The AT&T Laptop Connect plan also allows you to access any of their hotspots. Another Win-Win.

guys/gals
has anyone compiled a known working list of SSD drives for the Mini 9?
i would much rather stick with the STEC if financially possible but MLC will work i guess. (i just dont like the MLC based desktop drives, so ...)
thanks!!
also why are companies like Super Talent offering 2 SSD cards, one is 50mm long and the other is 70mm long and saying users can choose which one they want.
obviously the 70mm long SSD is not going to fit, wth is the deal?
i am seeing tons of SSD drives on eGay that are too long and, again, obviously will not fit but they say they are for the mini 9. -
Thanks. I guess I better set my Paypal back up for the sleeve. That is a crazy price indeed.
I am going to check Craig's List for an external drive as I only need it for re-installing. But thanks so much for the link.
-
What is a laptop connect card? Is that the same as an aircard? I use a Verizon Aircard that plugs into a usb port and I have wireless anywhere I go. I use it with a router at home for wireless access to all my computers. I get great speed. $60 per month.
-
It's like your Aircard, but it's built into the notebook. So, no card needed.
-
NP
....That sleeve is a good one. Let me know if you end up ordering it!
Also, I would prob's check Craig's list too, for what your needs are!
Too bad, there isn't anyone you know that you could borrow one from, for a bit of time!
What do you think of the Aircard, Mick?

These plans are still a little too expensive for me to consider one. I don't travel enough to justify adding another sixty bucks to my monthly expenses.
-
Yes, for me too..I don't need or want any extra expenses, per se.
As long as my I9 works for me wireless where need be, I'm happy
Cin
-
I added some $ to my paypal account but it takes 2-3 business days to show up. Good to know you recommend the sleeve. Sure can't beat the price!
Craig's didn't have a drive listed but I'll keep checking there. If nothing shows up by Tuesday I'll order a new slim USB powered 24X reader I found for $12.99. -
Yeah, you will like it once you receive the sleeve for your I9!
Where did you find that 24x reader for $12.99~!

Tescos have a good deal on linux Mini 9s at the mo' http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-8967.aspx
The VAT reduction drops the price a bit more and there are Clubcard points etc than can drop the deal below £190 for some. -
Nice, Nan'...that's a decent deal!

Living out in the boonies all I could get is dialup so the aircard was a blessing. I like it so much now I would not switch even if cable was available. Now I have internet access at home and anywhere I go.
-
What kinds of speeds do you get on wireless out in the boonies?
http://speedtest.net/ -
I'd do the same if I was in your situation, but I'm already shelling out for broadband at home. So, the thought of dropping more cash on another broadband connection just doesn't sit too well with me.
-
I have Broadband too (Comcast), and will use that as much as possible for the nice $$$ amount I'm paying for it.
If I didn't, I would prob's consider getting the aircard.

geeks.com But ground shipping is $8. A wee steep IMHO for a little over a pound.

Yeah..did you check tigerdirect, or Frys??

My Mini 9 gets pretty hot underneath. Does anyone know of any small tilting stands or something that would be a good solution to keep it elevated a bit? Also maybe a small tilt table or something that would be good to use on the couch or bed.
-
I wouldnt worry about it. Some people get over-worried about heat. Unless its crashing, locking up, etc its fine.
Not to mention, it shouldnt be too hot. The atom processors run much cooler then their big Core 2 Duo brothers -
How about this for tilting while on a flat surface?

How I tether my verizon xv6800 to my dell mini?
-
That's really not too bad w/a 9C
I don't know if I would do it..but its helfpul for alot, I'm sure
Thanks for providing the linky

I'd never slap a battery that size on a netbook, but I get why other people do. Battery life takes a backseat to size, for me.
-
Me either..it's interesting looking though! I like my Netbook w/the minimals. I like it looking just the way it is

Did you all see this thread entitled Intel Atom N280 processor coming in Q2/Q3? It says, "to be available in 10-inch netbooks from Asustek, Acer, and Gigabyte. The Atom N280 has a 1.66GHz clockspeed and 667MHz FSB, and will make use of Intel's GN40 chipset." Could this be a possibility for the upcoming Dell Mini-10? Or is it using the original Atom?
-
I get good speeds although as far as speedtest.net I am not sold on their results. I fly right along and I can now purchase a pc game online and download it within 5-10 minutes where it used to take me 6 hours. Verizon has no contracts if you elect to go that way plus it has a 30 day trial service. No, I don't work for Verizon I am retired after 29 years from a county government and it is so nice to have the speed now that I had at work.
-
Actually, I would love to have a battery that lasted more that 3 1/2 hrs but not enough to jack it up the way the larger batteries do now. You would think that this would be a priority with the mfg's since portablility is the buzz word.
-
If you are asking how to do this I don't know but if you check out the evdo forums they may be able to help you.
-
I wonder if the new processor will go in the new Dell mini 10.
I hope so.. love speed.

Is the internet sharing application on the start menu? If not, plug in your device to your computer, use active sync to browse the contents of the device, look in the Windows folder for file called like "Internet Sharing.lnk", move that to the Start Menu folder, then it should appear on the start menu. From there just run the app, plug in the USB cable, then select 'Connect'.
At least thats how I did it on my windows mobile device... -
Thanks, PD...I was just about to peruse this and you linked it here!
It would be nice if it were!

I just received my 3 blue SRCD's (Software Restoration CDs). I signed into the Dell chat option yesterday afternoon and FedEx just delivered them! The SRCD's are not like the XP disk. They restore your hard drive exactly as shipped by Dell from the factory.
There was no charge and they make come in handy.
If anyone else is interested in getting their own set of SRCD's just post here and I'll provide the link to a site with that info. -
That's cool you got them!
You may as well post the link
It will be a good add to the thread!

Go here. There is other useful info in the same thread.
-
Most folks received the XP or drivers disk and not the SRCD's. That's why I used the chat. I was able to save the session ID and it was clear.
Did you use the form? Did you get the 3 blues CDs? If so, how long did it take? -
Thanks for the links, both of you!
It's very helpful info!

Hey all, in case any of you want to pick up another ~ Mini 9....They are 20% off right now at the Dell Outlet! : coupon code to use: DMV4FV9VSH$83M
This is a good deal, I'm trying to convince a friend to a Mini 9 from there!
Cin
-
It doesn't surprise me that the price is going down on them due to the unveiling of the mini10. IMO folks will hold off to get the full review. In the mean time I'm loving my 9
-
Do you think they will continue to produce the I-9 after the introduction of the I-10? Will they follow the lead of Asus and continue to have all sizes?
-

When the next generation of Atom comes out in the fall, I hear it might be even more power efficient than the current ones despite the higher fsb and clock speed. If Dell can keep the Mini's fanless and give the 9 an 6-cell, I might have to switch from my EEE!
-
Other than the Dell HSDPA card, what other cards work in the Mini 9?
-
Count me in!! Can't hope and hope it turns out that way.
-
Oh I think so. It will depend on how they sell. It is my opinion, when Dell stops selling a lot of a specific model they release them to Walmart, BB and Costco.
-
Of course the PDA market is nearly dead with the advent of the Smart Phone, but when Dell had the Axim it was an excellent PDA and in high demand. I think the I-9 will be the same way if they can kick the battery life up to a 6 cell. Also, give the option of a HDD instead of the SSD.
By the way, I'm still using an antiquated IPAQ, but am planning on migrating that info onto an I-9 or I-10 at some point. -
At this point, the Dells don't have anything on your 901. Your Eee is a beast, from a performance standpoint, compared to the I9.
-
I'm glad that the price is going down. It's about time, the $299 price point should've been there at the beginning, IMO..!
Alas, that didn't stop me, or others that purchased the I9
And, I think that most of us got some really good deals...whether it be a purchase from dell.com, or from Dell's Outlet!
I still think my I9 is sweet-sleek-and sexy
Point well taken, when I see a notebook at Walmart, and not on the site..then you know!

No, the I9 does have a couple things I like:
1. Fanless. My EEE fan is not as loud as the Inspiron 9100 at full speed, but it is still there. It runs more often with Windows 7 than XP.
2. No black screen at boot up into W7 or Vista. This is a problem that plagues EEE's that don't use a specific bios (I don't use it because it is old, 1101 vs the current 1808).
3. Random black screens. Some EEE's also suffer a problem where the screen goes blank and the only way to fix it is to restart. Mine seems to do it at least once per day, had it happen multiple times in one day last year.
Other than that, the 6-cell battery, N wireless, matte screen, and multitouch touchpad on my EEE are better.
When netbooks with the new N280 (maybe N290, N300 too?) come out, I'll be looking at the Dell's. -
Well, I'm hoping Dell upgrades their battery when they come out with new models. A six cell would certainly be nice!
