Thund3rball I dont know, I'm guessing
-
So what does all that new information tell us?
Sorry, I don't know too much about the technical details. I'm most interested in the screen and the wireless capabilities if anyone cares to explain. -
Wireless is mini-PCIe form factor so aftermarket could support 802.11n if not installed as shipped... -
Any idea if it'll be matte screen?
-
I read somewhere it will be glossy, 1280*800.
-
Why the @)($*#$ would they make a netbook screen glossy?! I swear, these screens are the bane of my purchasing existence.
-
i dont like the size of 12 inch, the screen and keyboard is too small for most adults, 13" is more bearable
-
-
I just want to see the I12 when released, and hopefully by then the I9 will have all the order issues situated!
Cin -
For sure, 100% -
up and page down buttons. But, the important keys you use to type with...
are full-sized.
I am very disappointed to hear they will be going with a non-LED backlit
screen. I can understand the cost reasons. -

The yet to be released I1410 looks like it will be equipped w/CCFL display as well... -
I wonder if Dell just can't source reasonably priced 12" LED screens at the moment. I expect LEDs will appear, but perhaps not for a while.
Since these machines are designed to be 'mobile' and used in many different places, I'd like to see a matt screen option. -
You don't think they'll launch all these new XPS' and Inspirons' in November do you?
-
The new XPS models better come out next month or else Dell is going to have a terrible year.
-

That's the price a nice full sized notebook!
I thought around $600 ???
Cin -
The battery life is not too bad for a 3 cell and with a 6 cell coming that should certainly improve things a bit. Looks nice; a bigger brother for the Mini basically.
-
-
Well, I guess we wait for further info
Your linky indicated a possibility of other colors...OH prey tell, and please...Dell!
Aaah yes I see!
Cin -
They could be using an older exchange rate as the dollar has taken off within the last month.

all laptops cost more in australia than anywhere else, also our dollar is currently very low against both the yen and the US dollar -
Yes Yes Yes.....A Maximum of 1 Gig of RAM!.....NO NO NO

It's good info, for sure!Looks like it's all gonna fall into place fairly soon!

Let's do a summary here and see the pros and cons:
PROS:
1. First 12,1" LCD netbook
For who needs a bigger screen than the usual netbook this is a nice option.
2. Very thin and light
It does not beat the netbook slimness champion (Asus S101) but it is very thin considering the 12,1" category.
3. Different Atom CPU with lower TDP.
Consumes less than Atom N270 but same speed here
CONS:
1. 1GB max memory size
This is because this particular Atom CPU was designed for MID devices and the chipset used has a 1GB RAM limit.Very bad considering the Vista OS.Better go for XP.
2. Weak battery life with 3 cell battery
The 6 cell battery won't fit the netbook case.I hate notebooks that seem "pregnant" because of battery especially in the light and thin category.
3. HDD with 5mm height and 4200rpm rotation speed
This makes upgrades much more difficult
4. LCD not LED
5. Not upgrade friendly.
You have to open the whole case to reach the components -
First hands on review of the Mini 12:

I guess I would really have to see the 12 in person to see if I like it.
Looking at it compared to the mini 9, I'm not sure I would prefer this over the 9. The reason I got the 9 is the size, and the 12 just looks too big when comparing them!
-
...I think we are going to see several more Brand Netbooks releases before 1/09

Another article by APC with some pricing and options info on the Mini 12:
http://apcmag.com/dell_unveils_12_inch_vista_netbook_for_999.htm -
Thanks again, for the linky!!!Someone pointed out earlier that this may be Australian pricing??
As, $999 for a netbook is far too much to pay!!! And, also to much to pay anywhere for a Netbook (just my opinion..whereas I could get a new lappy for that price)
Cin -
The size comparison photos above show a massive difference in size; I suppose I shouldn't be surprised but I am.
-
Jayayess1190 Waiting on Intel Cannonlake
-
So far i'm not that impressed with the 12.
-
Maybe its just me or I have been lucky with the type of LED screens but the difference between old-school CCFL and LED is night and day... -
Its not just the screen which I could get over. Its the the fact that the max memory is 1gb. I wouldn't even want xp with 1gb.
-
% sure its the aussie pricing. even the first line of the second apc link mentions 'australia's most expensive netbook'.
$999 is also too much for this even here in aus in my opinion anyway, especially for a 1G and running Vista - i'd be dubious about running XP on this as well. if it had a better chipset with upgradeable memory then it worth taking another look at.
will be interesting to see how the mini 12 fares -
Now to wait if anyone else has a response to the 12. I am particularly interested in the rumored ARM based netbooks.
-
I cant wait to see, either! Not much we can do til it's release, of course!

Since the starting price for an XPS1330 is $949US, I can't see $999 being right for the 12!!
But the restrictions, like the 1gig of RAM, may stop potential 1330 owners from buying a 12 instead. -
Engadget lists starting price at under $600
