I have to say though... I rather pay a little more $$ for a better quality device... The common thread seems to be that the Dell Mini 9 is a pretty nice build in terms of quality...
-
I'm getting impatient!
-
yeah... I like the 'Red' too... black is ok but will probably show the fingerprints more...

I've just had mine delivered and i think it's great! I've had an eee pc 900 for a while but the 4gb ssd failed. The dell seems far more responsive and the keyboard is better too. the only downsides i can see are: there is no hdd activity light and file compression was enabled as standard in xp. apart from these very minor things i'm happy!
Oliver -
I'm happy you got it! What color??
Please, if you would..will you provide pics and a little review
I know we all want to see pics, and something on how you *the owner* feels, once you get to know it more!)

Thanks! I'll take some pictures and try to prepare a little review. I'm in the UK and it's black, 16gb ssd, 1gb ram (2gb on order!), webcam and xp home.
Another small thing i've noticed is the battery light doesn't come on when i'm charging the battery, but the power cord is great, there is no block, just a slightly over sized plug. Battery life seems good, i'm down to 46% at the moment and it's been on battery for over two hours.
I've been on it for about three hours in total now, uninstalling a lot of the stuff it comes with (google search, toolbar, mcafee etc) and been doing some updates and other bits and bobs. It's barely warm which is a big improvement over the eee 900 which always got hot even with the fan on.
As mentioned before, the keyboard is great. With the eee pc there were some buttons that took some extra pressure to work, but the inspiron seems to have a great keyboard and the keys are slightly larger. It's a bit strange having the function buttons built into the letter keys but i don't think it's a bad thing.
The build quality seems really good. It's all solid. The screen is very good and i like the gloss finish. The viewing angle is good from left to right but it does seem to suffer a little if you tilt the screen too much.
I will report back again soon but I'm very happy!
Thanks
Oliver

I just stumbled on a couple of links!
The first shows that UK customers shouldn't be limited to the top of the range version much longer: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-8967.aspx
And the second is for the Inspiron Z530 12" model: http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-8424.aspx Price is the same as a fully loaded I9.
Both should be available from the week commencing 06/10. -
Glad you like the pictures
Another thing I've just noticed is the function keys only go up to F10 as far as I can see, so F11 for full screen browsing could be a bit tricky!
I'll post some more pictures and info tomorrow.
Oliver -
Very nice pictures, thank you! You got yours really quick ~week since launch. Do you think you could take a picture with it on top of a ream of paper or even a single sheet to kind of give a reference.

Interesting...
I'd like to see how it works when you are away from home, and out-and-about for you how long the batt, actually lasts
Are you going to get a bag, backpack, or messenger bag for it? I saw the ones on Dell's site...Just curious!
Can you take a real close-up of the side/rear to show the batt, for me please!
Thanks!
Cin -
I normally just throw my laptop/s into my backpack with whatever else might be in there and have the same intentions of doing the same with the mini if it will stand up to the abuse.
With every new laptop, I tell myself I should purchase a sleeve however once the "new car" smell wears off, I know I'll be back to just tossing it in my pack. -
Thanks in advance! -
While Im close to getting the Dell Mini 9, the shortage of storage space really has me looking elsewhere specifically at the Acer Aspire One instead...
While I am a big proponent of Solid State technology, the price break just hasnt caught up with the market yet. The drives Dell is offering just seem too small for me (4/8/16GB), 4GB is a jump drive, even with the 16GB by the time you load XP, MSOffice, a few other programs and some selected music what are you going to have left? I could live with a 32GB drive, but cant justify the cost to upgrade.
With the Acer Aspire One you can pre-order on Amazon for $399, you get a 160GB HD, 1GB RAM, 6 cell battery, free S/H and no tax for most states. This gets you tons of storage space (downloading 2GBs of photos off my camera wont be a problem), and a longer life battery.
I had also looked at the MSI Wind with the 10 screen, but it doesnt offer any increase in resolution, so I would rather have the smaller form factor.
I like Dells ease of access for upgrades, the fact I can put in a 2GB stick of RAM, the AC power pack, basically the shortage of storage space is my only big problem at the moment.
Does anyone think Dell will release a version that will take a standard laptop hard drive in the near future? -
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
Dell looks like it sends:
Mcaffe cd
XP cd
Driver cd
Microsoft Works cd -
-
Oliver can you load up a site like youtube or BBC (do they stream episodes?) and let us know how it performs?

Just curious... It has been reported that the 16gb Mini 9's are using the STEC SSD drives and the 4/8GB Mini 9's are using the Intel SSD drives... Performance on the STEC drives are meant to be better when compared to the Intel drives...
It would be nice to see a comparison between the two spec'd Mini 9's (8GB vs. 16GB)... -
Is this the NEW 12" Dell Atom based Netbook? October?
http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.204-8424.aspx -

Dell has been designing some low quality cheap and unreliable machines, yet they charge more with less value for the 910.
-
I'm hoping that mine comes tomorrow.

Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
How cheap will the Z530 be since the Inspiron 13 is already only $700? It better be less than $500 otherwise there is no point in getting over the Inspiron 13.
-
I'd also like to see a shot of the innards G3 wise
-
So are these shipping out early or what? I ordered mine the day they were released, and the estimated ship date was the 19th. I'd love to get it early!
-
I bet you do get it earlier!....(should I have stated that)? LOl
ESD is usually, over-projected...sounds like lot's of peep's are getting them earlier, already!
I bet you can't wait!
Cin -
I was wondering everybody's opinion. I ordered mine the 10th and
it said ship date the 24th. I thought I would be safe as I'm gone all
next week and then back Sunday.
I'm probably safe don't yah think?
And this is a sign for item isn't it?
I've had such bad problems with shipping lately , scarey... -
I ordered this a few days ago:
http://www.amazon.com/Neoprene-Sleeve-Inspiron-Notebook-included/dp/B001FDNBFW
I'll let you know how it goes! -
Such as the automated phone line??
It looks like a few peep's received their's earlier..but yes I would hope you would be safe....not fun having to worry, though
Cin -
Oh, I like that..nice, simple..yet classy!
I like accessories for lappys, esp. bags, sleeves, etc
Be sure to let us know how it works out with your I9!
Cin -
Yes, I can check online probably that's a good idea.
Such bad luck lately I would hate to have to worry about it....
Most dell's you have to sign for I think or they don't leave.. -
Oliverpi,
Congrats on the new computer? When did you order your I9 and what was your ESD? -
With DHL..if you are not there to receive your lappy..they are supposed to leave a pickup tag on your door for you. That's what happened when my 1530 was delivered. I wasn't home, they left a pickup tag....and I went to the DHL depot after work to pick it up!
*fingers crossed for yah*
Cin! -
That's what hoping and if I miss it totally well that would better than
having it stolen. Just had a mother of the groom dress set on my mailbox a mile from my house.. and it was stolen so I'm weary....
lol -
Hi
I'm at work now but will post some more pictures later. I ordered on Sunday 7th September and the original ESD was 22nd September.
Oliver -
haha slip up there by Tesco!
OS: Linux Ubunto! -
Can't say I understand those benchmarks, are they decent?
-
Oliverpl - Thanks for the pictures: I've been wondering if the Mini has a proper UK enter key. Sadly it doesn't but I find myself liking this machine more and more. It's so small for a 9" and versatility etc is really good.
It's going to be interesting to see which design features will be carried through to the 12" model.
-
I think I may have a family member purchasing though ~ in black!
So, hopefully...if ordered I can play around w/it once they receive it! *Cin' takes it and runs* LMAO!
I actually don't mind the look of the keyboard!!
Cin -
-
It may help..I did that a couple of times while awaiting my 1530..and it helped me
Good luck...
