I wasn't aware that the official specs for the desktop 660 was released.
-
-
After all the rumors have been saying 4GB 680M for a long time now. Doesn`t work with a 192bit bus. -
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Those numbers seem a bit off for the 660, dissabled units dont bring down the power that much (See radeon 5830).
-
-
-
the plot thickens@perf. speculation on the 680m, keep it up guys!
-
Nah, it seems more logical to me that leaked cuda cores count is correct and it will be half GTX680 on that part.
768 cores in 64 units, 256bit DDR5. Base clocks perhaps as high as 950(1000turbo)/1000 or so. Should be around 100W TDP.
Also should perform a bit better than half of GTX680 due mem bandwith not cut as much as GPU. -
2-All tests with not official drivers, the 7970m is almost at 580 level without an official driver support yet, some are saying it's because of DX11 performance (where 7870>gtx580)
http://images.anandtech.com/graphs/graph5625/44640.png
When overclocked it's already past 580 desktop
http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z92/chaotic_george/Max11.png
Point is Nvidia card gotta be at minimum gtx 580 desktop power to compete with 7970m
7970m is cool card also under furmark it doesn't even reach 70c at stock speed (Capped at 68C) -
680sli bs 7970xfire, is it visually different or just a differance in numbers/benchmarks?
-
Meaker@Sager Company Representative
Yeah the 7970 xfire will give you a result as the 680M is vapour ware atm.

HOWever, we have unofficial modded drivers that will work with the 7970m. You just don't get all the new feature support like Enduro
As the card gets released, i'm sure official beta support from AMD will be coming -

We've seen just shy of 7000 with it on.
-
Yeah a quick look at two reviews shows that GTX 580 is better than 7870. Once you crank up the visual settings the 580 runs away from 7870.
I`d say it is a 10-15% difference in average between 580 and 7870. So who knows what GTX 580 vs 7870 M difference is really... -

Guys does really matter if its on the edge of GTX 580 performance?
Thats not the whole point here.
The point is that this card can go beyond GTX 570 which imho is a wonderful card, while reaching ALMOST gtx 580 performance.
Giving how much the GTX 570 strong is, even with Crysis 2 and BF3, theres no point into arguing if it can tackle a GTX 580 here.
my previous desktop had a GTX 570 that was running at 850/2100 and i hadnt any problems into running BF3 with almost always 60fps even with PostAA to MAX and 2xAA.
Same with Witcher 2, which maxed out (no uber) saw nothing less than 60-55fps.
Crysis 2 at ULTRA was comfy around 60-58fps, being 53 the lowest.
If a desktop card in the likes of a GTX 570 can deliver that performance, then the HD7970m can go beyond it, reaching the 580. A good idea would be looking at GTX 570 performance and benchmarks then add around 2-5% more to get the ideaa.
First delusion for me is that current drivers dont like my main current game, Binary Domain.
On desktop 7970 and 7950 drops to 40fps without reason while my thrusty lil'old GTX 485m can max out the game and vsync it to 60fps without even raising clocks.
Not to mention that i was playing RAGE just fine before swapping my 570 for a 7970, while i cant now, not really well. Continues stuttering and fps dropping on a card that should outperform my old 570. Bah.
AMD drivers phail, its still the same old story. -
Yeah, I'm no less impressed by the 7970M than anyone. Once voltage tweaking is possible, it should overclock past 1000Mhz which puts it very close to the 580. Crazy performance for a mobile GPU.
I just wanted to address HSN21's statement that the 7970M at stock performs like a 580. -
Hey guys
I'm upgrading to a proper gaming laptop (I currently struggle like hell on a Phenom 2 N830 and an ATI HD 2450!)
Does anyone have an idea when the 7970 will be released on the Clevo? I'm tempted to go with Alienware, but I've heard that Dell can be a little patchy on drivers, and that you can't use 3rd party drivers?
I'm hoping it's going to be soon, I'm drooling! -
dude :
Test: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 (Seite 12) - ComputerBase
Test: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 (Seite 14) - ComputerBase
overall oc without voltage increase 7970m is already =gtx 580
with 4*ssaa(ubersampling)
7970m destroys gtx 580.even stock is faster then gtx 580. -
-
IF the 680m is based off the 660ti we may NOT be seeing it for awhile
1 Nvidia always releases desktop part first.
2 numerous sites including overclocker, hardware canuks and THG are saying we could be looking at Q3 for it to arrive
Nvidia GeForce GTX 660 Ti Not Coming Until Q3 '12? -

Kingpinzero ROUND ONE,FIGHT! You Win!
Thats why im still pointing out that a good comparison is something between GTX 570 and 580, but more the first. -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
At stock...a good comparison point for the 7970m is the desktop gtx 570 (driver differences not withstanding).
The cards that we have now max out at around 1ghz core. So dropping to a more comfy 100mhz overclock to 950mhz, we are looking at about another 11-12% performance on top of the gtx 570. -
he was saying basically 7870 = gtx580
so overclocked+SSAA one would destroy 580
in this page gaming benchmarks
Test: Nvidia GeForce GTX 680 (Seite 14) - ComputerBase
At 1080p + SSAA enabled
7870 was faster than 580 in Bulletstorm and skyrim (7870 21% faster than 580 in skyrim)
identical at Serious Sam 3
7870 8% slower than 580 in witcher 2
That's why give or take at 1080p+AA 580 and 7870 is about identical in performance

One thing to note is considering the benchmarks you guys were giving it looks like the drivers have improved since launch.
-
Rating - 2560x1600 8xAA/16xAF
AMD Radeon HD 6950 67,2fps
AMD Radeon HD 7870 74,3fps
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580 76,7fps
i saw slick oc'ing his 7970m around 950/1350 savely without volt mod
a hd 7870 is clocked 1000/1200 so its about even right?
(i think the 7970m at this clock will be a bit faster though through the mem)
now 74,3 to 76,7 its not a big deal
and notice please the used driver was AMD 8.95.5-120224a
so with old driver
with newer driver which will definetly bring some boost and a bit volt increse a 7970m will smoke a desktop gtx 580 i think.
And if you you're someone who loves ubersampling
SSAA-Benchmarks - 1920x1080@4*ssaa Skyrim
Nvidia GeForce GTX 580: 39,6fps
AMD Radeon HD 7870: 50,0fps
so even the stock 7970m kills it.With oc..... -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Things run great @ 950/1350 for me. This is what i game at. -
1000/1500?? wooow......
that means you're over 7870 desktopa and gtx 580 level, with stock volts!!!!
thats some crazy right here -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
Geo went to 1020/1550 for his vantage runs (on stock voltage) -
how much 3d mark 2001 gpu tess on did he get?
i cant give enough +rep for you 2 guys.
the only question is will it fit into my r2?
i think it will though -
that's crazy for stock voltage, how stable is it?
-
Here is a comparison made by me. I did not choose to look at the synthetic tests but rather ingame performance.
And I will be looking at 1200p (1920x1200) since its the closest to 1080p which is valid for notebook users. 1080p is rarely tested with these desktop GPUs.

Comment: Going up in resoltions will cause the difference to get bigger, advantage to GTX 580. But that comparison is useless for us notebook users. I guess that the 7970M is maybe 10-15% slower than 7870 so the 7970M is far from GTX 580 performance AT STOCK. -
alright then, ill crank up the 7970M juice 20% and ill have a desktop 580 in my laptop, thx for the heads-up!

SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
tess off 3dmak11, you are looking at 7650 at those clocks
There is someone that has ordered 7970s (yes plural) for the R2. We will see soon enough. My concern is that you may have to under-volt these cards for it to work and you may have issues with the fan control because of the way the sensor is located on the mobo on the R2.
I wouldn't do 1ghz/1.5ghz everyday though. eventhough the voltage is stock, i don't like running it that high for everyday. I get more than adequate performance @ 950/1350
Now that said...imagine what your reaction would have been 1 yr ago, if i told you that i had a mobile graphics card that goes head to head with a desktop gtx 570? -
I`m a little jealous
BTW: Is it possible to overclock the 7970M to 7870 level without torching the notebook and it stays there stable? -
SlickDude80 Notebook Prophet
i went through metro 2033 @ 995/1400 for 40 mins (just to try it). It was completely stable. Max temp in afterburner was 77c
Its very possible to run it at those clocks for a long period of time, i just prefer a little safety so i drop it down to 950/1350 for gaming. -
and yes 7970m@7870 clocks@stock voltdestroys a gtx 580 in this game
i love this card/s -

Are WHQL drivers out for the 7000M series yet? I didn't see them on the AMD website.
Oh and if anybody didn't know, Alienware is all Ivy bridge at this point! -

no official driver support for the 7970m yet.
