    Mine is still the same.

    Order Date: 04/07/2007
Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 23/07/2007
    Pre-Production as of 06/07/2007

I'll be calling my Sales Rep if my date changes. What am i saying, by the looks of things it will change but dont know when. :-(

I'm guessing they change them 2 days before the EDD if its still in pre-production. While I understand that it's a new laptop and therefore it will take a little longer to get production up to speed, I am a little annoyed that they have underestimated the popularity of it. From the way they announced this model with a big fanfare they must have expected a deluge of orders, so why didn't they have enough parts in stock to cope with the initial 'must have' rush. Having to wait another month is frustrating.

It doesn't look good for those of us with earlier than the revised ship dates of others. If we get ours on time then that would be pretty unfair on those who ordered before us. Dell seems to really have messed up this time

What is annoying is that the system waits until 2 working days before EDD before rescheduling. Dell must have known last week, if not the week before, that the EDDs were not feasible.

And the online store M1330 configuration page still says:

Perhaps they should change the weeks to months.

I'm not impressed by the management of this roll-out and wait with interest to see what revised date I get tomorrow.

So as soon as i'm updated to in production the EDD is going the rise? MEH!!!

3 weeks was long enough but another 1, 2 ... its getting really annoying.

Sorry to hear all this guys but we all guessed it was coming.

The screen delay is still to blame (worldwide glass shortage to be exact) I have also been led to believe that this shortage is not exclusive to the M1330 but affecting production across the entire range & giving Dell a considerable headache.

Probably global warming has put a lot of beaches out of reach.

But seriously - reading the article about how Dell don't stock the components but rely on the suppliers to provide them just-in-time I can see how this might happen. I wonder what technically is different in making a LED backlit display. I would have thought the LCD was the tricky part (yield etc.) and the backlight relatively easy to change. So how come all the LCD manufacturers didn't quickly switch to LED backlights? (I wouldn't be surprised if they aren't easier and cheaper to make anyway).

Instead we saw Sony and Apple steal a march on their arrivals by being far earlier to market with LED backlights. I suppose they signed some kind of exclusive deal to take all the production from the initial supplier(s) for some period of time. Now suddenly lots of manufacturers are switching to LED backlights and it seems the suppliers may not be able to keep up. Maybe Dell are being outbid for the screens.

OK. So Dell are now kindly asking what they can do to rectify their poor behaviour over the shipping date (19th Jul > 20th Aug) and stop me cancelling.

So far they've offered 28th Jul as a shipping date and £100 off. Which is still a pretty laughable offer for me.

Anyone have any experience here? Can I hold out for half-price, their first-born?

How are they asking, did they phone you or you phoned them? I doubt you can get half price tbh, but can always try for more and maybe ask them to throw in some freebies ie extended waranty.

I guess mine is also going to be delayed by another month, however, i will be asking them to extend my standard 1yr to 4 yrs warranty otherwise i'll cancel it. I was really looking forward to getting my laptop next monday but doubt i will. :(

They phoned me. In a good position since they're pretty much have to going to give me anything to keep the order alive. See how committed they really are.

Sounds like a plan. If you do get bounced, sounds like the 28th is a good date to hammer for. Free delivery + £100 off also seems achieveable :)

Just don't let them give you a printer ;-)

My estimated delivery date hasn't changed, its still set for this Friday. but I'm guessing that'll change tommorow as it is still in preproduction.

do you think it is likely that small business orders will take priority, its my last glimmer of hope.

I need this computer for my work (my old laptop died a few weeks ago) and every day I wait I can lose money...

They cant give priority to something they cant actually build which it would seem is going to be the case until the end of this month.

well if dell have offered 28th as a shipping date then you'd think theyll be able to start making them maybe by the end of this week/early next week right?
they wouldnt offer a revised date if they couldnt meet it, because then theyd have to give out more and more discounts

well they offered £100 for a revision of their first 'estimated' delivery date, so why shouldn't they if they did it again? its all about making the customer happy and stopping them cancelling the order.

    And probably rightly so... :)

My order hasn't changed since, it's as stale as 2 months old bread... it just doesn't move.

    Ordered: 6th July
    Pre-Production: 7th July
    Estimated Delivery Date: 1st August

If this gets extended a week or two further, I'd be very annoyed and will also decide to cancel, unless they bribe me to keep it. I'm disappointed in the way Dell is handling this situation, regardless of the "worldwide" screen shortages - I was told this by the rep too!

I checked the order status now I am the 2 days before EDD and see (i) It now says Pre-Production as of 18th July (used to be 6th July so + 12 days)) and (ii) the EDD is now 17th August (used to 20th July so + 28 days).

So I'm rapidly losing confidence that I will see this computer by the end of August, never mind end of July.

Changing of the pre-production date seems to be an attempt to hide the delay, although the original order date (3rd July) still remains.

Exactly my thoughts John. I got delayed 3 days before ETA. You can give Dell a call and see what you can receive in return; they promised me about a certain compensation.. I'll be called about this later today and let you know what the outcome is :)

I've just looked at the Dell order site and see that Dell have changed the wording on the M1330 customisation page.

Yesterday that was two weeks, so they are moving closer to bein honest.

oops! I didnt realise this thread existed till now, lets just say im in the same boat as John Ratsey, and not happy to be in said boat...

I ordered the same day as John, and it would appear we are being screwed over identically

John did they lie to you also about your unit already going into pre-production? They rang me last Thursday to say it had gone into pre-production, then again on Monday this week to tell me it had gone into pre-production. All ******* lies

If I hear nothing by next Monday I will threaten to just cancel using 5.5 in their terms and conditions unless they do something worth making me wait via discount or such.

I'm in exactly the same boat, ordered on the 3rd, expecting delivery friday, delayed till the 17th of August. I'm going to give them a ring later on today, I have to have my laptop by the end of July or I'm cancelling, what is my position? Can I? I ordered through small business

Well the thing about pre-production is....it's not production. It's the stage where they are waiting for the parts. Basically as soon as your order is accepted then you are in pre-production until all the parts are available. Once they have parts, you are moved in to production.

What would be more helpful on the Dell site is for them to list what parts they are waiting for and what the eta of these parts are. It would let customers know what is happening and perhaps ease the sense of frustration at the lack of information. Pre-production is such a generic term and really gives no information to the customer about what is really going on.

hmm im just waiting for my phone call from dell tomorrow or friday that is supposed to be updating me on my situation. i think, if my supposed issue is the same for everyone, that the problem is the delivery of the missing part is coming tomorrow or friday, and then production can start. those who have delivery times next week or later may well get them on time, as unfair as that might be for those who have been pushed back.

    who knows eh.

Because im not dealing with indian customer care, im speaking with XPS tech support in Ireland. Its not a new sale, its a replacement for a faulty m1210 that they couldnt fix. Customer care are useless as you might be realising.

He wasnt playing ball on the phone RE a discount etc, going to contact me on monday regarding a proper date when they will get stock in, not just a figure one month from now.

Now going to email them and see what they can do for me.

Sadly not, your only port of call on most standard home sales is India.

I am updating here whenever i have news. I did post here that it was the screens causing the problem about a week ago and its taken up until now for customer care to catch up on this to tell you guys.

I will have one of the very first units from manufacturing (good thing or bad thing im not sure) because ive been without a laptop for 3 weeks now and XPS service is second to none. So When mine finally moves forward you can all get excited until then im afraid youre in for a quite a wait.

My best guess is that manufacturing will start on the week starting 13th August, just a hunch.

Indeed, that's not our problem though, as i'm sure many of you are about to experience, ringing you up TWO days before its due to arrive is very very poor form, and you should demand compensation/re-embursement for the time wasted, and the time that's going to be wasted without your laptop.

I think its a little late to stop people being really angry, everyone is angry already. If dell had said that it was going to be 13th august in the first place, everyone would be happy, although disappointed that they wouldn't be getting their 1330 for a while, that they knew that it would be delivered then. I expect that they will get more cancelled orders because of this malarkey than the amount of ppl that would have been put off if 13th august had been up there all along

Dont forget people this is a brand new product line, delays of this nature are very very very common. If you want to be first with the latest and greatest you have to expect delays on the way.

I always like waking up looking forward to something and this is no exception.

If anyone isnt happy then just cancel, its a no brainer.

I understand people being angry if some people were getting their orders and some wernt. But EVERYONE is in the same boat and nobody is getting them anytime soon.
