This game got a crazy review from some UK magazine. It was like a 96 out of 100. It was really a shocker.
-
Awesome, downloading now

Update: It looks gorgeous! Not running it on a lappy right now but on my desktop 8800gtx it is very very smooth. Just a FYI.
-
Yep great demo
. Played it on my PC then my 360 just for comparison .
Hard to believe its the Unreal Engine . -
Rocksteady sure made some improvements to the engine. It still looks fantastic for its age.

the Unreal Engine has always been one of the best, looks good and performs good and offers good scaling down for systems that are older.
I bet you could make a really convincing Crysis game with the UT3 engine that would run 2x faster on the same hardware. -
Thanks for sharing!
Just played it on my notebook and it runs and looks great. Can't wait!
Althoguh I just read that the PC version was pushed back to 15th of September because they wanted to put some PhysX in it!
Edit: by the way if you wanna play the demo without the unskippable starting splash screens and the unskippable ending trailer,
move the following files out of C:\Games\Batman Arkham Asylum Demo\BmGame\Movies:
All versions of the attract.bik file
baa_logo_run_v5_h264.bik

I will definitely be trying this game Demo out on my laptop, will be interesting to see if it runs well on Windows 7 and the Q9000 as well as what sort of frame rates I will see in the Rivatuner OSD.
On another note, I see there are so many other worthwhile Demo downloads in that link. -
With everything turned on, including physx @ high @ 1680*1050, the game seems playable, averaging 30 FPS. However, Physx objects has prominent impact on the game's performance, especially the breakable tiles, frame rate practically dropped to low 10s.
This is with a single GTX 280m and a p8400. -
I agree 100%. It just seems like some gaming companies are more interested in introducing the newest gaming engine without fine tuning (yes I am looking at you Crytek). The only exceptions, of course, being Epic with the unreal engine, and Valve with Source. They are showing their age though.
Thanks for this. I do not want to watch the beginning movie or anything else for that matter for spoilers...hehe.
Thats a shame, because with Phys X, there are alot of special touch effects that look awesome! I am surprised about the frame rate with a GTX 280. I wonder if someone with SLI can chime in? -

Wow!!!
I was really waiting for this from a long time.
Damn, the demo is 2.3 gb. I wonder how big is the real game! -
Well, it is essentially a verily downclocked GTS 250, the GTX 280m, I mean. I guess SLI users would have much better frame rate, with one card heavily utilized for the physx process and all.
Maybe a driver optimized for this game would help, everything from start to end was quite smooth, with the exception being those breakable tiles during the hostage scene, it cripples the card.
Square-enix managed to screw that up with the Last Remnant. -
That is true. I almost forgot how Silicon Knights could not use the unreal engine properly in Too Human either. Hence the infamous lawsuit against Epic.
-
awww, another game with the movement buttons upside down, what's wrong with Unreal engine and Logitech controllers
Gears of War, Brother in Arms, X-men Wolverine, and now this.
-
I finished downloading this yesterday. I can't wait to get off work today and try it!

I am all over this demo.
Thanks for the update. -
To you Mak or anyone else running it on NP5793-ish laptop. Can you enable physX and still get decent performance on the 8800M GTX? Thanks!
-
Wow! Gonna Download this Right Now! xD

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
im downloading now and just a heads up, the demo is now on STEAM
-
Chatted to you on xfire already but will post my results here as well.
All settings maxed but with no AA & no v-sync on 1680x1050:
With PhysX ON I get 26-30 fps average. It's capped at 30fps I think but still runs pretty smooth.
With PhysX OFF I get 43-55 fps average. No smoke in-game though. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Very interesting thing happened finished downloading on STEAM.
Then got message
"Failed to initialize NVIDIA PhysX. Please install the lastest NVIDIA Physx system software."
I can figure this out its should be simple
Did anyone else run into this though?
-
I just tested this demo out on my NP8662 Q9000 laptop.
I have settings at very high detail level, resolution at 1680 X 1050, AA disabled, everything else on and Physx set to high. I get from 35-40 fps, sometimes 50-60 fps.
With Physx disabled I get a constant 45 fps and a lot of the time 59 fps. I guess this is where SLI would come into play in terms of being able to use Physx without frame rate drops.
Either way, this game is perfectly playable and I love the combat. It does look much better with Physx enabled though.
EDIT: Forgot to mention that this game works perfectly with my Wireless Xbox 360 PC Controller. I am assuming it was designed with this in mind since everything is mapped out accordingly. -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
i played it at 1920 x 1080 Very High 4x AA
It was only a little laggy other then that it was pretty flawless. -

Downloading now! Gonna test this on my Q6600 + HD4870 machine in a couple hours.
-
Just played the demo and it is not bad. Im glad to here kevin conroy and mark hamill voice again. Now I have to wait a whole month for this game. Also, the game looks nice and to me all unreal 3 engine games look alike, but it did chug in a few places. It is still well optimized for a demo.
A couple of shots:
-
2.8 Ghz and 8800m GTX in SLI played @ 1920x1200, no vsync, no AA. Physx on Normal, and other settings turn on or on high.
Averaged 35fps, never dipped below 30. Usually when there are three or more enemies onscreen. (no lag in gameplay, smooth even at 30-40fps)
Over 60fps when its just batman walking and no enemies.
Overall great gameplay... will buy when it gets below $20! -
Wow. So none of you( those with a single card) experienced extreme lag when it comes to the hostage scene with Physx set to high?

Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Well i played it twice, and YES it is mapped correctly to the Xbox 360 controller(And they are EXTREMELEY good)
Graphics : A
This game has probably the BEST graphics for any super Hero game. Most of them are usually just ok. This on the other hand is spectacular. Alot of gears feel in the ambience. Also the Batman model here is phenomenal
Sound: A+
Great, man i can only imagine what this thing sounds like on Surround sound. Simply amazing. The voice acting here is also the real deal as there are some original voices throughout the game. Harley Quinn's voice, Joker's voice, and Batman's voice is so well done.
Gameplay: A-
Great, it is fun engaging. The swinging mechanic and baterang are great additions. Also the fighting and counter moves are excellent as well. The only thing i would like improves is a couple more combos and the ability to be be able to swing anywhere.
Controls: A+
GREAT, i adpated so fast i picked it up and felt like i knew how to play. That rarely happens to me in any other games. After playing through full 1 time i already knew all the controls for an easy second play through. Touche And YES I USE XBOX CONTROLLER! Not sure about the keybaord but dont really care either.
Overall(For Demo): 9/10
Great i am so happy.
Batman games ALWAYS suck. Thats been the rule since gaming began, i mean it, they were all bad. Batman always has, and always will be my favorite super hero no matter what. Props to the guys at Eidos i hope with this Square Enix takeover they will still be able to put out quality and class games like this, TOUCHE!! -
Wow, what a good demo. I really want this game now! I played it on all high settings and 2xAA at 1680x1050 on my desktop (specs in sig) with no lag whatsoever. The graphics, gameplay, sound, and controls were all great. I have only used my keyboard so far and it was pretty intuitive, but I'll try out my Xbox360 controller later.
-
Looks like this is on my Top List!
-
spradhan01 Notebook Virtuoso
I just played the demo!
It rocks!
I just wonder that almost 10min gameplay file size was 2.x gb, what will be the size of the real game? -
Red_Dragon Notebook Nobel Laureate
Lol these demos are not compressed. Thats why the sizer is always so insane.
It will probably only be about 5GB. Man these games use up alot of space though.
I have 80GB total on my gaming drive i have 7 full games and 3 demo's and that used up 60gb!! Cheap big SSD's when are you going to be coming :?
-
wow, this game looks promising.
-
This is exactly why I make use of the built in NTFS file system compression. Some think that it decreases performance but all of my games perform just as well with this enabled and I save a lot of space.
-
Looks really good
-
Umm no it hasn't.... If you played the batman game in NES days if was no bad and the batman animated series for the SNES was fun! The only batman game that came to mind that suck really really bad was the movie game batman and robin and the movie sucked too! Also, batman begins the game wasn't all that bad, it could have been better but it was enjoyable. I believe you meant to say Superman games sucks, with the only good one being The Death of Superman on the SNES.
-
Actually, I'm surprised more people don't use drive compression. The issue comes down to accessing your data if there's a failure. But for game files, you can easily restore those by a game reinstall.
I have always been chicken to try it out. Drive compression received such a bad rap years ago, but it seems to have improved. With CPU's as fast as they are, it shouldn't matter. File sizes are smaller on the drive, so faster read times and the CPU has to decompress it.
Now that you mention it, I may give it try.
Now back On Topic! Once my Win7 install finishes, and I get it configured and backed up, this will be the first game on my new Win 7 setup! -
Did you install Win7 on your gaming desktop?
-

I played both those games and i thought they were both garbage. Also yes, i am old enough to have remembered them both. -
I am happy you all are enjoying the demo as much as I am. I have been so hyped about this game ever since I found out WB was getting personally involved and got Rocksteady to do the game. The game is alot better than I hoped. I may get this for both PS3 and my M17x (for on the go gaming)..hehe.
Edit: Thanks for the rep Light
-
no prob Bub u deserve it man...loved the demo the Graphix look amazing so u caved and ordered the M17x just for this game huh..lol gonna send it back right after ur done playing Batman....hmmm

Pretty odd, im thinking of doing the same thing. Getting one for PC and one for 360.
Great minds think alike.
I have only done that with a few games as well. One has been Zelda Twighlight Princes(Gamecube and Wii) and Resident Evil 4(Wii, gamecube) There are some other but these are from the top of my head. I LOVE the way this UK Review summed up the game:
Games Master UK
"Arkham Asylum is a game with the power to utterly captivate you and can stand proudly alongside modern classics such as "Resident Evil 4", "Gears of War," and "BioShock"...Simply put, Batman: Arkham Asylum is a masterpiece. [Sept 2009, p.66]"
Are they right or what?
-
Man, the graphics on this game is awesome. I'll def' be picking this one up
Batman Arkham Asylum PC demo out.
