Nope, not at all. Its very light. 3mm thick aluminium casing and for the size, I was expecting it to be heavier but its very light. In fact, when I read about the fact that you can carry this cooler around, I was not sure if this could be as easy as its said. But now, yes, it can be carried around :) No defects, no dents, though the USB cable holder at the bottom, is wobbling very very slightly. but not a big deal though. Its all fitting in very well. Once on the table, its got a really firm hold on to the surface. It doesn't keep moving or sliding or whatever you may like to call it. The rubber strips on the top are also pretty good in preventing the laptop from sliding around.. So the rubber grip strips are very nice too.

Btw, tried this thing with a friends laptop here (Dell Inspiron), and it did bring down the idle temperatures by around 6-8 C, with the cooler fan around 3 or 4 notch above the min rpm. And this is with a normal battery, and so the chassis is sitting right on the cooler. Its very very silent.

I want to test it on my system - will do in another 5 or 6 hours :( :( :( but I left my laptop at home.... :) Cant wait though :)

By the way, with all the tilt questions and doubts I had, its not that much. The cooler by itself has around 7 deg without the riser. And its not that much of a tilt to make it uncomfortable. Its in fact nice and pleasant tilt. And with the 9-cell also having a reasonable tilt, I think both added up wouldn't make it 'too much tilt' and first look (visualizing) says both should be fine.. I mean it would be fine to work with the 9-cell battery slotted into the laptop I guess. Have to check the temperatures though.

Looking at the performance with the Dell Inspiron now, the air seemed to kind of evenly distributed all around and at least *feeling* the air flow it felt kind of even.

So there.. see you around team.

Heyy CIN :) :) Princess, *me takes a bow and offers a plate of fresh strawberries from the royal garden*, Good morning. And nice to see you in good spirits :) :)

6-8 hours is quite the wait! Maybe I'll have to go out and get one of those Zalman Coolers myself. I really like your pre-assesment/review of it so far though. Hopefully the actual usage of the Zalman will be just as good if not better!

With this post, I'm only one step away.... hrmmm.... I gotta make it count! Thanks for cheering me on fondue! :) :)

    That looks yyyuuummmmmmyyy.. :)

I am ok, Princess.. :) but too much work :( :( and its already like 5:15 PM!!!   Anyways.. Yeah the Zalman is nice.. and btw, there are two usb ports on the cooler. One for connecting it to the laptop and apparently we can use the other to connect an USB device (though the power consumption must be less than 1.9w I think) to the computer through the cooler!!!! Hmmm... Nice. :)

    Hola wonderful Dell Team,

    Hope everyone is great.. :)

I am trying out the zalman now.. A quick few points I just noticed...

    * without the 9-cell, the laptop sits fine, lid closed, but when I open the lid, it starts tilting backwards (I dont know if its because of that empty space, the place where the battery would have been). So I had to fix the 9-cell back in... strange, I found no one complain about this.. It was clearly wobbling backwards when I opened the lid.

** I had to take so much time to get the laptop placed on the cooler properly so that the laptop sits well on the vents with max use... now its fine...

*** temp' wise.. well, here they are.. So I fixed the 9-cell back into the laptop (b/c without it, the laptop was tilting backwards/wobbling while on the cooler) these are after startup and browsing on firefox, hw monitor running, the cooler fan at full speed. (min/max/current)

    THM_ - 37/57/51
    Core 0 - 35/54/45
    Core 1 - 39/58/48
    GPU core - 55/64/64
    HDD - 35/40/35

and this I can say that the cooler surely reduced the temp' than before..

will get back with temps after some stress/load/gpu burn in.

Btw, I still see GPU temp like hovering b/w 55-64. What does this mean? Or I mean, what is the fan at the base of the M1530, towards the back exactly for? (sorry i haven't stripped this thing to see inside yet)

    be back laterz.

    Hello team.. cin, cee, forte...

    whats up people?

I am still fiddling around and getting used to the cooler...

the tilt is quiet a lot.. you can imagine the 9-cell + the cooler.. anyways... at the moment, its kinda nice.. to sit back and type.

but still with the temperatures... I dont know.. I don't know if it will be better if the notebook was sitting without the 9-cell :( :( but I am not able to make it sit.. as I said before..

Anyways... Whats up people? 2000 posts and all :) :) well done everyone :) Keep going..

Oh great... the princess is getting a new phone *yet another reason to celebrate* ... ;) ;) Yeah.. I just posted there.. couple of deg' less with the cooler... so not bad.. and yeah, I always be nice, get permission and get gold too once in a while... ;) ;) :p lol...

Heyy Cee.. I am ok.. just messing around a bit :) and working a tiny little bit.. ;) :p lol....

werrrnnnnnn... whats up? Finally you manager to watch matrix!! :) now You have 2 more to go.. ;) ;)

Btw, FORTE (mainly) and others too if you are interested :) :), I thought you might wanna know this... I just figured out that cooling is more effective when I bring forward my laptop so that the main intake area of m1530 is almost or directly above the cooler vents.. so in my case, I did not bring it all the way forward because then the hard disk part goes out of range... so I played around a bit and now I have like 3/4ths (and a little bit more) of the m1530 intake is within the vents of the cooler... this would make the laptop sticking like 1 cm out of the front of the cooler, but its no problem because the front foot rests of the laptop sit on the rubber grip strip.. so no flex or movement or anything.. and the back part anyway seems to have some strong rubber ends at the base of the battery, so thats pretty much staying fixed as well.

THOUGH, I have no idea how effective it will be with the 6-cell battery.. but I would guess not much or may be 1 or 2 C lower than what I am seeing. And even with the 6-cell you would ahve to bring the laptop forward so that the intake sits on top of the holes in the cooler.. I have taken some pics.. will get it up if you want :) :) But yeah, removing the 9-cell was not really effective, as in I coudn't even get the laptop to sit stable.. don't know why. Is this true? as in people with 9-cell cannot work without the battery in place? because when I opened the lid, the laptop started doing a balancing act with the lid kind of pulling it back... you see what I mean? Anyway, forte.. its your choice now if u wanna get a zalman nc2000 :) for me, I would say its nice, its doing its job, its pretty silent even at full fan.. its a good thing, IMHO. :)

New cell phone? What model are you getting Cinny? Congrats! New stuff are always better than old stuff. :)

Hello wywern, yeah the first matrix movie is pretty great! The sequel feels long and not as great, the third one is better though! Once you've watched the first you've got to watch the rest!

Yeah, it makes sense that the cooling is most effective when its right above the vents. I was about to ask you if the place where the cool air blows out is right where the intake vent of the M1530 is. Looks like you've read my mind. :)

It would be great if you could take a few shots to see what it looks like. The reason why its not stable is because the battery has the little rubber feet that stick out so if you remove the battery, there will only be the two rubber feet in the front, which is why it kinda falls back, so its best to have the 9-cell in there, the 6-cell, any battery at all.

I have never tried working without the battery in place simply because I don't want the table to come in contact with the bottom of my notebook that is not the rubber feet, but I can imagine why it would do that.

If you can get some pics up of like I side view and maybe a frontal/overhead view, that would be spiffy! ^_^ :) :) :) :)

yeah yeah I am taking pics now... will put it up in a while..

Btw, yeah, and the 6 cell alone is like so damn expensive here, in case i wanted to changeover.. but then, yeah the 9-cell tipping back is for all the reasons you mentioned.. also me too don't want the lappy to be without its rubber shoe.. so there.. its not bad even now, with the 9-cell. Its cooling down.. atleast temps are reading bit lower than before.. and yeah.. I have to use it more and see how it feels in general. for now typing is nice.. *i have to get a better chair for myself though* lol... anyways.. will be back with pics.

Yeah, batteries are always expensive. What I did was order my M1530 with a 9-cell but went looking around on ebay and found a 6-cell being sold by someone who just received their M1530 and had ordered both the 9-cell and 6-cell, but decided they had no use for the 6-cell since they were planning on selling one of them to begin with.

I had them take a picture of their invoice to prove their ship date and box contents, which they did, so I was able to get it for 40 bucks. For that price, whats the worst that could happen right?

It came in the main very well protected and in perfect scratchless condition. Put it in my notebook, and I've been using it a lot more than my 9-cell just because I use my laptop on the sofa and all over the place. I get almost 3 hours with it after upgrading to the A09 bios, which is very very nice.

If you are up to it, you should look around and you might get lucky like I did.

I look forward to your pics! :) :)

Oh wow.. that is a great price you got it for.. I'll look around then.. :) :) Nice.

Anyway here are the pics (please note I dont have a cam with me right now and all the pics are taken with my cell ph cam and tried to make it as best as possible for now.. sorry if they are not clear or if they aren't what you' expected) :) :) If you want I can take better ones later and get it across here. For now, here they are.. in one of them you can see the underside of the laptop, the place where the intake is. In another one I just managed to get the vents on the cooler.. so you can imagine / see where the intake is sitting. Also I took some to show u how much I moved it forward, and also some to show you how much its lifted off the table with the mouse as a reference.. cheers..

Those are REALLY NICE pics for a cellphone! Those really exceeded my expectations. It looks very sleep and even with the 9-cell battery it doesn't look bad at all. Yeah, you've definitely just convinced me to buy one right there. I'm definitely going to have to get one of those.

The blue LED looks nice too and everything... I was worried about it being bumped out or looking odd, but it looks perfect! I can fully appreciate now why you like your Zalman. It definitely is a worthy purchase. I think I will get one when I return it school. Thanks.

    Once again, those pics are awesome! :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :)

Ohhh.. thank you thank you :) And I am glad you liked it and you were able to get the idea of what its like.

Of course, this zalman thing is very nice, its doing its job very well and its sleek, not too intrusive to your comfort.. And the 9-cell, well yes, to be honest, its not bad at all. Its got a pretty decent lift / tilt, and I am sure if you have a proper chair / desk height where you are comfortable, this thing is very nice to type in. Also I just realised that this way, I find myself not putting too much pressure on the keys or you know.. the keyboard is like, "better laid out for you"... U know what I am seeing. Its pretty nice. And the good thing is, with this 9-cell, when we feel we aren't loading up our comp, we could simply turn off the zalman and still we would have ventilation due to the 9-cell lift.... anyways :) I like it and I am happy I got this one... these days are really hot out here and even the room temp are like crap.. and between two days back and now, I do see a diff in temp with the cooler :) so as long as its doing its job, I like it and I think I am pleased with it. And if someone asks me, yes, I will for sure recommend it :)

    And thanks again Forte :) :) :) :)

Hey, Celeron-M's are great! I have a single core Celeron M myself on an older Inspiron, so, its no biggie. As long as it works, everything is great! :)

Thanks, I made it myself! It is a symbol that represents myself and a gift to myself for reaching 2000 posts today. I'm glad you like it. :) :) ^_^

Yeah, our greeter is very greety and peppy, all part of the welcome package. ^_^

Hola Forte.. Its nice here too.. a little breeze now n then.. a bit hot thought.

I am not using system restore now to restore my computer. I had this long standing issue with erratic system restore creation. I had Sys rest. enabled only for C: and not for D:... But for some strange reason there is a restore point being created even in D: though its unchecked / not selected.... Not a big deal in terms of space or anything. Just that there is something buggy around and I don't want that in my system :) I want my baby to be cllleeeaaannn and well behaved you see.. ;) ;) :p :p

Well, of course I can completely turn off the system restore thing because I any way back up all my data and also I do a complete PC backup every week. But still, as I told in some other places, I am slowly getting to work around these things, learning and stuff.. :) So I prefer having system restore on for now and its not affecting the performance at all for me.. So I just have it there.

And yes Forte, I think the tech knows what he is doing. Before this guy, I had written long, clear, step-by-step emails about whats going on and I was in communic. with another guy who was like a normal support personnel I guess.. then last week this issue was escalated and I have sent the tech' screenshots of whats wrong, before and after any troubleshooting, copy of my shadowstorage limits and allocations and so on... AND Also, since I have learnt so much here, I don't think I will go ahead and do all that the tech says.. ;) ;) :p lol.. I read his emails like 5 or 6 times, and then I go ahead.. Till now, they have been kinda sensible troubleshooting suggestions.. :) So there...

Anyways... Forte... tell me something nice, while I go get something sweet to eat..

Its a good thing that you got elevated to tech people that knowing what they are doing instead of giving you the common answer of reformatting your hard drive. ;) :)

Thats what a Dell tech support agent told me when I told them I accidentally deleted my registry while I was playing around with it. Apparently if they were to repair it, it would ocst $500 at a repair center. Luckily, I was able to read up and learn some pretty advanced stuff to recover it and save myself lots of money. *WHEW* :)

Its a good thing you are eating sweet foods. Sweet foods for a sweet person is always good! :) You might also want to make sure you are not sleeping late or anything like that since it does tend to cause migranes. The best thing to cure migraines is plenty of rest. Once you wake up, you will feel as if nothing has ever happened.

I really really hope you get better soon. I know how annoying they must be. Some Tylenol really helps too. Here are a few four and five leaf clovers for extra good luck in getting better quicker! :) :) :) :)

ahhhhhhhhhhhh... thats sweeter than the sweet food' I have at home right now :) :) :) Thank you so much Forte...

Yeah, I think the main prob is (as you all might know very well... lol lol.. :p :p ) I am sleeping very very late these days... and less. Anyways.. a bit of work now. but will be over soon :) and I tend to avoid pills mostly.. but with this migraine I just take a normal pain killer thats been working for me for the past 9 years.. so I stick with that and even this one not a lot.. usually once when I have this pain and if i have to do some work.. else I just rest and sleep it out... :)

Yeah the tech guys usually tend to say that and I really hate it when someone comes and tell me right away "go do a reinstall / go reformat your hd, there is no other way" and stuff like that... I mean come on.. at least spend some time thinking over it. even here it happened once, dont remember for what, they were like "ah time for a fresh install".. I think it was for the window resizing issue... and then I did not want to do an reinstall just for that ( I mean a reinstall for a major failure or virus attack or something is fine).. anyway I looked around, read a bit on the web, visited some forums, played around my system, and in the end, I went to backwards in my mind to what I was doing before this problem arose, and fixed it with a couple of clicks actually.. :)

    anyways.. all is well...

That's it I'm joining! I need another thread to show up in my CP so I have more to click on. Do I get a fancy sig thingy that says NBR Dell Team? Cause really that's what I want. My sig is naked and I am too lazy to make my own. :p ;)

Hi I'm Thund3rball, you might know me from such threads as TRT or What Song Are You Listening To? I like music, movies, video games, computers and mountain biking. My fave colour is orange - no blue - no green - bah... I have no idea what my fave colour is. Do I need a fave colour to join?

Okee doke. I will wait for NBR's Official #1 Angel to let me in. Hey just noticing... if Cin is the NBR Angel/Dell Princess why doesn't she have a special siggy that says so?

    WoOT!...WOOT! W0oT!!!

The Original NBR's #1 Angel / Dell Princess has arrived!
    lol,
and    ~ :spinny: :spinny:

What's up peep's??? Dweezil is not far behind! WoOT? We are having behaviors issues this week...HE thinks he is the BOSS..lmao.

So, Thund3rball, you want to be a member of the Dell Team, eh???

    Well...The #1 Angel/Princess: Welcome's you, officially!
So, sit back, chill and relax with us! ;) :) WE are an awesome group! ;) :)
Grab a siggy, if you want..if not no biggie...

Oh the NBR Angel thing, I had originally thought of that, and when I hit 700 it changed to that (and before that I used it in my user profile), but everyone has known me, and calls me Angel! That's how I am known, and as the Dell Princess when this thread was created!

I had to make a choice on Siggy's so I kept the one I have as I really like it.
I will have something special this Fall though when I change to re-affirm my Angel Status ;) :) And it will be special ;) :)

Now Dweezil is behaving! ;) :) WoOT!!!!

How is everyone??? ;) :spinny: SOOO glad to be done with work ;) )

    A Quick Question people....

How many of you here have the M1530 with the 9-Cell? How is it fitting in your laptop? Fits in well? any slight wobble or something like that, say 1 or 2 mm kinds? I mean not the base but the place just behind the media / start buttons?

I called Dell tech today and I asked them about this and the guy after talking with the battery section said its part of the design to let 1 or 2 mm flex or space to move so that it doesnt become too difficult to remove/fix it back... and he said it will not affect the connections of the battery with the comp or anything like that.. As long as the base is sitting well, with both ends even on the desk he said it shouldn't be a problem. In any case, he said the battery' come with a 1 yr warranty, and he told me to use it as much as I can and probably get a replacement just before the warranty ends.. LOl.. anyways... let me know people. Thanks Team :)

    I have the 9cell and 6cell...I use the 9 cell primarily (6cell when outandabout) ;) :)

Fortunately, my battery is pretty stable on the lappy ;) :) I haven't even noticed any *wobbling* so it *stands still* very well! :)

Sorry you are having troubles with yours...I think there is a thread way back on this (check 1/08) that's when I got mine....if you want to find it. or just type it in the search area ;) :)

Wowsa~! That is awesome news regarding the battery and one year warranty *lights come on even brighter, in Cin's head* LMAO..thanks for the info ;) )

    Aww thank you! ;) :) I didn't really think I should need to re-affirm :)
Dweezil is around..watch out *can you hear, his Gawd awful growl* lulz. ;) :)
I think he will be nice though! ;) :)

Soo glad you are feeling alot better ;) :) WoOT...
It can be done..I'm sure the carriage on the cloud! :) :) :)

Yes, I could do that also...it helps with my multi-tasking! ;) :) lol

Oh yes he destroyed the bathroom the other night, and we also had a *battle* over ownership of my bed...hes soo bad.

well well, I have not troubles.. or wobblings.. Again its not the "wobble" at the base or the whole laptop.. may be its the wrong word to use... but I dont know how else to say it either.. :( damn.. Its like i see it only when I try to really tweak at it kinda hard and even then the base is fine, but the place where it slots into the laptop, behind the media button panel, there is like a small tiny gap but then when I give a gentle push it sits ok... anyway, for now its fine, the laptop' stable, the base even.. I mean I sent you guys the pictures... its perfectly balanced and well seated all around.. but the 9-cell some times when I use a little bit of force to see if its sitting perfectly into the slot, I see that there is a roughly 1 mm movement.. anyways..

Did you start it off with a clean install when you got the laptop? I have been lucky thus far with my latest installtion of Windows. I know how it is, sometimes there is no explicable reason why it just goes crazy.

    haha.

So today I saw the Dell Ad in the newspaper. They make it seem like $499 for a supercool computer, when really it's just the old technology. A properly fitted computer ends up costing 2-3x that. I hate advertisements :p

Yeah, they can be so misleading sometimes. Kinda like the netbooks, which some are selling for 900 bucks but its nowhere near as powerful as even the budget line inspiron that costs less.
