Thanks! Green is by far my favorite color and Im glad there was a green Dell sig as typically green isn't too popular of a color.
-
how are you doin'?
-
Right now i've got no clue though, apparently sony doesn't have this lappy in stock right so i might have to wait a couple weeks which kinda sucks but... oh well. Yeah tomorrow's friday for real or today for you! Yay!
-
And I really love this forum
This is where I started off with my laptop purchase, the first reviews I read were from here and in fact, the driving force behind my choice of XPS M1530 as this place..
its so cool to just be here.
And the amount of things I have learnt, WOW... Amazing place.
Wish I could ask my boss for a day off every week so I could spend one whole day hanging out here and doing nothing else
And the best part if, I am no computer freak or I was never into computers by virtue of academics or whatever.. But now I find myself helping / giving advices to so many of my friends and find myself being able to solve certain technical issues which were way beyond my knowledge before. :GEEK: :GEEK: :GEEK: :GEEK: :GEEK: LOLAwesome place and awesome people here
Glad I found this place.
-
I also started off the same way as you when I was researching a new laptop and as you can see I got hooked on this forum
...and the team Dell thread is the funnest thread of them all IMO!
-
I did my researching at this forum too. It really does rule. Dell section outweighs all other sections out there!
-
A little Team Dell day would do nicely.
-
oh! it should be today! team dell day!
-
So chose one people. Or probably as wern said, it could be today, since it was today the 'idea was born'
- The 1st of August, Team Dell Day

Why not make it June 28th? That's when the Dell Team was created.

Yeahhhhhhhhhhhhh.. Page 150 for Team Dell!! Bravo!!
noticed it just now.. lol... -
What's up, Team.
Got my T8300 successfully undervolted (Multiplier of 12) to 1.0v, which I love compared to the stock (what was it, like 1.3v?). Haven't tried for under 1.0v yet though, but the 1.0 is completely stable. I also have every other multiplier undervolted by quite a bunch.
Going paintballing here soon, see you guys later! -
Hello Team, Cin, Cee, Wern, Forte and All,
I am like dead tired and    already (unlike yesterday!!) lol...Pheewww.. today was like a working day for me!!
And I guess today was like the hottest day this summer here... It was freaking humid too. Crap.. anyways..
Whats up people? this thread grows so fast..and I am too tired to browse back now..
lazy bones.. rather tired bones I guess!! lol...
Btw, do you guys remember I had this strange issue (and it seems I was the first ever human being to see this issue in Vista Ult.) with the system restore? It was that the system restore was creating restore points on a drive thats not checked. I don't know what the hell Sys Res was doing there creating restore points when the drive was unchecked / not selected and Sys Res had no business being there in the first place.
Anyways, I wrote to MS Vista Support and a guy named "Ray Zheng" has been writing back assisting me.. though he takes like 4 days to reply to my mails. Anyways, first he asked me to log on as admin and try the sys res thing and see if the issue persisted, and I wrote back saying "I am the Admin, Goddammit!!!!!!!!!!!" lol... lol...lol...But no, I didn't say like that, but I said my account had the admin privileges already and so.. yeah.
And also this Sys res thing is "creating" scheduled restore points according to the task manager.. like you know triggered at startup or 10 PM every night kinds?? So the task scheduler history says its happening, no errors, nothing of that sort, and its completed too. but when I check in the list of restore points, I cannot see any "scheduled checkpoint" or entry like that..Anyways.. So I am in touch with this 'sting' Ray Zheng... lets see how it goes.. may be next he will write to me with another suggestion / solution, hopefully.
Phheewww... I am more tired now...  -
wow, fondue kid. oh no! vista now has a mind of its own. next hing u know vista will cause laptops to explode spontaneously!
anyways, unlike fondue kid's and other places, it is rly cool here. its sort of humid though but not that much.
-
I hope all works out with this matter and, it kind of stinks
(I could use a better word...but that wouldn't be very lady or Angel like of me
Like I said *vampires* yeah.
..and I really enjoyed it when the phone rang!
-
Yeah it was a short sleep time but I slept like a log I guess..
And why didn't you get the cell ph.?didn't you find the model u want? I am big fan of Sony Ericsson
Have been having their phones for the last 6-7 yrs and I love them.. currently with the z610i..
Its nice and handy. Planning to get a newer one in a month or two
I have this thing for cell ph., mp3 players etc etc.. lol..
anyways... yeah it could always get worse.. so its all good as long as it all lasts. and we stay with itcheers...
Okie Princess, with your permission, I'd like to leave your honorable court. Will be back soon though..lol...
see ya round people.. have fun and when I come back, someone quickly tell me if they'd used this dell dock thing for a while now and how did they find it, and would they stick with it or go back to OD. Little homework for u all... LOL..Over n Out!!!!!!!

But I have this big dilemma is I would have to remove the battery. I have the 9-cell you see. So, I was asking in the cooling central thread, one of them told me to remove the battery because the base of the laptop has to be as close as possible to the cooler. Now, I am not really sure if want to do this.... removing and in case I need to carry my laptop around, then I would have to fix it back again... *not that its difficult, I am just being lazy I know*.. Anyways, so I am now looking around to see how it would work with the 9-cell. There were some videos on youtube I saw where the ventilation in the cooler is pretty good and spread air all around the base of the laptop.. so probably with the 9-cell tilt, the air would anyway hit the base and 'go backwards' probably.. and there was also this guy who was showing this cooler with the M1730 where he turned it around because the vents in the laptop did not match with the cooler and so he simply turned the cooler around.... phheewww.. so many things to think about.
My idea with the 9-cell thingy was that probably the tilt would be even more (cooler + the 9-cell tilt) and I was not really sure if it would be comfortable to open / close and to type.. have to check it out. I will, in a day or two -
Yeah, you do want it to be as close as possible to the intake vent, but the 9-cell only elevates it by one inch, the fans will still be shooting up into the intake vent, except with some cooling loss. I don't think it would be that big of a deal. Either way, you can check the temps to see how much of a difference it is between the two, so, it shouldn't be much of a problem.
-
Btw, nice picture changeThough I loved the one you had before
All' well, though.. Cheers. -
I want to be Cin''s secretary.

^ I feel bad for you. Me? I had a Tuna Sub mmmmmm... lol
So is this an introduction thread? If it is, my name's Lan and i'm from the UK. Thinking of either going with a 13" Dell or Fujitsu (respective performance models from each manufacturer). -
Welcome to the Dell Team BlitzX! We here on Dell forums are one of the most, if not the most, active team ever on NBR. Hopefully you will go with a Dell during your research into both models, after all, we are the Dell Team, and if you have any questions, we are all available to help you out when you need it! ^_^
I'd rather have a Tuna sandwich over what I had today any day. -

what is the difference between Centrino 2 "Montieva" platform and the old one in M1530
cuz i have the old one and i don't know if its a big deal that i should change it -

For one thing, Montevina is 25% smaller than the Santa Rosa (the old one in M1530, Centrino, that your referring to) which enables smaller/thinner designs. or just gives more space to add more components.
The main things is battery life/power consumption.
Processorwise, Montevina will have a Front side bus of 1066MHz not 800MHz, which isn't that big of a deal unless you multitask with many windows open.
DDR3 RAM is also supported by Montevina over the DDR2 RAM, though the most popular RAM currently is still DDR2 RAM, and DDR3 RAM, is more expensive without a doubt.
The other thing is Montevina is much more power saving as well, which is perhaps the biggest highlight as it can play a full Blu Ray disc and still have some time left over to do other things.
There is also the X4000 series of intels integrated graphics which is great and supposedly can play games much better, which is nice, but its still just an integrated card.
Other features include built in WiMax, which has much longer range that Wifi, but most services you have to pay Atand t or verizon for, so its not really worth it.
In my persional opinion, if you have a M1530, there is really no reason to upgrade to Montevina since there will be better stuff out there in the future. Sure there is the new 9600GT card, but the performance gap is not as large compared to what was prior to the M1530 in Dell's product line.
It is much better to get the M1530 because of a major factor of price. Montevina will be expensive. It's an XPS line after all, and will definitely not see any 25% discounts. Also the fact is that six months afterwards, Intel will launch a mobile version of Nehalem, which will be essentially hyperthreading for penryn processors, which will further increase performance. After that, Calpella will be arriving that will provide a much bigger performance gap that would be worthy of upgrading.
So to sum it all up, its wise to hang onto your M1530.
The only reason why you would want to wait for Dell's Montevina refresh is the mindset that your card does not have the possible vague "Die Packaging" problem, though large majority of systems have not failed and the cost of the new system as I said before, will be much higher. No one has really had any real problems with a select few people as problems have been caught early on.
If you truly value better battery life, then by all means, go ahead and get Montevina. Though remember that Calpella will be a much greater upgrade that will entice you.
The jump between Santa Rosa and Montevina is not as big as the jump from Montevina to Calpella. Hence why it would be advisable to stick with Santa Rosa and jump to Calpella when it comes out, meaning hang onto your M1530. -
Thank you very much Forte
that was realy helpfull
i will stick with my M1530 no doubt
and that computer cost me a lot of money lol around $2800 + tax + free shipping
cuz Dell canada don't have as much coupons as Dell US
i just had -$290 for buying online and -$100 all XPS
i just want to make sure all this money was worth buying it -
Also if you do decide to jump on the bandwagon, don't go with DDR3 memory yet as DDR2-800 is faster than the equivalent DDR3-800 because it's still new and the timings have not been perfected yet. So, as Forte just mentioned, you should definitely wait until Nehalem and Calpella (Q3 2009/Q1 2010) before purchasing your next notebook when there will be native support for alot of things.
"The jump between Santa Rosa and Montevina is not as big as the jump from Montevina to Calpella." - couldn't have said it better myself.
I doubt this will ever happen but I hope Dell would use Intel chipsets and install the AMD XGP connector in their next refresh. -

Anyways, a quick post team > I tried dell dock, and.... and.... well, I think I prefer ObjectDockI didn't fancy the idea of all those falling under categories like music, videos n stuff.. I mean its a really nice idea.. but not for me
also response time seemed kinda slow, though I liked the looks.. small and sweet
And anyway, I think since I spent quiet some time with this OD thing, customizing it and setting it up, I think I was just a bit lazy as well to do something all over for DD... But still I thought OD was more 'configurable' if I may say it that way... for now, its OD
and its nice. I love it
But anyway, I have kept the install file for later useone day when I get bored of OD I'll probably end up trying this.. lol..
Anyways.
