LOL how does it immediately get outgunned when Prema's score was set way before mine? Did the writer forget to check the dates? ROFL

Sounds like mainstream media click bait news haha... Silly...

When I see the prices of the new laptops, and horrific thermal and fan noise from them, I want to vomit.

I am absolutely loving using a desktop with my dual fan tower cooler, 3 fan GPU cooler, all running cooler and faster than my laptop at 1/4 the sound volume. Those blower fans high pitched high speed fans are so annoying. Love the low hum that even when gaming, that I can't hear at all using either speakers or headphones.

I can't believe it cost me $1650 from complete scratch. My current setup in my signature for $1650. Got amazing sale deals from NewEgg, Amazon and MicroCenter.

And the warranty so much better than on laptop, on all the laptops I that interested me only offered 1 year, 2 years for stupid amount of money. 3 years for my GPU and board, 10 years for power supply, lifetime warranty for my fans, dunno what AMD offers.

Yup, super expensive, no doubt. Very poor value.

I've never been one to mind about loud. I love loud cars and motorcycles, and loud music. From years of those things and using electric and pneumatic power tools and firearms, my hearing is pretty buggered up, but I still kind of like noise for some reason. But, most people don't.

What really ruined it for me, and the straw that broke the camel's back, came when NVIDIA stopped supporting MXM and everyone showed up to the party with proprietary GPU garbage. Along with things like BGA bullcrap, thin and light goals, clock-blocking, locked down voltage and power limit crippling, shenanigans with EC firmware, and a list of other foolishness involving both CPU and GPU, notebook manufacturers made it onto my *hit list, and I am fairly certain at this point that there is not any forgiveness coming their way from Mr. Fox on the horizon. And, I suspect they don't care what people like me want, (obvious by their behavior,) and things will only get worse. I have no regrets for writing them all off. They can all bob over and smooch my posterior.

The laptop I own now is pathetic, but it does email and web surfing well enough. I have it because I set a price cap of $500 for notebooks and I was able to shave $150 off of that amount. This represents the extent of my commitment to mobile computing now, and also represents the value I place on the broken garbage we used to call high performance laptops and desktop replacements.

    This one was worse.

He asked “which other gaming notebooks walk side by side with the Area-51m” and then answered his own inquiry with a single word, “none.” Unfortunately, Khan forgot this was Twitter

Alienware has been famous for anecdotal claims to fame for a long time. :vbwink: And, they've been wrong for a long time. It was nice to see them called out for it and put in their place by two outstanding members of this community and Notebookcheck. A refreshing change from the dull drone of the Aliensheeple complaining about their malfunctioning turdbooks. But, they're within striking distance now, so that is also a refreshing change that restores a smidgen of credibility to what has been a long losing streak marred by marketing lies and misrepresentation.

Yep, i'm glad they are making a comeback. I use to love my M18XR1/2. We had many great times with those machines. The old days.
But jumping the gun on being number 1 is very long stretch of the imagination. There are roughly 20 benchmarks and the only one everyone seems to run is firestrike. :D

Yup, exactly. We should be seeing some 3DMark 11, Sky Diver and Vantage if we want to see the men separated from the boys. Yeah, some of my best memories that will last a lifetime involve my old M18xR1/R2 and you, brother John, brother svl7, and @Prema post-Alienware.

Let's see if this gets left alone on the Notebookcheck comments. In case it disappears, here is what I had to say to the Kool-Aid drinkers coming to Khan's rescue, LOL. @Prema

Wow...to think... @Papusan can post a link to the notebookcheck article in this forum without repercussions, which is the way it should be...he can get contrarian responses, and counter=responses can be given - yet, I post the same link in the Area 51M forum, a fanboy takes offense, I respond to him nicely...and I get a PERMANENT BAN from the thread (I had already received a one-week ban because the fanboys picked fights with every negative thing I said about the A51M...so I was accused of "inciting" and "antagonizing" by the moderators). Censorship at its finest here @ NBR. Guess as long as you tote the Dell party line, moderators like "the Dellenator" and the "Supermoderator" won't try to shut you up.

Bottom line is this: The Clevos have a pedigree, can perform at least as well as the A51M...AND DON'T HAVE BURNING MOTHERBOARDS/GPUs, EXPLODING VRMs, etc. Clevos are not "gimped" by a locked-down bios and 2400 RAM (c'mon...really Dell? Why was this done out of the box? And if it is a simple BIOS fix, why hasn't the fix been put out??). So when it comes to benching and overclocking, the Clevos seem to have more headroom....more potential...despite the fact that these particular models were developed years and years before even a whiff of being able to hang with the big boys came out of Dell.

Dell should be ashamed of putting out a product that probably has close to a 50% failure rate insofar as the A51M thread owners are concerned, and that is touted as a machine for enthusiasts, when it is so gimped and is more functional as a chicken wing air fryer than a gaming laptop.

Sometimes the truth hurts. I guess being big boys and taking your lumps when you deserve to is out of fashion these days.

I hope someone memorializes this response...because I want to see if the icy death grip of Dell fanboyism rears its ugly head in this forum, and my post gets deleted, and I get banned here as well.

I think some of it is you are dealing with a certain age group, those with a different mindset, and brand fanboism on steriods. Those people are more emotionally tied to specific products based on brand and tend to be "religious" about their loyalty. When you acknowledge actual results rather than participation and effort, call balls and strikes on errors, and don't care about brand, it rubs some people the wrong way... especially the younger folks that are used to getting a trophy for nothing more than participating.

I can see it from your perspective 100%... if the shoe fits, they need to wear it... have their big-boy pants on and take it like a man. I think where it could be different for some of us, including (especially) Brother @Papusan, is we have been railing on broken notebook trash for a number of years and nobody can say we are singling out a specific brand for criticism. Our contempt for garbage is universal and brand agnostic. We express a lot of contempt for all of it, including Clevo. I am not saying that you are singling out a particular brand, or that you ever have, but it might appear that way based on a recent change in your posting habits... especially if the people taking issue with it are overly sensitive and they have not noticed you doing that in other forums, to other brands that sell equally or more pathetic garbage.

Balancing the hate for trash with some recognition for right steps... Area 51M having a desktop CPU and modular GPU (albeit a proprietary morphodite) are clearly right steps... can help temper the emotional reactions. Although it would be unfortunate to have to preface every negative comment with such an acknowledgment to soften (or excuse) the identification of the crap.

Exactly. :) I've been saying all along ... build a really decent desktop (in your case for only $1650) and get a beater laptop with plenty of dosh left over. Smart move...

However, keep in mind that a lot of the inflated prices of high end laptops are due to being equipped with maxed out SSD's, RAM etc...which adds a huge ridiculous premium to the overall cost.

Most would be able to get their gaming in just fine with a cheap laptop. Take for example the wally world OP laptop for $799 with the GTX 1060 + 144Hz Panel. Yet, people over pay into the 3-5K range which is very steep. -- More power to having a freedom of choice and the means to do it, but ideally if one is really going for cost to performance, going the desktop route with a beater laptop is the smarter option... but hey who are we to say what people should buy or not eh?... it's their money and their choice. Fair game... that doesn't mean we have to agree with it.

The death of MXM forced ODM's to go their own route. If MXM still was alive it would have been the ideal choice for ODM's to go that route to build off of an existing foundation... but so far, MXM or not the proprietary cards are holding up their bargain despite the 2100walL. It's way more than enough to game on.

I do see your point toward the issues mentioned...as I feel the same way about smartphones and their firmware lock downs.... so I totally get it.

Categorically, so far the A51M is the fastest among the mainstream brands...(msi, asus, acer, hp etc...) - Clevo/Sager etc... is not considered a mainstream brand or widely known.

Among the general category between the top two, P870TM and A51M, the clevo has the edge in almost every department. The gpu department is very close... @Prema and my graphics score are in the 31(200)'s ... the difference is small between them and I'm still working at seeing if I can top the top. :)

It'd be interesting if that editor had to re-write his article in the event an A51M does take the top in Fire Strike.

That's a balanced way of looking at it. To be fair though, AW/Dell aren't the only victims of false claims. The industry is flooded with click bait by all brands to draw in the prey, which is the majority.

I'll be benching over the weekend so we'll see if we can get what already is striking distance closer to grappling distance. :) GPU wise it's already there neck to neck ...

Ah good ol' days... Gosh I kind of wish that I had kept all my old school AW's... There are a lot of folks that still have theirs.

In terms of benchmarks, everyone is running Fire Strike because that has long been the 3DMark choice for comparison. Time Spy soon followed... but yes of course there are a lot more benches. That however isn't the point of why the majority uses FS as a unit of measure... back in the day a lot of the newer bench programs didn't exist, but now that there are more tests available, I'm sure one of them will start to gain traction like FS did... perhaps SuperPosition... who knows...

I woudn't go as far as to say separating the men from the boys, because the intent of using Fire Strike as a comparison is in respect to what it has evolved to become throughout the years, before all of the other bench apps came into existence.

As for me you can be darn sure that I'll be running through them all once I dial in the CPU ... hopefully that is, system willing. It makes no sense to try and shoot for PR's when the cpu isn't dialed in...

But as to your comment about separating the men from the boys... I find it a bit irrelevant to the facts here. Just my 2 cents brother. Agreeing to disagree is healthy. :)

You're safe here mate. :) It's a lot more tame...although you'll still get a hint of trolling at times, but that's normal. I agree that censorship should not be enforced based on personal feelings by those who can control the content. It's a pity really...

There are several groups of people in general within forums. Old school farts, the common enthusiast, noobs, the gamer heads, and the actual enthusiasts. No matter what you'll find pockets of people who group together to pat each other on the back and it's hilarious to witness. It's almost like a sesame street cult. Then you have the usual lurkers..aka..trolls that have nothing better to do, but to knock on everything in their path. Next you have the cocky bunch who lack any humbleness and think they are on top of the world. As for the majority there are a lot of fine folks here..some old, some not so old and some young... but you just have to weed out the yappers from the contributors like with any forum... This place is toxic though lol...which is why a lot of people avoid it like a plague.

As for my A51M's so far so good and they've been running hard almost daily... no smoke yet. We'll see ...

I agree, it's apparent that there are a large majority of young lads that love the gamer fashion. More power to them, but having such a large majority of young people also brings in a lot of favoritism like you've mentioned. However, on the contrary that doesn't mean that older folks are immune to being defined as such. It doesn't take much to see a great example of an adult here with junior high remarks toward xyz, so it can go both ways...

There's nothing wrong with having an opinion toward certain "whatever," but how one carries themselves into discussing their opinion speak volume on where they are categorized, which often is right there with the young rgb gamer groupies.

The bigger problem that I'm seeing here is the ignoring of the reality of facts. I had no idea about that recent article on notebookcheck, but you look at the wording and it's misleading as it fails to mention that the systems being compared are not apples to apples. The dude obviously left out a lot vital information that is necessary to distinguish the differences lol... typical journalism click bait. I wonder what will happen if in the event the A51M can outpace the P870TM. What then? Perhaps the new article will be titled, "The Rocky story of the dtr world?" -

The point is that it's petty to beat ones chest with winning a race with the faster car. It's silly. During my drag racing days one would be frowned upon for bragging, let alone you'd be hard pressed to find any real car enthusiast at the track bragging about winning over a car in a different class. If that same ethics were here we wouldn't be seeing such things... with a lot less hate going on and with more love and support for the fellow driver...

    The rise of Rizen...

    Rizen....we welcome you. :)

I'm actually really looking forward to how AMD will lay the smack down ... still yet to be proven, but double the core/threads for the same price as Intel with less is intriguing....

I have it set to an offset of +1500Mhz on the memory which should be 3000Mhz above stock. If only I had a full block and water chiller to push clocks above 2200Mhz. Right now I've got it at about 2145mhz peak on the AIO 120mm in a push/pull config. Games run a stable 2100Mhz which is nice.

I've got my name on the auto-notify list for a K|NGP|N 2080 Ti. Whether I can actually ever be fast enough to snag one of them unicorns as they trickle out to market one or two at a time is another story. I am half tempted to just sell my 2080 Ti and use the money buy crappy old GPUs that nobody actually uses for benching or gaming any more for $200 or less and use them to rack up a ton of HWBOT points, then sell them again.

If you hold out long enough the water block is coming soon for it. One would think they would skip the AIO and sell it as a blocked card option.

I saw an EVGA video that said they were not going to sell it as a Hydro Copper model and you'd have to buy that separately. I'd buy it separately, no problem. The hard part will be just getting one's hands on the GPU. I am hoping there are enough of them that the gamer-kids that already splurged on a 2080 Ti won't care about the K|INGP|N cards and I will be fortunate enough to snag what I expect to be a very limited number of them that are made available. I think the shroud on the KINGP|N AIO model is kind of tacky looking and I am a little bit shocked that Vince was OK with his name being put on it. Seems like they could have paid a little better attention to the aesthetic qualities of the AIO. If a Hydro Copper block is not in stock if and when that day comes, I'll probably just take that ugly shroud off of it, cut the hoses and splice it into my loop with quick-disconnect fittings.

Same here... Good luck to the both of us and to others who are in the same boat. :)
Yes of course my point exactly. You've just answered your own question. A51M is limited. P870TM is not. Lol... That's precisely the point, but they are being compared as the same when it's not. Unlock the A51M then it's apples to apples.

Until then winning the race with the faster and more capable car holds little value when trying to compare it to something that's not in the same class overall. Either way, I'll keep trying. :) I know there's more potential to be had in this system.
Oh? In that case we'll just have to aim for what we can get our hands on eh? I too want the water block for sure...

Yes I agree the shroud is a bit tacky... But it's saving grace is that it's a KP. :) Complete drag car mode.
Super! You've got this. :) Keep us posted.

Yea those spikes are crazy right? I think I saw a 2190mhz spike at one time... Only if it could hold.

Take a look at the system that's in 3rd place...that excites me. I'm partial to AMD CPUs because (1) Intel has ripped all of us off for years; (2) If it wasn't for AMD, Intel wouldn't have put out the chips we're seeing now, and (3) as evidenced by that 3rd place score, AMD CPUs are overclockable (depending upon the platform, of course), and offer HUGE bang for the buck!

Only wanted to see what minimum settings it took for 27K. Holding back on other benches as well because no one will keep benching when they get demotivated from early on high scores. It's really not that serious. After all it's a new gen of GPUs and people should have some fun first. :)

    Edit:

What they should really write an article about is NVIDIA artificially clock-blocking all Notebook RTX, regardless of ODM, from running more than 2100Mhz...
As things are now we can't even really overclock to begin with.

On the contrary I get motivated from seeing higher scores. I guess it just depends on the person. Within this class there's not much of a margin anyway. It's not like seeing LN2 numbers or anything. I'd say keep benching... please. :)

I would love to see that article. :p

Who cares if they do not want to bench my friend? We are a team who benches any or all benchmarks for points. If they are scared that is no concern of ours. :)

    Side note:
As to the rest. I'll wait till an A51M actually wins something, but as of today's date. It holds no wins at anything, but it does hold the title for most excuses made on why it can't win.

I've been hunting for two of these cards and so far, nothing. They are not really sending e-mail notifications about the K|NGP|N. At least almost all of the other EVGA 2080 TI's are in stock.

I played with a H370 (OC locked) 2060 BGA/LGA combo system the other day and was even running the CPU underclocked. Yet, this is the distance to next run on FS:

    https://www.3dmark.com/compare/fs/19132270/fs/19031558

Wouldn't that demotivate you to even try? I surely would loose all interest just by looking at that...

If no one benches then there won't be many points to gain though.
I mean look at this, it's all blank because no-one even tries:

Correction. The A51M graphics score is higher than yous by over 140+ points. :) The real question is how will you react if it does over take your p870tm scores?

You always say that you'll wait... lol

Negative ghost rider. Like I've said, it's very motivating because I actually enjoy benching. I never looked at it as not trying just because there is a higher score. :) If someone is really like that then that just comes to show what their commitment is measured by. To each his own.

Yea that's pretty empty... once I get the CPU dialed in then off to the other benches ... but until then there's no point.

So if someone would unhide a 27.5K run right now you would stay motivated even though due to limitations out of your hands you would have to drop out or run the system into the ground trying?

If I saw that and knew there was absolutely no way my hardware bearing the same name/model number could achieve those results due to artificially imposed functional limits implement by the retards that manufactured my GPU I would not even bother. In fact, I am at that point now. I've pushed my GPU as far as it can be pushed with its castrated voltage limit. I can't beat my own best scores because it hits a brick wall having exhausted all of its potential with its Mickey Mouse 1.093V cap and I am no longer interested in benching because all I can do is repeat the same scores. That really sucks. At least having a thermal limit would be a challenge I could work at. I need more voltage than I can use. I have that with the CPU and the only reason I don't with the GPU is the people at NVIDIA are imbeciles and all of their AIB partners are yes-man muppets.
Nah, bro. You could be at the top of the food/points chain right now by taking a bunch of top 10 scores, then beat your own best after you dial it in. Now would be the perfect time to jump in and set the bar that everyone else has to reach.

Laptops have never had high points. That would be the desktop categories. I think the highest we have gotten to is 5.7 points for first. You would have to go back to the earlier gpus with more people and years accumulated.

You still lost? So i'm lost at the point being made. I'm only concerned about the win not how I got there. I don't need to beat your gpu score if i cared that much about it. Prema already did. You have yet to beat mine or his physics and combined score. With your 5.2 ghz over clocked cpu?

And should that day actually come to pass, come find me so i can beat it again. :)

Why not? See brother I look at it differently than what may seem like the norm for most people? I'd be just as satisfied to beat my own PR, because of the fact that there is a higher score. It's like a lot of sports, where if you have something to look towards achieving it makes one work harder and most of the time they end up beating their own PR.

See I think that's the issue here in that there is a lot of arrogance and cockiness among some people, which is sad... At least you and @Mr. Fox are very humble about things and level headed.

Not everyone reacts the same to competition ... some get sour over it and quite frankly it's hilarious to watch. Sore losers are no fun... it's not about always winning.. it's about enjoying and winning at the goal you set for yourself... aka... PR. :)

After congratulating him on a job well done. :vbwink:

I just love other people and want the best for everyone. And, I try my hardest to follow the Golden Rule and treat others the way I want to be treated.

But, I am pragmatic to a fault about benching and if I can't compete with the product I have against the same product someone else has, I'm not going to bother benching. Benching is like fishing for me. I love it as long as I am catching lots of fish. As soon as the fish stop biting, give or take about 15 minutes, then I'm done fishing (like watching paint dry) and I'm ready to move on to something more interesting. It's the thrill of the kill for me, and I don't give a rat's butt about the journey, LOL.

I never ascribed to the old cliche, "It's not whether you win or lose, but how you play the game." How you play the game matters, (as in being honorable and not cheating,) but losing always sucks. If I am not winning, I stop playing and go find something else to do that I can win at.

Not really. In the mainstream gaming laptop realm it's still the top and I think that's something you're having a hard time understanding.

It's funny how you ignore the fact that both machines are not apples to apples.

How can you sit there and brag about barely having a higher score when you have a Prema bios modded system? Pretty silly really...

The fact is that your gpu score is 140+ points below this A51M. Your cpu score is where it should be whereas the cpu is still a working progress on this system.

It won't hurt be a little more humble... with respect, you really come off very arrogant and this isn't the only time... stay positive. :)

About as silly as bringing up why you can't win. It's not arrogance, it's more like frustration on all the same excuses being brought up all the time.

Not only that, the new TR CPUs based on Zen 2 are rumored to drop in Q4. So this crown is good until then. After that, there is a chance that these scores will be beat while working with less than a kW of power.
