I've only had dealings with the integrated parts offered by both companies. I found the ATI X1100 to be a better performer than the nVIDIA 6150. However, ATI has not done a good job of supporting their integrated cards. Driver for the X1100 are not available in order to upgrade past Catalyst 6.8; very frustrating for many notebook users.

nVidia + Intel Combo FTW!!!
-
I'm using NVIDIA GeForce 6600. I want to upgrade, but the games I play right now don't really require any more graphics power, so I'm fine with it for now.
I'm an Intel + NVIDIA fanboy! -
From the poll, we can see that both perform just about equal performance..
I don't think that one is better than another.. They will keep growing and maintain the stability..
Unless one of them is bankrupt we can't really tell which is better
But when we compare name, i think ATI is cooler
AMD-ATI is better than Intel-Nvidia (too long) -
Actually ATi used to have the stronger mobile share, but the 7series has put a closer margin to that result
from: http://www.reghardware.co.uk/2006/12/06/q3_06_graphics_market/
ATI did beat its rival in the mobile market. Its share fell to 24 per cent, and while Nvidia reached 19 per cent in the quarter, it did so with a big, eight per cent gain. It will be interesting to see whether Nvidia can maintain this momentum during Q4. If so, it would likely push past ATI in this category too.
[mentioned later in article intel still holds lead in this sector around 40%]
Never saw this thread b4 but i guess ill post:

How do you even pronounce NVIDIA? Is it En-Vidia, or Ne-Vidia?
But Intel is better than AMD.
Edit Go Wikipedia! It told me that you pronounce NVIDIA as En-Vidia, as in envy. -
wow this is soo close. im looking to buy a laptop and i still can't make up my mind which one to get. i heard ati was better back then and nvidia is getting better now. dunno....still hard for me.
-
close fight
157 vs 159@_@ -
It's "en-vidia", and it's not really a random name.
Vidia/video/vision/visual, see a certain trend here?
Not sure about the N, but it could mean "in", as in, you're *in* those visions (because games are interactive and all).
Or it could be the N just sounded cool. (or because it sounds a bit like envy then?)
In any case, I'd say it's a pretty clever name. It gives you a hint at what they do (graphical stuff), and it sounds like a name, rather than an abbreviation. (ATI could mean anything. It's just short for a long and boring-sounding name)
Intel is a pretty good name too. It sounds like a word, rather than a bunch of letters. And AMD suffers from the same problem as ATI. Cool products, but their names aren't really names. Just abbreviations. -
I like NVidia better because of how they relate to their customers. I have just had better experiences with them, and I see their name all over the place as sponsors. Plus they have a much better logo, and i'm a sucker for that type of thing. -
I'm turned off by nVidia's large advertising campaign. I was looking at the direction book to a new game the other day and it said "This game has been tested exclusively on nVidia's graphics hardware. We do not guarantee compatibility with graphics cards from any other company."
Suddenly that same hatred that I have toward Microsoft started burning within me toward nVidia. -
Im no fanboy of anykind, I just get the product with the best preformance/most stability/best price... But tbh, im being turned off by all that nVidia S*** one has to see everywhere... I had before this lappy, an Acer with a Radeon9700 gfx and it impressed me very much and I stuck with that one and now I got a X1800, mostly because I couldnt get the 7900GS, without ordering online... But I must say that im also impressed by this card... Its the same discussion everywhere around the net, AMD vs. Intel, nVidia vs. ATi, but why discuss what is the best, just take a **** look on what they can preform compared what one shall use or the price of the product? I dont give a S*** if its named amd, intel, ati or nvidia, just the hardware can do what I want it to, thats what counts...
One may have their oppenion on whats the best, but really, thoes fanboys should go home
Not gaining anything by sticking to one specific productline... I mean, what when amd launched their counterpart to the core technology, then i think there will suddenly be more amd fanboys that used to be intel, also the otherway around when intel launches their new "kick-in-the-but", know a few of thoes... -
My 3dmark=1053.....In 3dmark 2k1, like a Trident CyberAladdin would even run 3dmark06
I have no preference for either ATI or NVIDIA, though I was impressed by the xpress200. I picked out the computer for my father, and my borther used the card to play games on and I was suprised by what it would run. Didn't have much luck finding drivers for that particular card, maybe it was just me.
I'd buy either card, though for some reasont the computers I look at usually have NVIDIA cards in them. -
It's difficult to pick one between the two. I usually choose cards for their price/performance ratio, but actually I do prefer ATI, because I find that they have a better video quality.

is this true
my teacher told me that many games perform better on a nividia compared to ati -
-
I started this thread almost a year ago and it still stands at almost 50%. Amazing. I wonder what would happen if there was a third competitor.
-
lol it is amazing that after 371 votes it is only 3 in it
-
Throughout my nerdly career I have owned a few of each and never felt there was much difference. I've never compared two similar cards but for every single GPU I have ever had in a desktop or laptop it was the last component I had to worry about. None of my ATI's or Nvidia's have broken, we've always had a fair amount of success finding appropriate drivers, and I don't think we've had to call support once.
I don't buy computers based on the brand of GPU, I just assume it will work no matter which company made it. -
Weird that ATI are now ahead in the poll, even considering NVidia's new cards.
-
nVidia has better platform support over AMD/ATI when it comes to FreeBSD , Linux and Windows.
So I always buy laptop with nVidia instead of AMD/ATI. -
Wow, almost tied. AGAIN!
I haven't been updated on the latest video cards. How's the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M on a T61 with 3GB ram? I know it's not a gaming card, but won't it manage BF2 or more demanding games? -
which one of these is better for gaming?
ATI X2300 vs. GF 7600
thanks. -

I think nvidia and ATI should merge and defeat Microsoft -

mattireland It used to be the iLand..
nVidia any day - definitely!
I've had some very bad experiences with ATI......... -
NVIDIA rules for sure
-
Ooh, I just broke the tie in ATI's favor (213 vs. 212). If you're asking about preference, otoh, it would of swung in the opposite direction.
Nvidia makes better cards and offer better support across the board. -
-
ii voted and nvidia takes the lead
i suppor nvidia
but this may be because i own one in my laptop
any ways ATI doesnt have great support for ubuntu
GO NVIDIA (( haha im biased cant help it )) -
yep... nvidia is better for gaming and stuff while ati is really struggling to sell some product whichc they renamed... most of the times....
-
I have always used nVidia and I have never owned an ATI. I have liked all of my nVidia cards, they perform well and I have never had any problems. I do not think that I will ever switch to ATI.
-
Is there anything that ATI does better than Nvidia at this point in time? I'm struggling to think of one
-
dude come on.. the nvidia go 7950GTX dominates.. only few notebook cards can come close to it!!!
-
oh by the way.. nvidia is winning!!!
-

I've only ever owned one Nvidia card and 7 ATi cards, not through preference, just the way things have gone.
I am used to ATi drivers etc. though. -
The only ATI card I ever owned was a Radeon 9800 Pro for my desktop...which was good in its time...but nVidia takes the cake for me with no questions asked.
-
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
unfortunately for ati, nvidia is by far the best option at the entire notebook sector (perhaps excluding integrated graphics)
8600m gt has no ati competition, nor does the 7950gtx.
8400m gt also has no competition.
in desktops, while nvidia claims the crown for having the fastest gpu, it doesn't really matter because no one spends $1000 on a gpu. as of recently both ati and nvidia have good competitive offerings for desktops.
i had a geforce 3 ti ? (i dont remember) - great card.
i have an x800 pro desktop - also great card.
and now i have an 8600m gt - best so far (but not leagues away from my most recent desktop, like the x800 was from the geforce 3) -

ATI is going to do pretty well this summer. They're releasing their HD 2000 series (2600 XT series will be pretty good from what I've read from magazines)

Sneaky_Chopsticks Notebook Deity
I read it from PC Pro magazine.
They were talking about that video card compared with nVidia.
In the article- Review on the Mobility HD 2600 XT.
And did a comparison with the desktop video cards.
Nvidia's 8800 GTS, GTX, VS ATI Radeon HD 2900 XT -
masterchef341 The guy from The Notebook
ati is not doing good this summer. its already mid summer and still no one has an hd 2600xt...
at least they appear to be coming soon. once they show up, nvidia and ati will share the market for gaming notebooks 15" and under. at that point, nvidia will only own the 17"+ gaming market (some 17" notebooks have midrange cards) instead of the ENTIRE notebook market.
and even though nvidia has released a more complete range of desktop cards, i think that for the most part, ati and nvidia are both competitive there. ati's 3 big cards: 2400, 2600, and 2900 cover a pretty wide market as a trio.
personally, i feel more comfortable when both sides are competitive. it forces them to lower prices and come up with new ways of generating brand loyalty. i really liked it when owners of ALL radeon cards got a free copy of hl2 dm and hl2 lost coast. that sort of thing is a really cool gesture. i hope nvidia treats me well while i am on their dime. -
I have nVIDIA and am quite satisfied with it. Also will be getting nVIDIA in my new notebook. I never have had an ATI card. Before my current nVIDIA I had a Matrox card - back when there were more than two companies on the mainstream market. That wasn't a bad card either, just didn't have enough VRAM to keep up with demand.

i want my 3dfx voodoo line

I had a 3DFX voodoo! my history is mixed, started with a Dell (it says XPS on the case?) Rage (it still works, beat that for build quality!(dont come with vacuum tubes)), on to a Compaq with a Voodoo, a Dell 9200 midrange geforce FX desktop and a Fuji Lifebook C Intel GMA 830 laptop (great gpu
runs Warcraft III FT at max ingame settings at XGA) , Homebuilt radeon 9800pro, currently on a VAIO geforce go 6400 and moving to geforce go 7950GTX in Sli
