I have a hp 8510w and bad company seems to be running horrible on my system. It is averaging 20fps on low settings and on 1024x768. Is there any way to force it to run on directx 9?
My specs:
Vistax64
2.2 GHz
4GB ram
Quadro 570m GDDR3 (8600m GT) Overclocked 600 900 1200

the game is very demanding hardware-wise, you wont be able to run it smoothly on that laptop no matter what you do.
to make it run in dx9, you need to find game folder (it should be in my documents or documents and settings folder), open settings.ini file (make sure you back it up first) and change DxVersion from Auto to 9 so it looks like this DxVersion=9
changing bloom to false also helps. after you're done editing save file and run the game, if theres no fps increase open it up again and make sure it didnt revert back to auto/true settings -
Thanks I did that and I am still getting the same performance. I saw this guys video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UQ2_qPL2FMs which is why I think something is wrong with mine since I get no where near that good of performance.
-
It really matters ALOT if the server has 12,24,32 players in it. My performance with the laptop in my sig. (np8662), was 2x higher FPS with ~24 players. When the server would fill, to 32, my frames were cut in half.
On a empty server, like the one posted in this video, i could run the BETA maxed out and get a solid 60fps. -
what 2.2ghz do you have? It matters you know. 2.2 ghz celeron or i7? lol..
-
It's in a 8510w so it's a core2duo.
And I am only playing campaign. -
campaign? do you have the actual game?
in the beta, I struggled with performance on my machines as well. With some tweaks it began running ok on my G51, but was still a struggle on my m11x, which has a better GPU than you, but a slower CPU.
Hoping the retail version of game is a bit better optimized, but curious if you actually already have it and it's not. -
Played around in the single player mode before my copy gets released on steam and i can say my fps were lower than they were on the beta map
-
A friend of mine got his copy early because his brother works for gamestop and its horrible. On native res I have to run it low-med settings with no AA or AF. I preordered it for 360 and I'm going to the midnight release. My comp is in my sig and it was just dissapointing to not be able to hit high settings
-
wow, well that's disappointing.... retail is seeing worse performance than the beta? even in single player? that sucks, I was hoping for an improvement ha
-
You're surprised that your 260M (~9800 GT) couldn't run the game at 1980x1080p? That resolution is way too much for the GPU to handle.
Any realistic res will do just fine. -
The Geforce GTX 260M is not in the same range as the Geforce 9800M GT. The Geforce GTX 260M is basically an overclocked Geforce 9800M GTX , while the underclocked ASUS Geforce GTX 260M is clocked exactly the same as a stock Geforce 9800M GTX. I'm able to handle Battlefield Bad Company 2 at all high settings, with AA x1, AF x16, V-sync and HASO off at 1920x1080 resolution with avg 24-37 FPS. It's not great, but it's playable.
-
Just pick up my copy. I'm running it on high at 1600 x 900 with AA x1, AF x 4, DX9, and with average of 45-70 fps. The spec is in my sig.
-
And that's why im sometimes just happy that i have that crap 1280x800 resolution
Native without performance loss
-
Got my copy after my friend installed it, first mission im getting anywhere between 27-40 fps depending on activity, on average though it is around 30-32 ish fps.
Im running on a core 2 duo 2.0 ghz
Mobility HD 3650 catalyst 10.3
Graphics settings from the settings file:
Effects=low
Soldiers=medium
Vehicles=medium
Overgrowth=medium
Undergrowth=medium
StaticObjects=medium
Terrain=high
Shadows=low
Bloom=false
HSAO=false
MSAA=0
Water=low
MainQuality=custom
Texture=high
DxVersion=9
Aniso=0
Detail=medium
Its playable to say the least, don't know if this performance will do in multiplayer though, which is why im holding off buying it until i have played it enough. -
That's exactly why I went with the 1600x900, that res looks great but is still not too taxing for the ''high end'' mobile GPU. 1280x800 may well be slightly more CPU bound too.
-
Huh? It's like 10 to 15% faster than the 9800M GT.
-
Does anyone know if the unlock codes can only be used once per account? I want to get the game, but probably not till next week... but I would still like to have some nice weapons to start off with
-
A lot of people have been downloading leaked copies...
-
Just spent the last few hours playing through a bit of the campaign and multiplayer, this is really a fun game! I'm impressed so far.
Performance has been fine, been playing on my m11x, on mostly low @ 1280x720, high textures, still looks good and plays ok.
Framerates are averaging upper 20's, but range anywhere from about 18-50+
Definitely playable. And loving the destructable environments. Really cool to have your cover blown away or blowing somebody elses away for the clean shot. -
I ran the beta at 1600x900 with high settings, hardware 2x aa, af, and vsync and get 45-60 fps. The game plays very smooth and my 260 is stock clocks.
-
Only on one account and once entered the effects are permanent. Same sorta deal as with 2142 if you had the weapons or instant upgrade code and applied it to your game account. Any new user name you create under that account will be equipped with the upgrades.
-
be77 you've patched it with day1 patch right? Sounds more in-line to what I expected on M11x
-
Good question, I'm using the Steam version... was it included? If not then no, I haven't... I downloaded it yesterday about mid afternoon, never saw any updates come through afterwards...

Anyone having trouble hearing the dialog in the SP campaign? They are barely whispers for me, I've already checked the settings.
-
Really? No problem here, even using just the integrated laptop speakers... in fact, my GF was working out across the room last night and even commented, "they sure cuss a lot in that game" lol. So, no problems with dialog at all.
-

Never mind, a cable was unplugged.
So I see they still haven't fixed the laggy mouse issue.... -
EDIT: Problem fixed, I dunno what happened, but I went back to give it another go and it was running fine.

Hey Johnny, Im the guy(raazmatazz94) who posted that vid.
The game is really memory and cpu heavy, so your cpu is a little slower than mine(mine is 2.5 ghz).
The video at first, the server is empty, then it started to fill up. Near the last 2 min, the server had around 25 people in it.
I dont have the game yet b/c i preordered on amazon, but all of my friends who got it told me it was a huge performance boost from the beta(15-20 fps higher).
There could be something wrong with the drivers. Try rolling back and see.
Im gonna put some more vids when i get the chance in my channel. Hopefully, ill have the game to do some benchmarking for y'all. -
Anyone having problems connecting to servers? I understand this game is still pretty brand new so there should be issues like this. I tried clicking connect on open servers and nothing seems to happen. Ah well I can at least enjoy the single player and/or play some BF2 for the time being.
-
I have the same problem. Every time i try to connect to a game there is no server available and if they are available I can't connect to it? Anyone know how to fix this?
-
running maxed settings 1440x900 with my desktop in sig
played 32 players servers only so far
-
That's cool that you found this topic somehow. I'm on forceware 195.62. Thanks I would love to check it out.
-
ahh no wonder. Roll back to 185.62(August 09). The new one 195.62 takes out performance tweaking from the older drivers, so no matter what game you play, vista or 7 doesnt adjust memory specs to play it.
-
and BTW, it gave me a 5-10 fps increase.
-
I'm very impressed with how this game ran on my M11x. OC'd to 1.6Ghz, stock GPU clocks with DOX 195.62 and in 32man server I got ranging from 15-25FPS. I know those don't sound great, but seriously I didn't notice frame skippage at all. I was playing on a very good, low ping server @93ms but overall very surprised. I had medium graphics, high textures, medium effects, low shadows, 1xAA, HBAO off, 1280x720. It played extremely smooth, a lot better than I expected. If I turn down some settings I assume it'll play even better.
-
Damn....so it started to happen'.....260m's are becoming slowly "not enough"....lol.
-
Game is awesome... run sweet on a quad core with 4 gis of ram. 40 frames solid

on my M11x - info in description of vid -
Last night I had some time to spend with the single player campaign. I know these results won't translate over into the multiplayer online play which most are interested in, but it will serve as a reference.
On a stock Asus G73 with the Beta 10.3 drivers, I was able to absolutely max every setting and enable all the candy and get 35 avg frames, never really dropping below 30, even for higher action scenes and explosions. Disabling HBAO jumped up my FPS by a constant 10, and lowering AA and AF to 4 added another 5 frames keeping it at around 50. Again, frames stayed pretty constant even through action scenes and explosions. Running at 1920x1080 resolution I am fine with the AA being lower, and I'm not interested enough in HBAO to give up 10 frames.
I found it difficult to find good brightness and contrast settings as you have to constantly open and close the options window to see the effects or your changes. -

Only 32-players, well considering that's the max....
-
well yea.. i meant that i didn't play 16/24player servers yet
-
anyone comment on how a 4670 would run the game?
just ordered an xps 1645 i7-720 and res is 1600x900 -
Ultimate BFBC2 GPU Performance Comparison
Here is a very in depth review of the performance of BFBC2 at several different resolutions and game settings with many different GPU's - All desktop though, but still useful -
I wish they did a CPU compariion :\
-
will I be able to play this game with
GTX 260m and a 3ghz core2duo? or does it need a quad? -
you will definitely be able to play it at least on med settings
-
There was some talk about CPU constraints in there, and there are links to comparisons made on a quadcore with 2 cores disabled to compare with dual core operation. Essentially, this game like almost every other FPS, is a much bigger strain on the GPU.
-
Ahh, I'm looking for a nice, powerful laptop for roughly £1000 probably more before September as a potential desktop replacement and I need to find one that runs BC2 nicely at high-ish settings at native res. Not only will that mean I can continue to enjoy a brilliant game for months ahead, it will give me confidence in how it will perform with future games.
-
I guarantee great performance on high settings.
