The BC2 section of the Steam forums is chock full of complaints about poor performance, bugs, and weapon inbalances. There is literally one guy from DICE working on patches for the PC version, and he stopped posting on the forums weeks ago.
They also have only one guy making all balance decision, and his decisions really seem to have nothing to do with what anybody actually wants. Take the AT4, for instance...it's the most risky launcher to use since you have to maintain a direct line of sight to your target, so you would expect it to have decent power as a tradeoff. Nope, he nerfed the hell out of it so it's no better than the RPG-7 or Carl Gustav.

Hmm, to bad. I thought they would of done a lot more for the PC community.
It seems less and less companies are putting out patches for there PC games when they have the same game for the console out too. And even less companies putting up there games for the PC at all.
And that's a real shame to, because I do about 85% of my gaming on the PC (except Multiplayer FPS's). -
I think that's what we all expected, considering this game was coming out in the aftermath of the MW2 clusterhump. We were disillusioned; we figured that no matter what, nothing could be worse than MW2 already was, and since BC2 promised dedicated servers, how bad could it be?
-
I hear ya, on numerous occasions i have ran right past an enemy hidden in the bushes, simply because they are so well camouflaged. Needless to say i was killed, then thinking how did i not see that guy.
-
LOL at Superman impression.
what settings is that on? it looks really square and boxy to me :S -
1440 x 900
Detail: Medium
Textures: Medium
Shadows: Low
Effects: Low
AA: 1x
AF: 1x
VSync: ON
HBAO: OFF
DX: 9.0
I can't crank much more out of the rig i'm playing on (in my signature), but I can get enough out of it for the game to run smooth enough for my liking. I'm more of a performance guy vs. eye candy, so I don't mind boxy looking debris etc. As long as my bullets hit, i'm fine

Anyone else played Port Valdez Conquest mode?? I just played a round on it and never even knew that mode for that map existed... there was a new vehicle which I had never seen before (Dune buggy type jeep with a mounted grenade launcher) and I got totally owned! Gonna go explore that a bit more...
-
It was added last patch and has a minigun turret too, which was pretty fun if enemy choppers ever got close enough. If only a building wasn't blocking part of its field of view the enemy wouldn't even try flying near it.
-
I played a bit last night and it was pretty fun.
I saw your screen shots AlyH, and I have never seen that map before (I thought it was because I always play rush), but I looked through the maps, and came across Atacama Desert for rush, and wonder why I haven't played that map yet.
Was the map added in a patch to rush or something? Needless to say, it was a pretty fun game. Kinda award though, I hate not knowing my way around a map. -
I think they added all modes to all maps with the last patch. They caught me by surprise too. I don't like Atacama rush though. Too big, and too much in favor of the defending team.
-
Ya, it was quite a big map. Definitely heaven for the Recon class.
I liked the map though, but ya, it definitely favors the defending team.
I had at least 10 or 12 kills before they managed to kill me in one of the building. -
Noob question here. I've bought a new laptop and now I'm downloading all my games from Steam (forgot to get their backups). Now I don't remember my BC2 cd-key if I enter my username and password at the game do I have to enter my cd-key also or will it be recognized?
-
if you go to library there should be an option under the bc2 tab to reveiw your licence keys
-
o yes didn't look there, thanks a lot
-
I think it's Atacama rush.... the one with basically a tankwar at the end, that map is so bright i can hardly see anything half of the time.
-
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
Is that the one with the ships in the desert? God I hate that map... It's like a bad Coolio song.. "been spending most our lives living in a snipers paradise"...
Bleh,
StevenX -
lol valparaiso and atacama desert are my favourite maps
-
lol, I have been using Atacama to try and get all my mine kills! Only 24 more to go!
-
I hate atacama desert as well, whether it be rush or conquest, i hate both. The distances are too long, especially if everyone on your team takes all the vehicles and doesn't leave one for you

trying to get back into bad company 2 but i keep losing connection midgame to ea servers and then it gets stuck on updating your stats.
Anyone had this problem? any solutions =( really getting me downand i was able to play this game flawlessly acouple od days ago -
I'm installing the game atm, and I'm at a point where it is asking me if I want to install punk buster support. I checked yes, and clicked finish. It has been at this screen for almost 10 minutes now. Is this normal?
-
No, exit that screen if you can. If the game is installed properly, then you can manually install PB yourself.
PunkBuster Online Countermeasures
Download it, run it, add BC2 and update it. -
Ill have to use the task manager to close the window.
-
Finished downloading all the patches. When I try to launch the game, I get the system error:
"The program can't start becayse XINPUT1_3.dll is missing from your computer. Try reinstalling the program to fix this problem."
Any idea how to fix this? Do I have to reinstall?
Edit: Nvm, I fixed it. -
Another random question. Since it wouldn't let me install punkbuster in the initial installation, how do I install it now?
-
PunkBuster Online Countermeasures
Click "Support" at the top, and download pbsetup.exe. -
Finally got all my mine kills last night! So that is all the insignias available to PC players at the moment. Hmmm, what to do now...
-
Play a good game? I suggest Battlefield 2, although odds are it will make you never want to come back to BC2 again.
-
Anyone know if that ridiculous friends list is still limited to 20 friends?
-
I shot someone point blank with an M1 Garand 5 times at center mass and they didnt die
. instead the guy whipped out an uzi and killed me in 2 shots...

A. Welcome to BFBC2.
B. Hit detection is one of the worst "features" of this game and makes it challenging to play.
C. There are some tweaks that are supposed to help. (although many kids take advantage of the "features".
D. Hope you have blood pressure medicine because it will make you ANGRY beyond belief... especially when your on servers that belong to hack masters that are milking everyone for every point (stats) they can get. They call it stat padding but really it should be called 'POINT FARMING'.. cause that's all it is. I am NO expert or pro gamer by any means but there are some servers that should just be shut down.
E. Be ready for flames when you call someone out on server. They scream and call you names and so forth. I dont have time for POWNERs so I report suspicious activity and let DICE decide.
Good Luck, StevenX -
Unfortunately sometimes its hard to determine between good/bad hit detection and cheating. I agree with the anger portion too. I blast someone with a 40mm grenade right at their feet, blast three or four shotgun blasts into their torso, and they shoot me with a couple bullets from a smg and I die and they walk away with 80% health.
While I find it hard to believe anyone above level 30 could be cheating, I swear I've walked up behind a high level 40 or level 50 and shoot them right in the back of the head several times and don't die. They turn around and pistol me dead with one shot.
An A10 warthog could unleash its gatling gun on some infantry and be shot down with a PP2000. In the BFBC2 universe, size doesn't matter... -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
@HT - High level folks cheat too. If you read on some of the forums concerning bfbc2 it sometimes takes forever to catch them. Another cheap method of cheating AND I DONT CARE WHAT ANYONE ELSE SAYS IT'S CHEATING.. is when there buds leave their team and switch to yours. Then a spotter sits and calls out positions to the other team on the map via teamspeak. I had that happen last night. The only reason I caught it was because I noticed that one of our men was behind the RU line where the other team can't go. The player was also ducked and hidden behind a rock ledge and spotting was turned off. The opposite team lobbed a grenade right at the spot where he was hidden. (*this was the first thing that made my common sense tingle). Then I noticed the same guy take off in the helo, and nobody fro the opposing team even shot at it. Landed on the island and then the other team got it. Everyone that was on our team in the helo got killed EXCEPT the driver who of course miraculously made it back to our area to DO IT AGAIN. Of course the mod for the server, being the HACK B@#$@ that he was said "there's nothing weird going on here? I see no reason to kick anyone" .. hmmm... wonder why? POINT FARM! I dont even bother anymore. Just say NO to crap servers.
Best wishes, StevenX -
I'm not sure if this is technically off topic or not, but I have experienced a problem for the first time tonight with BC2 crashing. All of the sudden, this lound noise comes from my speakers and my M17X R2 reboots. Upon completion, it says it recovered from a blue screen error. I have had this thing for about 2 weeks without any problems. I have ATI 10.7 drivers installed. Checking my app profiles, it doesn't look like any are installed. Is there an BC2 profile for 10.7? I only saw the profile for 10.6 and I don't know if it can work with 10.7. Has anyone else experienced this? Will the app profile help?
The only other change to my system tonight was the installation and use of a Logitech G9X mouse. And unless my polling is too high (set at max 1000) I don't think this should be an issue.
Sorry if I hijacked the forum. If someone can give me some advise, I promise to get us back to complaining about hit detection and cheaters.....Both really suck in this game!
Thanks -
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
@Ghost you may want to completely remove the driver, use reg cleaner, then install the driver again from fresh download to see if the issue persists. On my old m17 I would have to do this from time to time with the hd3870s.
Also no reason to be sorry ... legit questions deserves responses.
BW, StevenX -
I will try that. I may go back to the AW drivers. I guess I'll try the 10.7 again after clearing it out and then play a few nights to test.
Is it possible that this issue is related to my Logitech G9X? Maybe a mouse polling issue? The problems first started after I installed the Logitech software and began playing. Event viewer is pretty useless and I get non descriptive BSODs (if I even get one). -
Well I just saw BC2 for $30 at a local store which came down from $60 so I'm really thinking of buying. Being that you guys are experienced players, should I get another army game?! I have all the CODs, play COD WaW the most and also ArmaII. Or will BC2 just be overkill? This hit detection thing sounds frustrating.
-
stevenxowens792 Notebook Virtuoso
@Dune - The other guys are better players than I am.. I dont want to tell anyone what to buy. I will just say that it's a very cool game. That's what makes it frustrating. It has so much potential and then just falls sometimes right on it's face. Other players will say there are absolutely no issues... There are legit places you can purchase 100 percent new and guarantee'd license keys for around 20 bones.
Good luck,
StevenX -
To be honest i have never faced the hit detection problem very much at all, although i should qualify that statement by saying i only play on servers where it says my ping is between 1-10, so maybe that's why I don't face those issues.
-
That could be part of it. My game browser ping is usually anywhere from 25-39 ping, and in-game ping 90-120. Do you live in NYC? I've heard lots of people in NYC have few issues, mainly because they all have low pings. This game definitely favors low pings (i.e. <50 in game) and very high pings (>200 in game). Anything in between seems to be out of luck.
-
Very close to NYC, and yea i agree with you that low ping is good and strangely high ping seems to have advantages, which really sucks.
-
10.7 drivers have seemed to make it nice and smooth now
10.6 weren't great
-
I agree 10.7 feels better, smoother gameplay; it is to be expected with each driver update.
-
Shadowfate Wala pa rin ako maisip e.
I also just noticed this now
from 10.4 to 10.7
There is a HUGE FPS boost(10+) in SP and also it completely erases FPS drops happening in older versions.
ALSO
I think the best settings for it is
ALL HIGH except for Shadows(LOW). Just found that out recently. With this settings I can crank up AA and AF (4x and 16x) and still get 50+ FPS with my sig -
Well I guess I should check for updates to my lowly nvidia drivers.
-
Anybody still play this game? I just reached max level
-
I still play quite a lot. Just got my Wheels of Hazzard pin finally: now THAT was rewarding!
-
Not really. Got tired and bored of the same crap all the time. Made level 33... maybe I'll come back some other time.
-
They seriously need some new maps...
I just bought it yesterday and am already pretty bored of it.
I did play till around lvl 30 on the Xbox version though.
