    Thought you guys should know...

I canceled via email after I received an automated email from Dell informing me of the delay (which they never did when they canceled the first order). That email gave me the option to cancel my order, so I did this weekend.

Well today, the guy who had started keeping tabs on my order last week, he left a voicemail saying that he saw my order was canceled and he thought that the Dell team probably canceled my order because it has been delayed so long and they were still waiting for the i7...

He also said he had the ability to undo the canceled order if I wanted (which is why he called...he seems to be a higher level manager within customer support). Interesting new piece of info...didn't know that they could do this. He still didn't offer any incentive (not like I would have taken it...I love this Envy waaaaaay more than I thought I would). :D

I just find it weird how he claims it's the i7 still, but everyone else is being told all sorts of other parts and NOT the i7.

I think dell just makes up stuff. I think every single component has beeen mentioned in this forum as having a shortage from the base, HDD, display, bluray, and processor. What else can be out of stock. At this rate, the only thing dell will have a shortage of is customers.

Wish you would of stayed in the race, you never canceled and reordered when I did, wanted to see if it would have eventually shipped :p. That’s the same BS they told me, I wouldn’t have any of it, that’s when I raised hell to our purchasing program manager from our company of this issue and he found that there was something wrong with the ordering system. Recreated... still waiting to see what happens.

On my 5th try calling I asked what part was delayed so that I could cancel my re-order and try again with something else. The woman put me on hold for 15 minutes and came back to tell me that the "backlit" was back-ordered.

I ordered on 11/8 with an EDD of 12/2.

Mine was also stuck in pre-production hell. Order date 11/6/09. Just moved to build stage this morning. I did call and gripe yesterday and was told that they would email the build team and that it should move into production within 48 hours, but I tend to believe that would have happened anyway and the rep was just telling me what I wanted to hear. Now I just have to follow that power supply issue on the owners thread. It's like this is one never ending problem. Replace one issue with another issue. I'm so glad I found this forum though. Imagine the frustration of customers that don't know about these issues because they don't know about the forums. For you guys in the US that have received your order. How long did it take from when you first noticed it enter the build stage to when it actually shipped out? Also, where do they ship from so I can estimate delivery time?

    Well ... some progress ... maybe ;)

    Here are my updates:

If I go to "My Account" on Dell.com it states: In Production

If I click on the Dell Purchase ID it states: In Production

Everything else is the same ...

I will add, I actually canceled the Nov 6th order and reordered Nov 11. I decided to spend the extra bucks and go for the BluRay reader. With that being said, my ordered status' were just like my Nov 6th order and have stayed that way until today. See my sig for system details.

I "few" pages back I think someone made reference to part shortages until November 24th (At least for the US). Perhaps it is just coincidental that my order status' have changed on the 24th ... or maybe their was some truth to that and my order is finally moving in the queue ... either way ... it is nice it "appears" to be moving ...

    Order Date: 10/20/09 EDD: 11/16/09
    Canceled: 11/10/09
    Order Date: 11/10/09 EDD: 12/4/09
    Canceled: 11/18/09
    Order Date: 11/18/09 Edd: 12/14/09

As of yesterday I got two phone calls (I've got like 3 people calling me every couple of days with information now) to notify me the i7 processer is out of stock. They informed me there is a 10 day lead time with Intel, meaning Intel will resupply them within 10 days. The first Dell employee asked me if I would need it by Christmas (that freaked me out!). The second employee (my primary contact) told me that my date shouldn't change at all.

My order status on (800) 283-2210 (Option 3, 2, 1, 1) said "Pre-production" yesterday. Which is all any of my systems ever said. Today it finally says it is in the "Build" stage. This is the farthest my order has ever gotten so I'm pretty excited.

They still claim I should have it within two weeks of last Friday.

So your system has only just now made it to the Build stage, over a month after your original order?

Yeah, I'm at the end of it. If I hadn't started getting them to call me with updates I probably would have walked. It showed that at least someone cared enough to try and keep me as a customer. If someone's willing to "try", I'm willing to give them some patience.

But another delay will get HP or Asus a new customer...

according to the preliminary ship thing it says from order processing to ship date is 15 days. take that as it is, other laptops are 8 days, id take that as it is since nothing else seems reliable so why should that lol.

Good to see everyone else is in the build stage as well. perhaps theyre rolling again. The power adapter thing isnt cool, figures the laptop would go in the build stage right when they find that out.

Understandably so. I was on the verge of cancelling my order and getting an HP Envy from Best Buy, and may still do so if I run into any more hiccups. I'm already getting very concerned about the power adapter issues folks are seeing, although I may lucky in that regard since I will not be gaming.

I hope your machine zips through the build process :)

Yeah, the power supply thing is a bit crappy to be finding out about now. I need to order a second one anyways (I leave one at work all the time), so I'll probably order a 130w Slim to carry around and play games with.

    N3verm0re,
If Best Buy had any Envy 15's near me I probably would have grabbed one! I think I'd be much angrier if I wasn't used to this sort of treatment from Apple. After using them for so many years I'm just used to the BS.

I'm still in pre-production. Have been since the 10th. Oddly I did get the $35 gift certificate from Dell that some drone gave me for my order being delayed. Thought it wasn't coming til I received the laptop.

Do you happen to know which 130W adapter works with the Studio XPS 16? I'll probably wind up buying one myself, but I'm not really well versed on which are compatible and where I can order one.

    Thanks in advance!

    Ordered: 11/11
    Original EDD: 12/10
Revised EDD: 11/26 (This is impossible because of Thanksgiving)

When I look online it says shipped with no tracking number.
When I call one of the numbers it says it "was shipped" on 11/25 and will arrive on or before 11/26. To bad I'm away for the weekend so I wont see the computer if it actually ships until Monday evening when my husband brings it home from his office.

Also as of this morning they still haven't charged the credit card which makes me more suspicious about the order status I see online and get on the phone.

Na, you’re not bursting the bubble. if that’s the case, most companies have 1 or more days in the week for shipping internally, I also ordered in the US, and I live in Texas, so my order is more than likely coming from Texas or another state. And I have next day shipping.

We’ll see what happens. The company I work for gets computers so fast from Dell, it’s not funny. Faster than the historical "Boxing" Time on this forum.

Man, I dunno what to do. I can now get the HP Quad Dv6T cheaper and quicker than my 1.5 old order on my Dell WITH the 820 instead of the 720. The only thing I won't have is the 1080p monitor, which I really want.

i saw that where ya get 400 off? its like 920$ and comes with blue ray, 500gb, i7 etc. Ive had hp's for ever, i liked them a lot, they also have great support. But the screen resolution was a deal breaker for me, backlit keys i can see being really nice as i dont think the dv6 has them. Envy's just to expensive for me as well.

I will admit it did have me thinking for a while there heh.

I can deal with no backlit keys, and even the screen resolution. My concern is am I limited to the lower resolution if I hook up to a TV/external monitor over HDMI?

I was kind of curious about those that are in production as of today vs those still in the pre-production on the different configurations. It was hard to backtrack but looks like those that had 500gb harddrive orderrs where still in pre-production but i may be wrong.

ill post specs again for comparison if that helps others out
    build stage as of 11/24
    i7 720qm, 4gb ram, 250gb hd, dvd/cd drive, w-led screen, glossy black case

edit: nevermind as of pwilliams post

ok, when i call, the lady tells me my order "is being assembled". on the internet it says in production. how are other people getting more stage information such as, "boxing",

the only stages i can see being available are:
    order recieved
    order processing
    work in progress
    in production
    shipped
    cancelled

also my order has been in the "is being assembled" since yesterday morning, is this a bad sign? does "is being assembled" include boxing ?!?!?

also how are people getting reps?, i ordered on the internet, do i have a rep ? : )

Original order was 10-18 been canceled twice. I am in no hurry for it, just want it to be a solid unit. If they don't fix the current power issues people are complaining about I will send it back.

I haven't been keeping up with this thread but this is what has been going on with my order.

Ordered the first time on OCT 9th. The order was then canceled and remade on November 6th with an EDD of December 7th.

I wrote to dell complaining that it is completely rediculous that I have to wait 2 months since ordering to receive the laptop. the dell rep assured me in various emails that I would receive it way before then and it is in priority status or some such.

yesterday the canceled order was removed from my account so I only see the current one. It is still listed as in production... Still has time to get to me by the official EDD of dec 7th but seems like I was lied to by the rep about any sort of fast method. If it isn't here by the 7th I may have to cancel.

Pretty poor service here. Nothing was offered, I feel pretty dirty for sticking with Dell actually. I am in Canada btw.

The only difference between our two orders is you have the rgb led screen vs 1080p wled, 6gb vs 4gb ram and 500gb vs 250gb hd

I hope for ya it changes to in production for ya tonight. its weird that one number says shipped it never did for me. Is that new? It seems when it goes in production all the pages etc sync to in production.

It does seem they only update theyre system at like midnight. so perhaps ya just missed that update and maybe tonight.

    Abacazoom,

First, try calling (800)283-2210. Select option 3, then 2, then 1, then 1. Even if it's not a business order, it's still fine. Enter your Order Number and you should get a bit more detailed info.

As for the Rep, I ordered online as well. After a number of calls to Customer Care, a number of transfers, etc. I finally found someone who wanted to get me the info, was willing to give me his number to call him, etc. Since then I have used him for any info, and it seems pretty accurate. I haven't let that stop me from calling Order Modifications and other departments from time to time to get info. But anything any of the others have told me always corresponds with what my Rep tells me. That's all.

Definitely new. It wasn't there when I checked about 2 hours ago, but it was when I checked to post that update.

I just hope that such an unrealistic shipping date isn't implying a different problem elsewhere. I might check again later this afternoon, but for me it's still a waiting game.

Maybe I'll take this time to order a 130w power supply. Unless the folks in the owner's thread figured out a solution to the power consumption problem..

I think the systems used are different in different countries. I'm in the UK and mine spent about 10 days in production and then switched to shipped and I now have a tracking number which says it's left the factory in China and it should arrive with me by the end of the week.

The only Statuses I ever saw were

    Pre-production
    Production
    Shipped

For you guys in the US that have received your order.

How long did it take from when you first noticed it enter the build stage to when it actually shipped out?

Also, where do they ship from so I can estimate delivery time?

So somethings going on as its changed a little bit. some people mentioned that the status on the phones etc update a midnight. it seemed to do that last night. so might have to wait til then maybe

I dunno about the power cord thing just yet, ill probably hold off til someone confirms a 130w will fix the problem. want to make sure its the power supply, and not the power management settings etc between unplugged and plugged.
