i have found the benchmark to truly see if your overclock is stable more than furmark or kombustor the metro2033 benchmark with doa and 4x AA enabled high settings bring the 7970 to he's knees sometimes the benchmark looks like a slide show is really depressing but if the overclock is not stable it will crash on the third run

I am barely stable at 950-1300 with that bench so all those with higher overclocks should try so they can see what I am talking about ;) :p :D

Yeah I Flashed my card in windows using winflash which led to its vbios erased. Fortunately enough, I got it reflashed wi a M18x system so all is well and good now :D.

It seems that if IGP is enabled/auto the driver would have no idea what to do. It will work as soon as I disable IGP. I'm still on my crusade to get BF3 to work at higher clock rates than 950/1400.

what sort of temps are you guys getting?

im running 3dmark11, clocks at 950/1400 with P6385 and about 88 degrees. At stock temps i get around 83deg. When running crysis 2 all on ultra gets up to 92 degrees, im thinking this is a bit too hot?

Yeah Metro2033 is the most grueling benchmark in the world lol. Depth of field will kill the performance even on the most high end cards so they dont even enable it when they are testing that game.

Link below is not a mobile card but more for comparisons sake :)

I didn't have no idea what that benchmark can do to your GPU until I tried with all the DOF enabled and AA it makes the 7970 looks like an HD4000 lol and if your overclock is not truly stable it will froze your system

even the desktop cards having problems with that bench lol

with their settings i am close to the 7950 3GB :)

If it were still on sale through Steam for $5 more people could get it and show us just how stable that overclock really is :D ;).

Close to 7950 desktop card is insane. Cant wait till Monday to give it a try :D.

Best M18x Crossfire fix thus far , yank out one card and sell it to your friend, all problems solved  .

Clocks are stock voltage 950/1500, how they looks?

    My best score so far:

    Score
    P6154 3DMarks with AMD Radeon HD 7970M(1x) and Intel(R) Core(TM) CPU X 920 @ 2.00GHz

    june 12 mod drivers.

    950 core/ 1500 vram

    throttlestop settings: 27/26/25/25 tdp55/tdc47

max gpu temp at end of test 71 deg C / CPU 88 deg C.
    idle gpu 35-38 / CPU 40-45 deg C

I doubt I will be able to go higher on the core without undervolting as meaker did (tried 950/1600 and crashed). This is likely the best that the mobo can do (might be able to squeeze a bit more out of the 920xm though Edit: no I can't - physics score went down).

I shall stop here before I break anything though!

Everybody have good score with this GPU
But what can it's do on games.
Actualy most games are optimized for Nvidia's GPU
Unfortunatly, the score is not the first important factor, isnt it ?

    AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3820QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P6622 3DMarks

Stock Volt. 12.5 ModDrivers. 950/1450 OC.

Last Heaven run I did I got 62.5 with Tess set to normal.

Probably the last day I have with this machine though, until we see who comes out on top with regards to 7970M & 680M - AMD's driver issues have annoyed me for years..

Gameplay wise, on stock clocks this card slaughters Just Cause 2 with everything on MAX at 1080P - so with the overclock and the new drivers it's great - I do wonder how it plays on an Nvidia card, however (PhysX is sexy ;P).

I'm going to check out Crysis (DVD based version - no updates) with fraps in a sec.

Feel free to add any advice and/or feedback. :)

It would not crash but shut off, that could be your limit at stock volts. It's worth a try at 1.075v to see if you can get further.

Can run Crysis (Unupdated) 45 - 60 fps at OC 950/1450 with:
    1080P
    AA x2
Objects, Shaders, Water, Physics, Texters: Very High
    Everything else: High.

    12.5 Modded Beta.

It does go up to (and past) 120fps when nothing is happening on screen - the draw distance sucks though for stuff like debris and twigs on the beach, however. I don't know if this draw distance is a prob with the game or the 7970M rendering properties though.

    Temps: No higher than 65oC.

I think you're lacking of power as your GPU score is not as high as it should be with 1000/1500 clocks. (should be near the 6600mark)

I don't advise to game with the GPU overvolted, it resulted in shutdowns with me ! You got a nice card btw!

Haha no mate I didn't bought a new computer, actually a very close friend made a deal with me, we swapped laptops, I paid mainly the gpu only.
I was tempted about a new build totally but since the 16f2 let's me OC the CPU as well I thought I would be fine with years to come and called it a day :)
I have yet to send my HM as I'm sick in bed but for now he's helping me figuring out this beast and I'm very pleased of the performance :)
Thanks mate, you know who you are :)

So 950/1400 is perfectly stable for BF3 play? Sounds good; most people scoring 6200-6300 with this 10% ish OC. Very nice!

I am getting my rig next week and going to play BF3 allot :p Want Warface and Planetside 2 so bad!

Trying to stay away from RPG's as they are too addictive to me :p Hahaha.

School + work means I can't get "too" sucked in to the games haha.

Hope this goes well; 6300 3dmark11 is as powerful as a GTX 570, maybe slightly more :p.

I'll post up benchmarks when I get it next wednesday!

Hey guys this is my first ever benchmark testing and I'm a bit confused. I just downloaded the basic version of 3dmark 11 and just ran under "Performance (P)" for preset. Is this what everyone is running under? Does this have any affect on the benchmark score?

This is the stock 3dmark 11 score btw: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P5861 3DMarks

Vantage score: AMD Radeon HD 7970M video card benchmark result - Intel Core i7-3610QM Processor,Alienware M17xR4 score: P21382 3DMarks

Yes people run it under P [performance]. And your scores are right on par for a stock 7970m w/ 3610 processor.

5700-5900 is the general range for a stock 7970m. and 21000-22000 is about the norm for vantage stock from what I've seen so far.

Seems like you ran the benches just fine and your card and system in general are right on! Powerful machine you have there.

    No problem.

Also with MSI Afterburner you can OC a good 10% with no changes in voltage or anything.

You can set the memory up to 940/1400 from what I've heard, and it will be perfectly stable for gaming / benchmarking even.

Should take your score up to 6200-6300. And get you a solid 10% more FPS :p.

Not needed in most games but if you are playing something intense like BF3 or Crysis/Crysis 2 / Metro 2033 on max settings it can come in handy to have those few extra FPS. :)

I'm definitely OC'ing mine and posting some benchmarks and videos if possible.

Can't wait; mine comes on Wednesday/Thursday at the latest I should get my tracking number tomorrow :D

Ah, so thats how some of the people here are getting scores above 6000. I was wondering how :p I can't OC my current laptop since I will be giving it away real soon but I'll be getting one with similar configuration sometime next month. I will probably OC it about 10% too. Sounds pretty safe.

Oh and congratz on getting your laptop real soon. Your Clevo sounds awesome!

to the clevo p150em users: how did you overclock?
i'm currently on the 12.6 modded drivers which have been working great so far. but in msi afterburner i can't change the clocks because the tool won't read them (after following slicks guide & enableing unofficial oc and ulps)..
    other bios versions?

edit: first benchmark with stock = http://3dmark.com/3dm11/3679994
    seems alright ;-)
    still i want to oc!

The difference in vantage score is from you having 1333MHz RAM where most people have 1600MHz RAM . It won't translate to much difference at all in real world applications like video games though. I've read many articles on rams effect on gaming and the fps change from 1333 to 1600 RAM is only a few fps, like 2 or 3 fps difference maximum. Most times it will only be 1 or 2. So really its not noticeable . But for vantage it uses RAM and CPU allot so it shows a more significant difference. Its Just a synthetic benchmark dont worry. In games or programs you wont notice .

Well I was going to be throwing in another 8g's when i get home of ram but I assume it won't matter since you said it's mainly just the speed. I will note the last part of the benchmark, where there are planes flying through the hoops, it bogs down to almost nothing. They barely move. Is that normal?

hey guys. I wanna try out some 3dmark, vantage, furmark etc on my system, but how do i tell the programs to run on the amd graphics and not the intel graphics? I tryed running furmark and i get like 8fps and it wont take temps on the amd graphics, so i think its running on intel graphics?

    Thanks!

Oh and i got the clevo p170em, with default clevo drivers
