    well dude, you made a smart decision. great deal. I have to say that of course because i also bought a laptop thats similar m-6874h at staples...same specs more or less for 799.99 cad..

    some tips...download the beta 8.8 drivers and mod them using mobility modder.

    nvm the fact u cant play crysis on high because i have the solution..
    everygame i own i play maxed out at 1280x800..
    mass effect
    cod4
    crysis(some tweaks)looks very high though at 1280x800 over clocked to 553 core 720 mem..i get 20-30 fps but it looks just amazing
    san andreas
    grid-without shadows..

    ok if u wanna play crysis and show off that card use my config and tell me what u think...i set a few things too high so if it runs below 20 fps just change hdr settings to 0...or change the shader detail from (4=very high) to (2-3 medium or high)

    all i gotta same is **** still...not sure why it runs so well even though it looks very high..

    just copy that junk...dont change anything..especially the budget memory setting..

    open the crysis folder and open a cfg file with notepad...or just make a new notepad file...and name it system.cfg or just system..

    but yea some things u will notice is the object detail is crazy high..everything is high detail....shadows look like downgraded medium shadows...and the hdr and god rays look very high...and um yea this is the best config i could find and edit for the 2600...

    try it out and tell me what fps your getting...curious...btw u might only get 20fps if your not overclocked..but then again if u tried very high settings at 1280x800 u would get about 5fps or less...

    also dont bother changing to performance settings...i didnt notice a diff in anything...benchmarks games ect...in fact it lowers the quality and performace in source games...

    the stock drivers got me about 7069 in 3dmark 05...using the desktop ones i got 7370...(the diff is like overclocking 30mhz) pretty big diff..

    I copyed and pasted your settings into the original CFG file on the demo and I can't really tell difference to my old LOW-MEDIUM settings... I got 15-20 frame rate while playing on your settings.

    effects are lowish
    shadows lowish
    detail is very high
    everything else is very high cept for motion blur..

    ill post some photos if u want comparing very high ....high...then mine...

    No I copyed exactly what you posted opened up the Crysis demo and under the only CFG file I replaced that text with yours. It is actually dipping to 13-14 frames and a few graphical errors like the flare had no fire, etc.

    Yeah show me some pictures!

    did you turn v sync off in the game or in catalyst or both....? cuz i cant find the option in vista or catalyst. also cant wait to see what you get in cod4 cuz im interested in playing that game..

    the game looks a lot better, i noticed what i did wrong, but it is like 6-20 frame rate specially in fighting it dropped to 6-10....

    i also got the same laptop from Best Buy yesterday and am completely satisfied. I didn't expect to play Crysis well but at least TF2 runs smooth on high settings.

    you can disable most graphic settings like v-sync, AA, etc. in the game itself.

    i dont recommend using it though cuz u will prob get like 4 frames per sec..but as far as detail in the light on objects goes...the first config gives u the most detail possible in the game...vs the washed out texture look of med low....it also gives you hdr rendering...changes the look of the water the trees everything... also changes the draw distance so u can play it without seeing a slide show...and since i have the same laptop ...i know u dont get more than 20fps average in medium settings...too get a high and very high quality look with 20-25 fps...no comment..

    i find hdr looks good for water..but makes everything else look kinda blurred out...just change hdr off completely and change saao to 0...u should get 30 fps and it will look like its on medium...but have the very high detail on textures...

    when i first played crysis i was suprised it ran all very high except shadows and shaders too low..at about 20 to 25 fps dx10...

    i tried it on high got about 9 fps...

    tried some configs but noticed the detail on objects was low..no fine details..

    so im just happy i made a config that has all the **** that makes crysis look great...and still get 20 plus fps.. spend more time tuning the graphics than playing the **** game..

    btw if u want i can give u a config...that u want..just load the game in very high...and pick out the diff for medium that u want and ill make the config for u...

    Huh. I didn't have to go that far into the settings with Crysis. I just set everything to medium at 1280x800 and everything ran on average around 30 fps. It would drop down, sometimes to a crawl, during intense sections.

    Don't bother with the Performance Test in DMC4. Just test the game while playing it. You should notice that it plays with practically no visible lag.

    I tried the DMC4 demo and with all the settings I could find on Very High it seemed like it was all in slow mo, so I turned it down to all LOW and it ran smooth as a whistle.

    When I put all Crysis' settgins to MEDIUM and play on 1280x800 it ranges from 10-30.

    i just tested that one..looks great...i got lows of 19 highs of 31..avg 25...on battery power and no overclocking...all i can say is **** getting a 2000 dollar laptop..spending 1000 extra to play a crappy game like crysis...u gotta be a complete moron..

    should i be getting less then 30 fps in tf2 during intense action? cuz thats what i get and it stinks.

    your card is messed up then cuz i have the same one...and i could underclock it to 400...and still not get 10 fps on medium

    my last config looks still much better than medium and is at least 10 fps faster than all med settings...what do u want...ultra high at 90fps...u got a 900 dollar laptop not a cray supercomputer

    tim lmao...dude its just for that game crysis...but other games are similar..
    there are configs for just about every game..just google them

    crysis is unique because u can more or less pick and choose exactly what u want for the game ...mix and match till your happy..

    with a little reading and effort...i got cryis playing and looking better than high settings without buying a 1400 dollar laptop..well 1700 after taxes and ****..i saved 1000 dollars with a tiny bit of effort

    the hd 2600 for this generation is a very good card and theres no need to get a 8800 gts or higher...crysis was programmed with nothing in mind except graphics they added features that kill performance and only give a edge in graphics that only a eagle could spot...since im human i cant...my eyes cant notice extreme detail when im running and shooting in the game..

    if u guys want help with this card ill try to help otherwise dont post about it

    u cant dude...u cant use it in other games

    what fps do you get in cod4? do you use a custom cfg? also do you play tf2 or bf2? do you have custom cfgs for those games? thanks for your help

    I just use ATI's latest driver, nothing special. Do you mean what's my 3Dmark06 score or do you really want 05? You can OC the HD 2600 really well, however, I haven't. I forgot what is the highest stable clocks. I recall 600 something and 700 something for the other number.

    the best config is unknown...just tell me what u want...

    do u want the ultra details on obejects...all or just some
    do u like hdr...
    do u care about sunshafts and god rays in the water.
    do u want jaggy shadows or perfect shadows
    do u want things around u blurred when u zoom up or not


    i personally like graphical details..and the atmosphere

    so i gave u one...u cant get one thats better cuz alot of the settings are absolute min..shadows cant get any worse...but at least there there
    deatails cant get any better...and hdr is there and can be changed till u like the look of it without losing fps...

    getting ultra high details in objects costs like 1.5 fps...so its worth taking
    hdr look great but takes like 5 fps
    god rays and sun shafts ake almost no diff
    shadows should be set to the lowest otherwise u lose alot of fps

    basically u can set everything to very high except shadows and shaders...if ur happy with that keep it..

    if u want just the major improvents in detail from shaders then ask..
    if u want ultra detailed shadows get a diff card

    otherwise u have no choice really..
    shadows that look like shadows..
    and detail that look very high without a big cost in fps
    enviroment stuff like hdr is an option...if u want 5 fps extra or hdr ask

    Obviously my laptop is screwed up... I can't even play the Crysis demo on 1280x800 resolution and everything on MEDIUM, shoot I can barely run it with half LOW and half MEDIUM...

    I can't find an update for my driver or graphics card and everything else is up to date...

    What is wrong with it...

    That's normal. I don't know where Ryane0840 is getting those framerates with those settings, but to me his claims seem ridiculas. He has obviously not played through the most demanding parts of the game.

    For my DDR2 HD 2600 1024x768 (DirectX9) is the only realistic option for me to have good framerates throughout the game. If you want to run at 1280x800 at decent framerates (which may be possible with the extra bandwidth of DDR3 memory), I think you should try my modified low shader setting, along with most others on low. Honestly, Crysis is much more fun once you get good framerates (30+ average) and forget about tweaking graphics settings.

    Clear your system config file the Crysis folder in Program Files (you can't use the one in My Documents) and replace it with this (the rest of my Crysis settings post is on page 5).

    q_shaderfx=0,

    This shader setting avoids the settings that cripples the framerates later in the game. You can change q_shadervegetation=0 to 1 for most of the game with very little framerate impact, but it knocks about 10 fps off once you get to parts of the ice levels.

    My other settings are all low appart from sound, water, physics and volumetric effects. It runs at good framerates throughout the game and looks fine.

    I don't know how you can claim that, the 8800 GTS is at least twice as powerful as the HD 2600. If I were going to buy a gaming laptop for the future, then I would be looking at least at a 8800 GTS.

    Just wanted to give an update on my Crysis performance. It seems to be getting worse...

    Resolution : 1280x800
    Settings : all LOW

    20-30 frame rate lowest being 15 and highest being 40.

    this is only the demo, i have heard that the actual game runs a bit smoother but still.

    if i can't run a steady 20+ frame rate and at least have the graphics looking decent then i won't buy this game.

    what if i overclock my cpu and gpu?

    I tried DX10 again, and in the same area I was definately getting lower framerates than DX9 (5 or more fps less). Just try the settings I said I run it at and see how that is. It should run well at 1024x768 without overclocking your DDR3 HD 2600.

    X360proGamer: Crysis isn't that great a game anyway. The first part is great because it's fairly free-roaming and you can do what you want to achieve the objections (though the stealth armor selection trumps everything). Later on, it's a linear progression. Basically, what you see in the demo is the solid part of Crysis. True, it has great eye-candy, but that's about it.
