The North Bridge chip and South Bridge chip are collectively called the chipset. North bridge handles communication between CPU, Memory and Graphics card while the South bridge handles PCI, USB and other system devices. Only integrated graphics adapters like Intel GMA or Radeon Xpress series are built in to the north bridge. Dedicated adapters like nVidia Go 7xxxx/8xxxx or ATI Xseries cards have a separate GPU chip.

There are no DELL branded chipsets, only Intel or AMD for notebooks (I think Sis and VIA also make few mobile chipsets, but the market share is very small). In DELL notebooks all the Intel processors have Intel chipset based motherboards.

    This is a great thread!

I was actually wondering why some notebooks have the "Centrino Duo" sticker while others have "Core 2 Duo". Mine will have the "Core 2 Duo" sticker because of my wireless.

I opened up my laptop, took out the GPU and CPU. Took the badges on the laptop and stuck em on the motherboard. WOOOOO!!!!! I'm cool! I'm better than all of you cause I super glued the processor and graphics card next to my touchpad. I got UBER badges now!

    :)

I have the bluetooth, 8600gt, centrino duo, and Vista badges on my G1S.

i got the core 2 duo stick on my machine so i rock! i was worried about this too before my laptop came. Because centrino looks like a weak stick, and people will think i have some whimpy intel processor. So you whimps who think it doesnt matter are wrong! Because chick dig the sticker for sure!! And my savvy friends show me honor and bow down to me every time i walk.

The vista sticker looks kinda ugly in my opinion. The XP one was a lot better, plus it was shiny ^_^

Good luck. There are no real method of doing that either. There are some tricks that help but nothing that works for sure without risk of damaging the case. For me it was just some old fashioned "elbow grease" that did it for me as I replaced the old Windows XP sticker with the "Windows Vista Capable" variant of it.

Why doesn't there any Nvidia Geforce sticker on any of the Dell Laptops even when it has same graphics card inside.... These stickers add real Class.. :)
Is there any catch in this... OEM and stuff like that....

As it has been said before.

If you get Intel Chipset, Intel Processor, and Intel Wireless then you will get the Intel Centrino sticker.

If you get just the Intel Chipset and Intel Processor then you will get a Core 2 Duo sticker -- In this scenario the wireless would be a non-Intel adapter. All the Dell braned adapters for the E1705 for example are Broadcom chipset based. Not intel based.

But the Centrino Do stick says C2D on it anyways... so yea does that make um uber cooler

surely this whole sticker business can be solved quickly, effectively and above all...free of charge.

by just going to pc world with your kid, who's on a mission to get the 'cool' stickers from the pc's and laptops (just tell him/her to stick to the good ones such as the core2duo and the nvidia ones. unless you actually have the balls to take it off your self...

sweet and innocent way of getting the sticker of your desire!
