bro, can you give me the version number of these drivers? like is it 8.97 or 8.98....or even the catalyst number like 12.5, 12.6 etc....

Looks like they finally have mature working drivers in the metabox. what was your tesselation setting set at?

    7K at 940/1250 is insane

well...typically at 940mhz, the score is in the mid 6's...but 7K? that's a new level of card performance...it has to be the drivers. he is getting 6997 GPU score!!

I think he said he had tesselation OFF.

Does sound like he meant he did turn it OFF to get that score but I guess only he can shed some more light on this.

NO tesselation is on...look at the detailed results of the test...he is getting a GPU score of 6997 which is insane. the overclock at 940mhz is very conservative.

Tessellation setting is 5 means it is on...but i don't know how he set it in CCC

Doesn't the "Non-standard AMD Tessellation Setting: 1" mean tessellation was off or something?

The last detail provided under the settings tab in the link you posted does say "Non-standard AMD Tessellation Setting: 1".

I guess this would mean the tesselation settings were altered from the standard performance preset and not switched off. This means he has tweaked it to perform better. At least that is what I infer from that. I am sure others who have 3dmark 11 scores to compare do not have that last option displayed in their 3dmark 11 scores.

For eg compare this with Meakers score here in this thread.
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...ards/669344-7970m-benchmark-results-only.html

The screenshot Meaker posted does not have that setting displayed.

he must have tess off, otherwise this is legit 10% increase in performance (can it be explained just with driver optimizations? dunno )

don't be sad bro...this card will do 7k 3dmark11's. I just scored over 6700 with no tweaking and there's still another 80mhz on the core and 200mhz on my vram left for overclocking (I just don't like pushing it that far and upping the voltage)

LOL...there's still hope lol...from what i have seen, the 12.5 modded drivers (link found in my 7970m guide) are still the best drivers in terms of performance

But I am kind of sure that the 7k score was achieved by tweaking the tesselation setting. None of the other 3dmark11 scores posted in any of the threads have tat option displayed.

Still considering reliable scores for the 680m can be out any time, any sort of driver updates will be a bonus for the 7970m.

Are these drivers for P170EM exactly the same the ones Sager provide on their website? custom gaming laptops - Welcome to Sager Notebooks

Also I'm reading loads of problems with the 7970m. i.e Black screens when gaming, BSOD problems, 2nd batch defect etc. Will all this get better as offical drivers are released? As it seems the owners of the latest products are always the lab rat that goes through all the problems and testings etc.

ya, 7K (tess off) is very easy to get on the 7970m. With Tess, the guys are scoring in the high 6's...usually 6700-6900 with an overclock

    We've had a few 7K's with tess enabled @ 1.1v

    It's still a beast of a card

What is up is AMD withholding their drivers? Frustrating. No wonder Nvidia has the balls to ask £180 ($300) more than 7970m.
I think I'm going to hold off my purchase until both 7970m & 680m have released their official drivers and enough people have got to use it.
It's like the buyers of the latest tech are lab rats that have to deal with all the unexpected surprises.

the 12.6.9 drivers will be the first driver that supports amd 7000 officially. The beta is already available and its showing huge improvements, for example a 10% increase in skyrim

Now that said, with the 12.5 modded beta's, you can see what this card does in 3dmark11. And there aren't any games out there that this card doesn't eat up with the 12.5's

Yeah but right now the 7970m is very unreliable with BSOD when gamed from 1min to 1hour. Right now on the AMD mobility driver website http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/windows/Pages/radeonmob_win7-64.aspx there is only 12.4.

and Observer, just to be fair, with regards to new tech, both Nvidia and AMD do their best to get the drivers out, but it just takes a bit of time at the beginning

If you think that Nvidia are exempt from this practice, why don't you ask cakefish about Nvidia kepler drivers. He's had his 650m now for a few months with no real driver support. It doesn't mean that the cards don't work, its just that optimized drivers are on the way....soon. The same situation is with AMD and the 7970m. You haven't been around very long in the hardware seen it seems lol.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/gam...69886-nvidia-geforce-600m-series-drivers.html

    So just be patient.

Why do people think that new drivers will suddenly give you 1 million extra FPS? There are more to drivers too you know than extra performance..

Notebook manufacturer have supplied people with drivers that work with your GPU. Everything else is a *bonus*

I had same issue as Prasad - reset the default to 125% and was fine.

I also had to reset the EnableUlps registry setting back to 0 as it reverted to 1 after I upgraded the drivers. Afterburner kept displaying weird clock speeds until I discovered the registry problem...

I couldnt overclock past 970/1470 reliably, anyway at least.

Degradation/instability started between 974/1472- 978/1478. At the low end there was artifacting. At the high end 3Dmark crashed and/or BSD.
