How'd you get 1000 point increase?

I was looking at his benchmakrd from 6/15 which I assumed was the 12.5 modded drivers.

    Today's test
Looks more like a 29 point increase

I have only seen stock 7970m GPU scores around 5500 on the alienware forum. The GTX 680m also scores just around 5700. Thats the first time i see a score this high on a stock 7970m.

He is definitely overclocking it. The first test looks like 1025/1500, but I see it wasn't the 12.5 modded drivers. Must have been Dell drivers.

    The 2nd one says 400/1500 which I don't understand.

Many people score 5700-5900 with stock 820/1250 or whatever it is.

OC'd many people are getting up to the 6,000s easily; a 10% OC up to 940/1400 is getting people 6200. One guy OC'd his a ton and got a 6800 score. Seriously.

5500 is low for the 7970m, must be on an old processor.

    I do 5743 at stock with 2760qm, and I do 6468 with 950/1500.

Roken I'd suggest running it again; that seems a bit low.

And SlickDude it seriously made the screen brighter??

And do you know a way to overclock the refresh rate for the screen when using a 7970m or AMD card in general?

@Roken911: try FN+F7 maybe, and set power plan to 'High Performance'. That score is indeed a bit troubling.

edit: just saw the details: 990/1560 so not stock at all. but it might get closer to 6k with stock.

yup...the screen was for some reason dimmed with the 12.5's...the screen is brighter with the 12.7's

I wish that was stock lol

It is drivers or your laptop is not providing enough power for some reason...your 5300 score is a tad low. Make sure everything is set to high performance (including the power plan).

I can see that your GPU score was 5121 which tells me that your 7970m isn't running at stock clocks. It almost appears that it is running slower than the rated 850/1200. You should be at 5500-5600 gpu score (stock clocks)

I got these at stock and these at 975/1400. I believe both those numbers are similar to most users out there?

I had a couple of problems though. Firstly, I couldn't go up to 1000/1400 and run 3dMark11. It would crash in the second test. GPUTool was stable though at even 1030/1575. I did not push it above that.

So I decided to go up in smaller increments to see where it broke. 985/1400 was stable but the test actually gave me a score in the lower P6400s. Any idea why that should happen?

Secondly, I cannot run 3DMark above that. 990/1400 crashes at similar points (about 10-15 seconds into the second test). Any idea why that should happen?

Third, I have the dx11 patch for Crysis 2 and with that and everything else on ultra, vsync disabled I get up to 60 fps at some places but FRAPS has shown me as low as 30. This could be because there was a lot of stuff on screen. It drops to 30 at the place where Alcatraz comes out of that body infested building (first couple minutes into the game). You see the statue of libery smoking on your right and the Pacific. I think the water tessellation could cause it to drop but does anyone else have similar frame rates at that point?

It is usually above 40 in other areas and I do not have a problem when it drops to 30. I could kill those 3 guys walking around there just fine. :p. I am not very iffy about the frame rate staying above 30 or 45 or whatever all the time provided the experience, according to me, is good. However, I DO have a problem if something I payed $200 for is underperforming.

Maverick, you're definitely in the ballpark. Every card is different with the clocks and slight variation on the performance. BUt your card will run every game out there so have fun with it! :)

Mine topped out at that same point too with the 12.5 drivers. When I upgraded to 12.7 I can't go about 940/1400 without the display freaking out.

hmmm...i ran 995/1560 on the 12.7's yesterday. But the big difference between me and you guys is that I have an R3 with the integrated graphics completely shut off.

BUT, games are running much better on the 12.7's so i'm sticking with them

You guys really need a custom unlocked bios BAD!

Thanks a lot man. Yeah I know the 7970m should handle all for at least a couple years (I hope! :) ). I just wanted to be sure that my card wasn't a problem.

Another thing I really really wanted to do was run it at 1000/1200 and see how close it came to the 7870. If the two are the exact same without any any any differences, the scores should be close. Unfortunately, I couldn't get to 1000 core on mine. However, at 975 core and adding about 1.6% increase per 5 Mhz (that's what mine came out to be approx at P scores >6000), it comes very close to the desktop 7870 results that I have seen on quite a few websites. So that's pretty cool. I do research in circuit/chip design so I find this stuff fascinating :)

680m is worse in these games at Ultra 1080p full AA
    Metro 2033 by 10%
    Starcraft 2 18%
    Crysis 2 13%
    Deus Ex Human Rev 4%
    Battlefield 3 3%
    Skyrim 4%
    Alan Wake 8%
    Max Payne 3 31%

    All according to notebookcheck.

Pretty hilarious... Considering how much the 680m costs compared to the 7970m, and we don't even have legit drivers yet -_-

I am surprised by the Crysis 2 numbers. That entire engine is heavily sponsored by nvidia. That being said, I think people here are going to be angry we are not only not talking about benchmarks, but also talking about another card :p

^ Hmm I remember seeing those the day the 680m came out. They are a bit hard to follow because nv keeps changing settings although they do mention what settings they used.

BTW, anyone know if any of those guys over in the 7000s on 3DMark11 are on this forum?

What uuuup? What uuuuuuup???? LOL. Ok it is 9 points above 6500 but still. This was at 975/1400 which amazed me. The desktop 7870 has upper 6500s IIRC. But it is clocked 25MHz higher and I did some extrapolation and my 7970m would have actually beaten it by about 150 points with the same clocks. It is unfortunate that it does not remain stable above these numbers.

Btw, off topic, but doesn't the 3610QM do 3.3Ghz with only one core TB? Any idea why mine shows 3.3 on all four?
