Lmao, you know, I was all psyched when I saw this thread and I was ready to go kick some ass. Then I started CS:S up and decided to "warm up" before I played with you guys. I join a server and after 5 minutes of watching conversations like "Dude, your a gay n00b, stop camping" "im not camping you n00bz" "ill kick you, i admin" "n00bz" I began to remember why I stopped playing. Then at one point someone decided to turn on a wall hack and was blatantly killing people as soon as the round started (the round would start and like half a dozen people on my team would die at once, being killed by one person). Lmao, but maybe it was just a bad server? I still feel like playing, anyone up for a game? You can catch me on xfire (my name is "spookyu") if your up.

You definitely went on a bad server spookyu. None of the servers I play on are like that; usually they are very well controlled - no hacks, AWP/Auto, porn sprays (those are the absolute worst).

I should be able to go on a bit later; anyone up for a game? I'll post an IP here and hopefully we'll have a good match.

That's no fun, but we'll definitely have to find a time to play once you find a faster connection.

Alright guys, grab your mics and headphones. Here's the IP, hope to see you there:
    .............

Edit: I finished playing, didn't see anyone there but maybe next time. I did pretty good though.

I'm sorry, I forgot to check back and I got distracted cleaning up some of my paintball stuff. Ohh that reminds me, I CANT get my friggin mic to work. I can record my voice and all just fine using voice recorder but for some reason no one can hear me in CS:S.

Make sure the volume is set all the way up on the mic port itself. You should be able to do this through the Control Panel.

Also, in CS:S, open up Options and do the following (see attached). Let me know if that helps.

I know, I tried all that Chaz. I was using skype no problem yesterday but I go in to CS:S or BF2 and I try the mic test on both games and it DOESNT work. I'm getting a little tweeked about this, haha.

Ha, I'll let you guys find a server, I have the most horrible luck finding good servers. Can I request CS_Crackhouse though? That is a FUN map. Pick up a copy Jess, join the fun, and gaming at 2am is ALWAYS the best plan in case you were wondering (of course at this point you need to have downed something containing large amounts caffeine.

Haha, responsibility is user defined jess, I'll leave you hanging with that. Good couple of games there chaz and gator, I'm shipping out for the night, later. Since I got my headset working again that has REALLY helped, but too many people talking at once, I should setup a team speak server.

Yes, you can use mics in Counter-Strike: Source, and without the use of extra software - it simply works. Having a mic really does help coordinate the team, and it does make for a more engaging game.

We hope to see you there Tim.

I am considering buying CS:S (although I hate that you cannot take any items in the map, and engine supports it...), but would really like to see you guys fighting! :)
Do you have any recommended place do download it? Cheapest? Do I have to install Steam in all cases? I hate it BTW. What is best to buy? Only source, or all that fancy stuff on steampowered.com? Just asking.

Anyway - I have two suggestions:

    1. XFire - servers, times all that important online stuff is visible to your friends (you can even make a sig here on NBR saying on what server you are playing)

    2. Clan forum hosting on our friend site www.thegamebooks.com. I did a thread here on NBR and NBR FEAR Combat clan is already hosted on www.thegamebooks.com, so if you want you can go there and make a NBR CS:S clan forum. It is free anyway.

    Cheers,

    Ivan

Yeah, a few people here on the forum have been playing F.E.A.R. combat and using xfire with some success, if anyone wants to catch me on xfire my username is "spookyu".

Ikovac: In response to your questions, yeah you have to use steam in any case. I used to hate it but honestly I LOVE it now, and wished every game was this easy to get. Pretty much all you have to do is punch in your credit card number, wait a few minutes for the game to download (times may differ depending on your connection speed) and you are good to go. You don't have to buy any package or anything but there are many games I would suggest buying from them (half life 2 among others) so you could consider that.

Hey, just an idea that I feel I need to throw out there is a dedicated server for us at NBR. My old gaming rig is sitting here idle at the moment with nothing to do and it is on pretty much 24/7, I could setup a dedicated server if it sounds like a good idea to you guys. I know a dedicated server running on linux would probably be a better option but me and linux sort of don't mix (the reaction is comparable to when you mix sodium and water).

Hey spookyu - thanks - I will download CS:S only since HL2 and other multiplayer games aren't so popular, but again - 10 bucks more is a small price for the whole package. Hm. CS:S + Day of the defeat + HL2 deathmach for 29.99.

Please do set this NBR dedicated if you have it on and connected all the time. Why not? PING is generally good so far for me even over wireless and with USA servers. Another reason for me to join CS:S community. And don't forget free clan forums tha I can help you with.

Spookyu is already on my xfire friends list. But we haven't played together yet. I have problems with my fear combat - uninstalled the thing because of constant invalid game assets error. I will try to reinstall it.

    Cheers,

    Ivan

Hey, I have the server running, does anyone want to connect to 72.92.106.110 to make sure it works (I have to use to internal IP to connect so I'm not sure if I set this up right). The name of the server is "Notebookreview.com {NBR}". I haven't bothered configuring anything I'm just making sure everything is working, but any suggestions on how you guys want this setup or do you want me not to really touch anything?

Edit: Yeah, its not working right now, I need to do some stupid HLDSUpdatetool thing and I'm not in the best of moods right now so is it cool with you guys if I fix this later?

Edit2: I also wanted to give you a little info on what sort of rig this server will be running on. Its just an old HP Pavilion a340n which I put a gig of ram into and an old X700Pro, its my old gaming machine. It should still be able to keep up with a 24 player server though, maybe more...I think.

Awesome!! But hey I'm looking at your server and it has a high (700+) latency? It might be my connection right now because I'm wireless and far from a router.

You see it!? Wooo! Forget the latency its good that you actually see the **** thing (I've been trying to get people connected for the past hour). Alright now on to the latency problem, and I can tell you what that is, I have bitcomet running and I'm downloading sommething that always DESTROYS my connection speed so I'll turn it off for you guys (is it alright if I shut down the server once in a while in the morning for a few hours so I can get my downloads done?). So just to recap the IP is 72.92.106.110 and the name is "Notebookreview.com {NBR}". As a side note: everything is still stock server configuration and the map rotation is just all of the stock CS:S maps, so if you have any requests or suggestions shoot me a line. Now I just need to learn all the remote console commands so I can manage this thing in game, haha.
