Depends on the screen really, for instance, my Dell M1710 has a 1920x1200 native res and when I scale it down, it looks real blurry and messy. With my Alienware M9750 which also has a 1920x1200 res screen, it looks much better and sharper when it scales down compared to the M1710.
-
are you talking about gaming as well? honestly, i've used lots of computers with native resolutions that were much higher than the resolution of a game i would be playing on that computer/monitor, and i never once complained/noticed any type of "blur." nor have i ever felt the need to purchase a 19'' external monitor for a laptop with a native res of 1920x1200.
that is a really stupid idea by the way. i hope you were joking, Satyr, when you said you would buy an external monitor and carry it around with you... -
i notice a blur as well
-
sorry, have to share..
a PM from Satyr reads:
excuse me, what? -
You guys need to get high, and be one with the blurr lol
-
Satyr seems to have beat everyone there
-
Mod Close this thread already its getting pointless.
-
it's been pointless..
-
but it was my best thread ever.. wel apart from this 1 http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=261669 which was brilliant
and this http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=254163 -
what is your concern again?
-
the concern was about blury LCD screen running on non native res. I am however afraid this epic tale of the blur has reached its end.
-
lol satyrion. ur pretty funny. i do the same kind of stuff as you but i don't make topics i just reply to people
http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?p=3526409 -
I would say it is of course a sharper picture at native res than a lower res. Say you switch from 1920x1200 to 1680x1050 the interpolation isn´t that muc noticable. It is more noticable though going from 1920x1200 to 1280x800. Also depends on the screen itself.
-
Running a game at lower than native resolution is quite bad in my opinion. Sure, it softens jaggies, but everything becomes mushy.
Every since i've gotten a 1680x1050 22" monitor, i've been tempted to switch it out with the other 1280x1024 17" monitor just to run games faster and crisper. 1280x768 on a 1680x1050 monitor is so blurry. -
Well 1280X768 is gonna look wonky at any res. It's not a matching aspect ratio to any native screen res.
-
Looks am not the only 1 anymore who hates the blur
Ohh and sirmetman he said 1280x1024. -
Nice try though.
-
Blurriness depends on the screen, what resolution you running it on, the game and you. Bioshock/UT3 scales very well. Oblivion was painful to run at 1280x800 vs 1440x900. Some don't notice it, some do.
-
CRT screens is the future and the way to go than
-
The Witcher scaled horribly, whereas Mass Effect scaled great. It just varies by title.
-
Satyrion, you scare me. I think the same way about screen resolution and I have made a few posts about this also. I refuse to scale so we are in the same boat. Keep fighting the fight!
Eurocom offers the 5793 with WXGA 1440x900 with the 8800m GTX. -

Dell now offers dual 8800GTX's in they M1730?
That should handle 1920 x 1200. -
The GTX in SLI is very expensive and in like 6 months they r useless and so is the laptop for the newer games and than u gotta get a new 1 with better graphic cards if u wanna play native res.
-
lol, that is the most rediculous statement I have seen in a while. A laptop with dual 8800M GTXes will most definitely not be useless in 6 months. SLI 8800Ms will be quite respectable in years still, most likely.
-
Sure they will but they wont be able to keep up in Native ress with all details maxed on a 1920x1200 screen for much longer than 6 months. I can promise you that.
That what was i was talking about if u didnt get it -
Your own words. You're 0 for 2 now.
-
Nah they will last longer than 6 months. I mean I can still even today play games at 1920x1200 on a single go 7800 GTX in my old XPS M170 and that is with a single GPU.
If my 8800m GTX SLI can play Crysis at 1920x1200 DX10 High there is no doubt there will come any game anytime soon that is more demanding than Crysis.
Just look at Brainer´s SLI setup with two 7950GTX, he still plays games fine at native res and 7950GTX is old by now. -
This monitor refuses to run in 1280x800 mode with a fullscreen game running (the last 34 rows are cut off), and 1440x900 results in poor performance.
-
hehe was about the comment about this, yup, what he said is true, maybe i dont have a 1900x1200 screen since i didnt have the extra money to buy it , but i still Pretty much max out any game in the market right now at Native res but Crysis on high not very high. which is great considering i'm playing it on Native res, and those cards are what? a year and a half old already? id say they will last me another year and a half easily. maybe not highest settings, but still high.
-
If you're THAT worried, get yourself a PS3 or XBOX 360. Run games for the next 5 years at your TV's native res
-
Omg the Ultimate Solution! +rep!
-
That sounds like your scaler sucks. Maybe firmware update or something? Otherwise, you are stuck with lame hardware.

I'm still not 100% sure what blur he's talking about. I don't get blur and I run mine at 1600x1200? Perhaps I'm just missing somethin' fierce here or the OP is completely nuts.
-
We're thinking the latter of the two.
-
this is the funniest thread i ever read
-
That's actually the most sensible thing to do if you can't spend $300 a year for a gaming computer ($1,000 for the first 2 years, $500 more for upgrades).
lol, there's no fix from Westinghouse. Oh well, it works great anyway and it was only $180 after tax. -
Oh, yeah... isn't Westinghouse known to...underperform?
-
Pretty much...
-
actually if anyone needs to get there eyes checked, or if anyone is crazy, I htink its all you guys saying there is no blur. There is most deff a blur! I only have to downscale from 1440x900 to 1024x768 in Crysis, and there is surely a blur, the text is blurry and everything is rounded or softened on the edges.
-
I'm sure there's a blur, but there is no need to freak out and make a big deal about it. It doesn't destroy gaming.
-
I am sure KGann is the type of person who says that 15 FPS in a FPS is playable as well...
-
And of course, 1024X768 is a 4:3 resolution, while 1440X900 is 16:10. When you're scaling from a different aspect ratio, it is going to make for even more scaling artifacts (ie bluriness).
-
OP- your only options are
i) get a console
Or
ii) build yourself a nice upgradeable desktop.
Can I safely say end of discussion? -
Obviously you're new to the forum.
I am well known for whining about ~35FPS. (If it's a First Person Shooter, I refuse to play it under 35FPS)
Try again. -
this thread is pointless. Obviously the op just wants to complain and not take into consideration the solutions suggested. We need one of lithus' brilliant remarks to end this discussion
-

Jesus this thread is hopeless. Just drop it man. Wow, you've been hear for 6 months... fantastic, we were going to throw a suprise Satyrion 6 Month Party, but someone forgot the streamers.
Get a $4,000 notebook if you're afraid of blur... if not, then take everyone else's suggestions. -
how is a $4000 laptop gonna avoid blur?
-
High-end GPU= Games more apt to run at Native Resolutions.
17 inch Laptops are to weak
