Just tried BF2 on my notebook. 256MB Mobility Radeon X700.
Running at 1400x1050 with all options set to "Maximum" - quite smooth and looks spectacular. -

and if so, where do i get an upgrade for my video card? also where do i get a software upgrade for ATI RADEON 9000 IGP? -
Hi I have Compaq Presario V2402AU and Battlefield 2 works so good and fast and I have it up to medium settings at 1024x 768 res, was shocked on how smooth it was.
My laptop spec
- AMD Turion 64 (1.8ghz) 1mb cache, 800mhz FSB CPU
- 2gb DDR RAM
- 60 gb Hard drive
- ATI Radeon Xpress 200M PCI Express 128mb Video card
- Dual Layer DVD burner
- 14" WXGA LCD screen
- 54g Wireless Network
- 3 USB 2.0 ports
- VGA port and Svideo port
- 6 in 1 card reader
- Firewire
and Runing Windows XP Pro x64 Edition. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
That is impressive.
Your notebook has the best Integrated graphics solution out there, the Radeon Xpress 200M.2GB of RAM (very nice) also helps.
-
can i do hypermemory on my ATI M9700 as It only has 64 mb
But I have no ideal how to T___T -
That's the exact same setup I have, and yes, BF2 will run fine; although, you may find a little lag with everything turned up, on the Dam map (but, everyone does, so don't feel bad). I'm sorry, I want to clarify, if you turn everything up, most maps will run slightly choppy (not that noticeable, if you play it like that often enough). -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Download + Install the latest Catalyst Mobility 5.13 drivers, those will help your notebook perform better.\
I've run BF2 on a 64MB card before - just keep the resolution and textures down, no AA/AF, and you should be OK. -
I have fully tested many HP notebooks at work as a system tester its my job to.
so with BF2 as long as you have a video card in your laptop that is either a Radeon or Geforce chipset and it supports Direct X 9c and has a 64mb or ram or more it will run BF2 no matter what your specs, but the more ram the better with BF2.
AMD Turion64 1.8ghz, 1mb cache, 800mhz FSB
2gb DDR ram
60gb hard drive
ATI Radeon Xpress 200M PCI express 128mb video card
14" WXGA brightview LCD
Dual layer DVD burner -
It it DOESN'T work, the most likely problem for BF2 is your video card, as the game only supports certain video cards.
-
I have a question about this game because I think I want to buy it.
The demo plays great. I have it on high settings with no aa and it usually runs in the high 30/low 40 fps range. Sometimes dips into the mid-high 20's momentarily when lots of effects are on the screen (smoke, explosions, dust, etc.).
However, this is only during the 16 player single player level. Should I be expecting a lot more graphics lag online? And does my performance sound about right for a 128 mb x700? I have a gig of ram and a 750 pentium M.
Thanks -
you might want to spring for another gig. (if your lappy supports it)
64 player games can eat up memory. -
Thanks. I can probably live without the upgrade for now, as I just bought my computer. But does my performance sound about right for my computer?
-
All I can say is to try 64 player games if possible, because if the you play the online for a while you'll quickly realize how much fun 40 and 64-play games are.
I'm running a 2.0 GHz Turion lappy. I had BF2 installed and it ran really well on medium settings. I didn't get a chance to turn it up to high because it wasn't my copy, I don't actually own BF2 at the moment.
When I played online though, I found that the firewall and active antivirus really slowed the connection, so I had to disable those while playing BF2, then it ran really smoothly.
PS. You probably don't need to go to 2GB RAM anytime soon. -
no. But what do you expect for an old pentium 3 with a 8mb S3 savage video card. (I accept all donations towards the purchase a real laptop, PM me if interested
)

Hello,
I need to get a laptop for school but I also want to play BF2 on it. I was thinking of getting the HP DV4000 or the Compaq Presario V4000T. Do any of you have these laptops? How good does it play BF2? How many hours does the batteries last?
If you have other sugestions that is cool too. I need to keep the price right around $1,000. -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
You already have a thread in Hardware asking this question.
EDIT: Well, I have nothing better to do, so . .
Both of those notebooks with the X700 and a gig of memory would be perfectly fine for BF2. At least 1GB of memory is important for BF2.
For gaming - I wouldn't expect great battery life, perhaps an hour, maybe a bit more. At idle/basic tasks (6-cell), about 2.5-3 hrs, (12-cell) 5+ hours. -
Thanks again ChazMan.

Hi, my stepdad bought me an Acer Aspire 3627WXMi and thinking that i finaly had a decent computer after using a 5 year old hunkajunk for the past 3 years I went out abd bought muself a copy of battlefield 2 only to discover that it wont work on it
After discovering the reason i went on a laptop researching spree and discovered the only way to fix the problem s to buy a new one
With only about $1700AU to spend (with the help of a deal with my dear old grandma who is also looking for a laptop and will be getting my current one) I have come across this:
Samsung R50
Intel Pentium M 740 Processor (533MHz) 1.73GHz
Memory: 512MB (2GB max) which I will probably be increasing to 768MB
Hard drive - 60GB (5400RPM)
Graphics Card ATI Mobility Radeon X300 (doesnt say the card memory)
O/S: XP home (although I have a copy of Pro I can use)
I wanna know if it will be able to play Battlefield 2 (and hopefully Medal of Honour Allied Assault which came with it free!!!) on at least minimum settings...I don't wanna screw up cos I wont be able to take this one back -
I think that laptop would struggle to play BF2. Are you from the USA? If so I would recomend the MSI-1029. It has a really nice card and should be able to play BF2 on medium settings.
Tim -
I'm from australia (thats why I put AU cos i wasnt sure where everyone on here was from) I had a couple of other laptops lined up but the payment options for them werent very convenient...I found out with this laptop that in one store there are 2 left and one id the display model so if I get in at the right time I could get that one and save a bit o money...
I have to find one with at least 12 months interest free and as cheap as possible...cos my grandma will be paying about $1400 (the price of my current laptop when it was purchased (about a month ago)) and I will be paying the rest plus a bit more so she doesnt have to pay as much...that is why she is getting my laptop...if she wasnt looking for one i woulnt even be able to do this!
Would more ram and a bit of overclocking help it out with Battlefield 2? -
no the x300 is a weak card, and BF2 would not be a great idea for that card. look for something with at least an ATI x700, or Nvidia 6600, as those ar able to play on medium/high settings at 30+fps.
also, ram is a huge help, and 2gb is ideal for BF2.
pb,out. -
aww...y do EA have to be so mean with their compatibility
...any idea how well it will run on total minimum settings, all background processes turned off in windows (well ones that can bu turned off) and overclocked?
Also is it possible to take out the card from the laptop and stick in a better one?...if it is I can handle it until i can afford a newer card -
Unfortionately it is not possible to switch out a graphics card like a desktop. One of the main reasons is the bios can't handle another card and sometimes the cards are fisically attached to the motherboard.
I really wouldn't recomend the x300. In fact I don't think it is even supported by ea like pb said.
I would also see what Asus selections you have in the Oz. They are coming out with some really nice laptops.
Tim -
Thanks for the help. Ive seen it mentioned around the place on other forums that it will but they usualy had a better CPU and more RAM...also on the EA site (the link is too long to stick in here but if you go to their help things and put 6200 into the search it comes up with a list of compatible cards) it has the card mentioned but i dunno if that is for all their games or if it includes the mobile counterparts.
I dont wanna have to go back to a desktop as I need the laptop for tafe (college or whatever it is in the US) and i cant easily cary a desktop around to my friends place! but it looks like it might have to come to that! -
I found EA's supported list in its online help!...took me a bit...
ATI Radeon
X700 (PCIe), X600 (PCIe), X800 XT Platinum Edition, X800 PRO, X300 series.
9800 series, 9700 series, 9600 series, 9559 (RV350LX), 9500 series, 8500 series.
NVIDIA GeForce
6600 (PCIe), PCX 5900 (PCIe).
5800 series (AGP).
6800 Ultra, 6800 GT, 6800.
FX 5950 series, FX 5900 series, FX 5700 series.
Note that if you have a ATI Radeon 9200 PCI card (this does not apply to AGP or PCI Express cards), you may experience this issue even after updating your drivers. Although this card meets the memory requirements for running the game, when tested it was not able to run the game with a stability adequate enough to make the official supported video card list in the Readme for the game. Updating your video card drivers as well as your motherboard firmware may help to resolve this issue. Please refer to your video card manufacturer for further instruction.
its in there but doesnt say anything about mobility version -
Do you guys think my laptop would run BF2 1024X764(or w/e) on medium settings?
spec:
pentium m 740(1.7ghz)
ati m 9700 64mb
512 mb ram
also should i get more rams?
how much would it cost me in usd
http://www.asus.com/products.aspx?l1=5&l2=24&l3=131&model=348&modelmenu=1 -
I have an E1705, 1.83 Core Duo, 2gig 533 DDR2, 256mb Go 7800 (OC'd).....I play with ALL settings on high, 4xAA....I'm getting FPS in the 55-70 range. With AA set to 2x or turned off completely, I get over 100 FPS...absolutely NO lag dueing gameplay. I do see some pretty long load times, but a 7200rpm I assume would help fix this a little
-
Buying system ram will cost you around $70. I would get it off of new egg. You would need at least 1GB. But I am still not sure about that 9700 card.
Tim -
i can run hl2 and CS:S on 1024X764 with medium/high settings really smoothly
without lags..
Would it help if i upgrade my rams to 1gb? -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Let's try to keep this on topic, thanks.
Chaz -
but i wanna know if my laptop can run it -
yes it does! (thankfully)
Acer Aspire 5670 ($1044 on 5/1/06)
Intel Duo Core T2300 (1.666Ghz FSB 666Mhz)
1 Gb So-dimm2 (2x512Mb @ 533Mhz)
100Gb 5400rpm SATA drive
ATI x1400 128Mb
15.4" screen
wi-fi 802.11b
I can run Medium settings with no noticable lag... but it looked even better when I tweaked the BF2 settings a bit. Sorry, did not even bother to try the "high" default settings.
I read a lot of flack about the x1400, but my research showed it to be a step above ATI 200M 128Mb and it blows the doors off my desktop system (which I'd been playing BF2 on for a LONG time). -
my dad can run BF2 on LOW settings with 1024x786 resolution with about 35FPS. his specs are:
AMD Turion ML 34 1.8
1.5GB RAM
100GB HD
ATI Mobility Radeon Xpress 200m 128dedicated+128shared
i hope BF2 runs well on my future lappie!! (look at my siggie) -
1280x780 60Hz resolution (i am not sure about the second number lolz), highest settings (dynamic lightning set to medium), AA x2 and it is always above 25fps with latest Omega drivers. I do NOT TURN THE TRAY TOOLS ON. The picture is stretched full screen with absolutely no distortion.
My desktop (Pentium 4 Northwood 2.4Ghz no HT, GeForce 6600GT Overclocked, 512mb DDR333 RAM, Seagate Barracude 7200rpm 120Gb) used to run everything on Medium - 1024x780 or whatever. Excellent performance at that level. (i fried the GPU so...) -
I run it at 800x600 with most settings on low and some on medium and i get between 50-70 FPS with my X600 overclocked.
-
ignore my questions
i bought the game and ran it at 1024x 768 with all settings med and some high..
with a lil lag..but it lags a lot when im flying planes and helis .
radeon m 9700 64mb
512 rams
1.7 ghz -

I installed BF2 on my laptop (haven't done so since I recieved my new drive), and tested the settings.
1280x1024
All options set to Maximum
8X AF, 2X AA
37 FPS
Runs quite well, only time I saw it dip below 32 was when an airplane crashed in front of me. That was with a 400:392 OC.
Chaz -
I play at 1280 x 800 (by modifying the shortcut to launch the game) all settings on medium, no AA. It usually stays around 40-55 fps. No hitches or stuttering. Smoke and explosions make it slow down though. Artillery strikes will sometimes momentarily drive fps down to around 10-20fps. Doesn't really matter though since i'm already dead anyways.
I tried playing it on high and it was still above 30fps visual quality wasn't that much better and i'd rather have the better framerate. -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Do you guys also lag a lot when playing the game the first 5 minutes. I truelly get 10-15 fps... sometimes even worse.
Why is that?
Thanks,
Charlie-Peru -
another gig of ram should help. Battlefield plays well with 2 gigs. I have 2 gigs and only lag the first 10 seconds or so. I have the i9300 with the 6800go, 1.86ghz, 2 gb ram, and 80gb 7200 HDD.
-
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
Yeah, bumping the memory to 2GB would help. I originally had 1GB installed in my notebook, and BF2 was laggy. Once I upgraded to 2GB in both my laptop and desktop, it is lag-free and much faster.
-
bf2 works excellent with my lappie!
i run it at the highest settings and get about 60+ fps (constant)! only in the first 10~15 seconds dose it kind of freeze for a second. then after that it runs like a dream! -
Charles P. Jefferies Lead Moderator Super Moderator
The system is probably still caching textures in the first few seconds for the video card, so that is why it might be a bit choppy initially.
-
works great from start up to shut down. I run 1024x768 with some medium and most low. But I find that 800x600 with the same settings and the effects turned to high seems to look alot better. Playability didnt change but the look seems better.
-
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
If I read the post of liquid I think that 'chopping' at the beginning is only caused by the RAM. You must have 2 GB of RAM, to play the game smooth from begin to end.
For better looks the Videocard is important, bur for the lag at the beginning the RAM.
Charlie-Peru -
Yeah I have 2gb of ram and a decent 5400rpm hdd, so loading isnt the issue. I garauntee that most of your guy's bf2 experiences look better then mine, but then again its not bad at all. Plus the 12in screen works better with less eye strain on 800x600 vs. 1024x768. At this point Im not dissapointed in the lappy, just dissapointed in my job not affording me a lappy with dedicated grfx. -
Notebook Solutions Company Representative NBR Reviewer
Great to hear that you play fine on your 12". Hehe just imagine, BF2 on such a small laptop in the train

e1705:
T2500 (2.0 GHz DuoCore)
512 mb Ram
Nvidia 7800 Go
100GB HD 5400 (No CD Crack. My DVD Rom is noisy)
Running at 1600 x 1200 on Custom High settings
Terrain: High
Effects: High
Geometry: High
Texture: High
Lighting: Medium
Dynamic Shadows: Medium
Dynamic Light: Medium
AA: 2x
Texture Filtering: High
100%
Runs nicely. A little lag, but once I upgrade to 2gb of ram, i think It'll be ridiculous.
