A whole thread just so OP can feel good about himself playing games on high with a GPU from 2011.

Not much better, 30-35fps on stock clocks in that area.

Why add 1080 screen? It's stock. What laptop are you looking at by the way, NP9370 or NP9170?

lol I was talking about the AW M17x, no wonder we were getting different numbers! I am looking into the NP9370 as well; it's a really great deal, especially when you go with the dual 7970ms. If the 8970m is a decent card, I may get a Sager again. I like that it's a 17" instead of 18" like the M18x too.

Oh lol. I was gonna say. I like Alienware, but they cost a lot more, their warranty costs a lot more (although it's pretty decent with in home service if need that). Their build quality is usually a little better than Clevo in general, but yeah adding any extras costs a fortune. I just don't like all the extra lighting.

I totally understand. If I do go that route, I will skimp on any extras except the 1080 screen then source my own ram, ssd, etc. I used to dislike the styling, but they've grown on me for some reason. It helps that I work out of the home, too. I'd probably get laughed out of the office if I brought a nebula red M17x into a meeting at my company lol.

    It happens for the best.

People have different tastes. I didn't like the MSI's before, but their rework made them attractive and voila I'm on one.

Alienware is (personally) not flashy but bulky. Just next to my MSI it looks like a beast man, haha I'll so sad they discounted the M15x

They do look bulky, even if they are actually thinner than most gaming laptops their size. Their chassis are blocky and don't taper on the sides like other brands do. And yeah, they definitely shouldn't have dropped the M15x!. If I called the shots, they would discontinue the M18x, make the M17x available with crossfire and sli, then bring the M15x back. There aren't enough 15" gaming laptops on the market.

MSI has really improved their styling lately, especially on their higher-end models. Plus, the 16F3 is the cheapest way to get a 680m. Such a great deal :D

Yeah, MSI and Clevo are the bargain laptops for 680m, and both are pretty decent build quality with good cooling and average everything else.

lol x, you need to get your prescription changed. Look at the mountains and water in the background, that's called DoF :D

edit: In pictures, the game looks decent with postfx turned off, but in actual gameplay it looks awful. There's more jaggies and screen tearing (not sure why about the screen tearing) but basically everything in the distance looks really bad. The mountains lack detail and look really bland, plus the aliasing is way worse. Framerates increased a little, but it's definitely not worth it imo. If I were playing on low settings, then maybe it would be worth it, but with everything else set to ultra it just makes anything at a distance look bad.

I tried using 32xCSAA in the NVidia Control panel, 8x supersample AA transparency with The Witcher 2.. I just wanted to see how far FPS could go (down).. Though this is how I play now.

Oh man, I wish we had something like that in the AMD Catalyst Control Center.

But I don't understand, why do you have CSAA and MSAA both enabled? Isn't CSAA supposed to be a replacement for MSAA with less performance cost?

TW2 in game AA option is disabled.

Same setting (32xCSAA), totally maxed out the NVidia Control panel. I have SSAO overlapping with NCP and TW2. Always V-Sync ON.

Need a desktop (lol), NOT! ..16xCSAA brings back everything to 60 FPS..

I have my doubts that the CSAA is actually working at that many samples, given the low hit to the framerate.

Take 1080p screenshots in identical locations, with it on and off, if you really want us to compare.

Games can still show jaggies in 1080p, though they're barely noticeable in that first picture. I'd have to see it in full screen to really see them.

It's possible 15.6" laptops have enough pixel density to be less apparent

I see more jaggies on trees. I see the difference on the vegetation too. My aim is to get the most pleasing to the eye kind of graphics and maintaining 55-60 FPS with V-sync ON. TW2 here is at ultra minus ubersampling, 1080p. The in-game AA option of TW2 is bad looking, it dries the image and actually makes it worse. So I used the NVidia Control panel. I also don't use "Bloom", I don't like this effect. Also, the vegetation looks a little duller without it.

With TW2 AA option enabled. Image looks dry. I don't wear glasses and in my line of work (Aviation) I deal daily measurements of .001-.010" measurements. But to each their own.

The Witcher 2's AA option makes Gerralt's armor dull, it's obvious at a bigger image, reason I don't use it.

1st pic planks on the left lost detail using TW2 AA, 2nd image looks really dry compared to using NVidia CSAA.

Good lord people! Just play the game. The difference is nearly unnoticeable unless you concentrate and stress over it. Game on. Life is short.

Although it is good to see a 1.5 year old video card is still going strong with recent games. I'm hoping to get 2 years out of my 680m and it's been a solid 6 months since I bought it, and don't see anything to slow it down yet. :)

    QFT.
I'm with my humble GF240m got pretty good FPS in FC3 demo and some other recent games (except for TW2, talk about bad console port, there's a game made for PC and is runs worse than console port), I can't imagine you people are having any problems.

    What do you exactly?

OMG, who's is stressing here, I'm not. I'm playing my games no problem. But I have preference in terms of gfx, that's all. You make it sound that I'm getting all stressed here making a big deal of nothing? You guys as always takes me wrong, as always. I'm totally not stressed here. I play my games at the setting I want. I don't know what you guys are trying to prove?..

Yeah, I'm a structures tech, mechanic, sheetmetal in Aviation. I did U.S Homeland defence aircraft installing (structural provisions first, then install) FLIR, RADAR, Air operable door, launchers, State of the art Avionics system installs etc.. Turning Aircraft to maritime surveilance, border patrol etc.. Did Japan, Iceland, Sweden, Norway, U.S., Kenya, Australia, Jamaica etc..

I bought the 680M so I could play with the gfx. I prefer that's all.

You just said you wear glasses, so you obviously don't have 20/20. Look at the branch above and to the left of Geralt's head. You see those straight lines? There is obvious aliasing there. Same thing on the tree trunk to the right of that branch, there is aliasing and jagged straight lines. Now look at the Foliage right next to that tree trunk. There's aliasing there, too.

Yeah that card is pretty awesome even nowadays, just curious are your cards OCed? I appologize if you mentioned it somewhere and i overlooked it TL;DR. Oh and btw by disabling the overlay you gain some FPS too not much but 1-5fps could be in there

You mean the FPS FRAPS overlay? I doubt it. If you did a benchmark with it on or off it would be identical, at least I've noticed that from the benching I've done in the past.

just a little update I underclocked to a overclocked 5870m (300/400) and I could run all high shadows post fx low 1080p at 30 fps average.

how old is the 5870m now?

Am I the only one who proves his/her point?

Which one has supersample 24x AA and which one does not...should be easy for you guys/girls to get right as it has a post right in front that can be examined very easily. shots are taken in 1080p. 50 bucks says you have no clue which is full AA and which has none.
