My second order got canceled too, but the third order was placed by the CS rep that same day (9/26) so my ESD is still 10/20. The reason they gave me was because some parts were on back-order, but it make no sense. The third order has the exact same part list as the second order.![]()

Any of you familiar with Digg.com or Consumerist.com? maybe this story can get digg'd or posted to consumerist.com to make this issue public.
Dell should do more than just waive the shipping charge. Maybe waiving the Bluetooth or webcam cost too.![]()

Ordered on: 9/13
XP/1GB/16GB/BT/no-cam/Black
Original ESD: 9/29
Received revised ESD (on 9/29) of: 10/6
Have "410-1883 ADOBE READER 9.0 MULTI- LANGUAGE" listed on the order, but no cancel notice (yet).
I haven't called, if it doesn't ship on 10-6, I will then.
I'd be interested to know if anybody has had their order ship (without any cancellations etc.) with ADOBE READER 9.0 on there order.
Noob says "Hi All". -
Martmann....
I would call. The manager I spoke to identified this as an issue and he
told me my order would eventually been cancelled due to the Acrobat error.
Your doing yourself a dis-service if you don't get on the horn right away and fix the issue. I ordered mine on 9/14 ESD of 9/29. The order was cancelled and the new order has an ETA of 10/22. If you wait a week, you'll be looking at 10/30 possibly the first week of Nov for delivery. -
Unless you have the patience, I would call them now. I have seen this over and over again.... Adobe 9 is an 'illegal configuration' and they will not ship. It will sit in manufacturing until someone notices and then they will cancel the order, call you and attempt to re-enter the order. At that point you get put at the end of the line, and have a three week or more wait.
So far I've seen this with orders placed on 9/12 and 9/13.
people that ordered on 9/16 and 9/18 have already received their orders, while we still wait. -
I just ordered another mini 9 this one with:
XP/512MB/8GB/BT/no-cam/Black
$27 cheaper (after WA tax) than the one I previously ordered with 1GB/16GB.
Since my original order I've decided to upgrade, I already have a 2GB stick of RAM (Crucial) and plan on buying the MyDigital 32GB SSD. (I also have a 32GB SDHC card class 4, for storage of mp3s & music DVDs).
If they ship the original order on the 6th as they say, I'll cancel the new order.
If they cancel the original order, I'll let it die, and wait for the new (cheaper) one, which has an ESD of 10/22.
I'm not really in a hurry, and life is too short to spend it on the phone with the morons at Dell, I'd have to call from work, and I'm too busy there. -
Just so you guys know, I was in the adobe fiasco. After speaking to a rep they canceled my second order, sent me a $100 coupon, and I saved another $40 shipping with ubuntu. It's not going to ship until 11/6.
Order 1: 9/13, ESD 9/29, canceled automatically 9/26
Order 2: 9/26, ESD 10/23, canceled by me because of coupon
Order 3: 9/30, ESD 11/06, -$100 coupon, -$40 ubuntu, next day air free...
At that price I can wait... -
I called dell to inquire about my order and find out what the current status is, I ordered 9/16 ESD of 10/1. The person on the phone was very nice and polite. A review of my order took place and all appeared fine. There was no indication that my order would be canceled for any reason related to Adobe since I don't have it on my configuration. An email was going to be sent to the manufacturing team to find out why my order has not moved from Pre Production. A follow up call was schedule for Friday in case I was not contacted today with an updated status and the call summary was going to be emailed to me along with a case number today.
I'm pretty sure my configuration is being held up because of the WWAN base option I selected and since no one else I know of has had the option to select this is giving me an uneasy feeling about my order. Hopefully I'll get some answers if the manufacturing team is contacted and replies to the CSR that helped me. -
-
Well I just got a automated call from purolator telling me my laptop should be here tomorrow, 1 day early is cool for me.
Sucks that so many are having problems. -
-
Hi aglowlight,
I was wondering how you were able to order the "AT&T WWAN" option. I've been checking out the web configuator since I ordered on 9/13, and I've never seen the option.
Did you order by phone, or 3rd party?
TIA -
-
-
-
Please post if you get it with WWAN because I was told there was no way I could get it. If you do, I'll be cancelling my order or at least raising a fair amount of hell over it. -
I was checking out the drivers on the Dell support site for the mini 9 and found that there were two files (1 application, 1 driver)for internal WWAN card. This is very interesting and hopefully an indication that the WWAN card is coming and maybe soon.

Just called and intercepted my delayed order before it was cancelled. Got next day shipping-free quilted bag and $50 off-not as good as other posters but sumthin

Ordered 9/6
1GB/4GB/Ubuntu
ESD: October 13.
In Production since 9/8
Still anxiously waiting...... -
please check your order confirmation email, and see what version of Adobe Acrobat was on the order.... 9.0 or 8.1? -
aglowlight,
Did you noticed they spelled it "Inspiorn mini 9" on the top right of your screen cap?
Hope that's the only mistake they made. Hope you get it soon. -
What the heck!!! I sent the Dell rep in charge of my case an email asking if I could receive maybe an extra charger or a discount as compensation for the delays caused by them and he replied saying that since this was a widespread problem that affected many purchasers of the Dell Mini 9, which was a new system, he could not offer any compensation. He said that with new systems it is not uncommon to have delays of a few weeks. He even said that I am free to cancel the order if I am not satisfied by the delay.
-
I hope I get it soon too. Hopefully Dell will email me or call me by Friday and give me an update. -
I've gotten an update and my new ESD is now 10/8 with EDD of 10/13. I'll take a 1 week delay if it gets me closer to my mini. The good news is still no cancellation.
-
It's not what you ask for it's how you ask. My rep stated that there was a problem with a piece of software I selected. Once I informed him that not only did I not select the wrong version of acrobat, but I didn't have any other option for other versions, or any way of removing it from the order he realized what a crazy mistake it was on their part. THEN, being put to the back of the line.... It's probably better to talk to him over the phone.

Question: Has anyone who had to reorder because of the Acrobat debacle had their Mini move from build to boxing? Seems like the early orders that didn't get cancelled spent about 4 days in build and 4 days in boxing before shipping. Just trying to determine if that will hold true for the supposedly "expedited" orders. I doubt it...
-
The Adobe line on my order reads "Adobe 8.1 English", but has an item number that I think is the same for Adobe 9.0: 410-1883. The agents have assured me my order will not be cancelled. Ordered 9/12 with estimated delivery 0f 9/29. I just received an email indicating a minimum 5 business day delay. Any thoughts?
-
The first re-order was on Friday morning, the 26th. It sat in Build for 5 days before they canceled it. Of course they claimed a problem with that order so it would never have made boxing anyway. Now they re-ordered Tuesday night. It's only been a couple days but it's still in "Build" even though it's supposed to have been expedited.
I found a secret picture taken of the manager in charge of expediting orders....
-
hmmm... that's a tough one. I ordered on 9/12 and mine was canceled. Many others around that time frame also had the issue.
The part number may hold you up even though the text states 8.1 -
Obsidian Black / XP / 1GB RAM / 16GB SSD / 1.3MP Webcam
ordered: 9/11/08
First ESD: 9/26/08
Second ESD: 10/3/08
***???
After reading this forum, I realized that I had Adobe 9.0 on my specs. After numerous irate phone calls with clueless "customer care" reps, I was able to get through to an "Executive Support Resolver - Global Escalation Management Team member."
Yesterday, she "assured" me that the Adobe wouldn't be an issue and that my order would be expedited, upgraded my shipping to overnight and said that it should ship "on or before 10/3/08" (I'm sure we've all heard that before). I had 3 different people give me 3 different reasons for the delay - first it was because the processor was backordered, then it was the battery was backordered and finally, the LCD screen was backordered.
Now, every time I call in to the automated line or check "my account" online, it shows it being in production/build stage - for a unit that is supposed to ship by tomorrow!
I asked them about the issue of people ordering the same exact product after I did and already having their units when I was told that those customers must have ordered it with a different processor. Really? Who do they think that they are fooling.
I'm not sure what to do now - should I wait to see if it does actually ship tomorrow or go ahead and cancel it? I am still very concerned with the Adobe issue. -
The Dell rep that I spoke with was out of the office all day, so my mini 9 order that I intercepted from being automatically cancelled before my 1st delayed esd of 10/06 because of Adobe 9,was just input into their system with an ESD of 10/24.
Original order date 9/14-ESD 10/24, not bad shipping times!! lol
-
Called Dell and cancelled my order. Ordered an Asus EEE PC 1000H through Costco with a ship date of Oct. 6th. Dell has back-ordered my last 3 laptops, 1520 for a month,XPS1330 for 6 weeks, and now this Mini 9 till the end of October-with an original ESD of 9/29. Great company!!
Good luck to all who had Adobe Reader 9 on their order, maybe my cancellation will help someone who is still back-ordered -
Okay, today was supposed to be the expedited ship day. Guess what? It has been delayed again. New ESD is now 10/09/08 (yeah, right). I have a call in to the "executive support resolver" that was assuring me that it would ship today. It's still in the "build" stage, it's still listed as having Adobe 9.0 and I'm still waiting...... and waiting..... and waiting..... while others who've ordered after me are surfing with theirs.
I'll wait to see if the escalation rep returns my call before I cancel this order or just start throwing a hissy fit. Now I'm wondering what I do with the accessories I ordered that are already past the 21 day return window....
-
My order was delayed again (for the 3rd time)...
How do I get my call escalated to "Executive Support?" I was told my call couldn't be escalated any further the last time I called front-line customer service.
Due to unforeseen circumstance....

I know in my earlier post I stated I was giving up on chasing Dell around about the Adobe 9.0 issue but this morning I had some free time at so I thought I would try calling one more time. This time I got attitude from the Dell Customer Service guy, "Phil" which can't be his name his parents gave him, who told me that he saw that I've called several times about the issue, that there was nothing in the record that indicates my order will be canceled because of Adobe Reader 9.0. This is where it gets better - Phil then told me that I should just wait until my ESD of 10/06 to see if Dell cancels my order or I could call the Order Modification Department cancel the order myself, make the change to Adobe Reader 8.1, get in the back of the line, possibly lose my discount or I could just cancel the order and go away. Phil then offered to come by my house and kick my puppy. I told Phil that wouldn't be necessary since I didn't own a puppy but that I appreciated his offer to make my life even more miserable. Ok, the part about the puppy isn't true but everything else is.
If I didn't have a meeting I needed to get to I would have argued with him some more. So, basically I've read here and other boards (mydellmini) that people have had their orders canceled because of Adobe 9.0 but I'm the bad guy for calling Dell too many times to alert them of this potential problem? Ahh, I could feel the love from customer service -- even half way around the world.
Order Date: 09/14/2008.
Original ESD: 09/29/2008
Revised ESD: 10/06/2008
White/1GB RAM/16GBSSD/No BT/1.3 Camera/XP/Adobe 9.0
Current Stage: Build -
At least yours is in boxing. Mine is stuck in terminal "build" mode. Now I'm being told that its because of a back order on the LCD, the batteries and the processor. However, no one can seem to explain why those of you that ordered after me (9/11) already have your your mini and I don't. *sigh*
I got escalated to "executive support" by sending a scathing email through their "unresolved issues" link that is very tiny & at the very bottom of their webpage. -
Anyone considering the
Acer Aspire One or the Asus EEE?
I have a Mini 9 on order but its' not moved.... -
I ordered a Lenovo S10 on Wednesday, and it shipped on Thursday ... scheduled for delivery next Monday ... and it ended up costing $75 less than the mini 9 ...
Y'all have fun fighting this battle ... I'm outta here ...
PS... Now I'm getting sales calls from Dell from 877-511-4552 several time a day ... sheesh ... -
Once you do get the S10 it would be great if you could post a mini review on it? and def give some info on the heat output.

Just got off the phone with a very pleasant and understanding Sales rep. I told her the situation with my order and she agreed honor a second order for a Dell Mini with the exact same price as my original order and threw in free overnight shipping. So, I currently have two orders pending and it is now a race to see which one is shipped first. The only thing she couldn't do is expedite order #2 --- which from what sounds like isn't much of an expedite process - See Snail picture posted earlier.
I ordered the Dell Mini for my girlfriend who just started graduate school and is finding carrying her Dell 710M, battery adapter & books too heavy. Also, she didn't like the Acer Aspire One mouse pad layout and liked the look of the Dell. She wanted the white cover but it appears that black orders are being shipped faster than white orders. So, my second order is black. If they both ship on the same day I might just keep the second order for myself -- although I must say I love my Dell XPS M1210 and weight isn't a problem for me.
Order #1: White/1GB RAM/16GB SSD/1.3 Camera/No BT/Adobe 9.0

ESD: 10/27/2008 -
Sorry this all happened to you...
Well, look's like you got yourself a nice netbook, and saving more money on it then you did w/your I9 & it's already been shipped.
So, hopefully your somewhat bad experience with the I9, will turn out positive with your new Lenovo S10~
Also, if Dell calls you again ~ tell them you are putting them on *notice* that you don't want to receive any more sales/solicitation calls again
Good luck to you!
Cin
Well, you now have 2 I9's on the way to you! And, I would hope that Order #2 would ship before the ESD
Look's like Order #1 will be shipped on Monday (hopefully)
It's nice you got the shipping manner expedited!

Without any explanation my Dell Mini order with Adobe 9.0 was pushed back another week. When I called and asked why there was a delay Customer Service could not tell me exactly why it was delayed. When I asked if the delay had anything to do with Adobe 9.0, Customer Service assured me the delay had nothing to do with Adobe 9.0. Which I found very odd since CS could not tell me exactly why the order was delayed again but they knew it was not because of Adobe 9.0.
Order #1: White/1GB RAM/16GB SSD/1.3 Camera/No BT/Adobe 9.0

Has anyone that had an order canceled and re-entered due to Acrobat had the new order enter boxing stage or even ship yet?
My supposed 'expedited' order has been in build for a week now. I knew expedited didn't mean anything different would happen.
This is stupid. If I wasn't getting such a great discount due to the screw ups, I would just cancel the order.
-
My order has been delayed for the second time. They even ask me if I want to delay it again before they cancel it(because of the trade something commission).
I got one instant saving of $65 the 12 of September. I got the the full configuration with XP, 16GB, 1 GB BlueTooth, Webcam, black.
Without tax and shipment, the total is $469. Which still seems to be better than what they offer today(same price but no webcam).
My order may be shipped the 13 of October (previously 10/6 (previously 09/29)).
I wonder if the issue on the shipment is not related with this instant saving of $65 that last for such a short time or because the webcam is not an option anymore(No Camera Option !!!!!!)
Whatever, I don't give up. I bought this net book as a toy and if I have it for Christmas it will be great.
-
How do you cancel and order? I've been tryingt cancel my Mini 9 order. Dell customer service totally sucks and all this reorder garbage is too much.
I can't seem to get them to cancel my order. I keep getting transferred and disconnected. -
Honestly, I haven't seen a shipment post in a while. I'm uber screwed with an ESD of 11/6....
