That's even worse. It means Nvidia is purposely artificially limiting and crippling a subset of their products. They have a great track record of doing just that.![]()

Thinking of picking up an 860M laptop for $900.
I also want to wait for the 960M... but I really don't know what do . -

If you can spend a little more, Clevo P650SE is available with 970M starting from around $1200. -
Every hundred counts, I can't go that high :/
-
Nope. I can verify.
-
According to Prema, NVIDIA did this in mobile Maxwell cards only to stop all throttling problems.. Suppsosedly this is still the same beta 347.09 driver which just had the WHQL tag placed right next to it and sent out with no changes..
-
Hey guys,
Just flashed the premamod onto my W230SS and was wondering what program you use for overclocking? I have afterburner installed but I assume that it is a no go for this GPU as I havent seen anyone talk about it.
Many thanks! -

Cheers bro
It's a shame AB doesn't work, gotten really used to it for desktop overclocking.sasuke256 likes this. -
LOL. I hope that isn't the case. Because disabling a software feature to prevent throttling isn't a solution, it's just hiding the problem. I sure hope they don't lock out software OC from here on out. Dumb dumb dumb.

wow, cant believe the topic created back in April 2014 is still alive!

yeah, it's not exactly a beast anymore
-
I just posted over in the 347.12 driver thread but I thought you might want to check it out and keep up to date as it effects 860M owners.
-
what's the latest system / vbios for w230ss?
i have a prima bios installed but occording to nividia inspector the boost clock looks to still be stock.
bios says modified, is it just stock with no throttling? -
Prema BIOS Mod will unlock overclocking. Otherwise it's stuck with the +135MHz overclock limit.
-
what about this;
http://forum.notebookreview.com/threads/prema-bios-mod-review.667818/
are those overclocks just examples? or is there an released or unreleased vbios mod somewhere? -
I overclocked that myself, just click the "show overclocking" button and move the sliders. Every GPU is different and can overclock differently. It won't auto overclock, you still have to do that yourself. Prema BIOS mod just removes the limitations that prevent you from doing so.
-
alright, cheers.
-
what's the best app for overclocking this gpu? tried msi afterburner and it won't adjust anything.
not sure what to do with nvidia inspector? i haven't overclocked a gpu for several years and am a bit rusty.
i see 3 performance levels 0 - p8, 1 - p5 & 2 - p0 which won't let me adjust anything but voltage.
i thought the modified bios is supposed to be unlocked?

I use EVGA Precision X.. it's really easy to use and interface is nice and simple.. Honestly, haven't used NVIDIA for over 4 years and I could OC etc in a minute after seeing everything..
-
nope, wouldn't let me adjust anything except voltage.
-
Stop using R347 drivers, they lock out overclocking for your card. 344.75 is unaffected.
-
What laptop do you have?
Plus 344.75 was the last driver that allowed overclocking. The 347.xx does not. So use 344.xx driver. -
yeah, after searching i found a thread about the 347 drivers not overclocking.
installed 345.09 and they work.
thanks for the replies. -
I went back to 344.75 to reenable the overclock

Seems like my 860m goes only up to 1350mhz without losing stability. How does it compare to the average people achieve with their 860m? I hoped to get around 1400mhz. (
-
Just need to modify a file for enabling OC. Give it a try, you have the files uploaded in the Nvidia drivers thread in guru3d.
-
Installing 346.87 using modded INF does the same thing and is safer. You need to understand that nvlddmkm.sys is the driver. Putting nvlddmkm.sys from 346.87 into 347.25 turns it into 346.87, with the potential to cause problems since you're mixing the older driver with files from the newer package, so what's the point? I blame that Gamenab guy for popularizing this tomfoolery.
-
News with 347.52 from today? Still prohibited overclock?
-
Still no overclocking.
-
It is worth goes back to 345 for the 135+MHz?
I mean. Usually new drivers gives you fps improvements. For example last driver was dying light ready, and this last one is evolve ready.
Can we gain more fps through 135mhz extra than through new drivers? -
That's a greater than 10% OC for 860M. It would have to be an exceptionally performant driver to give you that gain across the board. I doubt it, considering it's still on R347 (big performance improvements come with new branches).
-
New branch you mean 34X or 3XX?
-
New branch meaning change in number before the decimal point.
-
Then, anyone knows the increase bump between 344.75 to any 347.xx available. I'm still on 344.75 with +135mhz OC (only ...). Wondering if it would be better to upgrade.
-
Laptopvideo2go has plenty of drivers between 344.75 and 347xx which can be used too..
-
Does the newer drivers limit overclocking on memory also? My memory is at 6.2GHz up from 5GHz. I find that the memory OC has more effect anyway due to the bandwidth limitations caused by the 128 bit bus.

Ionising_Radiation ?v = ve*ln(m0/m1)
Hey everyone - I've been using 347.XX drivers for a while, so I forgot my OC numbers. Recently reverted back to 344.75 for OCing. I tried to overclock my 860M using the numbers below:
Core: +150 MHz
VRAM: +250 MHz
Voltage: +225 mV
I get several artifacts in Heaven. As the benchmark proceeds for longer, the artifacts go from flashing textures to hanging, and then Heaven crashes. Am I doing something wrong, or is my silicon messed up? What are your overclocks? -
HaloGod2012 Notebook Virtuoso
start with the core first, get max stable speed, bump by 10-20mhz and test, then move to the vram next. Core always first! -
Any idea as to why this has happened and when will it be fixed ?
-
Can anyone compare fps 344 oc vs 347 ?
-
NVIDIA have removed the ability on purpose... Follow this thread and sign the petition!

I have a Gigabyte P35G and am looking to reduce temperatures a bit.
Would undervolting the 860M be worth it? I don't have the laptop with me right now to check if Afterburner allows voltage control on the card, but if not, would a modded BIOS be required? -
Your CPU is much more a culprit for temps than your 860M. And with newest drivers you can't even undervolt your 860M, no.bernieyee likes this.
-
Repaste your CPU+GPU with some good thermal paste like IC Diamond or Gelid GC Extreme and clean out the vents.. This will automatically reduce your temps by 10C
-
Hey guys,
Quick question. If I get the modded(unlocked) bios will I be able to overclock the GPU even with the newest nvidia drivers? Or I need to get a bios with already clocked frequencies?
Best Regards! -
You will not be able to overclock in software, even with an unlocked vBIOS, until Nvidia removes the overclock block from its 347.xx drivers. They said the fixed driver comes next month, but who knows...

Hello, I was trying to overclock GTX 870M 3 GB. My oc settings cause to hit tdp power limit which is 100w. How can I raise this value? MSI Afterburner and Evga Precision not helpful, power limit section is greyed out so I cannot select.
Could you please help me something by the way? I want to download Nvidia GTX 870m - 'OC edition' - rev00.zip (130.4 KB, 123 views) from the below link but it says I don't have 5 post. If anyone is able to download, please can you upload it Mediafire or somewhere? I will be very greatful. Thank you.

You need 5 posts to download files. That is their site policy.
