Honestly, I thought that at first. But how much you enjoy Crysis is a lot down to how you play it in my opinion; sure you can just use stealth most of the time and bypass most of the enemies, but once you start playing with the action and using the suit to its fullest it is much more fun and very replayable because of the freedom in the game. It's not a pure action FPS like COD4 where everyone gets a very similar game experience, to a certain extent you have to make Crysis fun. It's definately not just eye-candy.
-
One part of me knows that I should just enjoy the game and the other wants me to game, I keep seeing all these people with hardcore gaming laptops and I just feel sorta jealous that I don't.
I should just be happy, lot's of people wish they could play Crysis at all on decent settings : ). -
X...dude..
U need to change some things to run crysis well
drivers should be changed
patch 1.2 added to crysis
dx9 should be used
all my benchmarks i did was in dx10..if it was dx9 id get about 4 more fps avg
when i first bought the laptop i downloaded the demo and i got similar performance to yours..but after i bought the game and downloaded the patch and played in dx9 the natural framerates jumped up by about 10 fps..
dx10
ill tell u what my all low settings no overclocking bench mark avg right now.
min.28.79
max.61.32
avg.42.57
so yea thats that...all low at 1280x800 u get 43 fps avg
all med at 1280x800 u get 19 fps avg
with my first config u get 21 fps avg and it looks (veryhigh/high)
just use 1024x768 with it...if ur below 23 -
Steven 87..
saying that my claims are ridic... man why would i lie..i really dont care about this game enough to lie..im giving very honest info.. and btw i said i own the game...and what graphic intensive parts are u talking about...ive played the first 5 levels with those very high config settings at 1280 x 800...and it averages 20 fps..sure it dips to 15 for a second during a major gun fight..but when u are playing the mojority of the game with these settings its at about 24fps..
so if you want tell me how to record a video or screen shots.f12..show me how too paste them here and i will show u what im talking about...
the ddr3 version i have might just be the reason i only lose 5 fps going from 1024x768 to 1280 x 800...the only thing that this game brings the fps down is the draw distance...which i edited...the shadows (medium and up) which are very low rez in the config. and the motion blur when sniping(which is also turned off)..everything else is maxed out...infact for a true very high i can enable pom and still avg 18 fps...but i need to play it in 1024x768 for 22 fps.. which just insnt worth it imho..
your config btw doesnt change anything really...mine is cubans config modified...it is a well known config to improve performance...
i was just showing X that he could run the game very high at decent frames..and if he turned off hdr...he would get wicked graphics and get 22-30 fps...
i can make my own configs now because i more or less know what setting hit the performance...99 percent of the crysis eyecandy can be enabled without loss of framerate..maybe 10 fps
so at 1280x800 i average over 40 fps...i have 10fps to spare..
my config takes about 16-18 fps..i dont mind playing at 25fps..25fps and 40 fps to me make no diff..anything below 25fps is too slow and will cause gameplay interferance imo..
if u guys want ill tryn make a config that avgs 30fps in the benchmark...with max detail..
then ill make a config that runs at 30 fps with as many effects possible in the benchmark
brb
lol this ones pretty sweet...its basically all low...shadows added..hdr added..shader detail on objects looks high..and thats it very good fps..first run i got 28.11 avg..so basically 30 fps avg after the second run in the benchmark....i said i could do it..only took 10 min

i dont like that config actually it gave me like 15 fps..and looks mediocre
still the best is my first one
so i stand by my conclusion...I can play this dumb game with very high graphics..on a hd2600... -
so do you think you could get cod4 to play at around 50 fps?? considering that you get crysis to play at 30 somehow..also do most games have hdr that you can turn off to gain fps? sry ive never edited/ looked into editing config files for games. mainly im interested in increasing performance in bf2 and tf2. its wierd i get good fps in bf2 (anywhere from 45-100) yet it still plays stuttery a bit. in tf2 i drop to 20 or 25 fps in firefights and it makes it quite hard to kill people..

echo FPS Config Loaded!
*****************************************...
Now, after making the config, go to:
STEAM->GAMES, and RIGHT CLICK on TF2, and go to PROPERTIES->LAUNCH OPTIONS.
enter this:
"-dxlevel 81 -width 1280 -height 768"
HAVING DXLEVEL 81 is really important
NOTE, the width and the height are just what I use (for my widescreen monitor). You can remove those settings (or shorten them to -w and -h), but I put them in there to illustrate that you don't need commas between commands, and can use those commands to change your resolution to something custom (ie: 640x480). I use them because the game was resetting my resolution whenever I started it. ALSO: If you screwed up your game with some settings, if you enter:
-autoconfig
in the launch options, and the start the game (and get rid of the offending autoexec before game start) , it will reset all of your options to default.
NOW, once you're done with your autoexec.cfg make sure you make it "Read-Only" in the properties. This *should* stop the game from arbitrarily resetting your resolution, among other things.
Ok, that's the main config.
Now, if you're a n00b and don't know *** to do with the autoexec commands, but still want to increase your fps, read this next bit.
Copy/Paste all of the shlt between the asterisks into notepad. Change the "save as type" to "all types" and then Go to file->save as, and save it in:
Steam->Steam Apps->ACCOUNTNAMEHERE->Team Fortress 2->TF->CFG
and then save it as "autoexec.cfg"
NOTE: If you don't change the save type to "all types" it'll just make it a text file, and it won't work.
So, that about sums it up. I know I forgot to detail about what some of the video settings do... If you have a card with a decent memory, turning those up won't really decrease your fps by a lot, so you can do that. I run everything but shadows on low, though. So, if you want to change those settings, delete em from the config and set them in game, or learn the commands from wikipedia, and edit the ones that I have already in the config under "actual game settings".
Let me know if it works for you.
PSS: This will make spies look strange/blackish when they're in the "semi-transparent" stage... That is normal, and I prefer it to the typical "semi-transparent" look, as how it's easier to see them if they're black and not half invisible. It will also make the uber charge a dull red/blue. Also, if you tab out, or change any major settings while in game, the textures almost all go black. This can be fixed by typing "retry" in console.
yea i think i could easily get cod4 to play at 50 fps...but i dont need it to..i get 30-40 fps with ultra settings everything on expect aa...
crysis is quite a bit diff..way harder to get 30fps and look good with this card..I find that simply using cubans custom config level 1...and taking out hdr..and turning up shader details makes the game look fantastic and will play with an average of 30..kinda like the last config i posted..that one btw is like medium except instead of 19fps u get 30.. same with my high config..u get 25fps instead of 15 fps.. -
can u give me the config that you use for cod4 cuz in cod2 i was getting between 15 and 25 fps so i dont even want to know what i will get in cod4....
-
no i dont play cod2...everygames plays fine on my graphics card...only game i use a config for is crysis...crysis thats it...
-
what processor do you have? kinda strange how we have the same cards yet i have alot more trouble playing games at good fps then you....can your connection have anything to do with your fps/ stuttering in game....? do you play tf2? if so what fps do you get?
-
downloading call of duty 4 demo now, will report back my results.
any idea how to pull up the frame rate box on call of duty 4? -
I would use FRAPS, it quite good.
-
lol ryane, speak normally without the ................... every ................. second ....................... word please?
-
no lol..i give up...could care less now..
i dont have a good processor it 2 ghz t8870 or something says centrino but its a core 2duo at 2 ghz...i think u might just have crappy drivers...i dont have some magical hd 2600 u should get the exact same fps or close too it..
im not sure why my system plays crysis so well though...maybe its the drivers im using maybe its the current settings in catalyst maybe its the reg tweaks...i honestly dont know...
I first bought a laptop with a 7000m integrated card thinking i could at least play older games...it did pretty good but i wanted to play more..so after 3 months of that laptop i told the source i wanted to upgrade the laptop and that it was in mint condition ect lol...bs mostly..got it swapped then 2 days later took it back for a refund..nothing they could do lmao...pretty dishonest i know..then i went to staples i wanted to spend 1100 on a laptop with the best graphics card possible...seen a acer with a 8600m gs and then the gateway with a hd2600 didnt know which was better...but since the gateway was 100 cheaper at the time then 100 less 4 days later...i bought it and found to my suprise it had gddr3 and was quite a bit better...even better than a 8600m gt...so im content knowing i paid 800 for a cheap laptop that will play all the latest games with max detail minus 1 or two settings..it looks great...and its like having a ps3 and portable comp in one...now im looking at the gateway 7811 or whatever it is...it has a high rez screen and a 9800mgts but for 1600 it just aint worth it.. -
The ATI MOBILITY RADEON HD 2600 graphics with 512MB GDDR3 can handle Call of Duty 4 on max settings or near max settings.

what driver do you have? how did you install it...? i think that my install did not go well with the latest drivers cuz it came up with an error when i tried to install the new driver with mobility modder...although i restarted and everything seems okay....sorta...when i go into device manager then display adapter then check my driver it says 8.512.0.0 and driver date 7/3/08 and the newest one is 7/21/08.....ive tried reinstalling but i get the same error.
do you install it with mobility modder and this driver
http://game.amd.com/us-en/drivers_catalyst.aspx?p=vista64/common-vista64
?....cuz thats what i did..but i get the error like i said, i have to run it again to remember what the error was. do you think it would be a good idea if i just put a clean install of vista(the one that came with my comp) and then tried to update the driver? im thinking of doing that.....but am not sure
also....i definitely think there is some kind of problem cuz like i said cod2 played horribly even on low settings (40 45 fps max) but it was still stuttery -
lol
dude im not sure what driver im using...i downloaded the dna driver th stock one, the 8.8 beta..and the 8.7 desktop one...i benchmarks all of them and the dna and 8.8 one performed the best...
8.8 =7318 marks
dna=7276 marks
stock=7077 marks
just turn off uac
download 8.8 beta drivers
mod the files...
goto the ati support folder in c drive...start setup and install them
gives u better performance my best in ccs stress test 1024x768 was 175fps...which beat a desktop hd 2600 xt at the exact same settings..i overclocked to 553mhz core 720 mem..
oooooooo and unistall drivers before u install new ones... -
that last part could very well be the kicker to why i got an error.
-
Check the GPU driver's guide for proper instructions on uninstalling old drivers and installing new drivers.
-
question when i uninstall the catalyst program in add or remove programs then restart shouldnt my graphics be all messed up since there should be no driver installed??? cuz my graphics look the same, as if i didnt even uninstall anything...
actually i think what happened was it reverted back to the driver that came with the computer cuz when i look under device manager/ display adapter and check my driver it says 8.452.0.0 and date of driver is 1/9/08...so how do i uninstall that driver? -
It shoudl be in add or remove programs, it should say ''ATI display drivers''uninstall that and Catalyst control center.
-
hmmm it doesnt say ATI display drivers or anything like that anywhere....it did have the catalyst control center but it said it had nothing to uninstall.
-
:-O What have you done!?! Do you even have any drivers installed?
-
ya i have the default ones installed
to the right there is an option to "turn windows features on or off" would it be in there?... -
Nope...try installing them again? O_O
-
how do i install the default ones if they came with the computer?
-
Ok I am bad with the gateway web site. But it should be on there.
-
ok i found it on the gateway website, i put the serial number of my computer in and it shows things to download but the ati driver is not the exact one(its a big newer)....you think that would be okay to install that one then uninstall it...
edit....
nvm they are the same, they just say different dates of release for some reason.. -
Yes, at least thats what I would try.
-
well i installed it but there still isnt anything like "ati display drivers" under add or remove programs....the ATI catalyst is back though under add or remove programs....thinking about just doing a complete reboot
-
That is very odd indeed. You can try going to display adapters in hardware devices and click the driver tap, then click uninstall.
-
wont that uninstall that device completely? will it reinstall when i reinstall the 8.7 catalyst driver? i just dont want to really mess things up more then they already are
edit_____
theres a check box for delete the driver software for this device.....do i check that? will that only unistall the driver from my system and not the whole device -
yes you want to uninstall the whole device. Then reboot, then install new drivers.
-
ug.....so i uninstalled, now was reinstalling 8.7 through mobility modder but when it is installing i get an "application install: install package failure!"(the same error i got the first time i tried to install this driver)....the error came right at the time when the ati catalyst install manager was installing the world of warcraft free trial.....i dont know what i should do now..
EDIT
i fixed it, i just clicked customize instead of express install and unchecked the world of warcraft free trial and it worked....my question is was it okay for me to try to run the install again even after i got a failed install the first time or should i have uninstalled the failed installed catalyst then restarted...? -
hmmm is the trial compulsory?
-
no read my edit of the above post
-
well hopefully its okay, i restarted, the driver is installed as far as i can tell, although when i go to device manager then display adapter and look at the driver its exactly the same as it was, same date same number
if anyone has this comp and updated their driver can they confirm that this is what it says under device manager/display adapters/driver:
driver date: 7/3/08
driver version:8.512.0.0
also under add or remove programs there still isnt an option to remove ati display drivers, not sure if there should be now or not... -
Ar, try playing some games and see how it goes?
-
hmmm played tf2 and in extreme fights was getting minimum fps at 30, never really went below that. before i would have at times 25 and sometimes a little lower then that, although it could have been the map too. still need to test to see. need to reinstall cod2 or cod4 demo and see how that goes...thanks for all thehelp
-
I know my config file is nothing special, basically I just started at low shaders for good framerates and adjusted it so it looks ok. Little things like AA on flash icons, shading on metal, terrain and glass, as well as dynamic sky and correcting the colour of grass so it matches terrain. There is also a problem with medium water not being rendered properly with low shaders in the aircraft carrier, so I corrected that. It has the performance of low shaders, but doesn't look as bad. Your config may give improved performance considering the settings, but it is irrelevant if you're getting those framerates.
Having said that, I did try picking out the shadow setting in your config file, and it does give you shadows at a fairly low framerate cost (about 5-8 fps). I tried this (my shader config for high framerates and your low-cost shadows) and it seems ok (generally 25-35 fps) but I think I prefer the extra framerate without shadows.

I briefly covered HD2600 overclocking in the M-6864FX thread.
If you need more detail, let me know, but I basically followed the stuff in the excellent "undervolting and ATI GPU overclocking" thread.
Basically, on the M-6851 config (T5550/4GB/ATI 2600) using Vista 32-bit, clean install, Catalyst 8.7 drivers+mobility modder, I was able to get near 4000 3DMark 06 @ 1280x1024. on the M-6851 config (again, looking at my Catalyst 8.7 + Vista 32-bit) 1280x800 was almost exactly 10% higher than 1280x1024 rates.
That being said, I was getting near 4450 3DMark06 on 1280x800.
Stable, and safety, I stayed around the 3900-4000 mark, running I think 621/748 clocks, and even 600/700 for even more margin of safety.
600/702 clocks gave me 4164 3DMark06 @ 1280x800, meaning about 3700-3800 3DMark06 @ 1280x1024, which isn't bad for $750!!
Just watch the temps - I try not to exceed 70c on the GPU, and undervolted a bit on the CPU, because I noticed the heatsink arrangement was transferring alot of the heat from the CPU, over to the GPU.
That being said, 600/702 GPU clocks, and 1.000v on the 11x multiplier, gave me max of 59c on CPU and 69c on the GPU after (2) consecutive 3DMark06 test runs. These were run using RMClock on Max Performance, locking the multiplier to 11x in RMClock, 1.000v on the 11x multipler, ATI PowerPlay disabled in Catalyst Control Center.
I'm curious if Vista 64-bit does any better - just about ready to image the laptop out, and do a clean Vista 64-bit install.
T -
I got just over 4100 @ 1280x1024 with 640/730 not too stable in game though, so I have settled for 620/720 as mentioned before. Either way I dont have the same notebook.
-
Just downloaded RMClock and AMD GPU Tool or whatever and neither work. AMD GPU Tool says that the Kernel driver failed to load or something...
-
-
Also remember to turn powerplay off when OC'ing.
-
When I try to run RMClock it says
"cannot load or install RTCore64 driver." -
On the M-6851, it seems the ATI RAM clock can be pushed alot further than the core clock - I can run mine at mem clock of 848, before artifacts start showing up. To keep it safe, I try to stay under 792, usually 748.
Core clock, though, you're right around where it is - low-to-mid 600's
T -
The HP 8510p with WUXGA screen. So I sort of do need the OC o keep the frame rate up. The HD 2600 does do pretty well. WUXGA+ in CSS and PES 2008 with high settings and no AA/AF. Also in mass effect with WSXGA+ with high settings with no AA/AF. I need to get more games lol...i lack the time though. What are your GPU temps like?
