Hi! Which program do you use for oc´ing? I use Rivatuner (i have the 169.04 XP x86 drivers installed)...it reads my non-oc´ed temps right, but when i oc my 8700m gt, the temps read are different (higher) from those i set (e.g. 725 core clock but in the temps monitor it reads about 780)...
Also, i´ve read that it´s possible to oc the 8700gt to 800core/1000mem, with it never getting past 60c...but mine reaches 62/63 with not so high oc´s, so....is rivatuner a reliable means of reading temps (my hdd has the same reading as in HDTune and the cpu as in RMClock but the gpu temp is different using ATITool..) ?

The Forerunner Notebook Virtuoso
Rivatuner has a known problem of reading the clocks in the hardware monitor incorrectly. Basically whatever clock you set it to is the clock its on. The core is off by 40 and becomes off by more and more over time. The memory is usually correct but off by a few sometimes.

is there any other programs to overcocl 8600 because i've heard nothing but criticism's about rivatuner

omg I just installed thr 169.04 from the 158.48 and holy crap, every one of my games fps increased drastically! eg.
UT3 (MAX 1280x800) :
158.45- 30 fps average
169.04 - 40-50 fps
Crysis (HIgh, 1280x800)
158.45- 15-25 fps
169.04- 20-40 fps
Bioshock (MAX 1280x800)
158.45- 20-35fps
169.04- 30-50 fps
as u can see these drivers kick ass! -
you have any overclocking done...coz if love to know what youve done to get crysis and bioshock running at those fps and settings
cheers -

kewl thx.

idling temp is the temp of your gpu when your doing nothing or lightweight stuff such as browsing the net.
my idle temp as recorded by rivatuner is 58 C.
during gaming (OC'ed) its 85 C
your temp of 70 C seems right if your gaming, but I dont think idle temp should be that at all -
when i tried to oc to the near 8700m as directed of adolfotregosa (600/848), it goes to 100 and up -
maybe rivatuner isnt measuring your temp correctly or your notebooks heat dissipation system isn't properly put together (heat sinks blocked or not fitted properly, dust,...you get the idea)
have you tried installing ntune and using its built in monitor? -

I have hear that Asus's G1s runs hotter than the Vostro with DDR2 but I am definitely not expect it to go 100 and up, that insane, you can cook egg/boil water on that beast. -
LOL 100+ when it's oc'ed to the near specs of 8700m..never trying that again -
It is not manual down clocking, Powermizer automatically switch the frequency when a game is launched, or an application that need GPU power is launched. It does it fast enough that I don't think you can even noticed the change, that's why I had spent sometime trying to get the Nvidia driver to work again with powermizer enabled, so I can reduce heat when I don't need it, but still have my power when running 3D games. -
Are these over-clockable? I'm asking because I just tried to over-clock them with nTune, and it allowed me to, but I've heard here that the 16*.** drivers are not over-clockable.

I played Crysis with this clock speed and it's stable on my Asus G1S:
