I checked with my bank today and i saw that the funds that Dell put on hold are no longer on hold. I checked my status on their website and it still shows that i have an order with them and that they haven't canceled my order. I am not quite sure what is happening in regards to the payment. I am in America right now (till the 28th) so i could easily get myself a cheap deal on another laptop over here. I hope that this goes through ok if it does not i will be pretty angry.

Bought 1330 3rd July
Estimated Delivery 20th July
... Updated Delivery 8 August..
The reason for the additional delay, I have been told is because of a series of broken monitor screens in the warehouse!
Apparently they are now awaiting more to come into stock to get ours made and shipped ASAP.
Plus the usual extra checks for the XPS models they do so kindly for us.....
Im annoyed as most are, but what can we do?
I might call again in a few days to check progress as I go away in a week. Might be able to get them to throw in a battery for inconveniance etc..
ALSO I found out today that their call number is a premium rate number!! -
Mine has now changed this morning and not happy at all. Should i wait for dell to contact me or shall i contact me rep?
Order Date: 04/07/2007
Estimated Delivery Date (on or before this date): 15/08/2007
Pre-Production as of 19/07/2007 -
-
So it would appear that the later your original EDD the earlier your revised date is, how is that fair? If you've got a estimated date at the beginning of August you might actually get your computer when you expected.
19/07 -> 20/08 (me and others)
20/07 -> 17/08
23/07 -> 15/08 -
hmm hadnt realised that, maybe the first revised dates were very careful, so they definitely didnt have to be put back again. you might get your laptop way ahead of your EDD then
-
If everyone started to be a little bit more realistic rather than optimistic then the agony of the delay will be much easier to bare.
Dell never guarantees a delivery date when an order is placed, its just an estimate and as is common on product launches there can be delays.
It still is and will be for quite sometime an object of desire and because of that i find the wait exciting.
Roll on the M1330 -
I don't think it's unrealistic to expect Dell to have supplied at least a few M1330s by now, four weeks after you could first buy them.
I think Dell's approach has been unrealistic
- Selling a product that they are not able to supply in a reasonable timescale
- Not having an initial stock of parts to satisfy some of the initial order surge
- Issuing estimated (on or before) delivery dates that they could actually keep to without undermining customers by suddenly extending them without warning or explanation
Perhaps if there was some consistency from Dell things might be better. For example my contact has said the parts are expected in tomorrow so there should be some deliveries next week, but as with most information from Dell at the moment this might be correct, misinformation or a ploy to stop me from cancelling. If Dell had issued the extended estimated at the very beginning or updated the date earlier we wouldn't all of had the disappointment of seeing our shiny new laptops snatched from us two days before we were expecting them. -
How come some people have received a compensation email?
The only email i received is:
Dear Customer
To ensure your Dell order is of the highest quality it is being assembled to your exact specification.
I have checked on the progress of your order and your Estimated Delivery Date has been revised as follows:
Order Number
PO Number
IR Number
Customer Number
Company Name
Order Date
Estimated Delivery Date
Revised Delivery Date
2xxxxxx8 7xxxxxx3 Lastname, Frstname Jul 4 2007 Jul 23 2007 Aug 15 2007
Once all the parts are available we will assemble it and then carefully pack it in time to meet the new Revised Delivery Date.
You can check on the progress of your order at anytime by clicking on this link: www.dell.co.uk/orderstatus
You’ll need your order number and your customer number xxxxxxxx
Thanks,
Dell
How soon after did they receive a compensation email. I don't think i will get one since the amount of bargaining i did. I want to push for some additional waranty though.
I also emailed my Rep and he's out of the office until Saturday too. -

I've asked Dell to cancel my M1330 order because I have taken my business elsewhere. I decided to go for a 14" machine which I hope will do the job of both my current bigger and smaller notebooks.
John -
John, If you don't mind me asking what did you go for?
-
It's on his description at the bottom. Coincidentally, if there is even a small problem when if and when my 1520 ships, I'm going with the Zepto 6324W, pretty much the same as the 6024W 'xcept with the 8600M GT.

Another new 13.3" which competes performance-wise with the M1330 is the Samsung Q70. There's a link below to my review. Visit Trusted Reviews for a second opinion. There's more about the Q70 in the Samsung forum.
I rethought my requirements and decided that instead of having both 13.3" and 15.4" notebooks I should try for one in between. Having decided I wanted 14.1" and 1440 x 900 resolution and the Intel X3100 GPU left me with little choice except Zepto and Dell. I wanted it next week, which Zepto say they can do but Dell wouldn't rise to the challenge. There's more choice if you want a dedicated GPU. For example, the A8SC / Z99SC (although its starting to get heavy - the Zepto claims to be 2.35kg (I'm not convinced about the A8SC's claimed 2.39kg since it's the same chassis and it the Z99SC was weighed at 2.8kg - see discussion of the Z99SC review). I'm digressing so I had better stop.

Ordered: 14th July
Est. Delivery: 10th August
Pre-Production: 15th July -
Seeing other peoples orders get delayed well into August, I'm beginning to worry that mine will go the same way. So I just contacted my Dell rep and I got this reply:
"I have checked your order status. It still shows as the 31st July or
before that. I have gotten it prioritize for you as well. If there is
any change, ill keep you posted."
Well as for the status, it seems he's just looking at the same date I do when I go on the order status thing.
But what's this? He's prioritized it! Ha ha suckers, looks like you're gonna have to make way for my M1330!
lol OK I think not, must just be his way of keeping me quiet right? -
any updates on the UK front?
-
Still languishing in preproduction, the August EDD is looking ever more likely.
stoopid dell. stoopid monday morning. stoopid miserable weather. -
yea tell me about it, hard to feel upbeat really
-
I requested that my Dell bloke give me a call today to update me on the situation, ill naturally post up what he has to say, I'm not in the slightest bit optimistic mind.
-
Wow, I mean, wow.
Ages ago I ordered a second 1330 due to the website showing a cheap 2.4Ghz, which turned out to be a mispriced 2.0Ghz (on the 9th July)
Anyway, I cancelled this a day afterwards, a week later I got another call asking if I wanted to cancel this laptop, I said yes, it should already be cancelled actually.
And today, right now, I got my THIRD call about this laptop asking if I wanted to cancel it, I mean seriously, WTF.
I am literally sick of dell ringing me up to either lie, or just waste my time. -
thats just great isnt it. why cant it be the other way round, 'hi, i have a spare 1330 just lying around, would you like me to send you it?'
-
Similar to a post on page 12, I rang up to check my status today after seeing lots of EDDs get delayed, yet the person I spoke to told me my m1330's in production and that my EDD is still Jul 31st... I'm getting a phone call to update me on thursday.
I don't understand how my EDD hasn't changed, yet with 8 days to go I'm still in the pre-production (online) or maaaybe the production (dell rep) stage.
In all honesty I'd rather be told my EDD has been pushed back, rather than sitting by the door for 12 hours on 31st July in case I miss the delivery man -
I've been told by my account manager that they have the parts to go ahead with building now and that theres a list of laptops they need to get out of the door by next week.
Apparantly he put me on that list.. So i'll keep you informed. -
how do we get put on this list then?
-
get an account manager whos desperate for some commision? lol
-
-
I'm sure it is lol ..but he's knows i dont take crap like that lightly
-
-
I know its stating the obvious but orders will be dispatched in the order in which they were received so if your original delivery date was not on or before the 20th July then your behind a ton of orders.
As most here will tell you your EDD will extend 48 hours before its due.
Ill no doubt find out later if Mike's source was reliable, -
-
If what Mike has been told pans out (im still waiting for my daily update from Irish tech support) then at long last the end of the tunnel maybe on its way. -
'Dear Mr. Scott,
This is in regards to inform you that the order is In Production and the Estimated Delivery Date for the order is by the 17/08/2007.
I shall call you on 27/07/2007 and let you know about the order status.
Please reply to my mail for any further queries.
Regards,
David'
Yet it was sent from some Abraham guy at Dell, WTF? conflict of names...!
Seriously just considering a Zepto 6224W. -
Ive been onto them just now.. they have emailed me this..
"Thank you for mailing Dell Inc. We apologise for our service and the
inconvinience caused to you . We confirmed that the order will no longer
be delayed and the order is been already qued for Priority. We are
facing some technical issues in launching this Laptop and therefore the
system is delayed in delivery. But everything has been rectified and you
will be hearing from us soon in regards to the delivery. Right now the
status of the order is in the final stage of Production. "
Hmmmm.. mine was 3rd but jumped to 6th August... but hey ho.. -
Mid to late August is acceptable seeing as it's a new product but Dell should have planned and informed us better. After all I was ordering a laptop, not pre-ordering! -
-
I wanted a nice slim laptop that I could move around easily, but couldn't quite afford the screen. Luckily they let me skip that option and I can use an old CRT I have with it
-
any news ?
-
I'm not sure if it's a good or bad sign but Dell charged my credit card for the laptop yesterday but there's been no update on the status page which is still saying estimated delivery 20/08 (previously 19/07).
-
It could mean progress but I'm not optimistic.
Dell Probably needs to report on sales figures or something and you don't count until they've got you cash. -
Just got an email from a dell rep, saying that he had spoken to logistics, and my order will be delayed until the second week of august. Ah well, more waiting.
-
thats the EED at the moment anyway...
I've just accepted the fact its not coming before the middle of August now.. I never really cared that much anyway as long its here before september -
One thing I was wondering... with the new intel price cuts, will these delays 'cost' us in real terms the more dell extend.... not that Im *****ing... got a good deal... but that zepto is looking mighty nice.. if it wasnt such sucky battery life on a 12 cell... plus white.. blurgh

Anyone having problems with the online order status checker thingy?
I get:
We have located your Order but we cannot advise a status, please contact Dell Customer Service.
What? -
zzzzzzzzz..... where is my laptop??!?!? Mine is still saying pre-production and I ordered mine on the 6th July and still says 1st August EDD.
Though... I've not contacted my sales rep for quite some time, if the guy can't guarantee this by the 1st August - I'm seriously reconsidering - he hasn't really bothered to contact me if the 1st August will be met, so I'm hoping this date is still valid.
Will be getting in touch with him tomorrow however. -
How's that work? -
-
Assuming the reps' definition of "priority order" means "first in the queue" and not "shut the customer up"... -
I think you'll find there is no such thing as priority orders, its just as you say to "shut you up". If you speak to anyone here they all seem to be priority
