I've tested full HD (1920*800 resolution Lord of the Rings) with the integrated graphics solution (Radeon 3200HD), and it worked pretty good. There was moments when I noticed a hint of lagging/chopping, but not much. Most the time the video ran smoothly with no hickups or other problems. So I guess the integrated graphics card is quite capable of running full HD.![]()
PS! The video was shown on the laptops screen (no extra screens were connected to the laptop during the "test").

What is the price difference in the AMD/ATI Sa3650 w/ graphics booster and the Intel/Nvidia Xi3650? -
What OS...How much RAM do you have, and I'm assuming its DDR2-800.
what HD viewing software do you use?
Thanks -
Signature is now updated with some of the relevant info.
I used both VLC and Windows Mediaplayer when testing HD video. An avi-file was utilized as the computer have no Blueray og HD-DVD-player. -
-
Usually smaller laptops cost more, so thats pretty good that it costs the same to less. But then again really big laptops probably start going up in price too.
-
Thanks in Advance -
Hi,
I will received my french laptop next week (zm 82+ graphic booster).
So I will post my benchmarks and feedbacks here.
I d'like to know if anybody who owe on Sa3650 was able to overclock the cpu to 2,4 ghz with a zm82 or 80? if yes with overdrive?
Thanks for your feedbacks. -
the fan is running at all times. a bit noisy i think, but its not annoying at all. The silent mode works fine, and is very usefull when surfing, word etc.
Under load its noisy. But not annoying. -
I have 2 more questions:
1. Is it a big difference in fan noise when in silent mode compared to normal mode?
2. The fan is it stable or does it go low-high-low-high indefinately? -
1) Yes. You can easily hear a difference when being on normal mode and silent mode. but it will decrease the performance when going on silent mode
2) The fan is stable. Only going high when gaming. Immediatly go on normal when exiting a game.
There is a *beeep* noise coming from the left side of the notebook. Very annoying. But i dont know if its just my lappy that does it, or if it is like that on all sa3650 -
1. Sa 3650 with graphicsbooster and external tft
2. Xi 3650 with 1920x1080 resolution (300 nit brightness)
3. Xi 3650 with 1680x945 resolution (200 nit brightness)
Right now i'm leaning towards the Sa 3650 since i do game from time to time and i'm not sure about the nvidia graphic cards, it wouldn't be fun if the nvidia 9600GT broke after the warranty period. -
Hi everyone. First time poster.
I've been following XGP & this thread specifically for a while now. The information here has been very helpful & I wanted to thank everyone who has been posting new info and their personal experiences (those of you who have bought one).
I am a gamer, and I would be using the Sa 3650 as my primary gaming rig when I get one, using the notebook only to do schoolwork. I would prefer to have XP as opposed to using Vista but I believe XGP would not function unless there are drivers available for XP.
On to my question. Are there drivers available for windows XP, and has anyone taken an Sa 3650 and "upgraded" it to XP, while successfully keeping XGP's functionality? -
Hi,
Just received yesterday my Sa3650 zm82.
First impressions: finitions are ok, as everybody noticed the keyboard is light and when you press it, it bend a little. I could not test the Gbooster yet. But the IGP HD3200 is good enough for some games not bad at all.
I opened it to change the hard drive with a WD black 7200 320go. Was so hard to unscrew the hard drive box ... but succeeded.
Pb got blue screen error when using AMD overdrive, reinstalled it and then ok and blue screen again... not working on turion it seems.
The temperature of the cpu is in charge 54 to 70+ degrees (I am in Mauritius island hot wheather).
I am going to test some bench next week with a monitor. So stay in touch.

Hi albator
It would be fun to see the 3dmark06 total score, sm2 score, sm3 score and cpu score. And if you have the time the 3dmark05 and 03 scores. -
Hello all,
Here are my first bench on 3d mark2006.
You can compare with or without GB.
Enjoy.

Hey Albator76, the results looks nice. I was wondering if you have the possibility to make a short video of the notebook, just of the exterior?

Thanks for posting 3dmark06 scores.

Do anyone know any other video reviews of the sa 3650? The only ones I found was the terrible english speaking easteuropeans trying to show the system...
-
I was wondering if there are any information if a notebook with a 4870 or 4850 external graphicscard was introduced. That would be awesome.
I really like this concept but I'm not quite sure if the 3870 is worth it now with the new 4xxx mobile coming up.
Any information if the 4xxx mobile cards might fit into the graphics booster without huge modifications? -
Keep in mind pistolingo, that the XGP GPU is closer to a desktop 3870.
-
Hoy, Why is it that this XGP GPU 3870 is almost like a desktop GPU 3870? Just curious
-
The 3dmark06 scores of this External GPU are close to the 3dmark06 scores of Desktop 3870's with similar processors. Because it's external and power/heat are not as much of a concern, it should have higher clocks than a mobility 3870.
-
I'm missing more videos of the rig...
. Just found one by 3dguru playing COD http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ODyQTC10t3w , which looked good. But did not find any review of it on their site. There must be more people that have bought it now, plz submit some pictures or videos.
-
Well since you can use any XGP box with an XGP port, you just need any laptop with an XGP port and whenever the new box with the 4870s come out or xfire 4870s you can get it.
-
Anyone heard some news of FSC making a new Graphic booster with the 4870 card? and if, then when they will launch it?
-
Well I'm not sure what is really true and what isn't.
Is it a hardware or a firmware issue that you can't use the internal screen with the booster?
I heard there might be no further development through Fujitsu Siemens because the cooperation of Fuji and Siemens came to a hold or something like that. True or not?
Would be a shame if I bought the notebook but no further development was made... -
Youre mixing up a couple issues. regardless of the XGP being able to perform cross display to the laptops own LCD, any XGP from any manufacturer can be put on any laptop with the XGP port.
AMD/ATI has developed the XGP technology and anyone can use it. Dell, HP, Asus, etc.....And maybe they will when cross dislpay works and then the XGP boxes will start coming out with new cards in them, and even if ASUS makes it, it will work on the Fujitsu. And in like 4 months AMD's exlusivity rights on the XGP port and cable runs out so that Intel can get the specs and put it on their laptops, and you know how people are much more inclined to make stuff with Intel cpus.
If Cross Display is your only concern, I would not buy right now, wait until a version of any laptop comes out that specifically says it works and is tested. -
-
-
It is NOT a desktop card, not yet, maybe in the future. Its not even close to the size of a desktop card.
-
so was wondering.. is there an online website that i can buy the amilo sa 3650 and can ship it to the states? really want to get my hands on this comp, but i'm in the US...
anyone know some online retailers that can ship it to here?
-
ok, you right, the datasheets says ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3870, sorry -
Hi every one! I am a new user here and is my first post... Well I am interesting to buy this one but only problem is that in our country Greece they bring only sa 3650-L version, which is coming with ZM-80 only. I would like to know if there is big different with ZM-82 or 84... and price is about 1150 Euro with GB... Now I have Pa 1510 about more than 2 years and want to change it for gaming mode and boost performance
-
ZM80 = 32 watts TDP vs ZM82 and up = 35 watts TDP.
You would notice a difference of several seconds in things like making MP3s or video files that take a few minutes. -
I come from Denmark and it seems that it is the same here, I could only find the ZM80 version on sale, which is a shame...
In few reviews there has been they tell that the Turion processor is far behind the matchable Intel processors, and that is why I am looking for the best of them(ZM84). But where can you actually tell the difference in work on the computer between the Intel and AMD processor with comparable clock? -
the graphic-booster is on twitter: http://twitter.com/GraphicBooster here is a good document: XGP technology brief: http://ati.amd.com/technology/xgp/xgp_technology_brief.pdf
-
Guys did you read this?
Figure 5 : Cross Display Technology Enables ATI XGP Acceleration on Laptop's Display
Considering the cases where the user wants to carry the ATI XGP unit with them or has a large very high
quality display already included in their laptop, ATI will be supporting ATI Cross Display technology on
ATI XGP systems. This allows the ATI XGP unit to directly drive the laptop display (plus one external
display connected to the laptop if desired), enabling the high performance graphics output right on the
laptop without the need of an external monitor connected to the ATI XGP unit itself. This helps to
enable a truly portable, high performance capability. -
Yes saw that when the paper was published, which was after they announced it won't work at first.
Did you read the last page, where it says nothing in the paper has to be correct. -
You think that it is not true about cross Display...? hmm i am starting to wondering about it, what if there is a cable like thous one?
-
It is true, its just not supported at the moment. It is the end state goal. It was reported that an AMD representive said the cross display function would not work initially, but would early this year with a new version of XGP, so I'd assume by the end of first quarter, March there will be laptops with cross display working. Now I interpret that as meaning a hardware change, but the reporting analyst could have wirtten it wrong or misinterpreted the AMD rep, to where some driver version gets PowerXpress to work with the HD3200 IGP and all older laptop will work too. I lean towards new hardware needed so older laptops are out of luck.
This discussion was like 6 pages ago -
what you say it is a good idea to buy only Sa 3650 without GB and wait till new version of GB with cross Display? it about cost 1000euro... and i hope the slot XGP will support it with new one...
-
I cant say what is a good idea. It is a good system without cross display. I wouldnt need to play games with the laptops screen.
I dont know if the hardware changes would be to the GB or laptop side, or if a hardware change is needed at all, just the way one analyst made it seem. And the absence of cross display in any other articles kind of confirms its not a feature in the current stuff.
I waited a while to buy this laptop in the US, but gave up a couple months ago, but am still interested in it because I want a gaming rig, and if I can get a Xfire 4870 Graphics Booster then this laptop is still on the list next to a new desktop. -
@ TommyB0y. I was wondering where in the US can you get a hold of the 3650 sa? is there an online site that sells it or like a certain place? thanks for the info!
