You clearly didn't download and install the Launch Manager from the Acer site like you should have done when getting the drivers!

Has anyone been able to get Heroes of Newerth to run on this yet? I keep getting a K2 Exception whenever I try to start it.

Did anyone manage to enable gpu acceleration in flash streams?
I can see acceleration is enabled in youtube or in mpc-hc (1080p gives me 20% cpu usage, temperature is around 65°C) but I can´t get it to work with online streams, for example justin.tv
Even with low resolution the cpu usage goes to 60% and temperature goes over 80°C. The acceleration is clearly now working...

So, I downloaded the updated bios above with no issues. The fact that AMD is offering through their website, for the acer 522, a bios with c-60 apu support,
well, it makes one wonder if AMD is going to release the software to upgrade all c-50's to c-60 turbo status.

AMD has always had an overclock friendly culture, I am curious to see how this unfolds. That would be a complete boon to get such a powerful upgrade.

Not all Flash video uses the same codecs so just like offline viewing, not all online viewing can use acceleration.

Although I and many other users have seen that the acceleration can be finicky, sometimes working with one combination of Flash, Catalyst, and browser and not with other combos. Hit and miss at times which is frustrating. When I had a Broadcom Crystal HD on my Intel Atom netbook it just worked all the time without any fuss.

Nope, not gonna happen. C-60 is different not just a software "hack"

You know this because..... Of course your answer makes sense, considering that I fundamentally assume the same, except for reading that the c-50 might have the c-60 "turbo" architecture already on the die. Optimism towards the unknown instead of a haughty "Nope", is more my M.O. , though only in benign wishing such as a netbook getting the ultimate upgrade.

Here is a link on the discussion... AMD C-60 Gets TurboCore...

Of course another consideration against c-50 to c-60 is the cooling setup on netbooks which the c-50 aren't designed for the extra heat delivered by a turbo APU. Or Are They?

Perhaps someone could shed more light....

Edit: The more I read on the subject through different sites, the less likely. Oh Well.

hi iam moving my thread from ati forum here": they suck :)

    original post:

    hello,

i buy recently new acer aspire one 522 with ontario c-50 / ati 6250, it works great so far!!, what are best drivers for this model ?

any other suggestion for more speed ? i recently lower and disable some windows 7 settings and uninstalled/disable antivir, drivers, services for not used features and remove some acer blotware , its even better!

i run those apps and games so far in HD resolution plus forced 2xmsaa antialias :

    diablo 2 lod in d3d - GOOD,
titan quest - lower some settings a bit - GOOD,
alien breed 2-tweak lower res. - GOOD
    photoshop cs5 - GOOD,
    resolume 3.3.1 - GOOD!,
fifa 2008 lower some settings - GOOD! ,
fifa online - tweak and HD res - GOOD, but mouse controls only -crap game
    Unreal 2 - HD, max details-quite GOOD,

sof payback - 800x600,some detail tweak - GOOD,
nfs most wanted -tweak custome details + use widescreen patch fo HD res. - GOOD.
half life 2 - high details, HD res + aa - fps GOOD
serious sam HD - tweak - GOOD
chrome game - max, HD res - GOOD

torchlight - max, HD - GOOD

angry birds - HD - GOOD

battlefield play4free BETA- must tweak to minimum or Low - max 800x600 , quit playable but cheated

    battlefield 2 - custome det., text.high,light-med,soldier-med,veh.med,HD ,2xmsaa - GOOD!

nfs world - must use minimal details and 800x600 res. game is playablebut you must install amd duo core optimizer ...

i upgraded ram to 4 GB(kingston 1066mhz), and now windows and loading is really smooth!!!

    my WEI score goes up (cpu 2,8 . ram 4,9 . gpu aero4,1 . gpu game 5,5 . hd 5,6)

    updated bios to ver. 1.07

catalyst 11.5b was ok,now iam testing 11.6 =bad performance, went back to 11.5b

i install amd duo core optimizer and overall response is better and visible!!!! must have

i flashed bios v 1.12, no problem, flashing takes little longer than other bios updates

and about c-60 , what i read, its the same chip as c-50 ..the same cores, freq. wats, but it seems that turbo mode isonly software thing...like config of cpu and freq... one difference is turbo mode runs only 1 core of 2 , and cpu and gpu freq. is boosted about 30 percent...so the power is the same 9wat and the heat should be the same...
so maybe some hack can be true!!!
but realy, its turbo? when you have only one core ?
i think the bottleneck of this APU is CPU, and 2 cores at 1ghz is still beter than 1 core at 1.33ghz

I do know that the C-60 is dual core. In fact the specs for the C-50 and the C-60 are both the same, albeit the turbo feature. The idea is that the Bobcat
Apu's are essentially , at least for the dual core, one chip that has been modified to operate at different levels based on how the chip is used, gives some sense of hope. I am no expert in mixed martial arts nor
computer science or programming, but when a bios update is offering apu support for the c-60,
before the release of the c-60, for the acer 522, I wonder if a coup , a cabal where c-50 owners get a happy suprise, hmmm, most likely not. The bios probably is a universal update that is pragmatically packaged including next product line, the C-60.

But, dream a dream you'd like to see!

.I just reread your post Krishna, you have more insight than what I found on the internet. So it switches to one core, going to 1.3 Ghz, which is the same as the single core c-30. Interesting.

also i published infos about real temperatures that i monitored:
Idle at Balanced Power After 1Hr: 56 deg. Celsius at cca 22 celsius ambient
idle at High Power After 1Hr: 60 Celsius
    Gaming: 80-85 celsius
MAX i reached with monitor is 96 celsius!!!! ( when my fan broke itself,RMA,fixed)
and i suspect OVERHEAT INSTANT SHUTDOWN happens around 100 deg. celsius, it happens to me :)
HD temperature raised to MAX 44 deg. celsius, but normaly it should be max 42 celsius.
i think it would be great to push the fan more, but its not possible to my knowledge, yet
and what bugs me is that HDMI output is croped, anyone with same issue?
and other thing is strange random lines after some intense gaming,..it happens very occasionaly thou..? ( i read it here, some user has this problem)

SO OVERCLOCK UNDERCLOCK + MORE TOOL IS HERE:
    Hallo,

!!! check this for newest versions:
    http://code.google.com/p/brazostweaker/
    screenshot:
    https://picasaweb.google.com/102001565423244207786/26Jula2011#5633637388576311730

so time will bring overclocking and fan controls to reality..
    - overclocking is possible only with modified BIOS...wait

this is reference page : http://www.hardwareluxx.de/communit...-quiet-customized-592774-19.html#post16978819

    little help:

    1) Be sure to download the appropriate version (32- or 64-bit) of Brazos .

    2) Open up Brazos: under the P0 tab, change VID to 0.8750. This is from the default of 1.1625v at 1.0 gHz.

    3) Under the P1 tab, change VID to 0.7875. This is for running at the default P1 frequency of 800 mHz - I found running at 500 mHz to be too laggy. (Note: to benefit from the changes, install the AMD C-50 APU drivers listed in the Wiki and then open AMD Vision Engine Control Center in system tray, go to "Performance", "CPU Power", and change "on battery" CPU Processor speeds to 800 mHz.)

    4) Create the Brazostweaker service so you don't have to open the program every time you boot the computer. Click "Service", "Update", check "Make custom P-state settings permanent", and hit Apply.

    5) Stress-test your machine at least 30 minutes to make sure that everything is stable with no BSOD. I used Orthos http://www.overclock.net/download...rthos.html

Before, max temp under 10 min stress test: 90 deg C
After, max temp under 10 min stress test: 69 deg C "

Wow thank you so much Krishna!

I've had temp issues ever since I purchased this netbook in march. I even modded the heatsink, added a copper shim, and applied arctic 5 thermal paste. All that did is lower all of my temps by 5-8 degrees celsius, but it did not stop the temps from reaching 90 and throttling during gaming.

I downloaded the tweaking software you just posted and began tuning to my delight. I've done many overclocks, underclocks and volting with amd chips over the years so this was a sinch. The chip is locked from doing any frequency adjustments, so any tweaks to the freq fool cpuid and other monitoring software but dont actually push the chip past 1000mhz per core. I lowered the voltage for 1000mhz from 1.12 down to 0.875 with no stability issues!!! My max temp with cpu cores and gpu at 100% loads for 30 min are now about 76 degrees! Heat issues are completely eliminated.

As for overclocking the cpu or changing the clocks and voltage to the gpu, the software will not help. But it looks like that is being worked on, according to the forum posts from the software maker on the forum you posted.

I assume my battery will last much longer now too after undervolting so much. My fan wont have to kick in as much either. Krishna you are the man. Many thanks for your update. Thanks to everyone who has provided optimization tips and tweaks for this sweet piece of hardware over the last few months.

and have yu flashed new 1.12 bios ? maybe som unlocks are there ;)
i read on that forum some guys have modified bios that unlocks 1ghz maximum...so i think later on some modified bios will unlock all settings....
wow good yu test it, i was afraid, did yu try latest brazos version?..
underclock yu found is interesting!!..keep testing some heavy games...
and how the tool works, it loads up with windows? yu can publish your settings screenshot for lamers like me ;)
have you something for fan monitor? i have suspicion that fan profile by defaul is very LOW even on 80 deg. celsius..and it should be HIGHER about 10-20 percent
i want change that too..but not possible yet...

im running at 0.875 volts when im at 1ghz, and i have it set to downclock to 500mhz at 0.70 volts at idle. i should see some awesome battery life gains i hope. i flashed to the new c=60 firmware, and still locked to 1ghz. im running 11.5b DNA modded mobility drivers, win 7 32 bit ultimate. i tore apart win 7 for speed. i upgraded ram to 2gb.

i cant wait for a modded bios. this way we'll be able to change clock freqs for cpu and gpu. hopefully we'll also be able to unlock ddr3 ram clocks too, as those are being capped by the bios.

as far as temps, nothing can put the temps past 77 degrees. i ran fear 3 = actually kinda playable, fear 1, gears of war, halo 1 and 2, half life 2 = chugs at parts, doom 3 = chugs alot at some parts, kane and lynch 2 = neaaarly playable, hoping drivers improve performance later.

i can see this netbook is being choked by the cpu. i ran amd system monitor during all my benchmarks and i can see gpu is used well, but cpu is peaked in almost all games.

    ok, great!...
and what is DNA modded drivers?
best performance ju will get with acer default driver(idont like the bug of disapearing ccc systrayicon), but 11.5b seems to be ok to me...yu can check the games i tested, .GOOD means 60 fps or pleasent fps
for example BF2 runs at 60fps for my surprise
also good to mention if yu undervolt. ju get lower performance even the same 1ghz is preserved
so maybe its good to undervolt only idle state or in your case overheatin...(but ju should RMA maybe)

you shouldnt get poorer performance by undervolting, as long as the same freq is maintained. the only negative to undervolting is the possibility of system instability. so i'm not worried about that.

i am surprised that you are getting 60fps in any kind of game. are you using any framerate counters to confirm that? my framerates are all under 30 fps on average, with only the oldest or least demanding games achieving anywhere near 60fps +

theres no way i should rma my netbook though. according to all of the forum posts on the net about this netbook 90degrees or higher is common when doing anything intensive for extended periods. like gaming for over an hour. the chip has a max thermal capacity of 90 and should throttle performance to maintain that max. i used to work for a major retailer in canada, and burnt out chips or chips overheating and seperating from the motherboard were very common. i think its manufacturers cheap tactic to ensure that your pc blows itself out by the time they want you to buy a new one. every 1-3 years or so.

they strip the drivers from the bloated services that are auto enabled after installation, as well as optimizing settings for mobile or desktop cards.

man i see some review/test about undervolting. and their conclusion was lower performance...maybe you can try calculate some Pi!!

yes i believe you that, about hot chips :))))))
IT industry is going into BIG FRAUD TIME
its good known fact that 30 percent of notebooks / netbooks will broke to 3 years! :)
iam counting fps by eye...when everything is smooth without any stutter..its 60 :)

man your judging fps by eye??? tsk tsk

you were right about the original drivers having good performance. it seems that the 11.5 drivers from windows update are by far the fastest ive used now though. much better than 11.5b.

undervolting gives me the exact same fps in all my benchmarks, and all of my applications take the same time to load, render, and extract. as long as the chip is clocked the same there really shouldnt be any performance loss. i've been thoroughly testing all day ;)

as well, battery performance is up quite a bit. i got about 4.5 hours gaming and high load applications with wifi on. normally i get under 4. and with just browsing windows is reporting about 7.5 hours, but i havent tested that completely yet. once we can undervolt the gpu i suspect muuuch better battery performance.

    my conclusion, have fun undervolting

First time poster here. Hello guys.

As an enthusiast overclocker I must admit that little program had me buzzing inside. On a side note undervolting works very nicely and I'm getting temps in the low 70s while running prime Small FFT and measuring with core temp.

    ATM I've settled for 0.95v for P0 ( 1000 MHz) and 0.9v for P1 ( 800 Mhz ). I'll report more findings.

you shouldnt have to set anything from CCC. I've had ati cards since the 9700 pro back in the day. The CCC is bloatware, and may actually degrade performance. I am benchmarking with framerate counters, and performance is higher on the drivers published specifically for our chips. I actually have two of these notebooks. One is mine and the other is my gf's. She lets me do whatever I want with it, so I can always compare with another machine ;)

The dual core optimizer shouldnt do much, as windows 7 fixed the timing issues that were a problem in win xp. win 7 has great multi-core support and power management. The dual core optimizer is supposed to fix any timing issues from the processors changing operating frequency for power saving. For example, even if you had the timing issue, as long as you kept the processor at 1ghz mode, you shouldnt experience the bug. In addition, the dual core optimizer installs but will not run on either machine I have. Check your task manager or use "process explorer" to ensure the software is actually running. I have two other systems at home running amd x4 cpus and 5870s, and dual core doesnt do squat to improve performance on either. It may be a placebo effect that there is any performance improvement whatsoever. Always use the same benchmark with framerate counters to ensure identical and fair testing at all times.

amdfanTO: you made a remark about CCC amounting to bloatware.
wondering if everyone [but me of course] has seen the same?
Did you pull drivers from the install package or do they post them separately? sounds like I need to change my rig.

that Target deal was killer on the AO722-BZ454 .... that little machine is garnering some impressive reviews.
but will it wear well over time? dunno
I see new ones on ebay for 265 ... that ain't near the deal Target did -

    Amdfan,

Could you depict this graphic with settings with BrazosTweaker v1.0.3 instead of PhenomMsrTweaker? I'm uncertain about the correspondance between the two apps on the AO522.

    Thanks,
    Harry

Hi. I'm gonna buy Asus 1015b for school. It got same spec with AO522. I was thinking if I can run TF2 smoothly on lowest possible setting. So, anyone had test TF2? What's FPS you got, and what setting?

Edit: Also, what about cod4 online?

i have tried brazos version, settings are the same as amdfan posted..
yu should change p0 , p1.... DIViDER AND VID..

my idle temp. on new settings do not lower ..it settles around 57 deg. celsius..how is that possible ?
5oomhz vs 800mhz and no temp. difference?
i found bottom voltag. dont go lower than 0.55 on 500 mhz = lockup!

Idle temps with AMD processors have always been a mystery. The real progress when tweaking voltage is the load temp.

70ish under load with 0.9-0.95v at 800-1000MHZ is good enough for me atm.

Looks like my fan died after 6 months. Overheats and shuts down now when it reaches 100 degC (coretemp). Anyone know where I can pick up a replacement fan (can't find it on google or ebay)? That'll save me the $40 shipping and 2-3weeks if I get it repaired under warranty. Thanks.

Be careful: the 1015b comes in both C-30 and C-50 versions. Make sure you get the right one. (In the US, I don't even know if we can get a C-50 1015b).

You'll probably actually get MUCH better framerates on the 1015b with the C-50, though, but not for a good reason. The 1015b's screen has roughly two thirds of the pixels to render (1024x600 vs. 1280x720 on the AO5220), which will take a lot of burden off of the GPU, but at the expense of picture clarity.

go with acer ..hd screen is good!!!
my fan broke too, in 2 months of use..i RMA.they fix it in one day..yu can google to buy replacement fan thou!
i will try top clock downclock later...
    ok i go 0.8 vid for p1 800mhz , default was 0.938
    and 0.9 vid for p0 1ghz, default was 1.125..
i make it permanent and test it...
now i reached 56 celsius on idle and 72 deg celsius instead of 78 on nfs world at ambient 20 deg. cels., must try other stable game for fps check...
i read somewhere that fan is off when around 55 deg. celsius, this must be tweaked too!
people i have good feelings about overclocking when it willbe possible
i think we can get 1.4 - 1.5 ghz easyli
