So many names that sound like indies and TC mods here. I would love to hear a bit more about some of these.

The idea of a Franz Kafka adventure game at once intrigues me and repels me. He's definitely in the running for the status of my favorite author, and I want this to be the best game ever, but how do you capture "Description of a Struggle" in a computer game? I actually started to answer this question before I realized I was rambling and ought to give up on it.

I'm modestly excited for Reds, i.e. Double Fine Adventure, but I've soured on the idea of Kickstarter for studios that have their own resources to fund their projects, and my enthusiasm for this game has been adversely affected by that. If it's good, that's good. If it sucks, what does Double Fine care? They've already been paid.

That's a huge list. More than I could possibly play in one year, at least play significantly. Then again, I tend to play a few games a lot rather than a lot of games less.

    My list...

Europa Universalis IV - not sure if I'll get it right away, but certainly following
Rome 2 Total War - Still have Empire and Napoleon in my backlog, but the Roman and Medieval periods are more my cup of tea to begin with. Might get if it isn't buggy at release - that's a big "if".
Nitronic Rush's successor. I forget its name right now, but it's definitely one I'm anticipating. The original was a lot of fun (and is free for those of you who missed it initially).

Two-thirds strategy, one-third racing. Not too surprising...

    Grim Dawn

Grim Dawn is the successor to Titan Quest, which is the best aRPG that I have ever played. If you were disappointed with D3, then pick up a copy of Titan Quest gold from Amazon for $8. By the time you beat TQ, you'll be ready for Grim Dawn.

Otherwise, Path of Exile is moving to open beta on January 23. I've only played on the test weekends so far, but the game looks great, and the skill tree is amazing.

Don't care about D3, it's just another Activision raped game. It certainly wasn't made for gamers, it was made for investors.

Anyway, how does Titan Quest compare to Torchlight 2? I own Titan Quest and the expansion, but haven't tried it since it just came with a bundle don't have interest in installing it, unless it's worth playing.

The Diablo series are excellent for click targeting, where you can actually click on your target to hit it (or shift-click to keep hitting enemies). In Torchlight, I found clicking on enemies and making all of my hits count to be a bit of a pain, and if I remember, shift+click only autotargeted enemies if I had an enemy targeted when I started holding the button, otherwise it was just directional, and with flying enemies, it was a pain to figure out where their hitboxes were in relation to me. A couple other aRPG's I've tried were virtually unplayable because of click targeting.

How is the click targeting in Titan Quest? Like several million other people, I got it in the Humble THQ bundle, and since I'm too cheap to buy Diablo 3 (or anything from full-prices-for-the-first-decade-after-release Blizzard) and didn't buy Torchlight, I could enjoy having an aRPG as an occasional time killer, especially if it's light on story and strategy so I can make it an occasional game rather than a game I play from start to finish. However, if clicking to attack is a pain, that shoots it straight to the bottom of my gaming priority list.

The downfall of Diablo III has nothing to do with Activision though. It's Blizzard's own fault how the game turned out (though not a bad game per se).
Titan Quest is more old school although it was from 2005. But it's totally worth your time! And just play the expansion Immortal Throne as it includes the base game already.

I forgot about Sim City 5. I'm interested in it, but I don't know if I'll get it or not. In part it will depend on their choice of DRM. If it requires an Internet connection even for offline stuff, I probably won't get it - I don't trust my Internet connection to be that stable, so I'd skip it like I skipped Assassin's Creed 2. Even an Internet-at-startup check would almost certainly cause me to skip it.

But if they aren't onerous with the DRM, it looks really interesting. I've long thought that it would be cool to have more interactions with neighboring cities, and they're really expanding on that. Simulating individual Sims within the city also is a pretty cool feature - even if it does mean cities will likely be smaller on average. So, the online aspect does look nice. But a traditional single-player mode for those times when you're stuck at an airport or your ISP is making dial-up look like an upgrade, seems like a no-brainer of a feature.

Worst case, I already have Sim City 1, 3, and 4, and those aren't going away anytime soon.

    Bioshock Infinite
    SimCity
    Tomb Raider
    Rome Total War II
    Crysis 3
    Metro Last Light

These are my most anticipated for this year. I also am keeping an eye on Lost Planet 3 and Dead Space 3.

And then if Beyond Good & Evil 2 and Half Life 3 are announced this year I will implode.

The Tomb Raider and Bioshock: Infinite are the only two I'm really looking forward too. In the same vein, I'd really like an announcement for Fallout 4 before 2013 is out :D

The more I look at it, the more I'm thinking the same thing. Those two games look excellent. Of course as much as I gripe and moan about BF3, I will likely be buying BF4 this fall. But that's a long time away.

March is going to be an interesting month for gaming with Tomb Raider and Bioshock both being released.

I got suckered into that mess of a game at the beginning. The only thing I really wanted was some sort of community support so I didn't have to trek an hour just to meet up with friends in game, but what I got was a buggy, unfinished, hacked-up mess. To add insult to injury there was no way to get a refund since I bought so early. Just holding out for DayZ Standalone now.
