I envy Narsnail to death. A 17 inch with that screen res would be a dream. I just checked gateway and they ship to US only. I live in Norway -_-

Satyrion, I think your whole "blur" concern is just silly, nearly all the lastest games use "HDR" technology, "high dynamic range lighting, is the rendering of 3D computer graphics scenes by using lighting calculations done in a larger dynamic range. Video games and computer generated movies benefit from this as it creates more realistic scenes than with the previous lighting model" - wiki. games look "blur" regardless you have native screen or not.

if you're worried about this blur, don't play video games. according to you, it seems no matter what, you always suggest there is a blur.

get the 5793 with 1680x1050 if you want to game at native resolution, all games including crysis. and if you still see the blur, return the machine, use those those money for whatever to fix your eyes.

You should be fine on AoC. I even run it on 1440x900. (My native) Now, of course higher end card will be able to crank up shadows and AA. (I have all high, with shadows low, and no AA... 25+ FPS... only games I will allow under 35FPS to be acceptable)

And good point Nirvana, those Gateways are beasts!

Well it´s easy to avoid the blur. Buy a 8800m GTX SLI notebook now, then when that notebook can´t play games at 1920x1200 get another one in say 3 years with a 280m GTX in SLI then you continue like that whenever there is a new GPU out and you will nevers see any blur, though it will be expensive of course. Easy, close this thread I solved the problem.

First, with that card, you can run a lot of games at the 1920 res on high settings. I have a 8700M GT and was able to run Supreme Commander on full at 1920; beautiful.

From my experience with a 1920 X 1280 screen, you only see blur or fuzziness when you drop to 1200 res. In other words, 1400 and 1600 still looks great.

You heard?! so you judged based on rumor from the beginning? how amazing.

From my experience, there is no 1920x1280 on notebook, 1920x1200 is the standard WUXGA.

Staying at the same pixel aspect ratio will make blur less. Running at resolutions that are factors of native (ie 960X600 on a 1920X1200 screen) will reduce blur. Of course, blur is minimal anyway, and as pointed out, effects like HDR and field of vision make games "blurry" even at native res.

Satyrion I actually have two gaming laptops, the older XPS M170, this XPS M1730 and that desktop Rig you see in my sig. I do also have a 12" Fujitsu Siemens Amilo Si1520 laptop. Yes that is very geeky I agree with you :)

HDR is a glow effect which has nothing to do with the blur he's talking about. Running at non-native resolutions makes everything blurry.

Just get a laptop with a 1280x800 screen. Oh wait, 17" with that resolution don't exist. 1440x900 then.

I think the OP was right that he would not be able to max out all games at native resolution, but the "blur" is not that noticeable when you are into the game unless you are very picky.

It's quite annoying in Counter-Strike, because this blur makes it hard to see the head of someone on the other team from far away.

I think non-native artifacting / pixelation is a more accurate term. "Blur" usually describes an image that is out-of-focus due to rapid motion, but pixelation due to non-native-resolution settings can affect any image, even those of stationary objects or paused movies.
