Please do not discuss anything that is not computer or Dell related in this thread. Mods have split this thread into two, one in the Off Topic section for chatting and kept this one in the Dell thread for anything thats actually on topic.

However they've merged the "Dell Team Chat" thread in the Off Topic section with the official "Random Thread". Please do not get this one locked too. Thanks.

hey everyone! was at a hotel in Niagara falls the last 4 days. it was rly, rly fun! i went on a boat ride and was absolutely drenched at the end. :D couldn't rly be on NBR as i was not able to get to a computer at all. anyways, any guesses as to when dell is going to upgrade the xps line. i think they should keep the chassis as it is and just change the internals. centrino 2 and a powerful 9M series card will be nice. releasing it anytime soon would be good too! :D

Hey Cin, Wernie, ATB, Surf, Liquid and everyone else on Team Dell,

    How are you all???

    I have a small, stupid and probably dumb Q.. :( :(

For people with the XPS M1530, when you guys open your laptop, how do you do it? Do you just hold the base down and the lift the lid only by holding onto the metal strip above the web cam? Or once its open a little, do you guys move your fingers to the top of the lid, and open by pressing against the area besides the webcam, on the black rim?

Because for some strange reason last night, I was *feeling* as if I am exerting too much pressure on the lid while opening, particularly while placing my finger on the black part, beside the webcam.. and as usual, after a while you start seeing the fingerprints n marks there.... and for me I found it a bit uncomfortable to open with my finger places just on the metal strip... phheewww... probably this is a strange Q but I am just wondering how it is with you all...

    Hey Liquid...

Yeah but I am just thinking about the durability of that part in XPS.. the metal strip... or when opening the lid by pressing against the black rim... anyways :) not a big deal I guess.. ;)

Hey anyone notice drivers killing benchmark performance? I tried the stock drivers, updated ones, inspiron drivers and still got 1500-1600 3dmark06 scores? I went to laptopvideo2go and instantly got 3.3k, and Im kinda wondering what was going on.

well, those are synthetic benchmarks so its rly only in game performance that needs to be checked but nevertheless , that is strange.

To Change the user title ;) :)
Go into your CP, Settings & Options, Then Edit Profile, then it will be under Custom User Title, and that is where you change it!... ;) :)

Hope it works, if not PM Chaz and ask him to set you up as a senior member...You also get a nice increase in PM's :) :)

I understand this, but a difference of 100%+ means there is something wrong. As for game play, UT3 played terrible until I updated my drivers. Either way I have stable drivers and am happy, I was just wondering if anyone else experienced issues like this.

Yeah, I got 3300ish 3dmark06 scores give or take a 100 marks. I think there was something wrong with the ones I got from dell as I tried the stock ones from jan 2007 the ones from jan 2008 and the inspiron ones from march or something. Either way all three drivers killed my sythetic benchmarks as well as they hurt my gaming experience. 177.89 laptopvideo2go.com and Im happy all over again.

    Welcome to the Team...~!

If you want, at the beginning of this thread post #1...started by our awesome Team Leader Scott (who we haven't seen in a long time :()...there are 5 Dell Team Logo's!! Feel free to use one of those as a signature, if you would like. :D

Bauer418 designed those for the team and they are very nice! You can represent!~ LOL.

    Look's like you have a Precision...nice :D

    Thx :)

Yeah, precision indeed....had a few probs with it and getting a replacement soon. So far those issues caused me to not be overly enthusiastic about the laptop but if these are fixed it's an amazing system. And Dell's support so far has made me trust all will work out. I've got the NBD support and 'till now it has been true next business day...except for when the screen wasn't available it was pushed back 1 day....not too shabby ;)

Ill have a look at the logo's....im free to modify them?

So what's with the new XPS being a 16" and still carrying the 8600M GT? I think a 16" laptop is too big. 15.4" was just right, almost on the large size for traveling actually. And 8600M GT... I mean really Dell, the card is decent but so old school these days. The new XPS should have at least a 9600M GT. Well I know what I am not upgrading to.

^^ I believe Arom gave me that info. But after searching through some "leak" news posts on the Studio XPS line coming out this month, it sounds like they are sporting Hybrid SLI graphics. So 8600M GT is likely out the door. Good to hear. Here is one such "leak".

    http://gizmoh.newsbeet.com/story/Dell-Studio-XPS-13-16-leak-out-due-in-November/

I still don't like the 16" form factor though... or the 16:9 screen. I don't understand the latest trend for this? I mean a laptop is a laptop, not a portable DVD player. Yes I have watched a movie or two on my laptop, as many do, but why the 16:9 screen. 99% of a laptop's function is other than watching movies. Am I wrong about this? And if you connect it to an external monitor or TV, a 16:9 screen on your laptop makes zero sense.

Here, here! :) I too have the same issues with widescreens every where. Even the LCD's on my gaming system are not widescreen. If I want to watch a movie, I will use my TV.

Myself, I love the 1420 - 14" screen and 1400x900. Perfect. Only problem, really old. And doesn't look like they keeping that one around with the refresh. Most of the 13" units are all 1280x800 max. Unless I want to drop $2000 on the new Latitude or Precision (which I don't).

So - just waiting to see what they bringing out with the refresh and the new chipset to see what new Dell I add to the family. :)

I would think they will still be around for a while as stock is still available. I am a little confused with the new Studio XPS models as there is mention of a 15" too... Are they talking about the current M1530 or a new 15" XPS? I am thinking it is just the current one but maybe not?

I haven't seen this thread in a loooong time. Well anyhow how is everyone and their dell's? My vostro 1700 is still making me all giddy inside, still plays all my games great and is one awesome multi-tasker. Been looking at the sager 9262 being as it has a 9800m and desktop CPU option, but I just dont think I live without my Dell and its great keyboard. The feel of long term use is second to none when comparing all the brands I support/own(ed)/mess with.

Lastly any word on refreshes? Ive been behind the Dell times with work and such.
