdy Jane!
Did you have a chance to play around with desktop backgrounds yet, for your I9??
(warning: it can be addictive)
Cin
-
Yeah, I had read that you were laid off and what a bummer. Sorry to hear that. So, was it a deal or no deal?? Are you still getting the mini9?
-
Just joined the Mini9 club
Procured a base model Cherry Red, 512MB ram, 4GB SSD , No webcam, No BT, Ubuntu 8.04 for $227 (Previously Ordered New from Dell Outlet)
Intend to upgrade the RAM with a spare 2GB stick. Perhaps use a 16GB SDHC card for storage.
I found the sound to be ridiculously low - I take it operating this with ear phones is a given? or am I missing something? -
Welcome, and congrat's on your purchase!
You ordered the same color as me...YOU are going to enjoy it!
And, even w/out the Ubuntu or BT.....$227 is an awesome price for the I9
Yes, you will want to use earphones when you want to...But the sound on the Netbook, isn't so bad!
When does it ship?
Cin
-
Thanks Cin,
Already have it in my hand. Ordered it Friday, they shipped it on saturday (Before I could have second thoughts!) - delivered to home today! -
Sweet!
I hope you really enjoy it!
I installed CCleaner and RevoUninstaller to clean up some of the extra's received on mine
And, of course Avira AV, and SAS
It's a great little Netbook, you shall find.

Hey Cin? Do you have a USB DVD drive for Garnet? I am wondering if that one they have on the dell site is as good as the one I see on Walmart's site, I like that they carry Dell's but they don't have the mini 9's yet. I SO want to touch one....LOL!!! I think they are sweet machines, but I think the Mini 10 will be worth waiting for. And I only heard of it here on the NBR yesterday when I saw the thread on it.
So is a DVD really useful? I can appreciate that it wouldn't be too portable and I read reviews on Dell's site about it being bigger then the computer itself. So it's not like I would take the DVD drive everywhere. I would leave that at home on my desk. But I wonder how necessary it is to get one right away.
-
I ordered this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...C-DealNews&cm_mmc=AFC-DealNews-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA
And, am still awaiting it's arrival...it's on backorder..I just found out
A friend referred me to this..and I'm looking forward to receiving it!
You will pay too much on Dell's site for one..unless you have some good discounts. You should check: newegg.com, tigerdirect, buy.com, amazon, etc
Better pricing!
Either one that you order, you will like..But if I were you..I would wait on the I10...
Seem's like that's the one you want!
I will be leaving my DVD Drive at home....unless I need to take it *remote* with me per se!
I think its always a good idea to have one, esp. for a Netbook
You will also want to get a nice looking sleeve to protect.
Cin
-
Do you think a sleeve is the way to go for a person in a wheelchair? I ask only because I use one to get around and have to have a long shoulder strap for my purse and I am not so sure the mini 10 would fit in my handbag. I saw the one you ordered and it was sure cute. It might be worth buying a bigger purse though...LOL!!!
I was thinking of a backpack, but I am not sure. So conflicted as you can see by my thread I just posted about Netbook vs Notebook in this forum since I want either a Dell Inspiron or a Studio. I sure hope the Mini 10 is released by Summertime...
-
Oohh..I use the sleeve to protect the I9..when putting it in my tote, or my handbag!
And it has worked out great! I think you should be able to fit the I9 into a decent sized handbag! The Mini 10 would prob's fit into a small-to-med. sized tote/handbag.
Have you considered a cross backpack? One that can be used as a handbag and backpack.
I can see the I10, fitting nicely into that
I replied to your thread that you created
Cin
-
Read and replied, thanks Cin, you definitely made me feel more confident in my desire for a full sized lappy. Though I still might get a I-10 first.
I haven't got a cross backpack but that just might be a good thing to get when the time comes. I can see a sleeve is going to be needed regardless of whatever method I use to port the computer around in. Thanks so much for your replies tonight, I really love this board and the people here are just so helpful! So glad someone on the writing board I go to linked me here.
-
Yes, I think full sized lappy will work good for you and what you want to do with writing!
The Netbooks are more for portablity, companions to your lappy's, internet usage, etc
A take and go, type of thing!
You can get some nice backpacks for the Netbooks, and for all sized notebooks!!! NBR is a great place..everyone is very nice in general, and of course very helpful!
Cin
-
I am really set on getting a full sized lappy after all the posting tonight, I can get a outlet lappy for less then we paid on the desktop new. I think it will just ROCK to have a 15" full size laptop. Thanks for all your help tonight Cin!
-
No problem! Whatever choice you make it will be the right one, I'm sure!
Cin
-
After the $50 off the Mini and $10 off the mouse I went ahead and kept it. I called 3 times and each time I was told I would have to pay a 15% re-stocking charge and pay shipping back. Or, take an additional $60 total off the price. I was given case numbers for both and need to call back to make sure my account was credited. So at least it was a great price afterall.
It arrived yesterday in perfect condition (from the Outlet as "Previously Ordered New") and I have removed a bunch of stuff I don't need. I still need to test everything like making sure all the ports and keys work. The Nano 450 mouse is cool and the receiver is really tiny (main reason I chose it). I need to get a cheap USB CD/DVD-ROM for a clean install at some point and update the BIOS. I also need a cheap sleeve. Any input and links for those two items greatly appreciated. In the meantime I have a little 1g thumb drive and a 80g WD external drive to move things around.
So far I am loving it. The one idiosyncratic thing is it won't save my desktop icons on the right side. There is a fix for that somewhere though.
Thanks for asking Pickles. -
It's a sweet netbook..you will like it
I ordered this external DVD drive from newegg.com for mine...it was $49.99 when I ordered...still, $59.95 is a good price:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...C-DealNews&cm_mmc=AFC-DealNews-_-NA-_-NA-_-NA
I also ordered this sleeve for my I9..It works out just great...$3.62 + free shipping you can't beat that:

Enjoy!
