Obviously I just purchased the 7970, but I've been mostly a sideline observer here. It just seems like Cloud has contributed about half of the posts to this lively thread, mainly in defense of Nvidia.

Read your first post. You said that most people who are complaining about an AMD video card don't own one.

And, no I haven't only had one AMD card with a problem, more like 30. Of which around 30%-40% had annoying problems. Not outright faulty, just quite annoying.

Defending something doesn't make you a fanboy. A fanboy is someone who has an obvious bias to a certain product, and won't recognize any faults with that product.

Yeah, I`m probably gonna sell the notebook that I`m buying, next year anyways :p

I`m hoping someone makes the watercooled notebook we saw 3-4 months ago. Hopefully someone buys the patent and implement it. Would love to own one as my gaming notebook that I will be mainly using home on my desk anyways, so no splishy splash while carrying it around :)

It wouldn't splash around anyway as it would all be contained within the loop without any air.

i would hope it outperforms the 7970, then amd will actually move their a** and get some drivers out to make the 7970m shine. GPU wars are the best, tons of new cards and more drivers being released

This is getting pretty annoying. He hasn't done that. Cloud predicted the 680m would be 15%, that was before benchmarks. Calm down and stop acting like an 8 year old.

I don't give a/care a crap which one is faster, I'll never own either. But, the way all the immature fanboy jump on Cloud because of his predictions is extremely rude and annoying

I agree. I'm getting a 7970m but won't be upset at all if the 680m performs better. Competition and choices are wonderful and benefits us all.

fanboy, sure... looked at my sig lately@current config? just that i looove how some people defend their favorite color to the death, coming up with all kinds of theories / excuses / strategies / clever ideas all based on some hypothesies that make their team look good without bothering to wait for actual PR-unbiased benchmarks. but of course, pointing that fact out usually brings out the "youre a fanboy"-rants again

btw, dunno if this has been posted yet:

Computex-Video: Geforce GTX 680M und Battlefield 3 bei Nvidia

BF3 on 1080p res max details running on 680M (i think thats a clevo P270WM?) in the range of 30-40 fps. unfortunately they dont have specific numbers but the interviewed/present company rep was said to have confirmed that fps range.

    cheers

that doesnt seem right, also it has only 2gb of ram, i thought all of the reports showed 4gb, also wasnt the p270wm cancelled or something like that. also i can get around 30 fps with my 485m and everything maxed in bf3 the 680m should be doing much better.

What is left to wait for? We already know that the 680M's performance, regardless of what exact percentage, doesn't justify the price premium over the 7970M.

just some people actually getting the cards in some machines and running games, benches, temp readings... all that. And, if/when Nvidia releases some drivers for it (possibly before the 7970M, possibly not). There's a lot to wait for honestly.

I dont consider myself as AMD fanboy, but if saying anything good for AMD is being handled in this forum as a fanboyism, then so be it!
Nevermind that i have already had GTX680 and i still have 2 notebooks both with nvidia cards inside.
Im still a true AMD fanboy.

guys ive been an nvidia user from long time. Ive repeated alot in the past that i had AMD cards as well, namely 5850 xfire, and it wasnt pleasant at all.

But ive got my 7970m now, and apart some games that are not running as they were on nvidia (Rage, but i fixed it, althought i cant use AA), i can say that everything i throw at it, it works just fine.

Its rough around the edges, thats true, but i must give credtis to amd. Their drivers matured alot since last time i had the pleasure, for now im happy.

This just to say that even if you are an nvidia fanboy, but short on budget, give the 7970m some thoughts, and some love.
I think youll not be disappointed.

In any case, even if 680m is 10% faster, for $295 price difference I still see 7970m as the winner unless you absolutely must have the "fastest" mobile GPU on the market (a title that will last all of 3 months at best).

omg DJ, you've been stewing over this all weekend and you haven't decided yet lol

    Here is what i see:

680m will probably be somewhere like 5-10% faster out of the box and if you stay with Alienware, they will probably charge $3-400 more for it over 7970m. However, still so many unanswered questions like will the 680m really overclock etc... 7970m's are overclocking very well in general.

And given your situation, you will laptopless until late July, Maybe longer given the build time of the machine, shipping and 680m availability.

The 680m will probably be the champ so if that is important to you...however, in the fast paced world of vid cards, its reign on the throne will probably be only for a few months until AMD comes out with an response. THis is the nature of the beast. It really comes down to does your current laptop do everything that you want it to?

I know man, tell me about it - I'm usually really decisive, too. But according to a StevieJones his rep says the card could get released on 21st June, hence my predicament lol.

How much do Alienware's typically depreciate over about a year (in perfect condition)? And are they realistically easy to sell on second hand? If, say, I only lose £400 - £500 over the next year (has 2 year warranty so that'll add value) I'll just keep the thing.

Oh and at an overclock, how well is Witcher 2 performing for you?

If it is gonna help you sleep at night, return it and get one with a 680m. And 3-4 months from now, it will all be irrelevant when the 7970m refresh happens...and then the 685m comes out.

My point is you'll never win. You just have to get whatever plays your games at a level you're happy with.

But you have to do what is going to help you sleep at night :p

Witcher 2 runs maxxed (no uber sampling) at my gaming clocks @ 950/1400. It essentially has allowed me to turn on depth of field and motion blur which i couldn't do with the 6990m

How often do 'flagship' GPU's get released then? Quarterly or something? If anything, I'll just wait until the card after the 680M get's released and get a girl to buy me one for Christmas >.<
