Haha...with respect and think of this as just us having a drink shooting pool having a friendly convo.![]()
I believe you, but to be fair you didn't and you said in a previous post that you never use silicon lottery as an excuse (in general) to stop you.
Also, you're a vet in the game so having a system in front of you and you not going all the way is doubtful. It's easy to say that I would have, could have, should have after the math and that's something that I don't see you the type being as to say that, but you did.
It's like putting a steak in front of a dogs face, he ain't going to eat just a small bite and just walk away without devouring it and I think it's safe to say that someone like @Mr. Fox would devour it too.
As for having a few people in front of me if that's ever the case I'm inspired by it. One of the things that motivated me was when you said that it was a bit of a stretch to go from 29.3 to 30K. I knew that it wasn't.
I look at ranking in categories... Overall, Graphics, Physics and Combined like it is intended to be.
Overall score ultimately is the prettiest, but there is more merit in the individual Graphics and Physics core IMO due to there being different classes and such.
In all good fun and for the sport.. cheers.
Note: I was purely focusing on Graphics score... next is dialing in the CPU. This machine is impressive.

Well, you are actually reading me all wrong. And when I mentioned @Mr. Fox it was to say...I have thrown out many high scores because my motto was...nice score, I can do better. As he seen this in direct action.
So to address your 30.4K score which at the current time is second best. My 30,771 is Number one at the moment.
So to address the cpu score. My current best is 29.1K and in the runs you seen sitting at 26.4k, that is nowhere near that. Nor is the gpu score anywhere near 30,771.
I also understand why you look at it like that. We use to do that about 10 years ago until it was found out why not too. I don't knock those who do though.
You posted a partial screenshot of a 29.3K score that was cause for confusion. While seeking a 30K score. At the time of your posting you were nowhere near that. Sorry. No one was saying you wouldn't get to it. If that was what you were thinking. That was never even on the table as a thought.
This score is the current world record holder over all laptops at the moment. Until this Nvlink/Hybrid SLI gets situated. Then they will become the world record holder.

Ah thanks for clarifying that makes sense.
As I've specified I was focusing on GPU not CPU so to point the CPU out is irrelevant at this given time to compare that to your physics score.
30451 to 30771 is not that big of a stretch, no more than the original 29.3 to breaking 30K which is far wider. Regardless, it'll be fun to push it further..
Regarding the acknowledging of the separate scores, there is value there and serves as a good point of data. If it didn't matter than graphics, physics or combined would not exist and there would only be an overall score, which IMO would be boring and not helpful to see what the system is doing..
I'm sure Frank will get wind of it somewhere.
Great fun and thanks again for clarifying. -
Yeah, we don't bench like that. Our team would go nowhere fast. For the non team member doing their own personal thing is fine. Nothing wrong with that. And what you call boring is a reality for us grinders. So different classes altogether. Why I said i don't knock your way of benching, but also you should not knock ours.
No problem
maybe, maybe not.... but I used 150/750 for that score...what did you use? -
Fair enough. To be clear though I don't bench like that neither; what I had meant is that I simply awknowledge the existence of graphics, physics and combined.
What I had meant as boring was referring to the fact that it would lack information that wouldn't be helpful for practical applications where you want to know what your cpu or you is doing.
Grinders? Team benching isn't the only type of grinding.
I surely know what grinding is trust me and have a lot of respect for the accomplishments within the benching world, in respect to their categories.
At times I go 10-12 hours straight testing, binning and benching in the shop. Benching isn't always about going for the golden egg every single time. One form of benching is not better than another form, it's just different that's all. Benching is very useful for varies testing and not always about chasing points in hwbot.
Also, I wasn't knocking anything. I'm not sure what made you think that. I have a ton of respect for this sport and the players within it. The guys at the top in the XOC class are very humble and they are respected.Rage Set likes this. -

Guys I need your help. I am dual booting W7 & W10. When ever I open 3DMark on either OS the computer shuts off. Not on 3DMark 11 or Vantage. However if I try to run Geekbench or Cinebench or Passmark performance test it shuts off. I inspected the cpu and socket pins. Nothing wrong there. Right now I'm running Memtest to see if I get any errors. Also all my programs are slow to open. I am at my wits end. I would appreciate your insight.
-
Sounds like thermal protection. If you have already checked the CPU and the socket, make sure to check your water pump. It's normally something simple.
You can also try switching to another BIOs. That board does have two BIOS, right? -
I was on 1201 and flashed to the latest 1705. Didn't help. I don't think it's the water pump because my temps are 12-14c at idle.

Is it acting up on both Windows 7 and 10? Dual booting on the same drive, or different drives? Maybe a drive going bad?? My system just did the same thing running superposition. Take all the overclocks off, and check again.JoeT44 likes this.

I have 2 512gb samsung 960 pro with an OS on each. Yes it's acting up on both 7 and 10. There is a tiny dark spot on the back of the cpu where the flat surface lays on the socket pins. It's hardly noticeable without a magnifying glass.

Is there any software free or paid that diagnoses all computer components? Like cpu, gpus drives, memory and motherboards.
-
Did you try your CPU on that other mobo that you've sent back?
Because what I'm gathering, anything that utilizes all of your cores is causing system crashes. But like @Raiderman said, try stock settings and run the benchmarks -
@JoeT44 If it just shuts off that means there is not enough power to the cpu. Start with a lower clock speed. like 4.0 ghz and watch the voltage during a test of say cinebench20. Then keep going up till it crashes. Then set the voltage up higher and see if it crashes at that same clock speed. keep going up, if nothing stabilizes, then chances are the cpu is going bad due to the burnt pad. speculations of course.

https://coderbag.com/product/quickcpu -
I don't think the software caused any harm but I am wondering about that DOA board causing a potential issue. I'm going to assume before you had used that CPU on the Alpha board, it wasn't giving you any issues. Now you are with the Apex. Do as John said, start low and slowly increase the speed and voltage. If it can't match what you were able to do before, that means the chip was damaged.

Congrats! Looking good. I don't think I'm going to join you with a water cooled RVII. I've sold mine to an employee along with my 8700K and Z370 board. He could have gotten one of my 1080 TI's for cheaper and yet he decided on the RVII.

OK. Got the Der8auer Die Frame installed. Installation was simple. Initially temperatures were horrible. I tried reseating the CPU about a dozen times and it was insanely hot (105°C core max and 111°C package temps running Cinebench at 5.0GHz). Nothing worked. I knew there had to be some element of human error for it running hotter with a bare die. Well, after I got to studying it closer to see exactly how it was made and scrutinizing everything closer to try to figure out what I did wrong, I noticed that the old nail polish I had covering the SMDs was under the area that holds the CPU down in two places. The old nail polish was applied really thick. So, I got some acetone and polished up the CPU until it was squeaky clean and all of the old nail polish was removed. I reassembled it and then applied new nail polish so it would not be in between the CPU and die frame. Now temps are great. Too bad I didn't do that first, LOL. I wasted two applications of Conductonaut, an application of Kryonaut and Phobya Nanogrease Extreme trying to reseat the CPU and figure out why it was running so hot.
I left the adhesive covers on the circular rubber bumpers. Der8auer recommends only exposing the adhesive on one of them because they are strong and may make it difficult to remove the back plate later, but I left them all on. When I took it apart to clean up the CPU it didn't fall off of the motherboard even without the adhesives exposed.
Below are some photos with before/after temps. Temps were generated with 3 back-to-back runs before and after. I like the product. It is well made and I would buy it again. Learn from my mistake and be sure there is no nail polish (or any of the original black IHS sealant) on the CPU, as it will interfere with contact by making the top of the die shorter than the top of the die frame. The top surface of the CPU die and the die frame are basically the same height (probably as a safeguard to keep you from crushing the die) and if anything pushes the CPU away from the die frame your water block or CPU heat sink will not make proper contact. It will contact the die frame instead of the CPU die.

It looks pretty awesome from the trailers I watched.
Is it online multiplayer only, or does it have a single player campaign as well?
I was really pissed that the new COD was only online multiplayer because I love the game franchise (at least I did until now). I hardly ever play online, so I won't buy games that do not have a single player campaign. -
I was fully expecting to keep it for awhile. I even ordered parts for a new custom loop with that and the 9900K, sans the GPU block (was waiting for EK's). He really wanted that RVII out of all of my GPU's in his price range. Perhaps I'll pick up another one down the road. It is a good card and I'm probably going to regret selling it knowing I didn't get to push it to its max.Raiderman likes this.

It's technically both. You can choose to ignore playing with others and solo almost all missions (can be difficult). The game is open world and I've been soloing everything myself. Eventually, I'll start playing with others. The game doesn't try to force you to play with others. Unfortunately, you must be connected to Ubisoft's servers though.
It reminds me of a modern day version of Gears of War with NPC's that aren't as stupid. -
Ditto. I've started RE2 but I was drawn to the Division 2 and I'm loving it.Raiderman likes this.

Sucks that you must play connected/online even solo. Gears of War 4 is about as awesome as a UWP filth title can ever be. I love that game, (and the original Gears of War,) so if it is as good or better than Gears of War 4 then I will probably like it.
I don't normally appreciate open world games though. I prefer a very linear game that has a structured progression through levels and one with minimal storyline. I prefer that things be primarily monopolized by non-stop shooting action. I also do not like having to solve puzzles, look for clues, "talk" with AI characters, gather materials or craft things. If I have to do that I almost immediately get turned off and I usually abandon games like that in about 30 minutes or less. Skyrim or anything in the Witcher or Fallout franchise are the epitome of what I hate in a PC game. The latest Doom and anything in the Crysis franchise are perfect examples of a game that I can play over and over again for years and never get tired of it... like Quake 2. I still love playing that game, LOL. The latest installments of Wolfenstein are also awesome, although the storyline clips tend to be borderline tedious to me at times.Last edited: Mar 30, 2019 -
You wont like Resident evil 2 then
I have not been much of a multiplayer type person for quite a while. Well, ever since the original Counter Strike, or Unreal Tournament ....lol
I like a game that challenges me intellectually a little. I like searching for clues, and finding an end result. Not so much into the blow and go, nothing but guns and grenades anymore for some reason. -
If you like the GoW series, then you will like The Division 2. Being forced to be connected is the only true knock on this game but I assume the game really opens up when you "finish" the game. Apparently, the game introduces much tougher/smarter enemies after you finish the story and you will want to team up with clan members to go into the game's Dark Zones (multiplayer PVP mixed with crazy hard NPC's).
The gameplay mechanics owe a lot to GoW's and that is probably why I enjoy the game so much. -
Nice!
Ah, was going to run around and shoot up a few true sons with ya. LOL
Online in that you connect to play. One does not have to play with others for the most part. Although the dark zone you will as they can be pretty shady in there when your not alone.
You really only have to talk to a very small hand full of people, but protecting those control zones is a pane in the a**, but they allow you to fast travel closer to your destination. You can also solo the game but i'm on my second stage of strong holds and it's starting to be a pain. LOL And some stuff seems repetitions. Lots of running all over the place. And for ever looting to get better gear....That part is tedious. All in all, it's pretty fun. level 394/17DZ at the moment.Last edited: Mar 30, 2019 -
It doesnt sound too bad then, I may try it this weekend if I get a chance. I bought the last Doom, and was very disappointed in it. Nothing like the previous in the franchise.
-
Looking great!
Also, all this game talk makes me want to game lol. It's usually about a solid 50/50 for me with gaming + benching/tuning, as gaming is a part of my real world testing, but right now it has been about 100/0 with purely testing/benching...
I always joke with my lads overseas that I talk to when tuning to get some gaming in and to use the hardware for what it was intended for haha...But I get it... -
Well, I played this game at CES and couldn't even make it past the christmas decorations.
I can drop you gear if you do, but you won't be able to use it till you are level 30.
-
Many of the games in my library were acquired only because they feature a benchmark. A couple of Tomb Raider and a few Resident Evil titles are among them. I love running the benchmarks, but I have a hard time getting into the game. Especially the Tomb Raider titles.
Well, coincidentally, that's exactly why I do not care for those types of games. I am intellectually challenged at work and get mentally exhausted sometimes. I also have to interact with people all day long. Some of them are nice, some are jerks, and lots of them are just idiots. So, when I do find time for gaming and I am in the right mood for it, I want it to be primarily run and gun, no thinking... no strategy, no problem solving... just nonstop action, mayhem and mass destruction... and not interacting with other people. I'd probably enjoy playing with the people in this thread since we have things in common and we are friends, but if I have to play with strangers and lots of them are teenage punks (or childish adults) with a potty mouth and/or seem to have a vocabulary limited to gangsta trash talk... no thank you, LOL. -

Yeah, it's really stupid. And, it's sad, too. I shudder to think about where some of those people are going to be in 5, 10 or 20 years down the road. I don't really care for MMORPG, RPG or strategy games like WoW, DOTA, Ashes of the Singularity, Diablo, Age of Empires, XCOM, etc. because I dislike the distant spectator type of map perspective (camera angle). I prefer the first-person camera view for pretty much everything. But, I have enjoyed a hand full of third-person shooter games like all of the Max Payne titles.Last edited: Mar 30, 2019

First person are my favorites also. I also dont mind 3rd person for some games like Dead Space, etc. Ive always been a first person gamer going back to UT, and counter strike, etc. That was fun multiplayer though. I was in a clan called LongDilz...lol (LD) Raiderman. They happened to be "mature" fellas too. Hard to believe that it was almost 20 years ago
-
Yes, I played a little Counter Strike and liked it... long, long time ago, LOL. I used to play a lot of UT, Quake, Far Cry, etc. on LAN with my 4 boys when they were growing up. Was a great way to spend the weekend. That was back in the day that everyone was on dial-up internet and broadband wasn't even invented. If you were filthy rich you might have a T1 line, but 56K modems were never a very good way to game online.
One franchise I really like, which is about 99% action and maybe 1% storyline... Painkiller. I have quite a few from the Painkiller franchise and I can play them for a long time and not get bored.
But, I binge play most games for about 10 or 12 hours, maybe two days in a row if I don't complete the game in one long session. Then I walk away and don't play them again for several years. The exceptions are Quake, Quake 2, Quake 4 and Crysis, Crysis 2 and Crysis 3. I bet I have played each one of those through from start to finish a dozen times. -
Oh yea, I remember renting the civic center here in town, which offered a T1 line for our "lan parties". That way we didnt have to connect to AIM, or microsoft messnger to chat. Its funny, I had to look up why we rented the T1, and not just use LAN. ..lol. I forgot. Lugging my 19" CRT, and the rest of my gear on a cart. Gaming on Windows 98, and 2000 was a chore. Back then the game was always more powerful than the graphics card. My Nvidia Riva TnT 32mb struggled to play the new titles until I upgraded to the mighty Geforce 256, and Athlon 800 t-bird.Last edited: Mar 30, 2019

Interesting, it's strange though that the OP in that thread states that a software updated microcode doesn't give him the improved overclocking advantages of the same microcode that's instead been applied at the BIOS level. I could understand that if the overclock wouldn't even post and boot the machine on a software applied microcode because it's not applied until boot time, but once a microcode is applied I'm not aware of any differences between software-applied and BIOS-applied in terms of how it affects the operation of the CPU - so that finding of his makes me doubt the solidity of his testing somewhat.
I'm surprised to hear that different microcodes affect the stability of an overclock, as it's not something I've seen and I've used 4 different microcodes on my Skylake 6700K and none of them have affected the overclock stability - but I'll go along with what you're saying because you have seen a marked improvement, but it remains a mystery why some microcodes allow for greater or lesser overclock ability.6.|THE|1|BOSS|.9 likes this.
