Ordered a nickel plated BartX IHS 10th gen for the X170SM-G to dial it in even more. I tested some shims last week (.2 to 1.2) and they made zero difference in temp reduction so I know there isn't a pairing pressure issue. This makes sense with the @Mr. Fox mods which removes any and all weak pairing problems but I just tested it to satisfy my own curiosity. Consider it a few hours wasted to rule out any need for a thicker IHS *IF* you're running a ZtecPC model.
It won't be here till Dec 13th to the 20th which means I probably won't get to tinkering again till after Xmas unless it comes early.

Also going to pick up another KBG40ZNV256G 256GB M.2 to go raid 0 with the stock ZtecPC 256GB default M.2 when the next coupon or 5% back hits. -
I got the full copper IHS from Rockitcool. Liquid metal between the die and IHS is the best!
I'm pretty sure that's the reason I'm able to do 5.4 GHz all core on my 10900K (under light workloads, it thermal throttles under heavy ones). It had to have opened up 2 extra bins.electrosoft, tps3443 and Papusan like this. -
Delidding and liquid metal makes all the difference in the world. I run my 11900K at 5.4Ghz all cores 24/7 now. It’s stable for me, and anything I run. I got too caught up in checking if something is able to pass an unrealistic stress test for hours on end. When in reality I only need the extra frequency for games to help accommodate 1440P, and if the system can run that frequency without crashing, or putting out errors, or low numbers for what your doing, then it’s good to go.Clamibot and electrosoft like this. -

I didn't feel like dealing with the soak, bake and potential other issues this time around. I figured I'd go nickel plated to mix it up.
I already re-delidded it during my "wth is wrong with this thing" saga, but like you I want to squeeze every bit of performance out of it.
Throttling is in the eye of the beholder.
If it doesn't throttle when doing what you want it to do then it's working as intended.

So, I’m not upgrading to 12th Gen Intel for a while. And I need more than 16GB of ram. I have been running just 2x8GB. And enough time has gone since that last fiasco with that crappy memory I bought on Newegg. So it’s time to try again for some DR sticks lol
You guys think upgrading to a dual rank 2x16GB set would be worth it for my 11900K/Z590 Dark? I keep reading and seeing the benefits.
I am considering like DDR4 3600 CL14. And I can further OC it from there. Or maybe even just 3200CL14 would be ok.
Any recommendations? -
Make sure whatever you get it has Samsung B-die for the IC. I would recommend going with a 4000 kit (or higher) because the ICs are better bin quality than the lower clocked sticks and will likely overclock higher and be more stable.
Let me know if you want another 11900K to use in your other desktop. I have a brand new boxed retail one that has never been taken out of the plastic clamshell. I have been trying to find a legitimate excuse to install it, but the 10900KF has too much performance tilted in its favor and I can't see myself doing it at this point. I'd like to have the third M.2 NVMe slot and PCIe 4.0, but I keep landing in the "doesn't really matter" camp.Ashtrix, Rage Set, pathfindercod and 3 others like this. -
The 11900K is running strong. Unfortunately I had to upgrade to a newer OS build in order to get Battlefield 2042 to work. The bad new is, this newer build version of Windows is not nearly as quick as my normal/older Windows 10 LTSC.
Anyways, this is 5.4Ghz. And it runs well for a daily frequency. The memory is beastly for single rank. I just need a dual rank set now to make it run even better.
R15 managed 2,780. With the right OS this is easily capable of much more. However, I still can’t catch my own 10850K lol. And the 10850K is at only 5.3Ghz.

Battlefield 2042 wouldn't work at all with Windows 10 LTSC 2019? Do you know exactly why?
-
Battlefield 2042 requires Windows build 1941 or later. My build was like 1803 or something like that.
-
Man that's some BS there. So now we have a required Windows build version in addition to required driver versions?
At least for the "required" driver versions thing, one can usually bypass it by clicking "skip" and giving a nice middle finger to the game. Is there no way to bypass a Windows build version requirement? I can't think of any legitimate reason the game would need that specific build or newer.Mr. Fox likes this. -
Unfortunately there is no way around the build requirement. It is a Windows Error box that pops up after opening the game with the choice of OK/Cancel. And either one will immediately force close the game to the desktop. And if you click neither, it will still force close to the desktop after about a minute of sitting there.
I was forced to install a newer LTSC. And seeing as how I already bought the game, and really wanted to play it. I didn’t have a choice. I either Play it or I don’t play it lol.
Performance is still good though. And I have more functions and features than before. I had to remove a little bloatware. But nothing too crazy. -
I have a thing for this GPU too. I wanted one of these and the Asrock Z590 Formula OC motherboard. They both match perfectly, and I thought it would make for a pretty cool build.electrosoft and Rage Set like this. -

Yeah, that's some real demonic Nazi bullcrap right there. I'd avoid buying it as matter of principle if the game demands a specific minimum version of Windows 10. That is totally bogus, unnecessary and unacceptable. There is no legitimate reason for it other than them acting like buttholes.
Did you buy it from the Micro$lop Store? So far I have only seen that on games I purchased in the Store that are Micro$lop Game Studios titles. I refuse to buy anything from the Redmond Retards through the Store now because of their overbearing control shenanigans. Gears of War is among my favorites and it was the last purchase I made from them because I won't put up with their devil-worshipping Nazi crap. It's none of their damned business what version I run it on. It is not even remotely necessary for them to do that other than the fact that they are control freak bastards. Even though I already owned GoW5, I repurchased it on Steam and run it on Windows 7. It plays better on Windows 7 and LTSC than it does on the newer piece of crap OS that the Store Whores want to force me to run it on.
I would be very cautious to not buy any GPU that would leave me stuck with the stock air cooler as the only option. It is very annoying that options are as limited as they are on the FTW3 and KP GPUs, but there are at least one or two options. I would consider it to be a regrettable error in judgment to learn after the fact that I'm stuck with nothing. I totally hate the idea of running an air cooled GPU.Last edited: Nov 25, 2021Clamibot, tps3443, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
The only GPU block option for the 6900XT Formula is by Bykski and truth be told, the last several GPU blocks I got made by them have been very good (I have yet to test the one I have for the Formula OC). The only problem is their RGB lighting systems (doesn't matter if you stick to one color). For example, the Bykski block I got for my MSI 6800 XT goes toe to toe with the likes of EKWB and of course, the EKWB version cost more. The only other difference are the VRM pads that Bykski includes. While they work, they are likely dirt cheap crap. I use my Fujipoly pads in place of the ones that are included.

Does it have an offline single-player campaign mode? Historically, I have been a fan of both COD and BF franchises, but I had to pass on the last COD because it didn't offer an offline single-player campaign. If not, then I would not consider purchasing it no matter what OS it requires. I have zero interest in any title that is strictly an online multi-player game.
Answered my own question. So, it doesn't matter to me at a personal level. It is an utterly worthless title to me, like the last COD and for the same reason. Purchasing it is pointless and I do not care if it is a success or a failure. It deserves to fail for lack of an offline single-player campaign. If it forces players to install a newer version of Windows that they don't want, the failure is even more deserved. It seems that it is also based on a tree-hugger's climate change hoax theme. So, there is strike 3. They are idiots and I hope they lose millions due to their lack of common sense.

So get his, it all started with a spoon, a toothbrush and a precision screwdriver. For the last time YES my 3090 works just fine, no, I dont feed it thermal paste. You really should stop reading reddit...
As for the Windows build and driver enforcement.
This has been in the works for a while, Horizon Zero Dawn had a Windows version enforcement on release and for some reason I was lauded as an idiot for using LTSC for my Ryzen system that I used to game on for that title. I believe they removed the windows version requirement but I dont pay attention to it anymore since the arguments became quite unprincipled.
I had better FPS than anyone with similar hardware for some reason and im sure it has absolutely nothing to do with LTSC and/or the broken driver requirement lolClamibot, Aroc, electrosoft and 2 others like this. -
I think anyone that makes an argument in favor of forcing a latest Windoze version and driver requirement is an unprincipled nitwit. You can always make recommendations and limit support for those that don't follow the recommendations, but forcing it merely establishes your business as being an outfit that is run by unprincipled control-freaks.
-
Perfectly reasonable compromise. IIRC they only forced AVX2 but then all X58 zealots were angry about it.
-
I couldn't remember the last time I had played any game. I checked Steam and it looks like my last activity was playing Quake 2 RTX back in July. I think about that same time I may have played a little bit of Crysis Remastered as well. There always seems to be something more important that I need or want to spend my time doing other than gaming.
Reciever, electrosoft, tps3443 and 2 others like this. -
That is not thermal paste. It is the Fujipoly (Optimus Cooling) 3090 KP thermal pad, that is sold by Optimus Cooling on their website. The toothbrush is for cleaning the rear PCB of the 3090 with 99% alcohol. The spoon is for cutting excess thermal pad away.
I had one installed previously, but it was for the wrong model 3090.
It’s a great investment for $38 bucks. And you will shave your memory Tjunction down to the low 50’s during a 3Dmark Stress test, with memory temps running around 30c in games. Not only that but the actual GPU temps fall with this full coverage pad. It’s the only hope for getting the 3090KP HC block performing reasonably well. Besides spending $628 with taxes on the Optimus KP waterblock, and waiting 4-5 weeks.
Guys on Reddit will spend $150 in thermal pads and their temps still suck lol.Last edited: Nov 26, 2021 -

Does dual rank really offer a better and more stable frame rate than single rank DDR4? I see videos demonstrating drastically different 0.1% lows etc.
Anyone tested this?
I ended up finally grabbing some dual rank memory 2x16GB. My first time ever buying the overpriced and overrated “Corsair Dominator Platinum DDR4”
This stuff has been out of stock for a while now. And it finally came in stock with 15% off. So, only $199.99 for 2x16GB DDR4 3600 CL14 Dominator Platinum. I figured it’s not too bad.
What sold me on it was the all black look Is really really cool when RGB is disabled. I’m curious to see the difference in dual rank primarily. But this is certainly a set more fit for the 11900K in Gear 1 mode.

Looks like DDR5 5500+ with good timings will beat all except for the best configured DDR4 kits. So what I'm gathering is if you need a great gaming rig, DDR4 is and will continue to be great for the cost but if you are after the top overclocking results, higher end DDR5 is the way to go.

I’d love to get a 11900K with an IMC capable of 4,000Mhz in Gear 1 or potentially better. I hope it turns out to be one of the 1 in 4 that can. Part of me wanted to install it to see how it worked. Part of me wanted the third NVMe functionality and the PCIe 4.0, but I just couldn't get past the fact that I was compromising so much performance with the loss of 2 cores/4 threads for those two extra nice-to-have features. I know I would also want to delid it and run it bare die, and I am not ready for a repeat performance on the risk that destroyed the last one. It still makes me sick to my stomach and I get a little bit choked up every time I think about that tragic financial loss.electrosoft, Ashtrix, Papusan and 3 others like this.

The wonders of eBay. “Sometimes” and the $261 dollar monitor.
So I was panel shopping. And as a fan of 2560x1440P 165Hz. I decided it was time to move on to IPS. My Asus ROG PG278QR has worked well for some while now. But, I’m burned out on the TN panel.
IPS was always nice with blacks and vivid colors. But IPS glow, and light bleed was always terrible on IPS panels. It distracted me. And I hated it.
So anyways, this is where Nano IPS comes in. It puts a layer between the light source, and the actual Display. It really makes for a nice picture.

And, thank you. I had a nice Thanksgiving and hope you did as well. We rolled out the carpet for one of our new transplants from California, got her an apartment, new car and job. This was about 8 months ago.
Roll to T-day and she throws a can of soda at my sister busting her lip which naturally she checked and returned the favor with a straight right and a hook, debt collected in a manner of speaking. Then they went for a round two 5 minutes later. All over a crap talking infused alcohol ridden game of Phase 10, something we do 1-2 times a year since as far back as I can remember. Trading barbs is nothing new in my family and Phase 10 to me was always a release valve to rid some of that tension.
Its concerning to me however, that essentially all the individuals involved that project that mentality online are the least able to cope with it in person. More to the point it seems anyone younger than me (at least in respect to our group) explicitly cant handle playing Phase 10 with trading barbs. I hate being "that guy" talking about how this new generation is thinned skinned to all hell but even my cousin was screaming at her mother for buying us one of those ax spray cans saying that I would be offended (as a stocking stuffer).
Now my cousin is quitting her job and distancing herself because of a problem she started as well as looking to move in with me because her mother and sister live with me as they moved here due to California not being sustainable over reasons unrelated to this forum.
All while Im still dealing with a mild case of food poisoning from a couple nights before T-day.

. I sent you a request, I'll be around here and there over the next month while completing some home study/CBTs.
The recent patch really improved a lot in the game. The gunplay is far improved over what the launch state was in and it finally feels like a Battlefield game. I've been playing since BF1942 Wake Island Demo days, so I know they will fix the game. I haven't played a single BF game that launched in perfect shape. I am continually in awe of this new game though. The graphics, atmosphere, and sheer scale are truly unreal at times. There is just so much going on at any given moment it's not surprising to me that the game is so incredibly CPU demanding. -
Yeah I played the Battlefield 1942 wake island demo too. And I especially loved the BF2 demo that really started it all for me. This game was so realistic for its time, amazing graphics, bullet drop etc. etc. They actually incorporated small bits in to the game that made it very fun. I remember the M24 was a lot of fun sniping with. And the M95 50 BMG sniper could shoot through the Heli cockpit glass. I ran a Nvidia 6600GT which was modern during this era.
BF2042 does a good job using a processor though. So far the 11900K does incredibly well on this title. One thing I do see a lot is people trying to play with 9700K’s and things like that and they’re reporting issues. Which I don’t think 8 threads is enough. I remember BFV at times with just (64) players would push full utilization across all 12 threads on my 8086K during heavy action scenes. Now we have doubled the players to 128 and people are trying to use the same processors, with drastically faster GPU’s.electrosoft and Vasudev like this. -

Could be Nvidia want a bit more from mining craze before it dies. Can't let AMD steal of their profits.
Sapphire GPRO X080 cryptomining card with Navi 22 GPU and 10GB memory leaked, costs 750 EUR
AMD board partners are actively selling GPUs to miners, except they do not disclose this information publicly to avoid complaints from their fans. Those mining cards are not listed on any manufacturers’ website, so the details on them are not always available. Luckily for us, El Chapuzas Informatico gained access to two datasheets from Sapphire, featuring GPRO X080 and X060 models.
I wonder how much of the graphics cards from Nvidia and AMD have gone directly to the miners (right out from the factories). I guess we will never know.Last edited: Nov 29, 2021 -

Nvidia knows anything with a GPU tag is going to sell, so they get that nice new GDDR6X memory chips from Micron R&D, which will allow them to hit the high speed memory and cooler GPU thanks to new 2GB G6X modules no more backplate BS.
It's going to be priced at $1800 for sure. And AIBs will rip off at $2500+, the thing is will it be an LHR or not ? if it's non-LHR then expect ebay price to be $6000, that high speed 1TB/s bandwidth and the extra 250CUDA cores will have a mining beast. Also this will have DCH only drivers ! No more Windows 7 on this. Have to live with garbage drivers as a bonus package.
But look at this one...
NVIDIA CMP 170HX card with GA100 GPU does not work with anything but crypto mining
A damn $5000 GPU which can only mine. GA100 with HBM for miners !! While we get overheating 8N and G6X add the launch disaster of MLCC caps, New World BS due to Nvidia specifications and a lot more. If they could give us TSMC 7N based GA102 on HBM they cant milk us right, G6X is actually cheaper than G6 apparently. So Nvidia got massive lower wafer cost at 8N Samsung and G6X Micron special package and rip us off LOL....
Jensen Huang knew the Compute core based Ampere is going to mint them banks esp with that high speed G6X memory back in 2020 only due to mining boom, AMD however castrated their GCN designs Radeon VII being last to be compute focused and HBM. RDNA2 is not even competitive in mining, 1/2 the hash rate for the same tier GPU vs NGreedia, however their MSRP and AIBs are far worse than team green.
BUT wait, I'm waiting for the balooney of RTX2060 with 12GB VRAM, higher than 3080Ti LOL. AND the inevitable BGA dumpster fire refresh for the Ampere along with the SUPERIPOFF launch...I don't have worse to curse Nvidia anymore, tired of it...one small credit I would give is, FE cards are actually in the hands of people like us. AMD cards are impossible to find at MSRP.
NVIDIA RTX 2060 12GB, more than a just memory upgrade
