Might be an interesting read, I'm reading it now: https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/features/inside-intels-secret-overclocking-lab

And here on this page of the above article they talk about "safe" overclocking practices:
    https://www.tomshardware.com/uk/features/inside-intels-secret-overclocking-lab/7
As it turns out I follow all of those safe overclocking practices, in terms of using 1.4V, keeping working & idle temps well below their recommendations, and enabling C-states.

Actually, this is a great article now I've finished reading it to the end...I recommend reading it right from page 1 all the way through to the end (written well & interestingly too).

    New CB20 PR @ 5.3GHz w/ my 9900KF

I've been testing my KF's to see which one I want to run as a daily in my gaming rig (since the rig doesn't need a top tier K or KS status of a CPU) and I'm pretty impressed with how well this KF is doing...

This is on my test bench. CPU is on a simple water loop; 360 Rad and 6x fans push/pull. Ambient room temp.

    CB R20: 5681
    [IMG]

Fastest in the regular water non chilled class... gosh now I'm excited to get this thing on the chiller.

    9900KS - 5.0GHz @ 1.14v

I haven't thoroughly tested it yet, but so far it seems like a winner. While benching the KF I just let this run on the other test bench with a Fire Strike Extreme combined test loop...

The lowest KS I've seen at 50x was around 1.16v from maybe two owners... it's a hit or a miss as some KS's need 1.26v and up to run 50x stable, which is a major rip because almost all the K's I've binned can do that easily.

Yup. And some people said I was stupid for having only 1600w PSU's.

Some people are stupid. Far better to have too much than not enough. 1600W makes perfect sense and I consider that to be a good minimum PSU spec that everyone should shoot for.

To add...what's hilarious is how some people think using a 1600w PSU uses 1600 Watts all the time LOL.

Ideally it's best to stay within the 50-80% range of the PSU rating, as that's where the peak efficiency range is for PSU's...

I had the EVGA 850 T2 Titanium in the main gaming rig, but when I swapped the GPU to the 2080Ti FTW3 I had to quickly swap that out to a 1000w due to the insane power draw in order to stay within the efficiency range.

That's a lot of wattage when it comes down to just the CPU primarily! You upgrade from 16 to 18 cores then, congrats on the upgrade I guess it's something new to play with even it is only just 2 more cores, but I guess it pushes your HWBot scores up? Did you get rid of your 7960X?

    No, it's fine. Not disrespectful.

I don't know how you can add it to the BIOS as a boot splash screen, but here is one I had @Prema incorporate for me a while ago.

There are tools you can use to change the BIOS boot logo, but I have never used them.

You could also ask @Prema to do it if/when he has time and send him a "thank you" donation.

It's an old setup. 120mm water cooling and single ram stick(DDR3). I just bench it as it is. I will probably not invest money in an extra stick or package with 2. I have only swapped the weak radiator fan with a couple of 120mm EK-Vardar I had lying.

Well looks like I'll be joining the ranks here in this thread for a while.

Gave up on my laptops as I need more consistent performance for production type of mindset.

    2700x
    B450-i strix
    32gb 3200mhz b die
    5700xt red devil
    2x5tb
    1x 2tb ssd
1x 1tb msata to sata ssd
    Nhd15s
    Lian li tu 150
    550w evga sfx psu

I need to tune the gpu so that the range of fps is tighter. The bios needs flashing for better memory support so I can run above 3000mhz, and the cpu seems to turbo 4.3ghz just fine but more often than not its 4.0ghz

Overall I am quite pleased with the results thus far. Wasnt a huge improvement over my tuned 1070 but I'll take it anyways. However recently AMD started including a bunch of crap in their drivers to make it more of a software suite. I'll be cutting that crap out later today and should be back to snuff.

Otherwise I'm quite happy with it, the nhd15 keeps the cpu around 50c with my gentle typhoon 2150rpm's and it's barely humming along. Red devil is also quite inaudible for the most part around 45%.

The motherboard had a faulty sata port but I will attempt to fix it this weekend as I really don't want to make the drive back to microcenter. Driving into Dallas always sucks eggs.

I know the overclockers like Intel and Nvidia more but I didn't want to pay the price they command or desired to tinker too much to get the performance out of the machine. I think I struck a happy medium

    There are two scenarios.

One is to set the hotjeys to something stupid that would never be used like ctrl + shift + alt + f2.

The next more "nuclear" method is to install via device manager after canceling the install to get the inf out of the installation. Probably have to remove internet and use Shutup10 to prevent automatic hardware updates.

    Ah good to be back.

Thinking of getting rid of my Radeon VII and switch to a Titan X (Pascal) card.

Found some for a good price.

Hate AMD drivers when it comes to running 4K 60Hz 4:2:2 or 4:2:0 they don't seem to handle things well.

I have two outputs from my GPU

    HDMI ----> 4K TCL TV (4K @ 60Hz HDMI 2.0b)

    DP 1.4 ---> HDMI 2.0b adapter ---> Onkyo-TX-NR838 Receiver (HDMI "2.0" but has 1.4 bandwidth) ---> Epson 4010 Projector (HDMI "2.0" but has 10.2 GBPS bandwidth)

Even switching to 1080p duplicate is annoying because it will run at 29Hz interlaced and I have to go to advanced monitor properties and switch back to 60Hz....and I don't even restart the desktop...

I remember nVidia handling these issues back in Maxwell very well

Awesome. How did you do it? Did you find the tools to add the boot logo yourself?

That gadget on the upper right corner of the screen is AIDA64 Sensor Panel. I have attached a template you can use as a starting point. Also included the header font.
