Well i just cancelled my entire order and redid it. I got the best screen i could get, vista business instead of home basic, and 2gb of ram instead of 1gb. Also it costs £20 cheaper than before and will arrive only 4 days later. Woohoo....

AND IT JUST DROPPED $128 (£64) IN PRICE!!!
Maybe I should reorder or call dell to get a price redcution. This is just sad! :( Not a good way to start the day!

does anybody in europe really received a vostro yet?
or does anybody in the whole world received a vostro 1700 yet? Because on this forum/site i haven't seen any review or foto's yet of it...

I know lots of people that have got the Vostro 1000 in the UK, but haven't heard of anyone getting their 1400, 1500 or 1700 yet.

I have just come back from holiday expecting the status of mine to change... guess what? It hasn't changed at all. If it comes on the 10th (EDD) I will be very happy.

AiA, did they phone you to tell you your order has been put back, or was it just updated on EMEA?

First I saw the dealyed update on the orderstatus website, then they e-mailed me about the delay and the changed date. They said that they were following the progress of my order and that it would be longer than the expected date. Im so impatient right now.

Im currently in discussion with dell to get the 2.2 ghz prosessor rather than the 2.0 beacuse of the price reduction and the delays.

I just specced mine up again and it was cheaper  Did some research and found a much better specced vostro for £10 cheaper! I am on the phone to Dell this morning!

    The new spec is:

    1.8 proc
    8600M GT
    Webcam
    Bluetooth
    Truelife WXGA
    2gb ram

    Compare that to my sig!

Can you both post your specs and how much it cost you against the spec of the new better machines and the price you can get for that.

    I feel wronged!

What an absolute nightmare. Dell really are a really bad company to deal with sometimes.

I just phoned up to change the order and guess what "I am sorry sir your order is currently in production" hmm yeah right, still shows pre-production on EMEA and its a massive coincidence the day I phone to change the order its suddenly in production. Anyway, I cancelled the order completely and re-ordered the other laptop, added a few extras and it came to the same price... just got to wait a month for it to arrive :( Good thing I am not in a massive rush.

    Intel® Core™ 2 Duo T7100 Processor (1.8GHz,800MHz,2MB L2 cache)
Genuine Windows Vista™ Business - English

Just waiting for my new EDD now. I am NOT changing the order ever again :p

I personally think its a strategy to smooth out the delay bottleneck - reduce the cost so some of those involved in the bottle neck cancel and reorder, placing them later in the line and smooting out the bulge of orders waiting to be produced.

I am tempted to reorder though and tkae advantage ....

If you aren't in a rush then why not. At the end of the day I should get a much better laptop, and I don't want one of the first laptops to come off the production line anyway because they are bound to have a few niggles. Looking forward to the EDD, I estimate it to be 31st of August.

I just got off the phone with dell and the rep. told me that it would be a waste of time to cancel my order and re-order, so I just stuck to my current config. and got a $141 (£69) discount, leaving me with a total price of $1809 (£886). Keep in mind that I also got free shipping and a Dell Printer included when I bought it so at the moment I am satisfied.

One of the reasons I cancelled was the free printer ;) Its not that great to be honest, and I could have added it to my order for £35... so its not like its worth a great deal. I already have a good printer and scanner anyway.

I would probably have stuck with my current config if they had offered money off, but they didn't and I am happy to wait, as long as its not over a month

What is your EDD now, AiA?

Ok, I don't have a printer already but I just want it to have an extra gadget to play with and it will be great to have the ability to scan things as well. And the printer cost about £82 here so I thought it was a good deal ;)

I'm set for 4th of September :( with hopes that it will arrive before.

Have you tried speccing up your laptop with the current offers? There are some new e-value codes out which give some really good deals. If you cancelled and re-ordered I doubt you would get it any later, probably earlier.. its a bit of a lottery though and if you are happy with the money off it might be best to stick.

The only thing I want to upgrade is from the Intel Core 2 Duo 2,0 GHz to 2.2 GHz and this would cost me £57 more than the price I have now.
So I think I'll stick with this and see what happens. If its still in Pre-Pro. by friday next week I will consider a cancellation.

If you reorder now you will get a 4 week delivery date. They are advising that now (at least with the 1700). Thats what makes me believe its a (good) ploy to even out the production load.

Kinda hoping it'll get delayed a week so I can hit them for money off anyway and not have to reorder and start with a 4 week wait again. Gonna keep my eye on the situation nearer to the end of the current offer and nearer my est delivery date.

It's kind of a waiting game. I could have waited and had my order put back 4 weeks, like AiA but I would rather take the better spec now and wait a bit longer. If it does take 4 weeks I will have been waiting 6 weeks in total.

Still no EDD, will report back when I have it.

I cancelled my order and re-ordered yesterday due to the price drop.
Sale rep said he'd email me my new order number..... no email.
Called today and he's not there. Phoned again later, voice mail message had changed and he still wasn't in. Finally managed to speak to some one and they gave me an order number. It was the same as the one I cancelled!
They said they'd put me through to a supervisor..... voice mail!!

I'm getting very annonyed now! I don't even know if the sale rep has even redone my order! Can't find out now till Monday! Beginning to wish I had never gone with Dell :(

If we'er lucky we all might get it by the start of spetember or hopefully before.

My delivery date was pushed back from the 10th of august till the 4th of september.
I got an e-mail telling me that when all the parts are accessible, they will assemble and box it in good time to meet the changed deliver date.

Everyone seems to be getting that date on the 1500. I really do wonder why I cancelled and re ordered, but no doubt if I had stuck the EDD would have been put back anyway.

If I get the laptop in 2 weeks I will be happy, if it takes 4 weeks I probably will have given up all hope by then and ordered another laptop :D

I re-ordered my Vostro 1500 today after a great deal of frustration and I got a EDD of 31st August. Not too bad considering my EDD for the Vostro I ordered last week was 29th August. Plus this laptop was £70 cheaper too!

As per your other thread, a laptop only takes 4 hours from part bin to boxed. I think they expect to sort out the supply problems by the 31st.

Personally I don't think they either have the casings or equipment to build some of the Vostros because none seem to be being made with any spec.

Who was it that works for the Dell factory in Limerick? Maybe you can tell us what is delaying things? :D

I ordered my Vostro 1400 on 01-08-2007 and my estimated delivery date is 21-08-2007 according to the order status web page. Im in the UK. But after checking all these posts Im not expecting that to be delivered in time really. In the Order status page....it still shows Preproduction. Well I called my rep today and She told its in the production as of now on 8th August....Cant understand whats dell doing........and what they r saying......

I think they are classing pre-production as production - just to try and calm the masses.

Damn. They said, they were still waiting on glass for the screen. This is the third time I've got this answer, so I guess its true. And the rep. reasured me that it would be here in good time before my delivery date which was changed from 10th of august to the 4th of September.

So I guess the only thing to do is wait.
