So they were played on a *single* GTX 580? That's impressive!
-
-
Yep, it was played FLAWLESSLY on a super-high resolution on a singlr GTX580
My laptop still has a chance of playing at 1080p with maxed textures and details and medium shaders -
I'm hoping to run it on lower settings... I fear for my i5 though...

I'll probably upgrade my 5870 prior to BF3's release. I love having a 750w PSU and not having to worry about lack of power for GPU upgrades.
-
Do you guys think this will be a more processor intensive game due to Frostbite 2(environmental destruction etc). Also will PhysX benefit this in any way??
-
Nope, thank God PhysX isn't used. They are using Havok
And yes, I think it will be like BC2 : a pretty CPU-hubgry game due to destruction -
usapatriot Notebook Nobel Laureate
BC2 really needs a Quad to run well on higher settings and resolutions so there is no doubt BF3 will be the same.
As far as desktops go, I think i7 920's with decent overclocks will be able to run BF3 maxed. -
Just pre-ordered it through Amazon! (for the 360 though)
Super pumped for the game, I used to be a call of duty freak, but bad company 2 got me hooked on battlefield games. The environment and gameplay is just so much better. -
-
.
-
It's all speculation because there have been no system requirements released and nobody has the game yet. Educated guesses are still guesses.
-
Every time I watch a video and that bit about the footage being from alpha testing just makes me feel like I'm being trolled...it's too pretty for alpha lol
-
That is until you watch the developer commentary where DICE/EA proudly states how they feel this may be the most "balanced" Battlefield they have ever created. Of course that can be a good thing, but judging from past experience with DICE and their lazy approach, it's probably a terrible thing. I'm going to assume they pulled the same scheme as they did with Battlefield Bad Company/Vietnam expansion pack by making both sides exactly the same in terms access to weapons with the only main difference between them being the character skins. Luckily there wont be a lack of weapons and un-lockables to choose from, specially with the amount of resources they have from previous games (recycle), but most defiantly both sides of the fight will have access to same exact layout to make things "balanced".
I remember the good old days with Battlefield 1942 where each side was unique and you had an opportunity to experience each separately. I only hope DICE has spent as much time on gameplay dynamics as they have on making the game look "pretty". -
While I'm inclined to agree that the Battlefield games have never been the most balanced shooters. They were still my favorites to play simply because it doesn't force you into the "sprint everywhere and twitch shoot at everything and reload after you take 2 shots at an enemy in a 4 block radius" approach to shooters. If you want, you can actually pick up a sniper kit, set yourself up in a nice spot, and STAY there for multiple minutes, just taking pot shots over 600 meters long. No bunny hopping around corners with an AK74u while mashing the prone button to make your character drop shot *cough CoD cough cough*.
-
I worry that the game needs like bfbc2 a high end system to run fluent and create the right gaming experience. But the videos look good.
Hope it will be a nice game. -
Well I will confirm your worries that this game will definitely need a highend system to run, and a better system than BFBC2 needed.

New exclusive pre-order DLC announced : Battlefield 3 Limited Edition: Physical Warfare Pack Available Exclusively For Pre-Order
-
Since when is the SKS a sniper rifle? By-the-way that looks like an AR type flash suppressor...
-
-
"Flechette Ammo: Penetrates wood, metal, enemy soldiers"
My kind of ammo. -
Although I will only pre-order after the BETA to see how my lappy holds up...
I will still buy it for PC for the awesome 64 players -
I'm going to pre-order as soon as it's available on Steam.
-
-
What's a COD?
Man can't wait for BF3. Simply put. It's going to be awesome. -
( ya ya, I know it's OCD and not COD
)
A couple of confirmed things through Demize99 from Twitter :

hahahahaha awesomness
Spot on -

My girlfriend and I are also preordering on steam asap.
p.s. she's a pretty good chopper pilot -
I'll be also pre-ordering BF3 too, I guess from EA though...
I hope she lets me pilot too, because I love to be a stupid butt and crash the heli full of people into the water... Makes them QQ and rage SO HARD that it is SO FUNNY!
I'm also a pretty good plane/heli ( when I'm playing serious ) pilot ( I'm pretty good at FSX), but I'm better with airplanes

Oh, and landing the transport on-top of a windmill -

Looks like BF3 has nothing to worry about when it comes to competing with MW3 since MW3 looks like, you guessed it, the two previous Modern Warfare games. The trailer, was, utter fail.

haha. i still can't fly the dang helicopter... (don't laugh at me)
-
More remarkable tweets, the game is shaping to be a super balanced game!
-
<----- this guy used to be in the top 1,000 for best pilot in bf2 and might i add a kill ratio of 14.6
...ahh those were the good times... "back in the day"
anyways im stoked about this game. i just hope its still like bf2 in the sense of huuge maps and such. to be honest, i seriously wouldnt mind if all they did was update the graphics on Bf2.
See all of you out on the field. My probable game name will be 40pilots as it always has been -

Awesome! So you were one of those annoying helicopter pilots that kept raping assault teams? LOL. How much anguish you have caused me!
I remember the good old days of Blackhawk horing in BF2, load up a chopper full of medics, engineers, and support and capture flags by hovering over them while the engineers kept the helicopter in the sky and the medics healed any damage.
Or defending the left-most flag on Gulf of Oman near the mouth of the river while MEC planes and tanks converged on the flag!
So many memories! -
Apparently there will be unique pre-order items per country: Twitter

I already preordered from Best Buy, I hope I get something.
-
.
blackhawks FTW!!! LOL! i remember when we got a blackhawk SUPER high, and then everyone spawned in it and just halo droped into the flag zone, once while we did that one guy had "its raining men" playing through his mic, hahahahah... good times. -

Hopefully the heli won't be like BFBC 2 , just fly in circles and evade being shot down, so over powered, I like that there are vehicles in the game, but sometimes I like to shoot my rifle too...
-
-
-
The helis are not over powered in BC2. I shoot them down all day with my AT4.
-
I'm a pretty solid pilot as well; I was always much better with choppers than jets though.
For starters, EVERYONE can use the magic tracer dart gun that automatically turns every RPG and CG into a 100% accurate guided missile that absolutely cannot be dodged under any circumstances. If the pilot doesn't have flares, then getting traced is literally a death sentence; no amount of skilled piloting will ever dodge a traced rocket.
And if a pilot equips flares, then it's still hardly any easier. Flares take 15 seconds to reload; tracers take 3.5 seconds. That means just one person on the ground can stick another tracer on a helicopter with decent aim and shoot a rocket well before the pilot will be able to use flares again. And if there are even two people paying attention to a helicopter, it's pretty much automatically game over for the chopper.
And just in case all this tracer-guided magic isn't enough, there's the AT-4, a manually-guided missile that a pilot literally has no counter to; flares will not affect the AT-4, and dodging in a helicopter is generally fruitless, as it takes several seconds to slow down, let alone change direction.
And did I mention that all of these are one-hit kills on a chopper?
As if all that infantry-based anti-air wasn't enough, every map is just littered with dedicated anti-air turrets that not only shred helicopters up, they cause pilots to completely lose control so they can't escape. And in addition to these, there are countless smaller heavy machine gun emplacements that still make short work of a helicopter's armor.
And just in case there were still any chance of helicopter survival, most of the vehicles in the game are effective flyswatters. Hell, some tanks even have dedicated anti-aircraft turrets on top. Heavy tanks can destroy any chopper with one hit, APC's can shred up a helicopter with one cannon burst, jeeps and humvees have machine guns.
tl;dr - helicopters are an absolute joke in BFBC2. If there are even two competent Engineers on the ground, a helicopter has virtually no chance of surviving a minute past takeoff. If a chopper manages to seriously damage the other team, then frankly, that team is terrible. -
When I see people playing seriously, I don't do it. But when I see my team is 99% camping snipers, then the snipers that get in know their fate
Well, I sometimes do lots of damage against skilled level-50 engi's...
Also, I just noticed that you are from Cleveland! I think I'm going there in 2012 -
Wow I guess im the only one that hates the helis..... In my experience if they get a good air circle going its impossible to land a damn tracer dart on them, even trying to predict their next move. I guess not everyone has the same online experience as the other..... kinda like it states.
-
-
The dart is better for armor in my opinion. If you can hit the heli with the dart you could probably just hit it with the CG. Learn to use the AT4 and you will take them down much quicker.
