That's just what the magazine is saying, meaning their opinion. To me it's saying that EA/DICE is aiming for BF3 to be bigger and better than COD, not that it's going to be like COD.

Man, I miss Battlefield 2. I bought it years ago, when I had a laptop with Intel GMA 900 graphics (aka I couldn't run it) so I sat on it, and by the time I got this G50 in late 2008 it had all kinds of problems even installing in Vista. Then I finally got it working and reformatted a few weeks later. The 4-5 CD install process = I gave up.

If only I could somehow get a Steam copy either on sale for cheap or if I could magically convert my CD set into a digital copy. :(

On the one hand, they've already said it will NOT run on XP, so they can do away with the standard dx9 requirement of a 7900, and up it to something more recent, like 9800's min, gtx460 recommended? On the other hand they don't want to alienate people who didn't upgrade in the last year or so....

    Looking forward to the teaser

I don't really care too much about mod support. Mods are rarely as well designed as the original game.

Apparently you are forgetting the mods that have been made for the BF series in the past. The Forgotten Hope and Forgotten Hope 2 mods for BF1942 and BF2 (respectively) were essentially made as well as the games themselves, but added a LOT more material than the original games had included.

Yeah but mods are an ongoing process requiring may different updates over long periods of time to achieve the same quality as the original game. In the end, not many people the mods and there is a lack of good servers. I have experienced this in mods for BF2.

But whatever, that's besides the story here which is that BF3 has been announced!

    Personally...

Would be nice if they fixed BC2 first. Why would I want to buy BF3 if they proved to me they were incapable of fixing BC2 after an entire year?

And just like COD MW2 destroyed BC2, I have little doubt that COD will continue to demolish DICE shooters in sales. Not saying COD are better, but sales wise, they are absolutely annihilating DICE efforts.
    - MW2 sales made BC2 sales look puny. COD BLOPs furthered even more with even greater sales. I have no idea why DICE would even think for a ms they can set their sights on COD. Especially since complaints of BC2 still circulate every single day.

I've given up all hope with DICE, they just fail to me. MOH fail, BC2 still broken.

I'm hoping Tripwire Interactive will deliver with everything PC shooter fans love. MODS MODS MODS. 64 PLAYERS. And MODS MODS MODS. And 64 Players... And hopefully a working game. And PATCHES, UPDATES FREE for at least THREE YEARS AFTER PURCHASE.

Hmmm BC2 was fixed ever since i first installed it. :D

The only time it w as broken was when they tried to fix the melee.

I think a lot more people have no problems than people that has them.

MOH I wouldnt call a fail. I would call it a product that was launched too early. Hit detection was accurate and Graphics are fluid.

BC2 is playable despite its issues. If you can just pretend sometimes some jokers fill your gun with hollow shells or rubber bullets you'll be ok.

I think I will actually pre-order Battlefield 3. I rarely buy games full price any more, but this one I will definitely own day one.

BC2 has been fun, and I would definitely say it was worth the $44 I paid for it. I would rather have an excellent BF3 than an improved BFBC2 at this point because the issues aren't all that aggravating. After all, since hit detection failure happens to everyone, I assume that I have been spared some deaths by it as well.

I guess no one informed you of Project Reality and Forgotten Hope 2 mods for Battlefield 2 which provided the public with a much more superior game than the original. The developers of these mods have pushed the aged old BF2 engine to its limits and have kept the game alive for many.

Now the question is; do I pre-order Battlefield 3 in hopes that EA/DICE will reward me with something extra or do I wait it out and see if the game disappointments. Although I've owned every single Battlefield game, so I'm probably going to end up buying it at some point anyway.

Worth the $7, tyvm steam. I doubt BF3 will come with huge disappointments, after all this is now their only baby for the next 7 months. A couple minor bugs sure, but when every game is shipping with bugs...well...

I tried both in their hey days. Hardly anyone ever played FH2 and PR was just full of pretentious, smug, players who *GOD FORBID* you did any little thing that wasn't "realistic".

Not quite. Players that are on servers physically close to them have very low ping and have an advantage that way. In some ways I think low ping (< 80ms) and high ping (> 300ms) have an advantage. Even high pingers I have a hard time hitting.

I usually have high ping :D 200+ on US servers. And DICE has got to have the best design when dealing with PING. If this was like COD4 I would not even get to hit a single enemy with that kind of ping.

So when I played the BETA I was VERY surprised that I dont feel the effects of HIGH ping. SO buying DICE games is very good for me since they handle ping well

You're one of the lucky few then because even when I have a stationary enemy in my sights locked on their noggin I can empty my clip and even get the "X" hit indicator repeatedly and they walk away or turn around and shoot me with one shot from their handgun, I die, and they have like 70% health left. This isn't all the time, but quite frequently.

But back on topic. All I ask is that EA / DICE concentrate on the basics first. Get the game mechanics, netcode, and good map layouts, and the rest will just work.

Currently waiting for the news that our own "gamestop-like" store will start selling BF3 pre-orders :D

    I'll just have to deposit $10 :D

IF you read the blog DICE apologized by the fact that they didnt finish BF1943 and ONslaught mode on the PC. INstead they want to make sure the BF3 PC will be GREAT!

ALl I really want for BF3 is that my 6850 can handle it like it handles BC(Maybe lose some FPS) but still playable with Tesellation :D

So we will have to pay for DLC map packs? Hmm.. I was really hoping for free map downloads like in BC2.... unless I'm reading this wrong?

I'm trying to stay as optimistic with this as possible, but it's hard to have any faith in these big companies after the last few years. As big of a BF2 fan I am, I don't think I'll pre-order until 1) more info is released, and 2) results from Beta are out. Anyone who has taken any sort of marketing course can see right through everything they are doing right now which is making me a little uneasy about how to feel about BF3 right now. March can't come soon enough!

I don't think buying MOH: 2010 to get access to BF3 Beta was worth it. We'll see if pre-ordering BF3 will also give early access to the beta.

12 months after MoH's launch. But I guess that would be the release of it ( fall '11 ), so my guess is that the beta will be in july-august.

Intersting. I see that it will NOT be harder than Metro 2033 to run *phew*

    I see :
    - Tesselation ( not much, only in sand and rocks )
    - Parallax and Displacement mapping
    - Volumetric shadows and lightning

    I estimate :

    Minimum specs :

    Dual core 2.4GHz
    2GB RAM
    8800GT or ATi RHD 4830
    DX10 capable GPU
    Win 7 or Vista

    Recommended :
    Quad Core 2.0GHz
GTX 460 or ATi RHD 5770
    4GB RAM or more
    DX11 capable GPU
    WIN 7 64-bit

    Some more information:

New Battlefield 3 Details | TechspotLight

    • Prone will be on all 3 platforms, not just PC
    • Dolphin Driving/Dropshooting will not work.
    • Spotting (in its BC2 incarnation) will be making a return
    • While the PC version will have up to 64 player online matches, the number is limited to 24 on consoles
    • There will be a friendly fire option, turned off by default
    • Knives and dogtags will return
    • There will be no ziplines or grapple hooks
    • There will be bullet drop, but "Doesn’t work the same as BC2 though, it’s a much deeper system."
    • No tracer darts

Excellent, I'm most excited about the bullet drop system described as being "much deeper" than BC2 and the lack of tracer darts. Going back to the old spotting system doesn't hurt either.

Overall, I think all this new information directs towards a more PC central version of Battlefield versus the more consolized version PC gamers feared.

Good god, I hope they don't keep the aweful spotting system. Not only is it incredibly cheap (it is absurdly easy to get headshots simply based on the magical floating orange triangle, without ever seeing the enemy), but it doesn't spot what you want it to 75% of the time. Also, asking for a medic/ammo/repair is next to impossible. These NEED TO BE SEPARATE FUNCTIONS. The PC IS NOT a console, we have more than 6 separate buttons to do everything; I would at least like to have the bf2/2142 style selector ring that gives us some choice as to what we want to say.

Hopefully by much deeper bullet drop they mean that having a 4x scope attached to an assault rifle won't let you get away with zero drop at unlim distance.... hopefully it also means that the high ground will actually give a better tactical advantage, it really doesn't in bc2.

I like the spotting system in bc2, the magic floating triangle should be fixed if they fix bullet drop.

i never played any of the bf bc series, but bf2 and bf2142 were amazing, my favorite being bf2. though the titan games in bf2142 were awesome.

they better not let me down in the pc version.

Its interesting that everyone seems to forget about BF2142. I thought it was very fun, and the Titan mode was very unique and teamwork oriented. I can't count the number of times when I was in a squad where multiple people were using voice chat and coordinating attacks on silos and the consoles inside the titans. Battlefield 1942 also doesn't get mentioned around here; I don't know if it is because no one played it, or because it is just too old to get mentioned, but gameplaywise it is just as advanced as many games today.

I also hope they have conquest maps where one side starts off with on uncap and the other side controls the other bases, but has no uncaps. There were quite a few maps like this in the true BF games (like the smaller conquest maps in 2142 like camp gibralter), but BC2's conquest mode is all the same; just "head on" maps with 2 uncaps and neutral points in between, which I don't find as fun.

Doesn't matter so much, but it would've been nice to see the grappling hooks and zip lines make a return since they're emphasizing urban combat, at least according to Gamestop. I also hope spotting in its BC2 form doesn't mean the command wheel is out - I'd like to be able to ask for ammo/health without chasing people around half the time.

As for the engine, I hope they tone down the floating dust/snow and sun glare. That with excessive bloom (if I couldn't turn it off) would have made BC2 and MoH unplayable for me.

Floating maagical traingles arent that magical, current tech IRL can give you a digital hud in sunglasses, and laser tactical positioning with a weapon a camera and track your cam view at any point in time giving you human tracker, until they disapear behind a wall. But I do agree a well organized BFBC2 team and optimize the spotting function for dominance.

I look forward to this release like many of you. BC2 is still at the top of my list. One thing is bothering me...

I took a chance with MOH thinking "Hey, its DICE. BC2 is the best!" and pre-ordered MOH. Of course we all know how different the two are. I guess the point I'm trying to make is this, if they botch BF3 and I find I am stuck with pre-set spawn points, no in-game voice or any of the other major issues that I saw with MOH, I am done with them. As much as I love BC2, I'm a bit leary of pre-ordering. :(

At least I can try the beta and then make the call.

I agree. I can't believe now that I spent $60 on that stupid MoH game. I guess the fact that I get to play the BF3 beta sorta makes up for it though.

Well I'm not gonna preorder it until I seem some actual gameplay, so there is plenty of time to make up your mind!
