Ok guys, Chaz and I and a couple of others have hooked up on the CS:S servers and kicked some major arse. However, Valve's buddylist system is very poorly implemented. So, this thread will be dedicated for us to hook up whenever we want to get a game. We usually put {NBR} tag in front of our names, it doesn't matter what style font or brackets you want. Feel free to ask questions about the game too, hardware and software wise.
See you all in the games!

sounds sweet! ill have to look for the NBR pwnz0rz next time im in a game
-
what servers and maps do you guys normally play?? I haven't played in a loooong time but this might have me playing every now and then!!
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Great idea. I've never been able to get the friend's list to work in Steam either.
Anytime someone wants to hook up, post the server's IP and hopefully a couple of people will hop on. Be sure to edit the IP out of your post after you finish playing on the server.
Normally, my name is [NBR]Chaz_007. Looks like everyone likes the {} better, so that's what I'll use from now on. -
aww sweet. come to this server: 70.84.38.172:27015 (add it to your favourites in servers)
i play there, my name will be 420|Foosa. see ya there and pwn ya later! -
You could jump on some aussie servers if you wanted. Then I could actually play with decent latency.
-
Hey foosa I hung around that 24/7 Office place for awhile, but didn't see you. What times are you on usually (ET)?
-
I will game for awhile, I'll be on right now. Not sure of a server yet. If anyone wants to play, post a server suggestion here or PM me!
EDIT: I'm on a team deathmatch server. No waiting! 66.55.159.53:27015 -
what is note book review server ip?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Well, we don't have our own server for CS:S, so we just find one, then post the IP here and everyone joins.
-
Chaz! Come to 66.55.159.53:27015, we'll get some team deathmatch in!

ooo nice sig razer diamonbakcs pwn
-
Haha thanks man. I actually couldn't find a userbar that was green, so I had to download it and change the colors with Photoshop. No big deal though, it looks good, and I can't wait to see the green in the one I ordered. I just ordered mine the other day, waiting on it to get here. I love them though, a few of my friends have them.
-
Lol yeah, we'll play on a standard server next time so it's not so hectic. Deathmatch games don't facilitate teamwork very well.
-
metalneverdies Notebook Evangelist
lol yea and that server had bad fps on it for some reason... i got like 20-40 and with every thing maxed out and masive resolution i can get 60 constant so it was sorta wierd and i was laggin alot but it was still fun -
well, why doesnt my steam work?
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
I can't log onto Steam right now either. They must be having some issue with their servers (go figure).
-
lawl, hope its up... Ir eally wanna play gmod/css.
-
Steam's forum stated that there is a power outage in Seattle where their servers are located. No CSS today :\
-
Steams back for people, excluding me but 2 of my friends have it back!
-
Nope doesn't work for me. Oh well.
-
Not working for me still. Hope I didn't get hijacked
-
MIne wasn't working all yesterday but started working again this morning.

I've had Half-Life 2 GOTY edition sitting around for months now. I haven't played it for ages and I've never even tried Counter-Strike. The reason why I haven't played Counter-Strike is because Half-Life 2 gives me the worst motion sickness I've ever experienced out of all the games I've played. This little NBR thing you have going on here is giving me some incentive to give Coounter-Strike a chance.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Have you figured out why? Counter-Strike is far faster (with regards to reaction time and how fast you have to move, shoot, react) than HL2 so if that is what causes your motion sickness, be warned. -
Best Foot Forward Notebook Evangelist
Well I'm installing Counter-Strike now so i'll tell you how things go. I'm not entirely sure why I get motion sickness so bad with HL2, but I think its related to the field of vision and the way Freeman moves-the constant 'head-bop' motion and ,what feels to me, like running on ice all the time is definitely concerned. This must be what happens when you play consoles for all your life and suddenly switch to PC
-
Same thing here. HL2, especially the single player, gives me the worst motion sickness after just an hour. CS:S on the other hand, I have no problems with whatsoever. Tell us how it went
-
Best Foot Forward Notebook Evangelist
Errr how do you get the offline play to work? I want to play by myself first, get rid of some rust before I get online with the bad boys. I'll probably be online mid-week when I've finished for the term.
Edit: nevermind worked it out.
Thankfully I'm not getting motion sickness playing Counter-Strike, but I am getting my arse kicked over and over
-
That's good to hear! Not the arse kicking part, the motion sickness issue. I suspect it is because of the "jerkiness" of the gameplay in HL2. In CS, the physics are realistic unless changed by the server admin. In HL2, you have a suit which allows you to run at what feels 30mph, possibly faster with bunny hopping, and instantly change direction. Also, there are a lot of explosions that create wacky physics too. This all makes for gameplay that is way too hectic and confusion to your brain after awhile.
-
Might i suggest using X-Fire?
Works a lot better than steam friends and it works with like every other game too.
I'm on- same nickname. -

I've brushed up on my skills now and had a quick blast online. I'm actually not that bad-I'm probably around mid-table in terms of kill to deaths. So what servers do you guys play on?
-
Well I played on this one CS_crackhouse server---don't laugh, it's actually pretty fun---and got roughly a 1500/750 kill death ratio recently. Yeah, it was a deathmatch server, meaning no waiting. Still took like 8 hours though lol.
-
I'll see about playing you guys in about a week or so. Right now I'm on wlan and in england so my pings pretty high but from next week I'll be home instead of at uni so I'll connect my laptop straight to the router.
-
Best Foot Forward Notebook Evangelist
1500/700!?!? Goodness me.
Wizard of Oz: what uni you at? I'm probably going to London next year when I start my degree. -
Is there a particular site you can sign up to for free that monitors your gameplay statistics and automatically monitors which servers you're playing in, and gives you a ranking in a list of other players which use the site.
I tired HL2 Stats X, but it was pretty useless and game me no information on my profile whatsoever. -
Awesome idea guys, I haven't played CS:S in a while (been on a bf2142 kick for a while) but I might have to look you guys up once in a while. Do you mind if I pop NBR in front of my name or do you guys have sort of little clan going on (hey, I'm proud of my NBR ties, haha)? I'll check back later.
-
I am so in! {NBR}Aero.
Give me a server to chill in -
Btw who knew this: http://www.panamix.net/Desktop/lmao-at-the-bluetooth-headset.bmp
Terrorists in CS: S wear bluetooth headsets? lol! -

-
WOW Detailed Screenshot. I've seen that before
That Terrorist looks like an amateur riffle user

Yeah, they do. I play at the highest settings with a 1280x1024 resolution in CS:S, along with 2X AA and 8X AF so I can see that stuff pretty easily.
-
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
8X AF doesnt kill performance?
Anyways today I played in this real cool map, its a huge kitchen! And your a small player...so cool! -
I play with 8Xaf and mine works perfect. I got an x1600 as well so I'm assuming it should be fine for you. Also not sure how much difference it might make but you got a gigs more ram than me so that might make more of a difference.
I think I've played that map too, but on 1.6 not in source. It is really cool. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Not in this game. Source games can really benefit from AA/AF. I would take AF over AA for CS:S. Fortunately my card has enough power to do both and still get perfectly playable framerates.
