The motherlode of Asus Z690 new BIOS drops (1003):

I'm on 901 atm on my Strix D4, so I'll give 1003 a whirl later.
Looks like the 3090ti is possibly pushed back to March.Johnksss, tps3443, Papusan and 1 other person like this. -
Got a few parts for my hobby. One of them was the first of two GTX 750 Ti (600 Nok = $67 usd). The Evga card is one of the few 750 Ti cards that have six-pin PCIe connector. Not so sure this is needed, HaHa
Looking on the web shops, some of the 750 Ti is priced at wopping +$250 usd, LOOL
The card is one of the very few from the 700 series that still have Nvidia driver support (due Maxwell arch). Maybe the reason some think they can get an arm and a leg for a decade old graphics cards.
I'm sure I'll get back the money later if I put it back on the Norwegian used market. $60 vs. $250 is more like a steal vs stupidity (those that is willing to pay scalper price for this old antique card).
And two GTX 480 cards is on the way. Same also for 2 work station cards

3090Ti is pretty silly. It’s probably gonna be twice as expensive on eBay than standard 3090’s
I’m guessing $5,000. -
electrosoft Perpetualist Matrixist
Yup, definitely but those who want the best with deep pockets will buy it without batting an eye. They will OC it just like the 3090 and dominate the benchies as always. -
Are they worth updating too?
-
My Corsair Ram shipped and should be here sometime next week is my guess, possibly by the weekend. Finally going to be home again on Sunday full time and hoping my 6200 CL36 stuff is Hynix, it should be though. -
Nice! Hoping it is SK Hynix as well. Who would have thought they would move the needle that much over Samsung.

A few users for the D4 noted the same memory issues with 1003 as 1001 so I'll hold off till it sorts itself out.
It seems these 1000+ variants also can change your SP score as the algorithm seems to have been tightened up a bit. There is also the MC update applied too.
I need to read through the Extreme and Apex results to see if it is worth the upgrade. -
Wow! Don't that look shamancy.

Yeah, I'm not quite sure how I feel about those aesthetics.
I prefer the look of the KPE 3090 at this point.
Still, the silver adds 10% to Timespy benchmarks....

I wasn't quite expecting that look. With the 4000 series sooner than later and the insane lead times for proper water blocks I'm not sure where this is going. -
Well, Samsung 8NM is at its limits. And the 3090Ti does seem senseless. It’ll be funny watching people willing to pay anything for it.
If we took the 3090 Kingpin, and the 3090Ti Kingpin. Set both to 2.1Ghz and 21.5gbps. I don’t even think there would even be a 3% difference because the 3090Ti doesn’t even have 3% more Cuda cores. Fortunately, my card has really really good memory so even 23.5gbps is stable.
I’d be curious to see how well the 3090Ti memory is. I wonder since it is twice the density, will it overclock worse or have minimal headroom.
The silver really is funky looking. Evga had to do something different though, because I guess they’d look identical side by side if that silver wasn’t there.
Evga is really slow with launching things. Like turtle time 2000 style. If the 3090Ti comes in March. When does the Ti Kingpin model launch? And when does the waterblock launch?
I feel like this card is going to be so short lived it’s not even funny. It’s gonna be great for a little while, until the RTX4070 rolls in and absolutely dominates it.Last edited: Jan 27, 2022 at 5:03 PMJohnksss and electrosoft like this. -
Not only 3090 Ti. 3090 is short lived as well
Nvidia’s greed has no limits. Just look at the notebook 3080 Ti. Castrating the TDP wasn’t enough. They couldn’t even offer a full 103 die. And they didn't bother increase base TDP from 150W upwards (just increased the disgusting mess branded as Dynamic Boost 2.0 with 10W). Yep, they want that the OEMs shall steal more of the power from the Cpu to help GPU to get some more power. It seems that the desktop gamers now get same love from Nvidia as they give the laptop jockeys. The 2.6% more Cuda cores could they given the old soon EOL 3090. The 3090 was an unnecessary SKU. They should have been 3090 Ti from the beginning (with uncapped die).
The vram will finally get proper cooling. And they can make the PCB layout much better for performance.Last edited: Jan 27, 2022 at 8:01 PMAshtrix, Clamibot, electrosoft and 3 others like this. -

Never underestimate the greed of corporations. To me, this was the slimiest of moves by Nvidia and upends the assumed hierarchy of cards and never knowing if you've shelled out the most to truly get "the best" they have to offer as previous cycles have shown.
You're absolutely right. This should have been the 3090ti from the get go.Ashtrix, Clamibot, Rage Set and 1 other person like this. -
Am looking for some 2666mhz RAM for my P870DM. I'm split between this G-Skill kit and this Kingston kit. The timings on the Kingston sticks seem a bit better but is it worth the 12 extra dollars?
Also, for those who have bent flat heatpipes, how do you do it without majorly kinking the heatpipes? Some of my plans are coming together and I might need to make some 90 degree bends
Rage Set likes this. -
I don't remember off hand but can you adjust the RAM timings/voltage on the P870DM? If you can, get the G-Skill kit and see if you can push the ram a bit. If it is all XMP profiles, then go with the Kingston kit.
-
This is the reason I pretty much only go for mid-range GPUs. There's always something better on the horizon, so I'd rather get something with a good price/performance ratio that will last me a good while and be done with it. I only went high-end for my most recent system because there were no mid-range options that could suit my needs.
The only piece of hardware I consistently go high-end on and will always pick the high-end option for is CPUs since I require the smoothness that 144 fps provides in ALL games, regardless of genre. The notion that high framerates don't matter as much in slow-paced singleplayer games is absolutely stupid, and I have no idea where that idea came from. High framerates make every game look smoother.
Of course you need a capable GPU for that as well, but the CPU matters a lot when you play games from multiple genres like I do, and some genres (like open world games) are very CPU intensive by nature.tps3443, Rage Set and electrosoft like this. -
I think the reason was probably Micron's G6X was rushed too quickly or there were no Memory ICs ready for Nvidia to make the 2GB modules VRAM cards, also that new 3070Ti with 16GB of G6X is coming without any Die change with these new IC chips from Micron. Add the whole Samsung 8N, and Ampere reference doesn't play well either. Too much power spiking and instability. People with 3090 really need a 1000W PSU minimum esp if they have an Intel processor. Remember the initial release crashes and all ?
All in all they made a lot of bad decisions..
GA102 castrated on top tier 3090 by 2.6% less CUDA cores, probably yield issues I guess.
No proper cooling for 3090 VRAM chips on backside for FE.
100% price increase for 10-15% performance vs 3080 on 3090
Reference design and Card power consumption overshooting for entire Ampere stack.
RTX3080 having castrated 10GB memory which is damn less than 1080Ti's 11GB VRAM.
RTX3080Ti a blatant rip off with castrated memory and 3080 chassis on a 3090 class silicon, 70% more price than 3080 <--- I hate this 3080Ti the most, worst card ever to exist.
Releasing 3080 with meagre 2GB+ VRAM for AIBs to rob the market completely by setting the price at $1000+
RTX3090Ti now facing BIOS+Hardware issues, 100% due to the full GA102 and high speed memory + higher base, boost clocks even if new PCB design, also the FE will run more louder and hotter thanks 450W.
Re-releasing (not yet out) the 3060 12GB and 3070 16GB with damn more VRAM than the 3080 GPU.
Trash company tbh. AMD is no saint either, horrible market supply. FE Nvidia cards at-least can be bought at some capacity. But Radeon were too much overpriced and not possible to get easily for Reference design.
There's one stupid silver lining that only is visible to a few like me, 3090 is the last GPU from Nvidia that supports Windows 7 and non DCH drivers 472.12

High end does last longer though. Think about the 2080Ti.
If you paid $1,199 for it in September 2018, and simply flashed its bios it will eat up a 3070 by a solid 20%. Mine was 30% faster than a 3070, but it was on customer water cooling.
High end will land in to the mid to high ground of the next generation.

Maybe you have the answers. I subbed a ticket to Arctic tech. But they need up to 9 days to answer back
I have found some information on the internet about the compatibility issues with the Liquid Freezer II 420 and some Motherboads. I have the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Apex. And I have ordered the said cooler (420 mm) from .... and it is on its way.
I have found two conflicting information on your web pages. One mention nothing about the ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Apex. The other information says the opposite and that says that ASUS ROG Maximus Z690 Apex have this compatibility issue.
https://support.arctic.de/lf2-lga1700
https://support.arctic.de/de/lf2-420
Maybe I have missed and one is about the Upgrade kit? But I doubt it. Both is about the MB issues. Or is this specific to the revision nr? Aka newest revision is changed and have fixed the flaws.

We have upwards of two feet of snow coming tomorrow. Otherwise, I would have that kit in hand. Shipping is delayed due to the upcoming storm. The Corsair 6200 kit comes in...I don't know. It was shipped via Fed Ex from China.

No snow here, but also no Will call either.

I really wish they would knock it off with the hybrid crap. I kind of think it's a scam to sell Hydro Copper blocks and make extra money because most EVGA fans that are into overclocking would never waste money on the hybrid abortion otherwise. Kind of like double-dipping. Just release a damned Hydro Copper GPU on day one and be done with it. It looks way better than the prior versions, but I would be taking a razor blade to that on day one and putting QDCs on barbed fittings because that chintzy hybrid setup really sucks.electrosoft, Rage Set and Papusan like this.

That is a really sweet-looking setup. I love how the frame and gauges look. And, I bet they end up charging a small fortune for it. Hopefully they will build them only with cherry-picked CPUs of the finest silicon available and not make anyone roll the dice in the silicon lottery.

The first list that says there are issues is wrong as the D4 is listed as having an issue fitting.
Pump head fits just fine on my D4 with the proper 1700 kit. It is just very close up top but no problems. It required no modifications except installing the new retention bracket included in the kit:

I fully expect this to cost ~44499.99 up to 4999.99. I wouldn't be surprised if they had it ready to go with 12900ks chips only seeing as the first (and maybe only) run of these chips are targeted to OEMs and SIs.Mr. Fox likes this.
