I have had mine for two weeks now. I can attest to the sense that it's an amazing computer. Not one problem with it so far, knock on wood.

The keyboard is solid, the screen is great. The fans will likely filter all the dust in the room - LOL...

Seriously, it's a great PC laptop. Probably the best Dell and the best PC I have ever bought. I am not sure that I like it better than my MAC systems though, it's a breast. Big and heavy. Really heavy.

 

Seems like everyone has got it now as this thread has died down in activity.

i called dell on the 24 of december asked why there isn't any bluray
they told me that bluray isn't available no more

called again they said they can send a bluray burner when they come avaiable?
so i get a computer with less then i order at least i will get a blu ray later

Sounds like yours had the same problem mine did. Mine lasted for 15 min then died. It wouldn't do anything they came and replaced the motherboard and processor and it was still dead. So they ordered me another one. Order was placed on the 30th phone status says it should ship the 7th but I wont get it till the 12th then since I am not there.

 

Does anybody know if they are going to offer the blu-ray burner again?

 

Ya, soon as they can dump all the other units nobody wants.
Everyone wants blu-ray, and why not? I'm happy with mine.
don't see any reason why it would be discontinued.
Why not call or chat with sales and ask?

 

I've had mine for a week and a half, and so far, so good. It's not perfect... but it's good enough for me. The right metal hinge sort of sticks out just barely from the black of the screen, but it's not noticable unless you run your finger over it. The hinge on the other side is flush with the reset of the screen. The right hinge creaks a little when I close the lid... On my keyboard, the right "Ctrl" button doesn't glow quite as brightly as the rest of the keyboard, but I'm being too picky. I'm glad I bought this machine over others I was considering. Haven't had a chance to try out the blu-ray, though (I don't have any blu-ray discs, but I'll buy movies on blu-ray in the future now that I can play them). Shipped on time, no order problems whatsoever. I hope anyone who's still waiting gets theirs deliverd in a timely manner.

Still don't have mine yet. My original order was placed on December 29th 2009, They order was cancelled twice already and reissued for unknown reasons. No estimated delivery date. No information. No clues. *sigh

Hope i get it soon though. Anyone else have serious color problems with their 1640/45's I have the 1640 right now and I find the RGB LED to be overly blue and no amount of color correction has solved the problem. Hopefully this new one will have a better panel.

I called in since mine is still showing "In Production", was told they are waiting on a part and they have no EDD. They upgraded me to "Air" shipping though.

I'm just getting the regular WLED (not RGBLED), so I'm not sure what new part is holding up my order. Whatever it is, I'm hoping it comes in soon.

Called them again, after being transferred around to 3 different people, the last being a 'resolution specialist' I was told that the 15.6" WLED LCD (not RGBLED) is currently out of stock and they don't know the date when my laptop will be built. I tried to get the last guy to transfer me to the order modification department so I could see if I could change the part to something that I would get faster (perhaps the RGBLED as those peoples orders seem to be coming through now?), but just got transferred to some Dell Corporate salesmen's voicemail (it's a corporate order through Dell Canada that I placed).

My current Dell Laptop (a full loaded Inspiron 9400 aka E1705) that's 3 years old is having major issues so I do need something new soon. The Envy or the new Asus is looking a bit tempting.

My spare battery shipped as a separate order and already arrived (it was on for $60, but the sales rep put it on a different order for $220, so the other order that's delayed for the actual laptop shows a lower $ value than it should be)... so that will likely make for a terrible headache if I try to cancel (though they aren't leaving me with many options).

Anyone have any ideas?

 

I ordered the Studio XPS 1645 on 3 Feb. EDD was 19 Feb. Soon changed to1 Mar, then to 8 Mar. Currently shows shipped except no tracking info and when I click on the order number it shows In Production. Still waiting. If it weren't for the kick butt reviews on this laptop I would cancel the order. Just list me as another hostage. It will really be irritating if it turns out that this laptop is being built up the street about 60 miles at the dell facility.

This might seem like a stupid question, but does anyone know why dell doesn't remove the option from their sight when stocks of a particular item like the WLED based displays are running low?

Well Dell have lied to me again.

First it was too be deleivered on the 12-Feb, then it was waiting for RGBLed, which would arrive on the 12th, then they told me again that it would arrive on the 12th, then the 1st March, then the 5th.....

Website has been saying for last week and a bit, "Manufacturing Build Complete", I rang and Dell confirmed that it was built, but there were shipping issues and they would call me back withing two days.

Well two days later got a call from some company saying it will be delivered on Monday.

They rang me again, not Dell this other company on behalf of Dell, saying that it would not be delivered, as it is still waiting for parts. At 18:30 on a Friday night, so there no one to call.

45 days and counting for a 1645......

Any one in Australia have any decent contact numbers for Dell?

once it's shipped ...it may take another day before the tracking info appears online...but you could call them as soon as it has shipped and they will provide it prior to that cheers!!!
