Well, Carbon seems to be a very "high-performance game" with all its shadows and shimmery stuff. No other games at the moment, I will try to get some games tried asap.
So far so good, no complains at all! Or maybe some small ones... The Firewire connection is a small one, so if you have a bigger one that you will going to use with this notebook, you need a adapter, "Small to bigger".
When i re-installed Windows my CD'rom was sounding like it was going crazy. But when just reading/writing stuff on a CD, everything is fine :)
Tried to burn a disc today, it went all good and quite fast actually :D

About the fans, i dont even know if they are throttling up... I have just heard something for about 5 sec, then its just as quiet as before. When just surfing the webb and doing stuff on the notebook, the fans have Never throttled up, only sometimes during games. But not so you get bothered. I wouldnt complain if they always was running when i play games, because you dont notice them, belive me.
Im still working on new 3DMark results, will post when i get them (tomorrow).

    Pierre

Pierre those are some nice settings. I could not even play Most Wanted on my X700 at 1024*768 medium settings. I had to go with Low-settings, and still I had 20=25 fps.

NFS is a very demanding and not well coded game for the PC. (Console input as we say that).

Yes Pierre the reason for that creazy sound is the bad DVD/CD that F&S uses. I only have that problem with their discs. So it is no news. No need for worries.

To boot up without Windows use the Media Button on your remote control. It should boot up Power Cinema (Linux). If you have music, pictures or DVD's (in the maps Music et cetera) it will play easily.

If the notebook does nothing when you push the Media Button then try installing software for Power Cinema.

    Charlie :)

    Okey, hmm.
I tried before to hit the Media button, but then Windows booted. Maybe beacuse I dont have Power Cinema installed. I dont got a Power Cinema CD to install, just a Cyberlink Power DVD.
I have now installed the Notebook Hardware Control, and after I rebooted, it sais I have a problem on Hard Disc0; Warning! .-> S.M.A.R.T reported a problem on Hard Disc0. Iv checked in the HD Smart thing, but everythng is on OK.
Iv got new results in 3DMark03, 8166 points this time. Seems lot more "right".
    Thx

    Hey Pierre,

Yes NHC always gives such errors (also with my notebook and the Xi I tested). Nothing to worry about. I have my M1437G for 1.5 years now and it still gives that error.

Yes it is Cyberlink Power DVD which you must install. Give it a try.

Yes 8200 points now we are talking! That is a great score mate, surely just great! I had 7995 3dmark03 with the T2300, 1 GB. So your score is correct.

Laki Ge worried about your NFS Carbon benches but there is nothing to worry about. Check this post made by a forum member trying to run NFS on its 7600.

I would know that one, but I thought that you had to have it in your 'My Documents' to find it. I am not 100% sure though...

I could play Beethoven (comes standard with XP) that was in the 'My music' list... So try to paste it there.

Hmm I think you have no Power Cinema function because you have MCE. Maybe that's the reason.

Maybe you can post a screenshot?

I think that it is the best to paste all your music and such things in your default 'My Music' folder in your documents.

I still find it weird that you cannot boot with Power Cinema. I also checked www.fujitsu-siemens.com for drivers but I do not see anything like Power Cinema or Instant On.

    Right-click on the BF2142 icon. You must see something like C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1.

Behind this line add this piece: +szx 1440 +szy 900. So it will be:
    C:\Program Files\Electronic Arts\Battlefield 2142\BF2142.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 +szx 1440 +szy 900

Nice review! Those temperatures you got, were quite low. Indicates that Xi notebooks have good cooling solution (good component placement and da*n good fan) and that my x1800 runs pretty da*n hot. :) You really pushed the go7600 with Oblivion there.. :) Looked nice though.

Thanks Ronkotus, I really appreciate it. Yes indeed the temps were very low with this Xi, I was afraid that the Core Duo was going to rise to 70 degrees but it stayed really cool.

Hehe yes I really pushed the Go 7600 to it's limits but the screenshots really look beautifull I think!

Iv now tested Battlefield 2142 on this machine, and it runs great at medium settings, widescreen and 2xAA. It runs great with RAID 0 when loading games and apps. Although windows startup is a little bit slower, but I can live with that :D

Thatis the only thing that is a little slower on this notebook. The hard drive speed of 5400 RPM really slows it down. I am not sure what it is like with two drive. It would be much better if a 7200 RPM could be sold in the notebook. You can always upgrade to a 7200 RPM though, but they are quite expensive if you want a SATA interface.

    Pierre,

I had the same results with my Xi. I played at high settings and with 1 GB and it was sometimes a bit laggy (FPS and stuttering). But with your 2 GB and faster CPU it indeed should run perfect at medium settings.
    Tried Oblivion yet?

No, no oblivion yet. I will later :)
Right now Im having fun in BF 2142 ;)
I cant stop saying that this notebook is amazing, for example, when the lid is closed, it looks huge, but when open it dont look that big..
Btw, when i start Silent function, NHC tells me its running at 1,77 ghz, and i get about 10-15 mins more batterytime. Is this correct or is the Silent function not working proper? When i rightclick My Computer it says Im running at 997 mhz, and now when on battery im running on 1,32 ghz, even when i have Max Performance on the NHC settings.
    Thx

No for some reason, NHC reports the processor speed incorrectly, when in silent mode. On my notebook, it only clocks down a slight bit, from 997 MHz, to 960 MHz, or there abouts. I haven't tried to see if this increases my battery life yet.

Hmm weird I never had that problem with Silent Function. The CPU (at 1.66 Core Duo) runs at 1 GHz with Intel's Speedstep but silent function brings it down to 800 MHz.

    Charlie :)

Edit: are you guys sure that you installed the Core (2) Duo patch? Maybe that is causing the problem.

No Zero the patch I mean is the patch of Notebook Hardware Control. The USB bug of Core Duo's are solved with an update I thought... The Core 2 Duo's do not have this problem but you have a Core Duo (maybe you should search for an update).

This is the patch I ment:

    Link

You see a download there and under the download you see Intel Core Duo and Core 2 Duo patch (3 October 2006). I was mentioning that patch.

    Hope I helped you guys!

Ah yes, that update. Thanks very much for the link, Charlie. I did recently have NHC installed, but I installed it and the . NET Framework aswell. I think it is supposed to correct some errors in reading the clockspeed of the processer. Nevertheless, when I have my notebook in Silent Mode, it runs at 960 MHz in pretty much all the different monitoring programs I have tried. Pierre91, what speed does your processer run at in Silent Mode.

Merry Christmas to you all, too :).

Sorry but i have all forgot about this thread and forum during christmas :(
According to NHC my cpu speed is 1.77 ghz, but when having windows showing me the clock it runs at 987 mhz.
Just to mention im really pleased with the performance and almost everything with this laptop. Although, I dont know if all laptops have this issue, but it seems like i get a strange noise when having the "power chord" in a grounded socket. But when i dont have it running in a grounded socket all the wierd noise disapears.
Oh and by the way, i got a wireless router at christmas, and the wireless works great! And when i have a networkcable plugged in its running GB-lan, wich also is great working :)
I dont have the results of FPS in Battlefield 2142 in my head atm, but I will look it up later.

Oh and the Bluetooth connection is also a very nice thing! Tried it out a bit yesterday, sending some larger files from my mobilephone, and with no probs it was sending :) I did also have the ability to control the computer with my phone wich was used as a "mouse".

Are you sure the noise isn't coming from the subwoofer. Some people who have Xi 1546 models had this problem. I am not sure it they managed to fix it, but it might just be the subwoofer. I'm not sure if it only happened on AC power, though.

Can you pin point where about the noise is coming from the notebook? It may that you have a slightly defective hard drive or something.

Hello and sorry for slight offtopic reply but i had to comment on this one. Last year i bought Fujitsu Amilo M3438G with 2x100GB 5400 RPM hard drives and i set them up as Raid 0 for increased performance. Performance gain was not spectacular but system definitely felt snappier in everyday work.

But my notebook came with a little utility named ViaRaid (raid_tool.exe) which allowed me to configure hard disks in Raid without having to reinstall Windows. Very simple to use, it converted 2 drives to Raid 0 array in about 2 hours (i had a fresh system back then with about 10-15 GB of used space). After reboot i had to doubleclick on a small .bat file which allowed Windows to see full capacity of disk and that was it !
I hope someone else will find this little utility usefull since you don't have to go through tedious process of installing Windows and drivers/applications when you decide to go Raid :)

The noise is not coming from the computer, its coming from the stereoamplifier.
And its only noticible when i have the AC in a ground socket, but when I have it in a non-ground socket I dont get any wierd noises.
Some ppl say its because the laptops AC is not able to ground the computer, it might be that way.

    Edit:
Notebook Solutions; I just read through your review and I noticed that you had your CPU at 47 degrees 2 mins after stop playing Oblivion. My CPU is at 50-52 idle, did you have some sort of program that runs the fan faster or something?
And what about that HD Tune, is it some sort of bench program?

I would imagine that the notebook is grounded, because it comes with a three-pin plug. Otherwise, any old charge in the notebook can disrupt the operation of the machine. Also, if any noise was the cause of non-earthing, then it would probably be on battery power, and not the AC, because it would, in theory, ground the notebook.

I know your other question is directed to Notebook Solutions, however, I think I know why that is the case. In two minutes, the processor doesn't suddenly increase in temperature. It takes a while to do that. The cooling system decides when and what speed the fans should be set to. So, the more time you play the game, the warmer the processor becomes, and the faster the fan spins. Eventually, they reach a point where the temperature and fan speed are proportional, and no increase in either will take place, providing off course, no serious load is put onto the graphics card. I find this temperature to around 53/54 C on my notebook to.

Hi all,in first place sorry for my bad english.I have my amilo xi 1526 core 2 duo T7200 one week ago.Im concerned about Temperature. With AC on this are my temps

    idle: CPU processor:49?
    GPU ambient 47?
    Core 44?

Whe i playin games for example red orchesta fps the temperatures becomes too high with AC on

    CPU processor:72
    GPU ambient 57?
    Core 67?

With only batteries work this temps are:

    CPU processor:60?
    GPU ambient 55?
    Core 61?

Is this normal? my graphic cards is nvidia go 7600.
in days ill buy taga base coole to try low this overheat

    Thanks in advance :)

JJavier, the temperatures on your notebook seem okay. The processor should idel at around 45 to 50 C. Its normal on the Xi 1526 and Xi 1546. However, the temperature on the games, when on AC power, looks a little bit high. Not the graphics card, because that seems okay, but the processor is a little high. I wouldn't worry about it, as its nothing that can damage it, but its probably just because its a bit restricted in terms of airflow. The notebook cooler you plan on purchasing, should get both the temperature of the processor and graphics card down a bit. Also, just to confirm these temperatures, try a couple of other temperature monitoring tools.

The computer will probably crash at some point around 90 C or maybe slightly less. Everest is quite acurate, but maybe you should also try Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool. That gives you quite acurate temperatures, but they will probably be the same as Everest.

Those are actually high temperatures. My temperatures were 60* for CPU max after playing Oblivion for 2 hours. My hard drive was around 44* after 3 hours benching, restarting the notebook a couple of times et cetera.

    Charlie :)

Yes HDTune is a benchmark for hard drives. It also measures temperatures of HD.

    Hello my Swedish friend :)

Just tried the remote with VLC, with no good results :(
I could only shut of the sound or put it on, and raise/de-raise the volume.
    Btw, im also Swedish :)

43 degrees for hard drive and 44 and 45 degrees for the CPU is great. Nothing to worry about.

Well I would advice installing new drivers but it seems that you have already tried that. Maybe it is a bug?

But you say that you have found this problem all over the web, maybe it is just a bug of the producer?

    Good luck.
