Is anyone planning on running Vista on thiers?
Are there any known issues?

I reckon I'd get used to the keyboard, but I'd still like a double height enter key. I do think it's a pity that some of the keys like the apostrophe aren't so prominent, but hey, Cin', who uses apostrophes these days
Pretty good for a cheap SSD, which is why it's sometimes getting a netbook with a hard drive if only for the performance hike. Dell are using different suppliers so it's possible that other SSD makes may not be so good.
I see Toshiba are going to release a netbook too. -
lmao..it will be a interesting keyboard to use, either way!
Toshiba? where? when? Can you linky??? thx!

Actually, I ordered 9/4 with overnight shipping from the Dell EPP Store.
XP
1gb ram
black
16gb
bluetooth
1 mp camera...
I think the people who have received them are all in the UK so far. -
I ordered the same maxed out black build on 9/8 with a ESD of 9/23.
I checked 3-5 day shipping though... stupid! -
about people in the US getting theirs when they ordered after I did.
-
-
My complete speculation is that the US orders are being made in a different plant than the UK orders that have been received.
It's possible UK is fulfilled in China and US in Malaysia?
Any other ideas?
-
Or it could just be that the orders in the UK are second touched (final assembly) in Ireland, which is like you know....about an hour away.
-
I guess we'll just wait and see... -
I was going to ask if a SSD drive needs to have the recommended 50% free space like a traditional hard drive, but I found the answer.
Maintain At Least 15% of Free Drive Space.
Why?
Once the disk is almost full to its capacity, the user experiences massive and prolonged freeze times.
How to Check?
Drive free space is shown in My Computer.
How to Change?
* Delete Unused files or Programs
* Delete Temporary Files
* Delete Temporary Internet Files
* Empty Recycle Bin

On a side note, any comments on this? - http://www.gizmodo.com.au/2008/09/dell_inspiron_mini_9_has_hidden_builtin_3g-2.html -
So, it looks like several of you have 9/22 ESD's..I'm just now checking to see if you all ordered on the same day!
Cin -
I ordered my Dell Mini a week ago. Ship date 9/22 with next day delivery. It's been in production since purchase. You wouldn't think there would be much production needed on such a little laptop. All they have to do is add a 1 GB stick of ram to mine.
-
Jeepers! It really look's like most peep's delivery date is 9/22!!!!!
And, your leaving on Sunday, right???
Cin -
-
My bro' is maybe ordering on Monday!
Cin -
I know the ones being sold on QVC are made in China!
-
I just went over to QVC's site, to check out how they were selling the I9!
Here's the linky in case you all want to take a look!
http://www.qvc.com/qic/qvcapp.aspx/...ROM?cm_re=PROMOTIONS-_-2-_-DELLMININETBOOK,P2
What do you guy's think of the pricing on it there?
Cin -
QVC Price: $675.00
Advance Order Price:
$579.00
Wow...that is steep. Laughable how they start at a really inflated $719 then make it seem like a steal at $579 -
-
US systems are built in Asia and then flown to the US. I'm pretty sure second touch final assembly still occurs in Nashville. UK would have a different process.
-
-
But the 3 year???
Dell must like the 22nd as an ESD!!!!
He thinks I will take it and keep it. LOL

shoelace_510 8700M GT inside... ^-^;

I want to see a true boot up to windows, not the finalizing installation boot that he went through.
-
Ooohh. nice..You all know how I feel!

The owner responded to my request:

Obviously I don't have a laptop to put in the case yet, but the quality of the case surprised me. It is just a little bit larger than the specifications of the Mini at 9.25"x7". Assuming the Mini fits well it in (and judging from the dimensions, it will), I highly recommend this case. -
It would make me a little antsy receiving the case, before my I9......I would be so ready to use it!
Thanks for posting it!
Cin -
Personally I like the top case, I would hate for the zipper to get smashed up against my Dell. Other than that the case looks nice.
-Doug -
Hopefully someone will make a tight slip on sleeve with no zippers. I have one for my Kindle and really like it.
-
Ideally, I would like a really nice protective sleeve for it!
That way, I can put it in my handbag or tote (as it would easily fit in)
Then I'm good to go!And, I believe either of those would also work, for me!!
Cin -
Can one of you guys that have the Mini 9 take the back access panel off and take a few pics? I'm curious to see if it has an empty mini-PCIe slot in the back for a WWAN card or an extra SSD.
-

I just ordered mine and I think I did ok considering I'm getting the att broadband card. My setup cost me 497.99 no tax and free s/h. Don't have a ship date, but will report back once the order has been approved and accepted by Dell.

2) Where did you get the AT&T built-in cellular mobile broadband (HSPA 7.2)?
3) Does it replace the wireless card or the bluetooth? The Dell (from the pic above) doesn't have a port to accept a mobile broadband card... I'm confused. -
So is that integrated WWAN? I though there was supposed to be a mini card slot on the left.
-
I ordered mine using my military discount where there is a premiere site for AAFES customers. www.aafes.com
If you have friends that are retired or active duty they can order from the site. Right now the three models are going for
332 Linux 4 gb SSD
382 Windows XP 8 gb SSD
401 Windows XP 16 gb SSD, it cost me 16.00 for the bluetooth module and 80.00 for the ATT broadband card.
It does not replace the wireless g card or bluetooth module.
The picture below shows the proper slot for the wwan adapter.
Check out the service manual which has been posted many times. You'll see sections for all of the different cards.

Here is a picture of the Dell premier site.
-
I'm confused. Dell doesn't offer the ATT card anywhere I see...
-
Too bad that Dell would gimp the I910 like that. Without the Mini-PCIe connector you couldn't even add another card whether WWAN or WPAN or whatever. Wonder why they would do this?
