Yeah, I think it should be industry-wide. When I made an exception for business reasons I meant a company replacing broken or non-functional systems for which parts are not readily available or adding to their computer fleets to accommodate business growth. What they charge for professional cards is ludicrous, but what they charge for consumer/enthusiast CPU and GPUs is no less ludicrous and out of scope with anything that even remotely resembles decent value.
Hiring Azor really called their intelligence into question. If they thought he did a good job at Alienware/XPS, their judgment becomes even more questionable.

In a nutshell.
They are doing good things on the CPU side after PhenomII/FX and while the product stack was small they did provide some good competition in certain markets but right now AMD's problem (for me) is they cant compete with the value proposition they provided. I paid 160 USD + tax for my 2700x (new) and now they want 650 for a (2) generational equivalent. The previous offering still offers way more value at present. I dont NEED an upgrade, I would like one though lol.
GPU market is even worse but that was expected, though hardly condoned. Its nuts that my GPU sells for near double what I bought it for.
I know nvidia end of things arent any better but I havent kept up with Intel since I dont have much interest in their products right now...
I already played CyberPunk 2077 and my desktop managed 75+ FPS easily everything else is already known territory so I really dont have any justifiable reason for wasting my money right now lol. only thing I play right now is MGS5 and that runs on a potato.
Back to the books it is I guess, It would be nice for the market to smooth out though as I am sure there are many people who would like to upgrade and enjoy some immersion considering how absurd things are in adult life presently... -
That is the problem though. With all the lockdowns and other crap forcing more to work from home or preventing people from going out and enjoying life, many have bought high end computer systems to work from home or to replace going and doing things with gaming. That has caused black friday like volumes, usually only seen for a week, maybe a month tops, to exist constantly since Q2 2020. With that much demand for 3 quarters in a row (btw, notice that ram prices were FALLING and NAND was FALLING during that entire period of unprecedented demand, suggesting that they artificially caused the high prices through collusion until the Chinese anti-monopoly division started investigating them, whereas the US antitrust at the FTC and European antitrust did NOTHING, just to point that out) has caused the full emptying of all supply channels. This is combined with trade wars causing maneuvering to avoid China being listed as the country of origin, which is a topic all its own (not commenting on if bad or good thing, just saying it happened and is its own topic).
This is why my plans were crushed and I went to only buying because a motherboard voltage reading circuit went out. The CPU still boots to windows fine, you just have no voltage monitoring for the CPU (including SA and IO as well as the VID, VCCin, etc.), and it now has intermittent crashing (so I do not trust running it without swapping the board, which I still plan on doing then handing that system off to my parents to update their system which is even older than Skylake).
But, quelling demand won't happen until western nations stop locking down and doing other things. Don't want to get too political here, though (a surprise, right?). So I will leave it there.

I'm coming from Maxwell, so also a reason I cannot wait (although the true big jump will be multi-die GPUs like RDNA 3 and Hopper (delayed for lovelace, which will be memory bandwidth starved, so the extra 70% cuda cores will not matter, you will get maybe half that on performance, just like the 3090 has 20% more cuda cores and only 11% over the 3080 on performance before overclocked, and how the rumored 20GB 3080 Ti that was cancelled had the same number of cuda cores as the 3090, but only 4% performance over the 3080 due to having the cut down memory thereby reducing memory bandwidth).
Basically, Nvidia is at the end of what they can do with current memory to keep their cores fed (meaning a large cache would help or moving to HBM, but HBM3 isn't ready and HBM2 and HBM2E is still really expensive). I also had to rearrange my silly setup before. Running a 360MM off the GPU’s 3rd and 4th G1/4 ports doesn’t work lol.

I noticed that on my last two recent (IE January 2021) GPU purchases from Best Buy. My FE 3070 I had to pick up and I will have to pick up even a lowly PNY 1650 Super SFF GPU this friday from them for a super SFF buildout I'm currently gathering parts for for my brother who's finally upgrading from the 3770k monster tower I built for him ~8yrs ago and he wants as small and compact and quiet of a small desk unit as possible this time around.
On the other hand, I ordered an AMD 3600 from best buy for his SFF build and it is being shipped directly to my residence.
I'm glad Best Buy has at least enacted some control policies.
EVGA does the same with their queue system. That's why I'm queued up for a KP 3090 for my bud who wants two and is also queued up. The only price he has to pay is I told him i get to play around with it for a few weeks before dropping it off.

Unfortunately getting enough people on board would be nearly impossible. We've become a society addicted to the latest and greatest even to our own financial detriment. This upgrade cycle was the perfect storm on so many levels. Covid has shut down much outside luxury spending. Inside entertainment has taken on a greater importance. Mining is continuing to climb and this was a worthy cycle for GPUs on both fronts and then tariffs and increased production costs.....
Prices are climbing even for some SSDs and memory I've noticed while pricing out a few new builds for family and friends. I expect market conditions to get much worse before they get better.
I'm very glad to have scored a FE 3070 @ MSRP after dipping my toe into the FE 3090 pond of prices I would never normally pay for a GPU. I returned my 10900k + Strix Z490 and will sit and wait with my 9900k @ 5.2 + 3070 till something emerges worthy and pricing gains some sanity.
Maybe it is because of WoW patches / Nvidia drivers, but I really am not seeing much of a difference between 4k Ultra WoW w/ RT on the 3070 vs the 3090. Lows are about the same in all the same spots I pinpointed that would tank frames on the 3090. Of course highs are ~100-120 on the 3070 and 200+ on the 3090 but on my 60hz 4k display that is meaningless. -
Good results. Nice job. With Pascal, Turing and now Ampere, GPU performance is tied to temperature to the point of utter absurdity. It really sucks that clocks are limited LONG before the GPU comes anywhere remotely close to getting dangerously hot. Very stupid design defect, but intentional. Adding the extra radiator and associated volume of coolant certainly helps.
You may want to think about getting rid of the restrictive case at some point.
I got some more pieces of anodized aluminum bar stock (ordered a second kit) to roll my own chassis. I now have the CPU binning rig in a vertical arrangement with added space to hang on more crap, but with none of the restrictions of a case. Has kind of a cool mech industrial look to it. I may even swap this out on my overclocking rig and use the Primochill bench for the CPU binning rig. It will accommodate E-ATX. I really like the "open floor plan" for houses and computers. This would be perfect with the MO-RA 360 standing next to it.

The current memory price increase is off of a report of a shortage of smaller wafers for production, said to be covid related. So, we enjoyed memory process going down until that report dropped either around Thanksgiving or in December. Since then, prices started to trend up, while they were extraordinarily low leading up to that point, being able to pick up a 16GB 3200 or 3600 kit for $60-70.
So the change in direction is due to wafer supply issues for smaller size wafers. Everyone focuses on the big 300mm (12") wafers, but it is the smaller ones used for the other essential products.
Just wanted to let you know why memory changed course, part speculation and part expected supply constraints coming soon, so buying the SSD or RAM you want might be best now, or else you could have to wait awhile for the best price.

This reminds me of what I did with my Corsair 540 w/ the FE3090 and NH-D15. I ended up just taking the front, top, side glass and rear off, removing all the fans and basically a vertical open bench. This takes it to a whole new level and I really like the look of it.
I know I'm pretty much fixated on the Meshify 2 XL as my next case down the road with either dual AIOs or custom. -

Absolutely! if 2,145Mhz just touches 38-39C it’s gonna crash very very hard.
You need to run 34-35C ideally and if temps hit up to 37C it’ll reliably still hold that 2,145Mhz without throttling down if the stars are all aligned properly of course.
And then there’s actual variation in silicon quality with TU102.
I have seen some really good rare examples of a 2080Ti run 2,145Mhz at like 45C lol. it’s crazy. Not very common though.
My silicon wants to be cold, always below human body temperature of 98.6F lol.
Anyways, yes I am absolutely limited by my case. And I might just go for a test bench soon enough. Fortunately I have managed to hold 35C range on this 2080Ti inside of this case. it is a miracle. -
We both know why he got the job. Dell Alienware have had good cooperation with AMD in many years. First system builder with Threadripper + the notebook brand outside Apple that offered Radeon graphics in their gamingbooks. And I'm sure he is the middleman for this deal as well. AMD needed his contacts at Dell

Ok I am going test bench. I am so sick of case restraints. I run (3) 360MM radiators. So I think this one will do. @Mr. Fox
Gonna order this on the 25th. I was looking at some better fans for static pressure, and started thinking how stupid expensive high quality fans are. So then I decided that maybe if all of my radiators were outside of my PC, then I would enjoy a much easier time with probably the crappiest fans on earth, if I were using a test bench instead.
Any thoughts?

Yes, 100% agree with Brother John's recommendation on the flat version. But, either the traditional angled version or flat will be an improvement over the limitations of a case. I sold my original angled version to Brother @temp00876 otherwise I'd be using it for the CPU binning setup.
They have their limitations as well. You have to figure out what works best as far as where to put things. I have found that what I like best and what works for me is NOT always what is shown me in the instructions. But, that kind of thing is also what makes owning one fun. You keep tweaking things because you want to make something you're not necessarily wild about better and in the process end up liking it more. Yes, it was laying flat before. I will most likely change it again when I get tired of looking at it set up the same way after a while. It's cool because you can change it up so easily like Legos or an erector set. Now that I purchased a second kit with more spare pieces I can go nuts experimenting with it. I could easily make it wall mounted as well, with simple hooks to hang it like a picture, making it easy to unhook it and lay it flat to work on it, then hang it back on the wall again.

The assembly hardware in the kit from the second link is much sturdier. Had I known that from the beginning I would have purchased two of the second one and decided whether I preferred horizontal or vertical and built it to suit myself.
The side rails from the first kit (horizontal/flat configuration) are red and about 6 inches longer. I like these types of setup, but I like the flat lay way more. It makes it far easier for me to swap between water/phase/dice/ln2. Using it vertical would be a nightmare for me as I would risk at 90 percent chance of a condensation mishap.

I agree. Horizontal is WAY better for a system you are tinkering with.
I am probably going lay it down flat/horizontal again (which I prefer more than vertical) and use the long bars the feet are attached to to make a vertical riser at the PSU end kind of like a headboard on a bed and mount radiators and a D5 pump/res unit to that. With the extra pieces from the second kit on hand I can do a lot of experimenting to make something unique to fit my personal preference. The basic frame that the mobo is mounted to can be left alone and then any other changes made to orientation only take a few minutes, a screw driver and Allen wrench. I fact, I think I am probably going to do that this weekend. Will post some pictures when I am done tweaking the design.
At this point I am liking this setup even more than I do the Praxis Wetbench due to the ease of building everything exactly the way I want it versus the way somebody else decided I should have it.Papusan, electrosoft, Rage Set and 1 other person like this. -
Yes, please do. I'm on the fence as to if it will be big enough and what I would have to do for the res situation. Even with the praxis one can just use the tray by itself, but that leaves all those other pesky(psu-pump-res-cd-drives) parts that need a home.
Although I would be fine just would make a stand for the pump/res combo and just lay the psu on the back side of desk.
I also found that company on alibaba which lead me to another company that has the right one so going to grab that one instead. As this motherboard can't do NVLink due to it only being 3 slot spacing.Last edited: Jan 21, 2021 -

Our needs are slightly different in the respect that I am using that system primarily for CPU binning and it replaces the turdbook for doing my job. It doesn't need to be used for benching, doesn't need a lot of storage drives, optical drives or any of that. It does need to be really convenient for swapping out CPUs quick and easy without any rigmarole or nonsense. Laying flat instead of upright is ideal for swapping out a series of CPUs with minimal hassle. Working on anything in a vertical orientation is less than ideal and having the ability to not have to unplug everything and move it, turn it over on its side, then put everything back is a very compelling level of convenience.
Other than that, it only needs to be better than a laptop, which really isn't very difficult at all, LOL. I still recognize the need to own a laptop for business travel and mobility, but I am at the point now that I view them as a necessary evil and I really don't like them anymore. Even the best laptop money can buy has too many things about it that really suck.
If I were ever inclined to tinker with LN2, it seems like it would be super convenient for that because it is little more than a glorified skeleton/frame to mount the mobo and PSU. But, it is extremely unlikely that I am ever going to do that. The thought of ever going back to an enclosed case disgusts me. I find them to be a turn-off because they are so restrictive and inconvenient, like trying to have a big family in a tiny house... not great.Last edited: Jan 21, 2021 -

These setups i'm running are for convenience. Heck, before the benching station I use to just have my boards on foam. Then just swap them in and out in a matter of minutes. The bench station takes slightly longer, but not an issue. The 4930K (Siting on the slanted wet bench) setup is for testing parts, imaging drives, backup of drives to the Qnap, testing ddr3, gpus that customers deem problematic or any 4 series cpu. That wet bench is for testing all other parts as well. That's why that frame setup would be a space saver and easy to setup anywhere for testing suspect parts. The wet-bench is big and bulky and a pain if i need the space for something else. That frame setup can turn into a lean to and looks easy to move.
I roll with my 2 n 1 and am a happy camper. I'm not gaming and don't need anything super fancy for network troubleshooting on the job. The Clevo stays at home. (Was debating on letting my niece get it and just get something newer but that's up in the air at the moment.) Or I take the 2014 Macbook Pro to troubleshoot Mac customers. Or I take out the Dell E6510 for Dealer level diagnostic or parts replacement on Benz, BMW, Jags, lexus, Toyota, all ford and GM cars and so on. In reality, that E6510 is worth more than all my computers put together.
(Heck, I got an ear full from one of shops I do onsite for for getting an HP. I had to brush him off as he doesn't like anyone but Dell Business.

Yes. I have done about 20 so far. I did not want to wear out the socket or risk bending any of the pins on my expensive Z490 Dark K|NGP|N motherboard because of swapping dozens of CPUs in and out of it, so we got the least expensive Z490 mobo available for the binning (Z490M-Plus Prime). It does fine at modest overclock speeds that correspond with binning, but it doesn't have adequate VRMs, power phases and traces for anything fancy. It's a decent budget-friendly gamer-boy mobo, but if I try to push it too hard it just shuts off because it can't handle anything extreme. It's probably a good cross-platform similarity to the power and voltage handling capacity of the X170's motherboard.
Exactly. That is what attracted me to it in the beginning. It is very easy to move around, and if you don't need a lot of peripheral stuff attached to it, then it is perfect for that. I have 4 M.2 (3 NVMe and 1 SATA M.2) attached to it and nothing else other than cables for LAN, USB and displays. I love the simplicity of what it is. Just a skeleton frame to keeping the basic elements in place. The frame gives me something to strap the PSU cables to so they don't look like a rat's nest.
As I am looking at this setup this morning, I think what I am going to do is reverse everything by 180° and have the CPU closest to me (laying flat) with the GPU back plate facing outward toward the room, then have the PSU between the GPU and the vertical bars with dual 240mm rads attached to those, and D5 pump/res horizontally mounted to the bar across the top between the vertical/upright bars the radiators are mounted to. I am going to use the new EK 2080 Ti waterblock and backplate that never sold and put the hybrid parts back in the box, then sell the H100i GTX AIO. (This is a surprisingly good AIO... does a really great job of keeping the 10850K cool at 5.0GHz.) I finally sold the Hydro Copper block about a week ago, but there was zero interest in the new EKWB parts even though they were still sealed in the original packages. I would be more worried with bent pins than actually wearing it out.
That Z490M seems like a doable board with everything pretty much on board. As mentioned, doesn't need to be fancy as one is only testing low voltage against highest clock and temp for stability.
Although not sure how well that relates to notebooks though as their voltage seems to work differently than most desktop boards. Not to mention tiny heat sinks.
That's what I like about it. You can set up a few and just leave them on the side like sitting suitcases. The one you have now, can you take off the two bottom rails and lay it flat? Or there would still be no place for the PSU?

Corsair AIO were always pretty good I thought. I have the EVGA CLC 360mm All-In-One RGB LED CPU Liquid Cooler now, had the 240mm before, but it went to a customer. Works pretty good for the 4930K. I haven't put it on the 10900k yet.

There is and will never be a market for 360mm and it would be idiotic to fund that market as there is no demand for it.

The one I have now is the same one as before, just with added pieces from a second kit, so yes I can lay if flat and there is plenty of room for the PSU. Both kits include PSU brackets. The original one was designed to lay flat and it has the longer side rails so there would be room to attach a PSU next to the motherboard instead of underneath it. I only stood it upright playing around with it with the extra pieces from the second kit. The reason for buying the second one was only to get more materials to do more than the original one allowed, like having places to mount things like radiators and what not. I will post to pics of what I do with it when I am done and I think it will make more sense than trying to describe it. If it goes as intended it will be "L" shaped with the mobo on the bottom (horizontal) and the radiators mounted vertically.

I think I get what your saying. Rads will be on the L while the motherboard is laying flat. And you are able to do this because you have two slightly different kits instead of just the one.
I think I remember that as well as the famous 8GB Vram is too much for a video card. it's a total waste of Vram. No game will ever use that much memory.

That's correct, Brother @Johnksss and here is the end result. Not too bad. I don't care for the blue coolant, but that came with the kit so when it's due for a flush I will go with distilled water and biocide. I like that all of the I/O connections are right out in the open, too. Just to the left of where I sit to use it, within arm's reach. When it's time to do more CPU binning, it's right in the very front and super easy to get to without reaching over or around anything. I'm not quite sure of the best way to route the tubing from the pump to the CPU. Maybe put another elbow on the pump outlet and see if I can route it next to the return line from the GPU and cinch it with Velcro or something.

So, getting closer to grabbing a 3080. All it took was using another's work from github to setup notifications with auto-window opening and adding to cart. Have to change a couple things on my security settings to increase the speed, but nearly grabbed one of the cards from Best Buy this morning. Tells me this method is my best bet.

That should be enough to get you up and running. It is a powershell script. And you do need to run the low bandwidth setting as it is easily pulling 6-32MBps (not Mbps) with my settings for which shops to check. Also, Asus shopping website will give false positives due to how they have their site setup.
Figured I'd help those that want to help themselves or those that watch the discord or youtube alarm channels for stock. This does not checkout for you, that you still have to do. So this isn't going full bot, just using a bot to find stock. So I have a AMD 3600 due in today and a 5600x due in next Friday and a 5800x the following Tuesday all MSRP (thank goodness).
I'm doing a small build out for myself with the 5800x to compare directly with my 9900k since they're both 8/16. I'm so in tune with my 9900k I've had for ~2yrs now that it will be fun to build out a 5800x and see where it goes. I had a chance to pick up a 5900x, but
if the 10900k didn't make sense for me then the 5900x made less sense.
Depending on my brother's price ceiling, I'll probably end up returning the 3600 and using the 5600x in his SFF.. He was leaning towards a 10400f, but I nudged him towards the 3600 since they cost almost the same.
For ~$100 more, I can take him to a 5600x. I already have an Asrock B550 waiting. I had initially picked up a slightly (~$30USD) A520 MB, but even pinching pennies I couldn't stomach going with a rehashed older chipset to save $30USD so I returned that one for the B550.
Overclocking is not happening as thermals and acoustics are his #1 concern molded around performance and trying to keep everything under $1k. Right now the cost is riding that fine line with GPU prices.
I could shave $80 off the price and swap in an extra 1060 6GB I have vs the 1650 Super 4GB I ordered from BB and just cancel the pickup. -

If overclocking is of no importance and the plan is to just use it stock, and you can buy it for the same or less, then going AMD on the CPU makes perfect sense.
While it's only my personal opinion, I'd think the extra $80 would be money well spent. Slightly better performance and the added 2GB of VRAM seems like it would be worth every penny if the plan is to use that GPU for a couple of years. But, if you're short on pennies and/or only intending to use it as a temporary bridge to something better than the 1060, save the $80 toward something better.Rage Set and electrosoft like this. -

I happen to check and saw Best Buy was releasing inventory in tiers today. I never could get a 3080 in my cart, but I got a 3070 and 3090 FE in there and all the way to checkout. Didn't buy them, but glad to see them showing up. I did snag the 5600x and 5800x from them as I've been on the lookout for the 5600x the last week or so and the 5800x since early December. I saw the EVGA FTW3 3070 also pop up and promptly disappear. I never see the 6800xt's pop up and reviews are low to non-existent on the MSRP models so that doesn't bode well.ajc9988 likes this. -
Yeah, unfortunately the BB windows trying to add to my cart never made it in time. I'm shooting for the 3080 because the 3090 is too expensive for the performance, but the 3070 just isn't really enough to game some things at 4K. And the 3080 is the one they are selling to miners, etc.Mr. Fox likes this.

I definitely do not plan on taking apart my 9900k to build the 5800x. I'll end up using my old Corsair case and probably order another 280 or 360 AIO and go from there then just swap in the memory and GPU for testing. I'm hunting down a MB now that offers good OC potential (AMD relatively speaking) to see where I can take it.
As for my brothers SFF in the making, he has zero desire to overclock at all. He is a stickler for system stability, longevity and acoustics at all costs especially since he works from home. He even made me remove the sweet OC I had put in place on his 3770k years ago. The 5600x is ~$113 more (after tax on both) than the 3600 ($199 vs $299).
True, I was thinking the 1060 6GB might be a better fit for him overall and save $80, gain 2GB of extra VRAM too. He runs a 2560x1600 display. He is using a Radeon 7850 (I popped that in there when I used to run a 7970) and is ok with its GPU performance somewhat, so either card is a good upgrade over it. He wife's nephews come over and play Fortnite on his old rig. The extra 1060 I have is an EVGA SC single fan small form factor model to boot. Like many (like myself) he has the funds. He's just extremely disciplined and once he sets a price point that's that. If I had a choice and he let me, I'd build him out a 2500+ monster.

Did something similar with my kid brother over the holidays. Gave him the i5-8600K that was previously in my laptop, my friend donated a reference R9 290X, and spent $350 on the rest of the build (Z390UD, budget air cooler and case, 2x8GB 3600C18, 500GB SATA SSD, 650W PSU, Accelero III to replace the stock 290X leaf blower). Not a high-end system by any means, but more than enough for his online classes and 1080p 144Hz in eSports games like Valorant, CS:GO, and Warzone, especially with the CPU at 5GHz and GPU at 1150MHz/1550MHz. Sure beats getting fleeced on a similar performing 5500XT or 1650 Super right now given the woeful state of the GPU market.

Need some advice guys. So obviously Gentle Typhoon is the best radiator fan on the earth for good static pressure. And noctua has pretty much mastered the design of the fan with the Noctua A12x25.
The Noctua A12x25 spins 2,000RPM at 21.7dB. It offers maximum performance, but noise levels like similar to a slow fan.
I need (9) of them. But it cost $270.00. But, it’ll render my PC quiet, and I will have extreme performance at the same time.
Any thoughts? I am tempted to just pull the trigger and go for it.
I am not a fan of the brown color. But they work, and they’re quiet, and the static pressure is awesome, and that’s all that really matters for me.
Am I crazy for spending $270 on 9 fans? I suppose quiet, and performance mixed together is expensive.

Really does. It's beating the 1060/980 in modern games from what I've tested. Only problem is it uses 300W to do so. Not a problem with the Accelero III though, keeps it below 60C while being whisper quiet. Amazing GPU cooler, could probably handle a 3080/3090 with ease if they didn't have that wacky PCB. Might work on the reference 6800/6900 though as they have a more standard looking board, not that he can afford those with his allowance. I told him to upgrade to a 3060 at the end of the year when the GPU market improves and Halo Infinite is out.
